Scott and his employee came right on time at the same day I called them, opened up the dishwasher and immediately found the issue. They had to order some parts and as soon as they got the parts (within 2 days) they came right back to install. Overall it was a great experience (thanks for the recommendations here) and I would definitely use them again.

They came with two people the owner and a guy who did the work, they were very responsive and on time. Overall they helped me out a lot but my voucher from Angie's list only went so far, and I had to do some of the work myself after they left...anyways I had a dishwasher for Christmas!
Description of Work: Came out to look at a broken dishwasher, advised to get a new one, provided reco for supplier, called him back to install the new dishwasher, which went ok apart from that I had to reinstall the base plate/ toe kick agin myself because they had missed the one of the screws.

I can recommend Scott & Mike without reservation. We wanted our stove to be in top condition when we put our house on the market. I had another appointment afterwards so unfortunately they didn't have too much time but they squeezed us in. They opened up the stove, diagnosed the problem, and made the repairs (they had the parts they needed, which I was not expecting). They also tested each burner, and showed me the correct way to install the burner grates, all within 30 minutes (!) and for a very reasonable price. Our stove had needed repair for at least two years and I am kicking myself that I didn't find these guys sooner! It was obvious that they knew exactly what they were doing; I was literally blown away by their speed and skill. I will definitely call them again if I ever need any appliance repair. P.S. Scott mentioned to me that he teaches appliance repair at a local vocational school. He is an expert in his field and it shows.

Two weeks later, after another cold snap, the problem reappeared, and I called them to say so and to let them know about their failure to restore my installation to its original state. I received no reply. I then called another service provider, Same Day Service Co, Inc., who came and performed a thoroughly professional job. They accurately identified the source of the problem: not a sticking sensor, but the fact that the supply pipe under my sink had been installed too close to the outside, north-facing wall, and that the water in the pipe had frozen. They persuasively demonstrated to me that this was the case by disconnecting the supply at the dishwasher intake; when there was no water flow, it was clear that a blockage upstream was the problem. They recommended that I keep the cabinet doors under the sink open overnight to allow the water in the supply pipe to thaw gradually, and they provided me with useful precautions for when the water thawed, warning me to be prepared to turn off the main supply if the pipe had been damaged. As it turned out, everything was fine, and there was no emergency. The dishwasher worked normally the next day (today), and I got some pipe insulating tubes for the pipes under my sink. I'm now confident that I know what to do to keep the problem from reoccurring. I wouldn't have known that from the poor communication on the part of Appliance Works of Boston. But what is more, Same Day Service restored my built-in installation to its original state, making sure to install new, well-fitting screws to secure the bottom plate. They were also sensitive to the custom installation and made sure that I was satisfied with their work when restoring it. Their interaction with me was excellent, and they informed me of options I could pursue for service contracts for all my appliances should I desire them, without any pressure. Appliance Works of Boston just let me swing in the wind. I would enthusiastically recommend Same Day Service on the basis of me experience with them and warn anyone to stay away from Appliance Works of Boston.
Description of Work: His helper took apart the bottom plate of my dishwasher and did an inspection. The problem was that the dishwasher wasn't pumping water, during an unusually cold spell. They said that the sensor for the water pump had been stuck closed, but now that the outside temperature had moderated, it was working again. That was all they said. They accepted the Angie's List deal of $49 for $100 worth of appliance repair that I had already paid and left matters as they stood. However, after they left, I noticed that they had failed to replace the screws securing the bottom plate, and when I tried to close the door there was rubbing and a noise. I had to improvise with old screws I had on hand, only one of which barely fitted.

There was nothing wrong with his dishwasher . As I explained to him that his pipes that feed water to the dishwasher tends to frezze when it's very cold. That day we arrive was in the mid 30s so yes the pipes were ok at that time. We did reimburse his money back. We try to always give 100 present customer service and allways go the extra mile. Thank you very much.

We had ongoing issues with our washer. It would stop mid cycle and we would need to drain the water. It has been an ongoing issue for over a year. We talked to Scott on the phone and he was very responsive. He gave us some advice but it did not resolve the issue. January 15th, Scott came by and looked at our washer. He did not see any issues with our washer and advice us to have the washer run through the longest cycle with vinegar. It looks to be helping. Our meeting with Scott was very positive. He was generous with his time and did not push us to do any unnecessary work.

I called Appliance Works of Boston based on the Angie's List reviews and ratings I'd read. Scott had figured, based on our phone conversation, that the dishwasher needed a timer. His initial tests on the dishwasher confirmed it. Scott got on the phone and called his supplier looking for the part. His first supplier didn't have the part. Scott called another supplier and this one found the part. The part came in about a week later. Scott returned with the part and had the dishwasher working properly again within 20 minutes. Scott saved us from having to buy a new dishwasher by finding the part. According to Scott, these old dishwashers can run forever since they aren't full of quick failing electronics. Thanks Scott.

It went well. To start, he was very patient with me and my busy schedule. Over the phone, he helped find where the model # was, in order for him to order the part. The part cost $175, but it is for a Bosch stove. he confirmed the price with me prior to placing the order. I then heard from him promptly within the same week, that the part was in. We finally settled on a Saturday ! I was very pleased that he was able to work on a Saturday ! Scott arrived at agreed upon time, put the door skin on in no time, and it looks wonderful ! He also brought a moving blanket to protect the floor from any damage.
Description of Work: Replaced Bosch over door skin..he ordered the whole part required beforehand.

Appliance Works was great. Price seemed about standard, but service was outstanding. They were able to diagnose the problem over the phone that was causing my dryer to squeak loudly, in order to avoid making separate service calls to diagnose and then return with parts. They were punctual and efficient in their work, and worked with me to find a time that would fit in my schedule. They stated that there may be an additional problem causing the squeak, and that if it came back at any point, just remind them of the additional problem and they would come out try another fix without charging me for another service call.

Scott is cut from a different mold that most service folks I meet these days. He isn't primarily motivated by money. I'm sure he likes to be paid fairly, but not when the customer would be better served by NOT hiring him. Case in point: I called and left a message about a problem with our 7-year-old clothes dryer. Scott called within an hour or so. I explained the problem; he asked detailed questions then diagnosed the problem. He said it would the replacement of the electronic control module. He said, too, that the control is an expensive part. He took down our model number and volunteered to find out the exact price and call us back. A couple hours later, Scott called back, saying the part would cost $169 plus tax and that, with labor and a service call charge, the total would be $340-350. He advised us against replacing the part, though. He said that the GE machines of that era (ours was made in 2007) generally need new motors after about 8 years. He recommended replacing the dryer rather than taking the high chance that we'd end up paying more than its value for repairs within the next couple years. Since he was so helpful, I also asked him about our clothes washer, which "times out" during water-filling cycles, requiring us to press the "start" button as many as six or seven times during each load. He was puzzled about that until I mentioned that we have well water and that our water pressure is lower than most. He said that he was pretty sure that the model we have has a "flow meter," which measures how quickly water is entering the machine. Simpler machines just measure the amount of water IN the machine, no matter how long it takes for it to fill. But flow meter machines can time out if they don't recognize the small amount of water trickling in. He concluded that there was no point in making a service call for this appliance, either. He suggested that, when we replace this washer, we get one without a flow meter. He said that such a washer would likely be less expensive and more reliable, too. Next, I asked him about our dishwasher, which periodically clogs, causing our dishes to be filled with dirty water and the machine to end up with a pool of dirty water in the bottom. For a while, I told him, I just wet-vacuumed the dirty water out and re-ran the machine. The dishes came out clean then, but we still ended up with a pool of water, as though the drain were partly clogged. Then, suddenly, the machine started working normally again. A few months later, this whole process repeated again. Scott said to check that the drain hose from the dishwasher has a "high loop," so that the water must travel up a foot or two on its way to our cesspool; that way, the drain water can't back up into the washer. I asked him how to do that, and he suggested, "Any way you can. You can even use a twist tie or a shoelace." Then I asked Scott how high the loop should be, and he said, "As high as you can, under the sink." So, having graciously given me quite a bit of his time, Scott helped us with three problems and never even came for a service call. I wish all repair people had that kind of generosity, common sense, and concern for the customer's well-being. When we next have an appliance problem, we won't put off asking for help. We'll call Scott right away!

Scott came out to take a look at my dishwasher which, though not that old, had completely stopped working. Unfortunately it turned out that my machine was in fact dead but Scott was so helpful, taking extra time to tell me just what I needed and did not need in my next machine. He also suggested places to purchase a machine and the price I could expect to pay.

I left a message for Scott on Friday night regarding an issue with my dryer, which I had cleaned thoroughly (it was full of lint) and was now making some noise (and smelled like something was burning). I was hoping to get a service call for Saturday. To my surprise, within minute of leaving him a message, he called me back. He informed me that he could not come out on Saturday but then said he wanted to help me as much as he could over the phone. I told him I wasn't really expecting him to interrupt his Friday night to call me and was speechless at his genuine desire to merely help me out. Scott and I discussed my situation in detail, and he very patiently provided some suggestions and said that if things did not work, I could always call him, and he could come out the following week. Long story short, I proceeded with "phase 2" of the process by myself, and the dryer is all set! The actual issue turned out to be even smaller than what we were discussing (i.e., I had not messed up as badly as I thought on Friday), but it was Scott's pointers that prompted me to go at it a second time and resolve everything. I'd venture to say that there are not many people out there who would be willing to call back under these circumstances (not an emergency, Friday night, no money to be made, etc.), yet Scott did. For that, I absolutely felt that writing this review is the least I could do. If I need service in the future, you know whom I will call. Thank you again, Scott!
