Description of Work: Douglas Stinson helped me identity and and determine the value of many pieces of antique furniture and art glass. I was impressed with his extensive knowledge. He was very responsive and spent a lot of time explaining the current market conditions. I decided not to go forward with auctioning these items at this time, however when I do proceed it will be with Stinson.

Description of Work: After exchanging phone calls, and e-mails, Doug was able to provide me with an accurate value of an antique family clock, therefore, ending a family estate dispute over the actual value! He also went out of his way to send along a couple of related links, to "back up" his "unseen" appraisal! Many thanks for his time...and expertise!

Description of Work: I called Doug Stinson with respect to an appraisal for some oriental rugs i purchased in turkey. Doug did not know me and yet helped me tremendously. He got on the phone with me, asked me to send him pictures of the rugs (he advised me to put a quarter on the back of the rug from which he could estimate the knots per inch) and advised me that day, WITHOUT COST, as to his thoughts on the provenance and value of the rugs. Doug consulted with a colleague of his, who is a specialist in Oriental Rugs and suggested I might want to consult directly with the colleague (by bringing the rugs to him). Previously i was quoted $500 to appraise these two rugs by another dealer. Doug is an upstanding, intelligent, honest man. He was extremely knowledgeable and got me to the right place for even more scrutiny of the rugs by someone who deals in them more. And he did not charge me a DIME. Great !!!

Description of Work: Doug was extremely responsive and helpful in estimating what replacement value we should insure our antiques being shipped across the country. After emailing him photos of the pieces, he phoned the next day with a thorough, thoughtful assessment of each piece. He offered to write it up, but our shipper indicated that an oral valuation would be enough. Doug did all of this for no charge. We would certainly go to him in future for our appraisal or auction needs. He is clearly knowledgable and straight-talking. Highly recommend him!

Description of Work: Doug was wonderful. I had no idea where to start with my furniture and silver pieces. Not only did he call me right away, he gave me a referral for a furniture dealer. Doug was extremely kind and very informative. He shared his extensive knowledge without ever asking for payment. Even after our phone discussion, Doug still followed up with more emails and even more vauable information. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs to sell some furniture.

Description of Work: When my partner passed away I needed an appraisel of the household items to settle the estate. Doug Stinson returned my call and suggested that I email him pictures. Once Doug received the pictures, he called me with a lot of information about the items. Doug said that formal furniture from the 40's-50's was not selling but gave me a lot of information about each item. I ask if he would put the information in writing for a fee so I would have something to submit to the estate lawyer. For a reasonable price, he emailed a spreadsheet with detail information on the items and the appraised value. He could not have been any more helpful and accommodating. It is not often one finds someone willing to share their expertise.

Doug was professional and gave me suggestions where I could sell the china pieces and how much to ask. From my photos he was able to provide a very informative summary of the period, likely materials, and approximate resale value. He was delightfully honest about the furniture and also gave an assessment of the market right now. He offered to follow up on them with a colleague who might be interested in buying them. Overall he was very informative and helpful in getting a realistic perspective. I would highly recommend him.
