The oven in my range had stopped working and they came out and quickly figured out that it was a broken bottom heating element. Part was ordered and they came back early evening on Halloween, replaced it in under and hour and where out the door before the the 1st kids arrived. And a funny bonus... right before they left one of the guys (sorry can't remember his name!) noticed my fish tank and asked what I had in it... explained how I only had this one algae eater that I'd been trying to get rid of for months because it was too big for the tank, and he said he'd take it! I couldn't get a plastic bag fast enough! So not only was I giving out candy that night, but fish too!! :)
Description of Work: Gave estimate for, then replaced bottom heating element in range/oven.

The repair work was done quickly and to my satisfaction. ScoTt and his team are very professional and helpful.
Description of Work: I have a Bosch built-in dishwasher [Model SHY46C13UC/40] that was not operating. All the lights came on and the dishwasher would fill and drain but it would not wash. In any event I went to Angies list and retrieved the name of Appliance Works of Boston from the list. I choose Appliance Works because of the positive write-ups. Scott, the owner of the company, answered the phone and gave me a time he would be at my home in Boston. He arrived on time, with a helper, and determined the motor on the dishwasher was bad and needed replacement. Given the cost of the repair [$500 for a new pump] he suggested we purchase a new dishwasher. However, since the broken dishwasher had a matching panel which went with the decor of the kitchen, we decided to pursue the repair route. In any event Scott, was very helpful procurring the necessary part and the dishwasher was running two days later after he procurred and installed a new pump. I was pleased with Scott's honesty and candidness regarding the matter and he was very helpful in laying out my options/choices. Obviously, I found the whole ordeal to be a little pricey since the dishwasher was only 4 years old but it is what it is! Scott charged $95 [less $10 with an Angie List coupon] for the initial visit to diagnose the problem [i.e., motor dead] and an additional $485, including the pump, to repair and test the washer. I have waited three weeks to submit this report to insure everything is in order. The dishwasher is operationg fine following his repair. If I have problems with other large appliances in the future I will most certainly call Appliance Works of Boston.

I don't think that I have ever encountered a repair person who is a responsive as Scott from Appliance Works of Boston. He came to service my washer and found that he needed to replace a major part that he needed to order. He called me every other day and sometimes daily to report on the progress. He genuinely sounded as frustrated as I about how long it took for the part to come in. I am pleased to have my machine running again and would enthusiastically recommend Appliance Works to anyone looking for a competent, professional repair company.
Description of Work: My large, front-loading clothes washer was no longer spinning. In addition to the washer repair, I asked Scott to replace the exhaust tubing on my dryer. He found quite a bit of lint built up in the tube he was replacing - so much so that he went into the back of the dryer and cleaned that area also.

Scott was terrific. He came the same day I called and fixed the problem with my Sub Zero refrigerator. He had the part in his truck. Most repair companies say they don't have the part and charge for another trip. He is one of the best repair man i ever had. He is honest reasonable and know his stuff. This is the second time I have used him. I recommend him highly.

Called about 3:50 p.m. on Monday, got answering machine suggesting they would call back within the hours. They called back early Tuesday morning and quoted price of $79.90 for service call (they knew I was from Angieslist). They came on Wednesday early within the bracket of time they set. The dishwasher was stuck in a cycle and needed to be re-set. Then it worked fine. After several tests, service was finished. The two workers were professional and helpful with advice.

Scott always arrives on-time and well prepared. He's a bit of a magician in that he seems to have parts for items I hadn't even given him a heads-up on (an inline water filter for my older Sub-Zero is one example.) He and his colleague Michael are very personable and professional. The repair work is expertly done. Scott is a teacher's teacher, in that he teaches courses on repair for both Sub-Zero and Wolf to other providers in the area, and his expertise--and enthusiasm for his work--really shows. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my appliances!
Description of Work: 1. Repair & replace parts on a 48" Sub-Zero 2. Repair a Gaggineau dishwasher 3. Install inline water filter for Sub-Zero 4. Replaced evaporator in my second 48" Sub-Zero. Concerning this repair, Scott immediately recognized the evaporator problem--which was very subtle--when I suspect repair services would have missed it. If the problem had been missed, it would have been a lot more money and hassle for me 6 months later, when the faulty evaporator damaged the compressor. 5. Check on a replacement glass for a Dacor double wall oven/repair pending

They were punctual and friendly. They only charged me for the trip. They really knew what they were doing and did it quickly. They were also doing some other work in the neighborhood at that time. They said they would come out once a year and clean out the ducts for free as it should be cleaned every year. They were fairly priced too. They were just excellent.

If your spin cycle is working for small loads but not for large loads, like mine, it might be a drive coupling that needs to be replaced. The parts cost 28.60 from Appliance Works. The other charges were for labor and travel. I thought these prices were quite reasonable and was very happy with the work.
Description of Work: Two workers arrived at my condo on time and went to the basement to work on my washer. The spin cycle wasn't working well. It's a common problem. They found that the drive coupling was faulty and that during the spin cycle the basket (of my top load washer) wasn't completely catching on the engine. The guys replaced the coupling and recomended I get a front load washer in the future. They had a lot to say about their energy efficiency and in general were very professional.

We were in need of having someone service our Asko washer. Placed the call and within 20 minutes the call was returned and this was on a weekend. The gentlemen gave us some very helpful suggestions to look out for and suggested we call the manufacturer or someone that services that type of machine. He also said if we could not find anyone that he would take a look.
Description of Work: We were not able to use their services however they gave great helpful suggestions over the phone! Unfortunately, we had to use the manufactures service people. I would definetly use them in the future.

Our sub-zero refrigerator was not maintaining its temperature in the non-frozen food section. We called a company that had done work for us in the past, who determined that it needed the replacement of a major part. Since the frig was under warranty, and he was not an authorized repair person, he suggested that we contact a company that was authorized. I found Appliance Works in Angie's list and contacted them before noon the same day. They called back soon after I had called, and offerred to come that day, since we were at risk of losing all of our refrigerated, non-frozen food. They did come later that same day when they said they would come, confirmed the finding of the previous repair person, gave me the price, I approved the work, and they performed the complete repair in less than an hour. They really understood what they were doing, explained the problem very well, explained our options if we didn't want to do the repair, and performed their work in an efficient and competent manner. Because the appliance was under warranty, we saved at least $200 over what the repair would have cost otherwise. While they were here, they asked about our relatively old Thermador built-in double-oven. When I told them that the upper oven had not worked for some time, they offerred to take a look at it. They quickly determined that it could be fixed at a very modest cost of $140 which, compared to buying a new appliance that would fit in the space, was a no-brainer. So, we authorized that fix. They ordered the part, and performed the repair yesterday (12/11/09), again, efficiently and competently. Finally, they were very enjoyable to deal with. They were happy to answer our questions and gave us clear, unbiased information about our options. They really know their business! I'm 67 years old, and I feel this is the best service experience I have ever had!
Description of Work: Replaced a major part for the non-frozen food section of our sub-zero refrigerator. The part was an "Evap Pull Unit". The repair also involved injecting freon into the unit, I think.

I have used them for the last couple of years. I like working with them because they come and they do the work. They are very professional and very responsive. I have a sub-zero and I wasn't finding anybody to do the repairs. They are authorized, so they specialize in sub-zero repairs and I have had to have quite a few repairs on my sub-zero refrigerator. People were coming and not really repairing it, but this guy repaired it. I have also had somebody else come a couple of times to repair my thermador oven. I just decided to stick with him because he does what he says he is going to do and he comes back.
Description of Work: The appliance repair company came out and replaced the digital clock in my thermador oven.
