This is a father/son business and for the record, we had no problem with the father (Steve is the father, his son is Derek). Derek is a different matter. We contracted this company to remove the yellowed oil based finish, which means they had to buff down the hardwood floors to bare wood. As you can see by the picture, they did not get all of the old oil based finish. We had a few problems: After the job was done (and we were able to walk into our kitchen again) we saw the spots that were in the picture which appear to be the oil-base that is still there. Derek & his apprentice came back to the house and proceeded to tell us that it was the grain of the wood (to which we pointed out, if it was the grain of the wood, then it wouldn't be in a perfect horizontal line going across multiple planks of wood, but it would be in the grain of the wood itself). He then proceeded to tell us that was its hard to get in that area with the buffer (which makes me think he does not have the skill with the buffer and just did a poor job). Derek was very much on the defensive and auguring with us and giving excuses on all the issues we have. Also when we were able to walk on the floor, we notice there was tons of fibers stuck underneath the top coat (which supposedly is from their buffer). Derek & apprentice came back and had to remove that coat and re-apply it. After they re-applied the final coat to correct the fiber problems, there is now swirl patterns in our floor and spots of bare wood. Because the kitchen floor buds against pre-finished hardwood floors they (Derek & apprentice) had to chisel the oil-base finish off near the threshold; which produced an uneven finish that was very apparent. They also nicked our pre-finished floor (which is why they had to use the chisel in the first place.. as to not damage the pre-finished floors). These issues coupled with the lack of professionalism of the son is why I'm giving the rating that I am.
Description of Work: Contracted their company to remove the oil-based finish on the kitchen hardwood floors (which had yellowed with age) and replace finish with water-based finish.
