They did an AMAZING job. They were very efficient and my floors are so beautiful now that I don't want to walk on them at all for fear of scuffing them!

Phil's Floor Service absolutely blew me away with high quality, speed, and a great price. Phil and his team were able to come in within one week of me calling them and got the whole house refinished in two days. I was here when they arrived and they are a finely tuned machine. Every one of Phil's employees jumped right to work. My painter was concerned that he would have to repaint the baseboards since he says most flooring guys get poly on them, but when he came back, he was shocked to see that there was no poly on anything but the floor. He was really blown away by how nicely the floors were finished and said he wishes he used them in his own house. We went with the satin finish and I highly recommend this. I would absolutely not hesitate to use Phil again or to recommend him to any of my family, friends, anyone! Totally great.

We had a bad experience with a previous floor company, who left us high and dry midway through a job. Phil's Floor Services was a lifesaver. They quickly responded to our request for an estimate and were able to begin work soon after. In a couple of days, they filled in missing floorboards, patched cracks in some existing boards, and installed quarter round molding around the baseboards to cover some cracks along the edges. They also sanded and finished the areas they patched. The floors look beautiful, and we were grateful Phil was able to help us with a relatively small job that some other companies we contacted turned down and to work with our somewhat challenging floors (the boards are quite old and thin). Even more impressive, when my mother came over and accidentally walked on wet polyurethane not realizing Phil had been by to apply the final coat (our mistake for not communicating the information to her), Phil came over the very next day to buff and refinish the footprint my mom left at no charge. We would recommend Phil's Floor Services to anyone looking for patching and refinishing of hardwood floors.

Phil responded quickly and provided an estimate the next day. The work was scheduled for a few days later. The workmen were pleasant, punctual and finished the job in one day. The refinished floors are absolutely beautiful! We will call them again when we need other floors refinished.

It was a great experience working with Phil. Everything went according to the plan. Phil is very professional and responsive through email and phone during the planning part of the process. His technicians showed up on time and finished the job as promised. They did a great job with the installation. Phil even quickly replaced a picture frame that was knocked down by accident while moving the hardwood upstairs. I will use Phil's services again and highly recommend him.

I contacted Phil through Angie's List because he was so highly rated; his wife returned my phone call to set up an initial appointment so Phil could look at the house and give a quote. I explained to her what was needed, that I live in a high-rise condo in Boston, and that there is designated parking both for the initial visit as well as for large contractor vans (in the building's humongous loading dock). She explained that Phil would stop by for 15-20 minutes, bring some samples, and provide a quote. On the day of the initial appointment, 15 minutes after the scheduled time, Phil called me claiming that he was outside the building but refused to come in because the location of the house was "too difficult to find parking" (despite the fact that his wife had told him there was parking reserved for contractors in the building's loading dock). When I told him all he had to do was pull into the loading dock, Phil got argumentative and said he will absolutely not take the job regardless of what I had to say. After trying repeatedly to explain to him that parking was not an issue, it became very clear that Phil had some other reason to not want to do the job. The phone call lasted about 5-8 minutes, during which he was very rude and kept making excuses about the parking situation, when clearly there was none. "I don't care, I will not take this job," is what his position was. I'm frankly at a loss for words. I've worked with so many great contractors and service personnel, but never had someone yell at me for such an irrational reason. My advice is that if you don't want to take projects that are within city limits, please say so in your online listing or say so upfront when making an initial appointment. Having read the reviews on here for Phil's service, I am completely shocked at how badly this whole thing turned out.

Response from Phil's Floor Services
Hi [Member name], Sorry for the inconvenience that I had said "I will not bid for the job" because of the following reason: 1) Parking. I knew you may reserve a spot in the loading dock. However, we have more than 1 truck, with a lots of equipment which will be used for the job. 2) Going out and in the building to carry my equipment is complicate. I was in the building before to see previous customers. I had experience with that building. Therefore, Unfortunately, I had to called in and let you know that "I will not bid for the job. " I did not say like you stated above that " I don't care, I will not take this job." I understand you might upset when I tell you that I Will not fill confident to work in that building/ that area. My office person already had mention that " if there is parking or other issue, Phil will have to make decision." Sorry, I had made my decision, which might make you upset. Pls. accept my apology. Again, I was straight, but not rude.

Phil and his crew did a great job. The floors look sensational. The crew was timely and worked hard. I was prepared to have to do some touch up painting on the base boards from the sanding equipment but there wasn't a scratch found. Wow. Very impressed. Another vendor many years ago caused lots of marks so I thought that it could not be avoided. I was also pleasantly surprised that dustless sanding really is almost totally dustless. There was very little cleanup necessary. I expect to have another couple of rounds of floor refinishing to be done over the next year or so and I intend to go right back to Phil.

When I called, the woman on the phone was extremely rude to the point where I had to tell her to stop yelling at me. I actually had to say, multiple times, please stop yelling at me. She was clearly frustrated, and kept yelling that I needed to just listen to her, but I'm not a fan of being yelled at. When the conversation began I'd explained what I needed done The woman informed me that it was likely that the company would need to refinish the entire room, since the new boards may not match. This, in theory, made sense to me. Unfortunately the room where the repair needs to be done is the entire first floor - it's open concept - so refinishing the whole first floor of my house to repair a few boards seemed silly. That does not mean that I didn't understand that it may be my only option, and I certainly didn't fault Phil's Floor Services for making sure I was informed. I in fact appreciate a company who wants to make sure something is done correctly, and that the customer if fully informed of the proper way to do a job. But from the way the woman explained it, I wasn't positive that there wasn't some way that the small repair could be made without doing the entire room, so to clarify, I asked the woman if she was sure there was no way to repair a few boards without having to refinish the whole floor (I was hoping there was some sort of solution that wasn't so extreme). I think the woman thought I didn't understand what she was saying, and that I didn't comprehend that to make the floor match well, the entire floor would (or should) to be done. I tried to explain that I did understand, but was attempting to make sure that there wasn't another solution. At that point she became frustrated with me. It's fine to get frustrated with a customer who doesn't understand. But professionalism is not allowing that frustration to show. If a customer isn't yelling at you, you should NEVER yell at them. Once I'd gotten her to stop yelling at me. I explained that my "room" would be the entire first floor, and that I needed to know if she was saying that I'd definitely need the whole room done. At this point I was being overly clear, direct, and probably a bit curt. I wanted a clear yes or no answer and I wasn't going to tolerate her yelling at me. I also told her that I was an Angie's list member and would hate to see a company with such a good rating get a very poor rating due to an initial phone consultation. She then said "Well now it seems that you're the one who is yelling. But anyway.." Her response was simply petty and completely unnecessary. Before she could finish I told her to have a good day, and that I'd be posting a review of my interaction with her company on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I had a horrible interaction with a representative from Phil's Floor Services when I called to ask about repairing a few warped boards in my kitchen. I had to repeatedly tell the representative to stop yelling at me. No matter how frustrated you may be at a what you perceive to be a customer's inability to understand what you're explaining - if a customer isn't yelling at you, you should NEVER yell at a customer. And once they ask you to stop, you should regain your composure and professionalism and stop yelling.

Phil is responsive and very professional. No surprises relative to the bid he provided us with. The craftsmanship is top notch and work areas were left very clean before they departed. Part of us feels bad we have to put furniture over the floor, its really that nice to look at. I would strongly recommend Phil to anyone considering hardwood floor work.

Highly recommend! The floors were stained form a light oak/maple to a very dark walnut mixture. The floors came out exactly as we wanted. Phil was prompt in giving an accurate quote. When he came to check the floors the weekend before the work started he recommended fixing floor boards in two spots that had been damaged by a spill or pet. The final cost was as quoted plus $120 to repair the floor boards. Work began and finished as scheduled. I will absolutely use Phil's Floor in the future.
Description of Work: Had floors sanded, stained to 50% Jacobean 50% Ebony and refinished in the family room, living room, dining room, two bedrooms and second floor stairs/hallway.
From the first contact to ask for a price quote he was quick to respond and provide the quote. Scheduled the job quickly as well to meet my schedule. Crew was professional, arrived on time and cleaned up after the job. Highly reccomend!

Phil coordinated with me to come in while we were on vacation. A neighbor unlocked the door for them each day. he had the whole job done inside two days. That left plenty of time for the poly to dry before we returned. It was so easy, I wish I had not waited for so long before having it done.
Description of Work: Phil sanded and refinished my living room, den, kitchen, two short hallways and stairs. He put 2 coats of poly on top of natural stain and replaced a broken baluster on the stairs. My home looks brighter and so wonderful. If i could only keep my teenagers from walking on it with their shoes, it could last for years!

I love the floors to bad I'm moving. They look like the day I had them installed again. Phil and his guys made sure to cover any remaining areas of the house since the dustless machine still gives off some dust. Phil will be doing the floors in my new house.
Description of Work: Refinished approx 500' sq ft of maple flooring. He gave a good price on the oil based finish but after talking to him I ended up switching to water based finish so we could return to the house at night but it was much more expensive. I thought the expense was worth it to not have to get a hotel room for 2 nights. We came home about 4 hours after he finished each day and could walk around in our socks.

Phil did not do any actual work, but gave me valuable advice on how to proceed and provided reassurance on the nature of my problems. He refused to accept payment, saying he did not do any actual work. My one complaint is that he promised to email me the name of a product he recommended for patching my floors, which he has not done. I would definitely use Phil if I need work done in the future.
Description of Work: Phil came to my house to evaluate problems with my flooring. He was prompt, polite, thorough and helpful. He gave me advice on fixing some problems myself, and explained why my floor has problems. He recommended that we not do any major repairs.

Everything went great. Phil's people were at my home on time and they worked quickly and with high quality. I love the result and would hire them again!
Description of Work: Installed bamboo floors and reinstalled baseboard molding in a 1300sqft room. Flooring was installed throughout the room, including the closets.
Phil and his wife (who works in the office) were really great to do business - very quick and responsive. The crew arrived exactly on time every day, and the work they did was phenomenal. The floors were scratched up and very discolored, and they managed to clean it all up, and now they look brand new and absolutely beautiful. We were really really impressed and I highly recommend this company and would certainly use them again. Its also important to note that Phil uses high quality Bona products, which I believe make a big difference.

Lots of dust! Phil and his team work quickly so be ready for them to start when they say they will. Communication between this contractor could have been better. I mention this because when you undertake this project know that a dumpster will need to be placed on your property and the fridge and stove need to be disconnected and moved out of the kitchen. This was not communicated to us until kick off day, so we felt a bit stressed. Also, if you are looking to match up existing hardwood floors with a replacement hardwood floor, you need to tell Phil to try and match the color by mixing in some stain before the floors are sealed. It is not possible to match a 70 year old floor to a new floor, but Phil did a great job and the flooring project came out very nice.

Phil and his crew did an amaxing job. We went from a light wood to dark wood finish which can be very difficult. Aside from the floors looking amazing, the work was impeccable. There was barely any damge to the white baseboards in the house. Every nook and cranny was covered including under the heaters and multiple closets. Also there were 2 flights of stairs which made the job more difficult. They were done in 4 days (had initially proposed 5) and came in a the estimated cost.
