Description of Work: Bob and his crew just finished painting the exterior of my house. I am so pleased with the quality of the work! He also made sure all issues/items related to the exterior of the house--such as rotting window sills, badly peeling bulkhead, badly stained gutters, and the deck--are cleaned/fixed/painted. Because of the great workmanship, I have already contracted Bob to do the interior painting of my house during the upcoming winter. (Bob offers a discount for off-season jobs.)

Description of Work: I paid for 2 painters for 8 hrs. Once they arrived I explained that I needed 2 rooms and the hallway. I was disappointed that the hallway took 4 hrs with 2 guys all one color including borders. They ran out of time and they were not able to finish the final room. Overall they did a great job, the clean up was the best I've seen. I was satisfied when I received a call from Bob apologizing for the situation. All in all I would hired his company again. He is very professional and so are his painters.

Response from Bob Peters Painting
I was told by my Angie's List Account Management Representative not to respond to this negative review, because when I called [Member name removed] to try and understand why my grades were so bad and not consistent with the written review, she explained that the grades I received were not the ones that she remembered submitting when she wrote the review. She said that she was quite satisfied with my painting company and the work that we did. She had no idea why the grades that I received on her review were incorrect and not the ones that she had actually submitted. In my opinion it is another mistake caused by the computerized system that Angie's List uses in this process of connecting customers with businesses. I have experienced multiple communication glitches with my customers and some have shared with me that they have experienced problems on their end as well. We are all working with the system to do the best we can. During my phone conversation with [Member name removed], I asked her if she could correct the mistake and she said that she would try, but didn't really know how to do it. I told her try and fix it on her end and that I would contact my Account Management Representative and find out the process for correcting grades for a review. When I called my Account Management Representative, I was told that the [Member name removed] would have to contact someone from Angie's List to guide them through the process. I have been extremely busy this summer and finally last week when I looked for [Member name removed] telephone number to explain the process she would have to go through to change my grades on her review, I could not find her number. Because this job was from one of my promotions from the Big Deal here on Angie's List, I had no business contract to refer to, in order to find her telephone number and she did not originally list her number on the Angie's List Business Center when she purchased my promotion of "Rent Two Painters For a Day". In the meantime, while I try to locate her number, I felt compelled to respond to this review, seeing as this review is the only negative review that I have on Angie's List of customers that I actually did work for.

I paid by credit card for the painting of a single room. We arranged a date and time. Even Knowing that I worked the prior night Bob Peters Painting did not show up at the agreed upon time in the AM. I was not able to contact him and he did not bother to contact me. I am checking my VISA card to make sure that he did not charge me. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

Well, another negative review from someone that I never did any actual painting for. Again, I am astonished at how easy it is to get a negative review from someone that I never did any work for. I am seriously debating whether I should continue to do any work for people on Angie's list, because of the negative reviews that I have received without even doing any work. I had arranged a date and time with the person writing this review, to do the painting of the room in his house. Unfortunately I came down with the flu a couple of days before the arranged day to do the job. I sent him a message via the Angie's List message center the evening before the day of the job and I quote from the message center: "Bob Peters Painting 12/10/2014 Hi [member name removed], I just wanted to let you know that I will not be able to come out to your house tomorrow, as we had scheduled, because I am at home in bed with the flu. I have been running a temperature between 101 and 102.5 for the last 48 hours. I will send you an email when I am feeling better and we can decide on another day for me to come out and do your interior painting job. Thanks. Bob Peters" End of quote. Evidently this person never received my message or never bothered to look and see if I had left a message on the Angie's List message center. In hind sight I wish that I had sent this person my message via his email, but I was extremely sick with the flu at that time and didn't think that they would never get my message via Angie's List message center. I take responsibility for not getting back to them via their personal email, when I was feeling better. I also know for a fact that they never tried to get back to me via email, the Angie's List message center, or by phone. I prefer to communicate with my customers by phone because it is so much easier for me to do, because I am a terrible typist on keyboards, but I never received a phone # for this person. In my opinion there is an inherent flaw with the system that Angie's List uses for communication between the customer and the contractor via the message center! Also I am astounded by how easy it is to get a negative review and by how angry/upset people are concerning the logistics of trying to arrange the work through the "Big Deal" promotion. I will never do a "Big Deal" promotion for "painting a room for $99.00, ever again!! I just completed painting my 4th room and have 4 left to do. Two have decided not to do the promotion and subsequently have written negative reviews of my painting company. I am finding that it is incredibly difficult to find a time to do the painting of a room, considering my regular painting schedule which had been planned since the Fall and finding a time that is favorable with the customers. It also has been a nightmare to communicate with the people through the Angie's List website message center. I sent out a message to each customer with 2 days and asked that they call me back to try and schedule a time to do the work. Some of the people were very prompt in calling me back and others were not. Off the ones that I did not here back from in 4 or 5 days, if they left a phone # I would call them. If they did not leave a phone #, I just waited for them to call me and if they didn't, I would send them another message through the Angie"s List website message center. Out of the 10 responses that I received for the "Big Deal), 2 still have not called me yet. The reason I decided to do a "Big Deal" promotion for painting a room for $99.00, in order to get more reviews for my painting company here on Angie's List. My goal was to strengthen the presence of my business on Angie's List. I knew that I would be lucky to break even because Angie"s List received 40% of of every $99.00 for painting a room. If I had know how difficult it would be to communicate with the people who purchased the "painting of a room" and how complicated it would be to arrange a day to do the work, I would never have decided to do a "Big Deal" promotion. Thank goodness that all of the work I have actually done and completed, has gotten positive reviews, with the exception of one customer. And the situation with that customer will be completely rectified in the upcoming Spring and they will delete their negative review and replace it with a positive one!

Description of Work: Bob responded to my original order the next day and made appt. for himself to come over and check out the room I wanted painted. He came at the arranged time(a few minutes early!) and we went over what needed to be painted. He said he would call in a week to set up exact time and date when he could do the work, which he did and then came today (the apppointed time) and professionally began and completed the painting to my satisfaction.

After I purchased the promotional special on Angie's List, Bob called to schedule an appointment to assess the job within 3 days. He provided a more than reasonable price and was able to schedule the work to be done the following week. He arrived when he indicated and completed the job in two days in a very professional manner. The bedroom looks great and I would use and recommend him again.

Response from Bob Peters Painting
As an honest, responsible and professional painting contractor trying build a positive reputation on Angie's List, I am very frustrated by how easy it is to get a negative review on this website, without even doing any work for the reviewer. I have already gotten two negative reviews from people I had never even heard of their name, before reading their negative review about my painting company here on Angie's List. One of them was from Worcester, MA, which is a place that I would never attempt to do any work in because of how far away from my working area of western mass. This reviewer is not being truthful about what really happened and in my opinion is going out of his way to tarnish my reputation by stating facts, which are not valid or truthful. First of all the reviewer included carpentry and exterior painting categories when this "Big Deal" promotion" was about interior painting only. Second, the reviewer states that "services" were performed, when nothing like that ever occurred. But, of great importance, the reviewer states facts in his review which are eons away from the truth!! Here is what really happened: This person wanted their work job done as soon as possible (ASAP), one suggested date was (11/7) one day after purchasing the "Big Deal", one was (11/11) and the third was (11/13). I sent my first email back to this person on (11/6) the day they purchased their "Big Deal", which was the same email that I sent all 10 on the day they purchased their "Big Deal" which read: " I received your message and would like to talk over the phone. You can call me at 413-687-4776 at your convenience. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day! Bob Peters ". After not hearing back for 3 days I sent this person another email on Angie's List the morning of (11/9) which read: " I would appreciate it if you could give a call so we can discuss the logistics of your painting job. I look forward to meeting you and hope you have a nice day!" That day I still did not receive a phone call, so that evening I sent another email which read: " I am still trying to make a connection, so we can do your paint job. You did not leave a phone #, feel free to give me a call at 413-687-4776. Have a great evening! " Finally the next day this person left a message on my answering machine saying that the best time to get a hold of them would be during the day and up till 8:00 in the evening. The message did not say" NOT" to call after 8:00. I called the following day and had to leave a message, so I tried to call again that night after I got home from work. I called around 8:15 and had to leave another message. The next day this person left me another message saying that they requested a refund of their money concerning the "Big Deal" and that they were no longer interested in my services. That was on November 12th and I heard nothing from this person until being notified by Angie's List that someone had written another review of my painting company. This person was one of 5 responses I received in the first two days of the “Big Deal” promotion. Out of these 5 responses, I have already done one job, have another two scheduled, one next week and the other after Thanksgiving, one person called me and asked if I could wait till after the holidays and I responded back that this would be fine. I have been going out of my way to schedule and do the work as expeditiously as possible to those people who want their work scheduled as soon as possible.

I originally contacted Mr. Peters about providing an estimate on the job in early August. By the end of the month we had agreed on the parameters and cost of the job. He was very professional in the course of this process, and agreed to start the work in mid-September. Unfortunately, weather and his prior commitments conspired to delay the start of the job almost 6 weeks. However, despite the worsening weather, his people, once the job was underway, did excellent work. We had delayed painting the house for several years longer than we should have, and it was starting to look very bad, but now that it's done the house looks great, and we're very happy. It wasn't cheap - following lead paint protocols for an entire house wouldn't be - but it was worth it. Mr. Peters does good work, and I'll be glad to hire him again the next time we need painting done.
Description of Work: Bob Peters repainted the entire exterior of our house, including trim work to match existing fiberglass shutters. As an old home (built 1860), he was required to follow lead paint protocols.

It went perfectly. Bob Peters and his crew consistently impress us with the dedication, care and professionalism that they bring to every project they have done for us. Bob Peters solves every painting and staining problem that he is dealt and always takes the time to talk with us the homeowner to garner our input on the project. He and his crew are careful with our home area and show respect when working in and about it. We have associated with Bob and his company since 2007 and he has worked both interior and exterior jobs to our great satisfaction. He takes the time to listen to our requests and formulates a plan which he finalizes with us, communicates his plan and implements it with his skilled employees. Bob Peters Painting company takes the stress out of having a crew work around your home and he and his team are friendly, fair in price and clean up your home respectfully. We intend to have them in for future projects.
Description of Work: The Bob Peters Painting Company, power washed, scraped and sanded our three story weathered wooden barn and cupola prior to applying new stain. The crew also repaired any rotted window sills or wooden areas that needed repair and then stained them. They used a lift to reach very high areas on the sides and around the large cupola. They painted/stained window mullions and cleaned windows and replaced the screens in the Fall with storm windows. This was a big project and they kept at it in continuous stages so that we always felt like the job was moving forward, and we were very plese

Response from Bob Peters Painting
I am beginning to wonder about some of the negative reviews that appear on Angie's List after just responding to one about my company where I had never seen or heard the name of the customer who was writing the negative review. This one is even more unbelievable than the last one because I would never ever go to Bridgewater for work, it is way too far away for me to ever consider doing any work there. Also, as I said in my last response to a negative review, I would never not call or email a potential customer for possible work. Responding to an email inquiring about my services is automatic for me to do. I respond immediately after reading any email that pertains to potential painting work, even if it is to say that I have no more room in my schedule to take on any additional work. I know many painters who will blow people off without contacting them if they are too busy to do the work. Customer service and relations are one of the tenants of my business philosophy.

I don't do very many estimates in Belchertown and would remember or recognize this particular name. I have never heard this name before and would never not show up for a bid without calling. Calling or getting to back to people via email when they are inquiring about having me come out to do an estimate is a part of my business that I take extremely seriously. Having good customer service relations is one of the most important aspects of my "philosophy" of doing business.

Description of Work: Painted all entire interior walls, trim, closets, and one small room's ceiling; did some minor carpentry plus removal and reconstruction of a large built-in bookcase. Bob Peters demands perfection in his work and obtained it; we were entirely pleased with the result. Only problem was a personnel issue with Bob Peters's assistant that caused the job to drag out many weeks longer than expected. Only reason we wouldn't use his services again is that we moved out of the area. Final cost was exactly as expected: estimate plus our add-ons and changes at time & materials.

We had used Bob Peters for exterior painting the previous fall and were sufficiently happy with his work that we contracted again with him for our interior painting. Due to the many years since our last interior painting, there was a lot of wall and trim preparation involved. In my experience, such careful prep is what sets a real professional apart from less experienced painters. For the half-bath, Bob helped us considerable to pick precisely the right color for a "difficult" harmonizing match to tile. The cost for the "basic" prep and painting was exactly what his proposal specified. As we had agreed, he did various add-ons on a time-and-materials basis (e.g., painting all closet ceilings; carpentry to remove, cut down to a smaller size, and paint a built-in bookcase; and polyurethaning kitchen cabinets). The add-on work was fairly priced. All the work was done while we were living in the house, so of course there was the inconvenience of our having to retreat from this or that room while work was done there. But Bob and crew carefully moved furniture out of the way and made the process as painless as it could be under such circumstances. The job overall did take a bit longer than we had expected, in part because of the add-ons but also because winter "flu" knocked out Bob and his crew for several days. We are delighted with the top-notch end result.
Description of Work: Bob and his crew painted our halls, living room, dining room, kitchen, a half-bath, and 4 bedrooms -- walls and all trim except for window sashes (which were new, pre-painted drop-in replacements). There was also some "add-on" work we chose to do (see below).

Work began within the general time frame we established, and I received ample advance notice of its actual start. Bob Peters and his crew arrived promptly when promised. The work extended over three weeks, with several days' down time due to rain. Surface preparation -- scraping & sanding -- was extensive and thorough. Painting was done carefully and clean-up reasonably thorough. I was kept informed throughout of progress made and what had yet to be done. Bob made sure everything was done to my satisfaction, e.g., retouching some door areas where paint had stuck. As promised in the work proposal, when the total hours used ended up being less than estimated, I received a rebate ($450) from the agreed-to price. I'm delighted with the results. Other workmen have commented upon what a nice job it was. I was pleased enough with the work that I expect to use Bob Peters soon to paint nearly the entire interior, too.
Description of Work: Bob Peters and his crew prepared surfaces and then primed and finish-painted house trim, doors, and window casings (but not including window sashes), entire front and enclosed back porches, along with garage siding, doors, and windows (including sashes). Except in one small area, no color change was involved.
