It went great!! Let me start off by saying this review is well overdue, my apologies! Richard got back to me the same week I inquired about services and was able to provide me with a fair and reasonable quote. I am beyond pleased with the work that Paul and Arthur did, "I Absolutely Love My Front Door!!!" These gentleman were professional, punctual, polite and worked very hard to get me exactly what I wanted. They came prepared with masks on and took social distancing during this pandemic very serious which I appreciated and was pleased to see. They installed the door on my Birthday which made it extra special for me; not to mention, I had a broken stairway spoke and they replaced it free of charge! I also ordered a door knocker and they came back after I painted my front door and installed it for me with no problem!! These guys are the real deal! I will definitely be calling them back for future jobs. Thanks again guys, you Rock!!

1st Choice has been my go-to contractor for years. They built a sunroom, two decks, and installed siding on most of my house. Every job has been superb! This latest project was a kitchen redo. From the start, we discovered that the walls were not insulated, and the electricity and plumbing needed serious help. These are detail professionals, and details make champions. And, special kudos go out to Paul Nee as he was the point person for this project. He communicates daily, listens to concerns/wishes, and does so with a smile on his face. Also, Art (his assistant), Greg (electrician), and Angel (plumber) were all terrific! My finished kitchen is better than I ever imagined it would be. 1st Choice has my absolute highest recommendation!

This was an extremely difficult space for a bathroom. Very narrow and long and had not been updated in several decades. We now have a bathroom that feels like it belings in a high end hotel. Cannot believe it is the same footprint

The employees are very professional and answered any questions I had. The work was done in a relatively short period of time & I am very satisfied with the results. I will be hiring them to replace my front doors & my slider.

Rich and Paul did a great job with our bathroom remodel. We are very pleased! Getting on their schedule took longer than expected, but once the project started they were very responsive and helpful, providing excellent suggestions that made our remodel look better than anticipated. They were very professional throughout the process. Work was done when they said and they were accommodating to our schedules. Price was reasonable. Nice guys too! We will be using them again for more projects in the future.

Paul, Rich and team were the most professional, friendly and accommodating bunch of contractors. Their attention to detail is impeccable, even when we found things that needed to be re-done or fixed, they got right to it. We had quite a few cabinet issues where they came in damaged and had to be re-ordered from the cabinet manufacturer several times. No fault of 1st Choice, as they patiently worked around the re-delivery timeframes and as soon as the replacements came in, they were back on the job lickety split. Very easy company to work with and we are overall very happy with their work. We will definitely use them again and highly recommend these folks.

Paul and Rich were absolutely wonderful to work with. Everyone that worked on the project was on time, professional and tidied up at the end of every work day. We did a total remodel of our kitchen and pantry and the process was as smooth as it could be. Paul or Rich stopped by every day to check in with the staff and had excellent communication with us regarding the status of the project. We felt that everyone was trustworthy and will definitely work with them in the future!

I've asked 1st Choice to do three large remodeling jobs. First adding a bedroom, bath and closet in existing space on the 2nd floor, which included installing 2 skylights. Second, a complete kitchen remodel (see picture) as well as renovating two bathrooms on first floor. Third, just finished recently, painting living room, guest room, dining room on first floor and loft office. This last included replacing all woodwork on first floor and building an under-stair treatment. Rich and Paul are a delight to work with. They use competent third-party vendors, i.e. plumbers, electricians, the kitchen designer, the granite people. They and their crews are professional, helpful, and best of all, clean up everything as they go. They are good so they're in demand - so plan your timing. But it is definitely worth the wait. Prices are competitive, and any problems (not many for sure!) have been dealt with promptly. Jobs were all completed on time and within the budget we set. I was extremely pleased with the work - which is why I've asked them back twice!

We had two projects- 1) complete remodel of main bath and 2) some partial remodel work for master bath (ceiling), hallway (replace 4 doors), kitchen trim painting. Rich and Paul responded promptly with a reasonably detailed estimate. We negotiated a little because their estimate on the second project was significantly higher than two other quotes I'd received from similar size companies. The work was done on time, despite winter weather, and their sub-contractors were very good, professional and clean (!!). Paul did most of the oversight and his attention to detail, particularly for the main bath remodel, was great and much appreciated Like the other reviews, we also had some communication challenges, but found that text messaging with Paul works best. This is our third experience with remodeling and I think this is common to many contractors. Be sure to include a payment plan in your contract and consider details you might not anticipate would need explanation. We had 4 hall doors replaced (excellent job) but the trim painting was done only on the hallway side. Never occurred to me to specify *both sides* of the door trim for painting. Overall, a very good experience and highly recommend them for remodeling jobs.

Finally I contacted several contractors to see if they could diagnose the problem and fix it. One called me back and declined the job immediately. The only one who called me back promptly was Rich from 1st Choice Home Improvement. Rich came down and immediately saw what the problem was. We hired him on the spot after seeing the ratings and comments he received on Angie’s List. I applaud Rich for his quick replies to emails and phone calls and his communication throughout the job was excellent. Here is part of a note my husband wrote to Rich: “Many thanks to you, Paul, and your crew for a wonderful job installing the new doors and windows. They work great and with all the wind and rain we have had for the past few days there are no leaks. This is a first class job done by true professionals and the workmanship shows.” Our work team was lead by Paul. He knew what he was doing and didn’t waste any time getting to work and completing the job along with the other members of his capable crew. First choice was exceptional. The job was done exactly as requested and was finished in a very reasonable period of time. All their contractors were also wonderful. They were friendly, did a great job, and cleaned up after themselves. I would use them again and would recommend them highly.

From beginning to end my projects couldn't have gone any smoother. I priced these projects out with 5 other competitors and by far Rich Russell and Paul Nee, owners of 1st choice home improvement beat them significantly in price, response, and starting my projects. They ALWAYS gave me choices that would save me money and still give me the exact look I wanted for bathroom and sunroom. They are FABULOUS and would recommend them to anyone. I was impressed that I received a call the first day that I requested services. The company made accommodations to meet on day that worked for me. They arrived to the house on time and waited patiently while I put the dogs in a safe location. Paul and Rick make a great team together, balancing each other's weak points. They are very thorough with their work; however, faltered in their communication following the assessment process. I waited a week and did not hear back from them so I looked into and scheduled appointments with other construction companies. Another week went by and we still did not hear back from them so we decided to proceed with another construction company. After reading several reviews, I noted that this is a frequent problem with the company. The only suggestion I can make to first choice home improvements is to maintain communication on a minimum of a weekly basis with all potential customers. I would hire them again if they improved in this aspect.

This is the second time we hired 1st Choice Home improvement. Our 40 year old kitchen had a damaged kitchen floor and sagging cabinets. After much discussion we decided to call Rich Russell and Paul Nee, contractors, who had been so fantastic to work with when we had our sunroom leak repaired and windows and doors replaced. We wouldn't even call other contractors to compare prices. Rich and Paul may cost a little more but their quality, communication and workmanship is worth every penny! Again, Paul and Rich came down and offered good ideas and suggested we contact a designer they had worked with to assist in our plans. Rich and Paul have a trusted work crew with a gifted craftsman, Milan, who undertook most of the work. We had our old formica sagging cabinets replaced with white wooden cabinets, new blue pearl granite countertops and sink installed, recessed lighting replaced an old tiffany light fixture, the walls and ceiling were painted and an oak hardwood floor was installed to replace old worn out vinyl. The floor installers wove the wood into the hallway so it blends in perfectly. We had our sink moved to the corner so we would have more counter space. Paul and Rich always used quality materials and finished the kitchen with beautiful crown molding and baseboards. They use top notch sub contractors for the electrical, plumbing and floor work. Paul and Rich treated our home as if it were their own. They checked the work and advocated for us, if necessary, every step of the way. Their communication was superb. We could call or email anytime and they answered quickly. Recently we had a family party and received compliments throughout the day. Even the home inspectors who came to evaluate the work for the town admire the kitchen.We wouldn’t hesitate to call 1st Choice Home Improvement for our next home project.

I liked the company a lot. They were very professional. They did a great job. I was very pleased with them. I would say don't hesitate to hire them.

We hired 1st Choice last winter and have nothing but amazing things to say about them and the work they did for us. We had some water damage that resulted from the giant winter storm, and decided to make some big renovations to our house at the same time. We ended up: Adding a half bathroom, removing a wall between our kitchen and dining room, replacing our kitchen counter top and sink, re-shingling half of our roof, dry walling all of the walls that had been removed due to water damage, removing the popcorn ceiling from several rooms and re-configuring the ceiling lighting, stripping the tile from our bathroom and replacing it with drywall and replacing the floor and toilet. Since we knew it was going to be a pretty big job, we interviewed four different contractors, and Rich came in with the most reasonable estimate. Beyond that, Rich emulated trustworthiness during our initial conversation and suggested some approaches that we hadn't heard from anybody else, so we entered the job with 100% confidence that we'd made the right choice. Throughout the course of our renovation, Rich, Paul, Milan and the rest of the crew continued to go above and beyond, cementing them as THE crew that we'll turn to for all future work to our house. There were some specific things that we observed throughout the job that we thought were especially noteworthy: -There was a clear pride in craftsmanship… they spent the extra time to make sure that all of the finishing work was done in a way that integrated seamlessly with our 100-year-old original work -We have two young kids, and the entire crew seemed delighted to run into them every morning -We have a somewhat loud and energetic dog, and the guys weren't phased by her at all (even offering to let her in and out of the house) -Despite the fact that we were removing walls and replacing plumbing/electrical work, they always left the house entirely live-able… cleaning up messes and covering in-progress jobs to the extent that we were always comfortable having our toddler roam around the house -All of the sub-contractors that we interacted with (plumbing, electrical, drywall, roofing) were equally friendly and professional -Communication was prompt and convenient… email and text messages were answered within the hour. -Rich always had a suggestion for how we should proceed, but never balked at questions that we had or things that we wanted to do that were contrary to his initial advice. And far more often than not, after exploring our own ideas, we ended up back where Rich had started us out. I'm embarrassed that it's taken so long to get this review written. In fact, the only thing that reminded me of it was the fact that we called 1st Choice again for another set of jobs, which they finished with the same timeliness, trustworthiness, and excellence as the initial job for which we'd hired them.

Exceptional! This was a substantial project, involving the creation of a new sunroom - it is beautiful - and 2 composite decks. Rich and Paul, point persons for 1st Choice, are just great. They listen to what you have in mind, make suggestions, clarify, and pin it down. Mylan (the main carpenter) was unbelievable. He and his son, Kyle, did most of the work. Not only are they good at what they do but they are very nice and respectful. All other workers (floor installer, plasterer, painter, electrician) were outstanding. These folks know what they are doing and take great pride in their work. They communicate well and are attentive to detail. In fact, they noticed that a section of my living room was not supported and, in turn, was bending down. This caused problems opening a slider to a deck. Thankfully, they were able to provide supports and remedy the issue. They are not the cheapest contractors but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I highly recommend 1st Choice. You can't go wrong with these gentlemen!

If you are looking for an honest, reliable contractor who does quality work, then 1st Choice Home improvement is a contractor worth contacting. Until working with Paul I had not had very positive experiences with contractors. They would be okay in one area but fall extremely short in others. With 1st Home Improvement, I can honestly say they came through in all areas. At all steps in the process, Paul was very communicative and honest regarding what they could do and when the job could be done. The estimates regarding time were spot on. Once we got to the point of a signed contract, he provided me with a start date and estimated completion period which were very accurate. Paul and Rick listened to what I had to say and occasionally offered suggestions on the best way to achieve what I was interested in doing. During the renovation, Paul answered all of my questions, no matter how ridiculous they were. If I had a concern, Paul would be over to check it out and address or explain. On a regular basis, Paul would let us know when he was planning on being at the house and what the plan was for the work. He always worked around our schedule to the best of his ability. He frequently said he tries to cause minimal disruption for the client and he was as good as his word. It was also refreshing to have a contractor that put in a full day of work, starting around 8a and working a full 7-8 hours; that appears to be a rarity among contractors. 1st Home Improvement's subcontractors were superb. They did quality work, and were as neat and clean as the contractor. At the end of each day, I did not have to worry about cleaning up after any of the crews who worked. When work was not being done by Paul himself, he always made sure he was there, at the start of the day, to go over the work with the crew and also followed up to ensure that things were done according to his and our liking. 1st Home Improvement has definitely showed me that there are contractors out there who are true to their word, and provide quality work. I had to wait awhile for Paul to get to my job, but he was DEFINITELY worth the wait.

This company is wonderful. Very professional. From the beginning when Rich came out to give me an estimate to completion of the project. High quality doors and workmanship. The guys who installed the doors were great. They did a superb job and were very meticulous. They did not rush and cleaned up after they were done. I recommend them highly and will indeed use them again. No point in looking elsewhere. Thanks guys!

1st Choice did a great job working within our schedule Both Paul Nee and Rich Russell are true craftsman that did finish carpentry and installed the blueboard on walls and ceiling. They sub contracted plastering. The plasterer was able to match pattern on remaining ceiling without issue. Overall work was done on time although the cost seemed a bit higher than expected. However as the adage goes you get what you pay for. In this regard quality of work was excellent.

I reached out via their website to get info on installing a new front door. We played a bit of phone tag but I did get a prompt response from them, so I appreciate that. I have not had the service performed but was happy with their responsiveness. Would not hesitate to reach out again if we decide to move forward with the project.
