Phil's Floor Services

After removing the runner that had covered our beautiful quarter sawn oak stair way since we moved in 20 years ago (house built in 1880), we decided to have the stairs refinished instead of replacing the carpet. We also wanted to sand and refinish our second floor hallway which had been covered w/ wall to wall carpeting. There's also a linen closet off the the hall, also covered w/ carpeting. The hall (and closet) floor is made from wide soft pine boards, Phil responded quickly to our initial call, and came over to give us an estimate. He told us that he and his crew don't sand risers, only treads (which we'd also been told by the other floor refinishers we'd spoken with). We were disappointed, and didn't know how risers which weren't sanded would look after being coated with polyurethane. So my husband decided to try sanding the risers himself. Phil agreed to coat the risers w/ two coats of polyurethane for a reasonable extra fee. He did all of the work while we were away, over a weekend. We returned to find a great looking floor and stairway.

We recently bought a home that had carpet throughout the entire second floor (4 bedrooms, hallway, staircase). Phil removed the carpet, the particle board underneath it, and repaired damaged plywood in two places. Phil installed then hard wood floors throughout the entire second floor and in our dining room. It took about a week and a half for the installation, sanding down, putting the three coats he needed to do. Also, he took care of our dining room - there was hardwood floors already there, but needed to sand them down and do three coats there as well (three coats meaning the staining and 2 coats of poly). I can't say enough about the professionalism that Phil's flooring showed. Phil gave us an estimate (also gave us the Angie's list discount), told us when he would begin, and when it would end. Any time I would contact Phil (whether by phone or email) I would get a prompt response. I, without hesitation, would recommend this company. This was not a cheap project for us but I feel it was money well spend for our home. He did an awesome job and the floors look fantastic. It completely changed the look of the house. We plan to use Phil again soon. We have hardwood floors in our kitchen. We are planning to redo the kitchen so we decided to have Phil come sand down and do the coats once new cabinets are installed in a few months. If you decide to go with this company, be assured that you will get top quality work.

Phil and his crew did an awesome job. We had just bought our house, and the hardwood floors were a mess, and we wanted to get them refinished before we moved in. We did a lot of painting, etc., ourselves, but knew better than to try to sand and refinish the floors ourselves. Phil came right out and gave us an estimate on the spot - for a living room, dining room, bedroom, 2 hallways and 2 small closets: only $702 with the 10% Angie's List discount. He did mention ahead of time that there were a couple of spots that looked like dog urine or some other liquid had seeped into and stained deep into the wood itself, and that he may not be able to get them totally out, but he would do his best. Phil and his crew were able to work with our tight timeframe, showed up on time, and did a beautiful job, coming to the house a total of 3 separate times for the various coats of sealer and polyurethane. The spots he mentioned are still slightly visible, but much better than before, and I appreciated him discussing this with me ahead of time. All-in-all I feel we got excellent service and a job very well done for a very reasonable price.

No problems with arranging and performing the work

I spent $585 on that service. He was awesome. He was responsive and when I called to make an appointment he called me back within a day. He came to look and gave me a written estimate write off with a disclaimer, which was fine. He gave me a rough idea when he would be able to do the work and when I called him he was right on the date which was the 25th of July. He came when he said he would and took about 3 hours to do the work and the floors looked great. He asked for payment right away and I told him that I needed an invoice and he said no problem. He came back with the invoice and I paid him and that was that. It was totally easy and professional. I would definitely use him again.

We were at a loss for a flooring contractor. That is why we joined Angie's list. After reviewing the available contractors on the list it became obvious that we had to talk to Phil's floor service. Our initial inquiry was responded to promptly. When Phil came to the house to look at the job he was on time and professional. He reviewed our wants and needs. He made suggestions about material quality and finish options. He priced the job instantly and we gave him the job. We had found a coupon for Phil on Angie's list for $150.00. Phil accepted the coupon without question. That more than paid for our Angie's list subscription. The material we chose was 3.5" x .75" quarter sawn red oak. Phil advised us that the material was not a stock item. Phil kept us apprised of the material status. Once the material became available we worked out an installation time frame. Phil and his crew arrived when they said they would on all four days of the installation and finishing. They protected the rest of the house. There were no dust issues. Their work is meticulous. Phil was on site with his crew from start to finish. Phil and his people are great. I'm in the construction business and have seen a wide range of quality or lack there of in many different trades. These guys are among the best that I have seen.

Everything was excellent. They were prompt, clean, and they did a great job. The owner is excellent and very nice. He came highly recommended from our painter.

They did a good job and were of excellent quality. They were very professional and fairly priced. They cleaned the place before they left. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

After we contacted Phil's Flooring via Angie's List, Phil Nguyen visited us on 3/6/2011 to look at three rooms in which we wanted to install hardwood flooring. He also looked at several doorways where we wanted better transitions from carpet to wood, or from wood to wood. Phil wrote out an estimate on the spot. The estimate included options for installing prefinished hardwood or installing unfinished hardwood and finishing it, and options for different ways to handle one of the doorway transitions. The estimate compared favorably with others we had received. We called a few days later to accept the proposal, and scheduled the work for 4/11/2011. A supplier delivered prefinished hardwood on 4/6/2011. Phil and his crew did the work on 4/11/2011 and 4/12/2011. We are generally pleased with the result, and we would not hesitate to hire Phil's flooring again. We paid about $1/sqft more for prefinished flooring because it meant we wouldn't have to vacate the house for several days while coatings dried, and because we expect the factory applied coating to be particularly durable. We were slightly disappointed that the prefinshed flooring was relatively short lengths of one to six feet. We may eventually hire someone to coat the floor to fill in the slight chamfer between the prefinished pieces.

It went really smooth, we asked for a quote and they came right away. Based on the good reviews we gave them the job. We were traveling after a couple of weeks and they were able to squeeze the job to our travel dates with a relatively short notice. And they did a great job! We love our floors and they also left the apartment very clean. After the awful experience with the contractor who did the renovation we were very very pleased with Phil's floor. They were professional and sharp.

We were extremely pleased with our experience. Phil quickly provided a detailed estimate, and did not pressure us in the least. He was very responsive on e-mail finalizing the details of the job, and coordinated with our painter to get both jobs done as efficiently as possible. He kept us appraised of his progress throughout the week, and finished the job within the timeframe and the price range he had quoted. We couldn't be happier with the finished product!

Phil was very flexible in scheduling the job. The first phase included the kitchen and rear bedroom and work began on 12/6 and was finished on 12/9. The second phase included the living room and the stairway and work began on 12/13 and was finished on 12/16. Phil and his crew were extremely efficient and provided a high quality result. They were very attentive to containing and cleaning up any dust. Phil was very easy to deal with and we were extremely happy with the result. We would stongly recommend.

The job was done to perfection. The old floor was removed and a beautiful hard wood floor was installed on schedule and within the projected price. Phil even went above and beyond our expectations with the finish and reinstallation of the stove and fridge We would recommend Phil.

Gave me a written estimate the same day he visited for the estimate. When I agreed on the date, Phil said he would be here between 8 - 8:15 AM. He and his crew were there promptly at 8.It's essentially a 3 day process - Day 1 to sand, apply primer coat and 1st coat of poly. Day 2 to rough surface and apply 2nd coat of poly, the stay off till Day 3. Floor came out looking great. There was one disappointment in that I was hoping cracks would be filled, but they weren't. Overall, I'm happy with the job and the price.

We needed to get our floors done as soon as possible before we moved into our new home. We were supposed to have three weeks to get them done, but because of a two week delay in closing, we only had one week to do it. Phil was more than accomodating for us. He came in on that Saturday and Sunday to make sure that the floors would be done by the following Saturday, when we had to move in. He and his crew work quickly and efficiently without compromising quality. In fact, we had several other contractors come in to give estimates for kitchen tiling and carpeting and they ALL stated that the floors looked exceptional! One contractor even asked for Phil's info so that he could contact him for work himself. I would highly recommend Phil for hardwood installation or refinishing. You'll be very pleased!

I contacted Phil after reading all the reviews on AngiesList. Phil's wife contacted me the same day and Phil was at the house that evening reviewing the job and provided an estimate on the spot and gave me his availability. I talked to a few other contractors but decided to go with Phil. Phil and his crew were at the house on the appointed morning and were finished with the entire job in two days. He and his crew are professional and focused on the job at hand. My wife and I are very happy with how the work turned out, the floors and stairs look amazing. Phil's crew did a real good job cleaning up which was a blessing. I will use Phil again for other projects without thinking about it. Oh, and the cost was very reasonable. Good job Phil!

I got Phil?s details from Angie?s list. Seeing that he had a good rating, I called him to get a quote. He showed up on time and gave me the quote in writing and went over the schedule and the scope of work. Work: Phil and his crew did a great job in installing the hardwood floors for us. I?ve noticed that Phil thinks through as to what needs to be done, makes a plan and gets it done. I was impressed as to how well he cut the various corners, edges and the ends of the wood so that they fit well against each other and against the door trims and transition areas. I found Phil to be very reliable and he finished the job on-time and on-budget. Interestingly for a big job like this one, there were no surprises or extras everything went according to the way Phil planned it. Communication: We had great communication with Phil. He listened and addressed any concerns that we had as the job was progressing. He told us to let him know if we were not happy with any part of the work. He was pleasant to work with and we also trusted him with the keys to our home.

This went extremely well. First, I found Phil through Angie's list. He arrived exactly at the time stated to give an estimate. He provided the estimate with Angie's list discount on the spot. Arrived exactly when he said he would, and performed all expected services. AND! The work is beautiful. I am unable to tell exactly where previous work ends and newly installed wood starts. The floors sparkle, and have totally transformed the space. Phil is polite, prompt and a pleasure to work with.

I bought a new house in Dorchester Lower Mills which was entirely floored in hardwood. The floors were in rough shape. Lots of scratches & gouges, holes in places where unknown changes had been made in the past (removed pipes, cable, etc). Phil responded within a day to my request for an estimate. I liked his price and his professionalism, and hired him for the job (I also obtained estimates from two other companies). He was able to start the next day, and was done in 3 days (though I had to wait for the finish to "cure" for a couple of days before I could access the house). The result was nothing short of terrific. Every defect was patched nicely, and the finish was beautiful. I've had this work done in other places before, and ended up with a lot of dust after it was done from the floor sanding. Not this time. There was not a speck of dirt or dust to be found anywhere. The floors looked so great that other contractors I brought in to do work on the house (painter, plumber, electrician) all commented on how great they looked. The results were excellent, and Phil was professional and very easy to work with throughout the process. I would recommend Phil without reservation for anyone looking to get hardwood floors refinished.

Everything went great! Phil was quick to call me back and to come out to give an estimate. We are moving here from Indiana and he was very accomodating of our schedule. I choose him based on price (received 2 quotes) and I do not believe that quality was sacrificed. The floors had 50 years of wax and dirt and the grain was not visible at all - they now look brand new!

It went quite well. We stayed in the house during the 3 coats of poly. but we did have to board our dog.

Phil and his crew did an excellent job. Every person who has come into our new home has commented on the floors! Phil was also fast and efficient, and gave a price that was significantly lower than what I had been quoted by another floorer. We're very satisfied and would absolutely use him again/recommend him to others!

We found Phil on Angie's list and contacted him by email. From the start he was super-responsive. He came out to quote and was very reasonable. He came on the exact day agreed and did a beautiful job; this kitchen floor was horribly stained and it now a showpiece: People walk through the front door, spy the kitchen way down the hall, and comment on it!

Phil's Flooring Services was our first Angie's experience, but won't be our last. He was great. We have a basis for comparison, as almost everything before hiring him had completely soured us on construction projects. We thought that our basement improvement nightmare was over in spring 2009, when the contractor, Coral Construction in Framingham, MA, owned by Bill Pfingston, finally vacated after a year of increasing sloppiness. But in June, after weeks of steady rain, the new floating floor buckled. Pfingston refused to honor the contract terms and Coral went into bankruptcy, pursued by ex-clients with bigger claims than ours. About to leave town, we found someone who said they would seal the floor and lay the original flooring back down. We came home to find the old floor pulled up and the contractor MIA. Enter Phil. He was very clear about what should have been done originally. He convinced us that we should replace the flooring with an engineered floor and not use the original material, which was very cheap in quality. He took the moisture problem seriously, making us feel very confident. And his estimate was extremely reasonable. We changed our spec and decided to tile part of the floor. He was gracious, and prompt with a requote. Phil began work exactly when he said he would. Each stage of the work was done with great efficiency and high quality. The only hitch was when the wood supplier delivered the wrong finish, which was their error. This slowed Phil down only as long as it took for the new flooring to arrive. He was on the spot for the re-delivery, and began work that same day. There were no delays, unexpected charges, or unprofessional moments. He and his crew moved our furniture back in place before they left, removing all rubbish and leaving the basement spotless. The end result? A basement floor that looks absolutely stunning, perfectly installed. A great experience.

I got Phil's name from Angie's List and would echo all of the other positive reviews. We scheduled the job for a long weekend when we planned to be away. Phil and his crew showed up exactly on time on Friday morning, and we were able to return on Sunday night. There was no dust, even in the rooms where the work was done. The floors look beautiful. I would suggest that anyone considering this job do it in warm weather so that you can leave the windows open - the smell of polyurethane is very strong.
