Description of Work: The Chimney Company and John Walsh rebuilt my chimney from the roofline up using all new bricks, new rolled lead flashing, and placed a new stainless steel chimney cap with lifelong guarantee on top. He also did a small repair to my cement basement stairs that were starting to crack by scraping off all the loose pieces, and replacing the top of the stairs with new cement slabs and pointed between each one. Chimney saver water repellant was applied to both projects three weeks after job completion.

Description of Work: John Walsh of The Chimney Company is a modern day "Old World Craftsman". He completed the restoration of two of my 1890 chimneys to perfection. As well as the demolition and removal of the tallest and most intricate of one of my three century old chimneys. Working in 90 to 100 degree temperatures, 30 and 40 feet off the ground with care and precision over the course of several weeks is a skill to be highly commended. Not a single brick or debris ever reach the ground in an uncontrolled manner nor outside of a trash receptacle. It took me interviewing 15 masons to find Mr. Walsh. ----- Those 14 others who did not get the project were for the most part either poor business persons. And/or too lazy or uninterested or lacked mindfulness to submit proposals. Too lazy to climb up on the roof to view the project. Or too un-impressive, un-knowledgable or too un-communicative to trust with the value and integrity of my century old structure. Mr. Walsh and his associates arrived every single day at the crack of dawn. Worked in a concise, conscience and orderly and steadfastly fashion. At the conclusion of each day's tasks Mr. Walsh and his team organized every bit of their equipment. Folded and neatly stored ladders and the like carefully and compactly in the smallest, most indiscreet area of my driveway. Scaffolding and staging were adequately secured and well marked with neon warnings to avoid the slightest possibility of collisions occurring by pass-by tenant parking. His price was fair, his communications EXCELLENT, his contract accurate, his work most favorable and to the highest standards of myself -- A very knowledgeable and EXTREMELY VIGILANT HOMEOWNER and CONTRACTOR of 30 years. Would I recommend him? YES - IN A HEART BEAT. -- I would endorse him with the HIGHEST OF PRAISE. I must include here that I have recommended JOHN WALSH to 3 different homeowner friends and clients and each and every one of them has come back to me with great appreciate and tremendous praise for Mr. Walsh's performance. One client even when so far as to send me a gift fruit basket as a token of his overwhelming gratitude for recommending Mr. Walsh. If you value your home, your property, your sanity and need a mason........ Mr. John Walsh of The Chimney Company is your man ! ! ! Rain or shine he kept me informed about his arrival times, schedules and activities. His diligent communications enabled me to keep my tenants informed about parking routines that were being interrupted and re-routed . He and his team covered sensitive areas of our landscaping and caused the absolute minimum damage to our property. We might have 2 crushed plantings after three weeks of heavy duty staging living amongst our garden. My wife's gratitude for his care to her plantings was of significant satisfaction to me personally. As they say: A happy wife is a happy life. In conclusion -- John is a GEM.

Description of Work: 120 year old chimney with no flu liner and lost of problems. Parged the basement portion of the chimney to stop flaking of brick. Replace clean out door in chimney. Repointed chimney. Fixed flu separator. Poured a cast in place liner so we can use the antique (original) coal burning fireplace in dinning room. Capped the chimney. Waterproofed exterior and replaced old flashing with new lead flashing. I can't say enough good things about this experience. John Walsh the owner was their through the entire job. He is an expert and demands that the work be meticulous. There was no damage to plants or to the house as a result of the work. He kept us informed of when he would arrive and what he was doing that day and what was left to do. John was very easy to work with and when we handed him our check list of remaining items to finish, he added more items to the list. It's very hard to find someone with the knowledge of chimney masonry as John. He was a pleasure to have as a contractor. I've recommended him to several neighbors and they have used his services and were equally impressed. Anyone can through bricks around. But, not everyone is an experienced mason who can work on your chimney and make sure it is safe.
