sent doug a link to my flickr.com account so he could take a look at the pictures of my items. He emailed ne back, then we had a phone coversation.

Following the recent deaths of our parents, my husband, sister and I were charged with sorting through assets, physical and financial. Before we decided what we were keeping, what we could sell and what was junk, we needed an appraisal. We browsed Angie's List for a few names. Carl Stinson showed up on the "A" list, so we called that company first. The challenge was the Stinson's business is nowhere near where we are currently (temporarily) living in New Jersey. Following my first conversation ? there have been a number, all helpful ? with Doug Stinson (who could not have been more accommodating), we decided to take photos and send him a memory stick. He agreed he would review the images and give us a sense of what we have. Naturally I asked "How much?" Surprisingly he said "Nothing. I just love looking at the sorts of items you are describing, so I will help you out of interest." If it turned out any of our antiques had real value, his brother does own a warehouse in Delaware and he (or the brother ) would take a short detour to New Jersey on a planned trip to New York to drop off or pick something up. Once the necessary images were shot, there was a total of 400 frames. Doug spent close to 2 hours with us reviewing almost every jpg, very few of which turned out to be appropriate to his business. And he plans to do more investigating for us for nothing. No material gain on his part. If you believe as we do in karma, Doug Stinson has a world of good heading his way. He is very honest and has a lot of compassion for what for what does. He is also very courteous.

I contacted Doug via e-mail because of his great recommendations on Angie's List. He asked me to submit photos of some things I had inherited via e-mail which I did. He gave me the complete background of the item's features. He knows his stuff!

I contacted Carl Stinson Inc. by email to see if he provided insurance appraisals of antiques, which is what I was looking for. He had very good reviews on Angie's List, which is why I contacted him. I did not indicate that I got his name through Angie's List. He did not return my email.

I called Douglas Stinson and he suggested that I email photos to him, which I did. He then called me back and appraised each item after he gave a description of the item in technical terms.

I really appreciate his quick opinion as it saved me both time and money I would have spent on an unnecessary in-person appraisal.

He was very knowledgeable, very straightforward, and gave lots of helpful examples. I thought his judgement is very good and no real pressure, he just lead out things as they were.

Douglas Stinson was the most responsive professional I have had the pleasure of working with. He called me immediately after receiving the photos of some of my furniture. He spoke with knowledge about the pieces and was extremely gracious and incredibly patient as we talked. I learned a great deal from him in that 10 minute conversation. While this time I did not have pieces that held any particular value, I will seek to both refer and work with Douglas again.

The information Doug gave us was thorough and knowledgeable, as he took the time to give us the full back story of the piece and its estimated value at auction (not nearly as high as we?d hoped). All I needed was estimates of a variety of antiques. He provided these data plus the back story on most of the pieces. Very easy and fast process.

I had antique furniture pieces that I wanted appraised. I had no idea what the value might be; so, I requested guidance and an estimate of the cost of an appraisal via email. Within 1 day of my inquiry I received a phone call from Doug Stinson. He recommended I send pictures of the pieces for an initial assessment. Within a few hours of receiving the photos, Doug called me and talked through each piece (fair value with rationale/background for each piece). For some of the pieces, he provided referrals for local antiques dealers. We spoke for almost 30 minutes. Doug was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. This cost me nothing. I was very pleased with the information and help I received.

Carl was one of the most knowledgeable people I have spoken to about my furniture. He called immediately and was over to see it that next day. He knew about other things I had and ended purchasing 2 lamps and a curio cabinet. Not only was he professional but he was a very nice man who spent time with us. I definitely recommend him especially for his honesty.

I emailed photos and some general info on a painting my husband inherited from his grandmother. I received an incredibly speedy and helpful reply from Doug with more information on the painter as well as a general idea of what the piece was worth. He was professional, knowledgeable, and gave me additional information and advice. I'd definitely use them again.

Douglas Stinson managed the sale of our antiques. He did a lot of research and was very knowledgeable regarding the antiques. He responded to all our phone calls and made the sale very convenient for us. He is prompt and professional.

Some months after I had used Carl W. Stinson Inc. for a major endeavour in which their services were invaluable [the endeavour was the sorting, selling and/or storing the contents of a relative's home as they downsized] I faced an unexpected obstacle - a new insurance company would not insure without an up-to-date appraisal and until it did, there were huge monthly payments for interim coverage. I got back in touch with Douglas Stinson who was able to provide a detailed appraisal of items and current value, thus quickly resolving the situation to everybody's satisfaction.

I had taken some detailed pictures of my mother's furniture, as my siblings were convinced they were valuable antiques. I wasn't so sure. I looked on Angie's List and noticed that Carl W. Stinson offers free estimates through email. I sent him the pictures and even said that he didn't have to respond if he wasn't interested, but, on the contrary, Carl Stinson himself responded to my message the next day. Although the items were not highly valuable and not something he would be interested in seeing himself, he gave me some information about them and also sent me a referral to a person who might be interested in pursuing purchase, all without charge. I was very impressed with his professionalism, as I have dealt with dealers before and they are not all as nice as Mr. Stinson. I now know approximately what Mom's furniture is worth, and how to continue when I do sell them.

It went very well. We were able to agree on items that he could buy outright or sell for me and what I received paid the costs to fix up the house for rental. He was very helpful and good company throughout the whole process and is someone I will keep in touch with in future.
