When I brought the computer in, on a Thursday, they explained that they were very busy with lots of Windows 7 updates and that they would not be able get my computer fixed for at least 3 or 4 days. They seemed uncertain as to whether they would be able to fix my system. I should have taken that uncertainty as an indicator that they were unqualified to de-bug or remove the virus and save my files/documents. The technician almost immediately recommended a system restore without explaining how much or what data might be lost by that process. By Sunday afternoon they had not called or contacted me. On Monday I called to find out what the status was. They had not yet started it. On Tuesday, 5 days later, I called them again and they said that they tried to reach me, but could not because they had an old phone number. Why would they have used an old number when the invoice which they printed out on Thursday had my current phone number on it and in their system? Finally on Tuesday they said that they wanted to try and back up data prior to doing a system restore since they had noticed my Quickbooks software in the disk drive. I told them that I had that info on a memory stick and did not need that. By this time, going into day six, I needed my computer back. They seemed to be bumbling along without really knowing how to save the data and remove the virus. Due to my frustration with getting several technicians and having them not really know what was going on, I told them to just stop trying to recover or back up data, do the "re-store" and get it back to me. They did that, and unfortunately all my resumes, cover letters, pictures, and addresses in Outlook were lost. I am starting over again mostly due to their inability to recover data & get rid of what most likely was a virus....although no one ever confirmed that.
Description of Work: Computer would not boot up. Most likely had some sort of virus preventing it from properly starting up. Staples computer technician almost immediately recommended a "system restore" without bothering to diagnose, or recommending alternative method of getting system back up and running. Unfortunately, he did not explain the options, nor make it known that they could save data, files and remove the virus. (If that in fact was the issue)
