Appliance Repair, Appliance Repair - Small, Appliance Sales and Installation
About us
We service washers, dryers, dishwashers, all cooking appliances, refrigerators. We are authorized subzero service. Service is what we do. Fast and on time.
I called Scott for help with my 11-year old dish washer. After describing the issue (dishwasher stuck in heating/sending, never completing the cycle), Scott asked for the model and serial number, to do more research. He called me an hour later, to notify me that the repair will probably include replacing the computer - $190 part + labor. He recommended not doing the repair, as the dishwasher is too old and I should get a new one. It's rare to see a technician giving up on work and giving you the advice that would serve you best - pass on the service. All of this was free of charge. I'll definitely use Scott's help in future, when the need arises.

Professional, polite, quick, knowledgeable. Have no idea if the cost was reasonable, but the diagnosis visit cost was only $89 when most repair people charge $100.

Scott arrived on time at my house to look at the clothes dryer which did not work and didn't turn on at all. He brought another repairman with him. They spent a full hour taking apart and checking out the components of the dryer to see what was wrong. They were very conscientious and showed me what was wrong. Scott did not recommend that the dryer be repaired due to the cost. The electronic components (faulty delay board and face) were destroyed by a power surge. I appreciate the honesty since he could have tried to get me to repair it which would have meant additional business for him. He also made a recommendation to go with a more basic dryer to save money. He was a little slow to respond to e-mails/calls but the patience was rewarded. I would absolutely use him again. He was honest, punctual, thorough and competent, and very reasonable,

I guess this was easy, except for getting the part, which had to be ordered from LG, and which took several weeks. Two guys came but one did all the manual work. I presume this was not complicated, but they were prompt, organized, and efficient. I would use them again for all appliance repairs.

I had been living with my washer and dryer problems for some time, but when the dryer wouldn't stop dyring after leaving it for 4+ hours, I knew it needed to be fixed. After having Appliance Works come out and fix the issue in 20 minutes, I thought 'Why didn't I do this sooner?' The guys are always friendly and arrive promptly. They seem to know everything there is about appliances, including the older models. After replacing the blower wheel on the dryer, the technician then fixed the lid on my washer, so that I wouldn't have to slam it down just to begin a cycle. He also took a quick peek at a lightbulb in my Viking oven free of charge and fixed the problem immediately. I'll definitely call them again if I have any appliance problems... this time I won't wait, though.
Description of Work: We have used Appliance works for almost 2 years now on a variety of issues. They have repaired our Sub-Zero bar fridge and large refridgerator in the past to our satisfaction. Most recently they repaired our Maytag washer and dryer.

Appliance Works of Boston repaired the same refrigerator a year ago when the freezer couldn't keep things frozen. Scott said if the problem recurred, we should get a new refrigerator because it has a slow leak in an inaccessible place. The temperature in the freezer compartment started creeping up again - ice cream was very soft, but ice cubes were OK. I called and they said they could recharge the coolant and it would probably last another year They came the next day and the freezer unit is fine again. My 4 year old grandson was visiting and they were really nice to him, letting him hold some of their tools and patiently explaining their work.

Appliance Works listen to description of problem, indicated what possible causes would be and gave estimate of what those differing causes would cost to repair/replace and took serial number so would be sure had correct parts with them on visit. They arrived when they said they would, completed repair satisfactorily, and as estimated.

The service light in my refrigerator was flashing. I cleaned the condenser and cycled the power as suggested in the manual, but the light kept coming back on. Scott and his assistant Michael arrived on time the day after I called. They quickly identified the problem - holes in the evaporator had allowed the coolant to escape, and the part had to be replaced. The good news was that the part was still under warranty. The bad news was that the job was $475 dollars. It would take about an hour to fix. The work was done efficiently and in the time indicated. Scott and Michael were friendly and answered all my questions. $475 for 2.5 man-hours (less the cost of the coolant refill) does seem rather high. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that SubZero requires them to charge a standard rate for the job in order to be a certified technician. Otherwise, my price score would have been lower.

Our double oven needed some repairs; Upper broiler lights/heat was weak and the lower broiler was not working at all. Also the Oven clock & timer were not working and one of the door gaskets needed to be repaired. Also needed a gasket replacement on my dishwasher. When I called them, they answered immediately and said they could come the next day. 2 people came (one might have been in training) and diagnosed everything pretty quickly. We needed a new oven board (which I knew before-hand as I had this problem years before) and that both my broiler heaters were fried - he took them out and showed them to me. He gave me an estimate on the board and said it would probably take about two weeks to get the parts. While he was here, I showed him where liquid/grease had gotten between the glass panels of the oven door. He showed me how to take the door apart to fix it and if we couldn't do it, he would do it when he came to fix the oven. In about 2 weeks or less, he called and said the parts were in and I think he came either the next day or day after that. Fixing both the oven and dishwasher took 11/2 -3 hours, can't really remember. When he was done, he tested everything and all worked fine and still work today. We had tried to take the oven door apart to clean between the glass panelss, but it proved to be more difficult than we thought. I told him we had tried and he said he didn't have time that day but would come back when he was in the area and do it for us. I have not seen him since. However, this was a minor thing and an extra request. He did the job we needed to be done, his estimate was close to what we paid and he was efficient and very nice to work with. We would certainly recommend the Applicance Works to others and would use them again.

The guys were on time, friendly, and well prepared to address the issue with my oven. They brought the appropriate replacement part and had the work completed in about a 1/2 hour. They explained what was causing the problem and told me what they would do to fix it. They did fix it, and now my oven takes only about 7 minutes to heat up to the desired temperature. We live in JP and one of the guys told me he lived in JP as a kid and attended the school next door! I recommend these guys without hesitation!

Appliance Works was great -- they called me back within 10 minutes, and were able to come the same-day for my service appointment. I was given a window of 3-5, but they did not make it until after 6. It was not a huge problem, just a minor inconvenience. The tech diagnosed and fixed the issue within 20 minutes, and even gave us a few tips on keeping the refrigerator running smoothly. I would definitely recommend them!

I called Appliance Works of Boston on 11/7. Got a call back 2 hours later. I asked did they want the make and model of my Matag washer. I was told no...a technician would contact me shortly. I asked if they could provide service on Saturday 11/10 because I was without a washer. My washer was making a rumbling sound at the beginning of each cycle, and it also will not spin dry the clothes at the end. No problem, they said, they can take care of it. I NEVER received a call back until I called to confirm that they were going to come on Saturday, which should have been a red flag! Just as I had called another service company, I receive a call from Appliance Works saying that they can do the work that Saturday. They has schedule between 12 and 3 pm but called that morning to say they had a cancelation in the area and could come right away. After 1 and a half hours, another red flag, the technician showed up, came in, run the the machine for 2 minutes, told us it was the transmission and that he was so sure that he would not check anything else... He charged us $89.95 for the "service call" for a total of 5 minutes, said he was going to call back with a repair estimate for the parts and labor and was NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN!!! BUT, the check was cashed!!! 90.00 for 5 mins!!!! AND WE ARE STILL WITHOUT A PROPER WORKING MACHINE!!!! WHAT A RIP OFF!!! We are new to Angie's List, this is our first experience hiring a provider from the list and it's pretty much like fishing out there on your own... This company had rave reviews, but ripped us off and was just plain lousy!!! Although we are out $90.00, I guess we still have to limp along with our broken washer until we could come up with the $600-$700 to purchase a new one, because we can't afford another service call!!!!! Appliance Works of Boston was just plain AWFUL!!!!!!

My sister had problems with my washer on Friday. I called Appliance Works on Saturday, described the problem and gave him the model number for the washing machine. He scheduled to come between 9 and noon on Monday. They arrived close to 9am. Promptly went to work and had the machine fixed in 10 minutes. They even told me to keep the machine (It is 8 yrs old) because it is a very good machine. His service charges were exceptionally reasonable and I was thrilled at the final cost. Great job and personable contacts.

When I first called Appliance Works of Boston and explained my dryer was not heating up they suggested a few troubleshooting tips prior to them coming out. This was very thoughtful and would have saved me the repair expense if it had resolved the issue. Unfortunately it did not, but when I called back they scheduled a same day visit after inquiring about my dryer brand to ensure they brought the correct parts to perform the service. They also tried to accomodate arriving during the earlier end of the time slot per my request. I was very happy with the service received.

Called Scott on Wednesday and he was able to come out same day, but that wouldn't work for my schedule. So we agreed for him to come on Friday, and he gave me a window of 11am-1pm. He arrived around 12:15 with his partner. Within about 10 minutes they diagnosed the problem and gave me a quote for the repair work. They had the spare parts needed in his truck. Total work tool about 1 hour 15 minutes, just as he had predicted. Overall they were prompt, courteous and very helpful. I'm not sure about the cost of the parts vs. labor, since he did not itemize those costs on the bill. But based on my after-the-fact estimates for the parts (I looked online and found most of the items on ebay or at parts dealers), I think the retail cost for the parts was probably around $200, which means the labor was about $350 for two people, 1.5 hours of work. Not low-priced, but hey it's a Sub-Zero refrigerator so there's some premium implied. All in all it's certainly "within range" of what I would have expected and not something I'm complaining about.
Description of Work: Scott and his partner came to repair my Sub-Zero 511 refrigerator. Frost was accumulating inside the refrigerator main compartment and it turned out that the evaporator needed to be replaced.

They were responsive and professional from the first call to the final repair.
Description of Work: I have a a Fisher-Paykel clothes dryer that stopped working and needed service. I went through the FP website to find local authorized service providers and chose from the list based on Angie's list reviews. Appliance Works was responsive and very professional. I needed a new drive belt and since it is not a common model, they had to order the part. They gave an estimate of when the part would arrive and they came out and completed the repair when they got the part. They kept me informed about when the part would be delivered and then scheduled a service call. They arrived on time and fixed the dryer quickly. I was very pleased with my experience with Appliance Works from the first call to the completed repair. As an added bonus, I even got 10% off for an Angie's List coupon, the accepted it happily. I would use them again.

I called them at 5:30 upon returning home and finding a wet floor and a non-working refrigerator. They came the next afternoon, which by that time, the frig was working again! They looked at it and stated that it was likely to stop again and the computer was probably the problem. Within 48 hours it had stopped again. I called them to order the part and return to fix it. They arrived about 24 hours later, installed the new computer, and the problem was resolved.
