sanded and finished 3 rooms, oak in kitchen, douglas fir in living room, clear spruce planks which also required resetting nailsin TV room. Oil based finish. Service was on time, clean professional. owner replied by phone when contacted. My wife and I would recommend only wood floors to anyone. I would also no use water based floor finish ever again.

Herb and Steve were here everyday, on time and were extremely hard working, professional and helpful throughout the process. The kitchen demo and removal was challenging and tough work. They went about the job with a good attitude while providing professional results. (Keep in mind this project was being done during the ridiculous heat wave). Just staying focused and hydrated was tough but they never stopped or even slowed down. We were very impressed with the work ethic they possessed. Herb was patient, helping us to choose the wood and answering many questions along the way. We are very pleased with the way the floors turned out. They look great. Thank you Herb! and Steve! Herb and his family of workers was able to blend into existing oak flooring and made it look like the floor was installed when the house was built. I"ve added pictures to show the quality of his work, he is super to work with and I highly recomend him for any wood flooring job that needs to be done.. I live on the Cape and he will come to the mid cape area a lot of others will not. We are going to put wood on the whole second floor and will be using "Only Wood Floors" to do the work.

Herb and his crew did a fantastic job. The quality of the install is tremendous. Floors look fantastic. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves, and worked efficiently to get the job done. I had another company finish one of my floors and they did a terrible job. The guys from Only Wood Floors were great. They were on time, on budget, responsive, did a wonderful job and even corrected the problems the previous floor finishing company created.

We called Herb and set up an appointment to give us an estimate for replacing the carpeting and existing wood flooring in our recently acquired home. Herb was prompt, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and took time to explain all the things he would need to do to complete the job and answer our many questions. Within a few days he had provided an estimate, and then worked with us to explore various options and fine tune what we wanted, After meeting with him and working with him to finalize what we wanted done, we had gained great confidence that all the great things that had been written about him on Angie's List were in fact true. Although we did get other estimates for the work (from other very highly rated folks on Angie's List), Herb became our clear choice very early in the process. For reference, our cape style house is nearly 1800 square feet in size, which except for three tiled bathrooms and some hardwood flooring in the kitchen and hallway was carpeted throughout, including the stairway. The carpeting had been badly stained by soot deposits possibly from candles and a poorly vented fireplace that professional cleaners were unable to remove, and the wood floors in the kitchen and hallway were poorly installed and simply nailed in place over top of some older vinyl flooring. Once we gave Herb the go ahead, he gave us a start date and an estimated time to complete of two weeks. He started the day he said he would, and somewhat to our amazement given how big the job appeared to be, two weeks later the job was complete. By the end of the first week, we were completely amazed by Herb's progress. All the carpet and the older hardwood floors, including particle board underlayment and vinyl flooring had been completely removed, as had the stairs, and new unfinished flooring had been installed, and the new stair treads and kickplates had also been installed. This included all of the closets, and hallways as well -- basically every square inch of flooring on two floors that wasn't part of a bathroom had been removed and replaced. By the end of the second week the bannisters, balusters, and newel post had also been installed, and all the new wood hand been sanded and given three coats of oil based polyurethane. Herb gave us frequent updates throughout the process, and when a question arose about something that wasn't entirely clear he made sure to contact us with plenty of notice to get clarification, rather than just assume we wanted something a certain way. The floors are absolutely *gorgeous* and the house has been completely transformed! Its clear that Herb takes great pride in his work and likes treating people fairly. He was wonderful to work with and we *strongly* recommend using him.

Our wood floors are 110 year old vertical pine, in very poor condition with lots of wear, poorly done patches and missing boards. We thought they were beyond repair and saving. Herb assured us that if he could find the wood to do the repair that we would have a beautiful result: this pine is no longer in production and must come from salvage from other homes etc, but when finished is a nice red/gold color. He found the boards at a supplier and came up with an idea on how to incorporate the old and "new" boards which would look the best. He stained the newer wood to match the age of the old and the result was very good. We now have very pretty antique floors. Herb came on time, did a great job, was very pleasant to work with, cared about the result and charged an extremely fair price. We actually padded his bill a little because we thought he undercharged us!

He was professional from initial contact to final visit, did everything he said he would, when he said he would. His advise regarding stain colors to disguise discoloration from the previous owners' pet was much appreciated, the floors are beautiful. He started on Monday morning and applied the final coat on Friday, as promised. I coordinated everything from out-of-state and Herb didn't miss a beat. Highly recommend!

Herb Melo, owner (774-406-9431) I have wanted wood floors for several years, dealing with the same wall to wall carpet for 20 years, but had an extremely reluctant husband. He finally agreed to hardwood floors n the dining/living room/hallway area. I started my search for a company; imagine my disappointment when one company would not replace carpeted steps, others who charged in exuberant price for steps, side boards and a separate price for the actual floors. I was about to give up my search when I droveby a home and saw an ?Only wood floors? truck in front of it. I wasn?t going to call but decided one more quote wouldn?t hurt. Well Thank Goodness! When I met Herb, he immediately struck me as a very honest hardworking man (reminded me of my father in his younger days). He wasn?t concerned or afraid of giving me past client information for referrals and also referred me to Angie?s List. He gave me a fair quote and promised he would handle the steps in a manner that allowed us to avoid the stain smells and stay in our home for the evenings. His quote was the best and most reasonable we received. The work was incredible; my floors looked beautiful and professional completed. They worked around my couches (others told me to leave them on my deck) and swept the floor and surrounding areas after the work was completed. They even vacuumed the grass area where they cut the wood!! I knew the work was beautifully done and made to last but all was confirmed when I saw my reluctant husbands surprised, pleased face when he came home. This man, who does not like change, turned to Herb and asked him to measure the bedrooms. We now have two bedrooms done and the master bedroom will complete on Monday 2/25/13! Herb was kind enough to complete the rooms on our schedule and has always showed up on time. My house is less dusty and the air quality better with all hardwood. This would not have happened had Herb and crew not been so professional, hardworking and cooperative with our living area! It?s so refreshing and renders to less stress to have work done without chasing the contractor down and wondering if the timeline will be as stated. Herb Melo was a pleasure to work with. He came out personally to give me the estimate. His quote was significantly below other quotes that we received and he used a better quality product and was willing to do more work for the money. The stairwell came out great. Herb used the thicker, higher quality oak treads on the stairs. Other companies wanted to charge more money for a cheaper oak tread on the stairs. Herb's final product came out great. The refinished floors look like they are brand new. Herb cleaned up the work site and left no trace of the demolition. We are incredibly pleased with his work. Herb also made it a point to come out personally after the job was finished to thank us and ask us how we liked the finished product. He is incredibly kind and he takes pride in the work that he does. He completed our entire project in 4 days. At the end he even spent some time with us giving us tips for maintenance of the flooring. We highly recommend working with Herb.

We had a very good experience with Herb. He was extremely polite and professional and his price was competitive especially since the work was done very well. He showed up exactly on time and the job was done that day just like he estimated. He cleaned everything up and his attention to detail was spot on. He went the extra mile to get rid of squeaks in the floor and worked with me to match flooring that we already had in the house so that it looked nice. His partner was very friendly and professional as well. I would use him again.

Herb & his co-worker arrived exactly on schedule a week before Thanksgiving (as promised). We left them alone in the house to perform the work as we had other scheduled commitments to tend to. Herb stated that the first day would be mostly demo but they may get a bit of flooring in. That is precisely what we found when we got home after day one. The second day we arrived home to a completed project. The whole area was vacuumed clean (as the demo was a bit dusty) Herb was able to eliminate the transitions between the rooms that we had been living with for 10 years. It made a big difference in making the rooms flow together even better. Most impressive to me was Herbs enthusiasm for the work he does & he has a deep knowledge of wood flooring & techniques in construction. When they were cutting the floor down they found it necessary to add a small molding edge along the island area. Herb brought the molding back with him for day two, explaining the complication & providing the solution! I think the molding was like the crowning touch in making the cabinetry looking like custom built units. All of the wood trim was nailed back exactly as it had been removed. I did have the slightest bit of paint touch up to perform myself to finish the kitchen project off. Herb was one of only two vendors that suggested removing the floor under the Vinyl and the result prove unequivocally that the extra work to remove the top plywood was the only proper choice! We had 5 estimates in all and 3 of them were going to overlay the vinyl with the hardwood. Those folks and their shortcut proposals should be embarrassed to call themselves wood flooring professionals I almost hate giving such a glowing review as I do not want to find Herb so busy on jobs for others that I cannot get him back the next time I have a project, but Only Wood Floors will be the folks doing my next floor job guaranteed! Herb really gets the concept of under commit and over deliver. They work hard and do great detailed work.

Herb was very nice, promptly returned my call and was on time for our appointment. His estimate was in line with others I received. I would have hired Herb but unfortunately the scheduling did not work out. He tried very hard to make it happen, rearranging other jobs, but it just didn't work out.

The installation was great, overall. Herb was great to work with, very communicative (which I think is important), including prompt arrival for an estimate,detailed information surrounding the estimate, and a phone call to ask if he could start the job earlier, whereupon he arrived when he said he would, and focused only on our job (in other words, he worked only our job until it was complete). Price was great, and the new floors look great. I will say that the baseboards that were removed and replaced after the install were a little more dinged up than I had hoped, resulting in more "cleanup" for me after the job, but that's not an easy thing to deal with and Herb was very upfront about it from the start. I would highly recommend Herb and Only Wood Floors for your hardwood floor needs.

Herb and his crew installed stairs and three rooms of flooring. The entire experience was fantastic from the initial estimate to clean up. The time of installation was short, the crew was helpful and professional, and the finished product was stellar. Would recommend Herb and his crew to everyone. I was extremely happy working with Herb who is the owner of Only Wood Floors. He was very responsive and easy to get a hold of. He came right out to give me a quote just after I had another contractor give me a quote. Everything Herb told me during the initial consultation was right on - no cutting corners or trying to convince me to do things that were "cheaper". Herb sent me the quote within 3 days of his consultation and it seemed very fair for the amount of work he was going to do. He and his crew arrived on time every day and were very accommodating with my requests and very friendly. They finished when they said they would and left the house very clean. There was a little dust from the sanding here and there but I could tell they did wipe most things down before they put down the poly in the areas they did the work. The floors looked great and I got exactly what I wanted. Overall I had a wonderful experience working with Herb Melo, especially because I value my time and I really appreciate dealing with honest, hard working people who are very responsive and always on time. I would highly recommend Only Wood Floors to anyone who wants their next flooring project to go smoothly and end up with great looking floors!

Mr. Melo answered our inquiry call promptly and came to inspect the house and see what we wanted to do. He brought samples. He looked at the area to be re-floored and at the beams and studs in the room beneath it. He explained why he would need to place the wood going in a particular direction and he suggested that he could put "thresholds" in at the perpendicular where the room connected with two other rooms, for the sake of aesthetics. He told me how to care for the floor. He gave us a discount because we discovered him through Angie's List. He set up a date to do the work for us within 2-3 weeks of having given us an estimate. On the first day he was to work, his people arrived promptly. They moved the furniture out of the living room for us. We left them alone in the house and took the dogs with us for a trip to the in-laws. We anticipated that the job would take two days. It was completed in one day. The furniture was moved back for us. Mr. Melo even helped us put felt foot pads on our antique sofa and turn it upright. (His people had left it on its side until we could get something on the feet that would protect the surface of the newly-laid floor.) Mr. Melo came in UNDER estimate and under the amount of time he had approximated for us. I couldn't be more pleased with his work. I highly recommend him and his company.

We are beginning a kitchen renovation and needed the floors refinished and some boards replaced where there were cabinets formerly. It is a wide pine board floor and looked pretty bad. Herb and his crew came in and did a great job. There was barely any dust from the sanding and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. We will be using them again soon to install a floor in our finished basement.
