Initial contact was great but not calling nor showing up for an estimate isn't professional or courteous.
Description of Work: Setup an appointment for an estimate on 6/26/12 after 6pm. Never got a phone call and never showed up. Not happy about that and won't contact for any more estimates in the future.

I submitted the estimate request on Angie's List and very shortly thereafter (minutes) I got a phone call offering to set up a time for estimates. Very quick response. Only problem was that I had lost my voice and couldn't answer the phone, so had to communicate via email. We set up the time for the estimates. Josh came to provide the estimate for this job in addition to the estimates to remodel two bathrooms. He was prompt and very professional in doing the estimates, listening to everything we wanted and took very good notes. Estimates were provided for all 3 jobs. We had a little bit of email trouble initially but eventually got it worked out. After a few minor revisions on the proposals, we had an agreement to work. Well, all I can say is that all of the work was very professional. The gazebo is at least 25 years old, and has never looked as good as when they finished. Beautiful!. I've had this refurbed a couple of times in the last 10 years and never has it come out so good. All of the work was the highest quality. The gutters, although only 3 years old, have become stained (due to the coating on the gutters) and couldn't come completely clean, but they tried very hard to get them clean. it is a gutter issue, not a cleaning issue. The deck had a sofa, loveseat, a table with 6 chairs and a marble top cart which they carefully removed before the work started. They even came back the next week and put it back after the deck had cured following the restaining. The workers were very courteous and worked hard. Although most of the work was conducted while I was at work, I can tell by how much they accomplished each day that they worked hard. We will definitely use CSP again in the future. This work was worth every penny. The estimates they provided for the two bathroom remodels are acceptable and we are planning to do that work when the time is right. We look forward to spending the summer outside on our "new" deck enjoying the excellent work that CSP did to clean and refresh our home. We highly recommend CSP for the exterior work that we had performed. I hope to write a similar review for them when they finish the bathrooms!

Coastal CSP is a partnership. Sometimes when evaluating a project a second visit is required by the other partner to make 100% sure that we are able to perform said project in the manner desired by the homeowner. The customer has 2 columns in the front of her home that needed cosmetic repairs and she was very much open to options as far as the best way to go about making the repairs. I (Christopher Parkhurst) performed the initial consultation with the customer and upon my review of the columns communicated to her that I would have to have my partner come out and also take a look at the columns to explore more options then I was able to provide. The elapsed amount of time was due to my partner having a hard time actually getting the customer on the phone for a second walk through. Upon our second visit to the home, the customer expressed the desire to take some work off of the original specifications I listed from our first visit. Josh (my partner) asked her to email us the changes at her earliest convenience in order for us to complete her estimate/contract. We still have yet to receive that email and without it, we are/were not able to complete and send her estimate. Thank you very much for taking the time to read.

Chris did excellent work! We look forward to working with him in the future!
Description of Work: Deck staining and cleaning. Roof cleaning. Power washed house.
I am expecting a baby in August and just had some around the house projects that my husband and I didn't have time (or skill!) to tackle ourselves. I contacted Chris with CSP by phone and asked for an estimate and he was able to come out the next day and do a free walk-through with my husband and discuss our potential projects. He provided a written estimate via email and as soon as we worked out the final contract (ie. what needed to be done now vs. what could wait) and first payment he scheduled to come out and do the work within a week. He was always very easy to talk to, and you could tell he was really listening and wanted to be certain he was on the same page as you. Chris was called out of town unexpectedly on Thursday evening, so he had his partner, Josh, and a few other guys come out to do the work for him. He notified me of the change of plans so I wasn't surprised when different guys arrived Friday am. The guys worked hard, were very polite, and always asked me if they needed anything (ie. to put the cats up when they were ready to install doors) so I didn't feel like I needed to hover or be in the same room with them. They didn't finish Friday so came back for 1/2 day Saturday to finish the job. When we did the walk-through to evaluate the work, initially everything looked fine and the few issues we saw (scuffs on the white front door, an unpainted rod in the nursery closet) were explained away by Chris as something that would come off with soap and water, or something that was intentionally not done because you don't paint a rod and then put hangers on it, it will just scrape the paint off. Ok, so we figured he was the boss and since he was doing the walk though with us everything must be fine. It was 8pm and we were both tired and ready to call it a day, so we parted and said everything was fine. A day or two later my husband and I conducted a much more thorough walk through, and found a few issues that we were not happy with, such as the scuff on the door was actually a scratch into the steel of the door itself and would not come off with cleaning, there was unfinished caulking/painting on one side of the newly installed doors, and the nursery shelves were very very close to being installed at the correct heights I had specified, but they were an inch or two off in a few places an that meant my bins and organizers would not fit correctly! When Chris called to request for me to write a review for him, I sheepishly told him that our initial walk through hadn't been thorough enough and I didn't want to write a review until he had the chance to fix a few things. He scheduled to come over within 2 days and fix the problems. That Friday he came over and fixed everything I previously mentioned, as well as did some weatherstripping on the smaller interior door. He was friendly and very conscientious about making sure I approved of everything that was done before it was actually finished. Josh came later and re-did the shelving in the closet and also was extremely courteous and checked and double checked all measurements and asked questions when needed, which means the closet is perfect now, and we have two beautiful new doors and a GORGEOUS deck to show for the little bit of hassle it cost. Bottom line, though it took a little longer than I thought, Chris and his guys ultimately delivered quality work and weren't afraid to step up and correct issues, which to me is almost more important than if it had been 100% in the first place. The way he listened to and immediately addressed my concerns (at no charge, of course) was wonderful and the mark of a true professional. Now I know we have an open line of communication about both of our expectations, and when the deck needs a second coat of stain, or something else in our 40 year old house needs work, I know the guys to call !
Description of Work: Installed 3 new shelves into the closet of the nursery, removed and replaced front door and frame, removed and replaced interior 30 in interior door and frame, cleaned the deck with a cleaning solution and high pressure water rinse, and stained all portions of the deck with one coat of stain/sealant

I had the work done roughly 6 months ago. Had I written my review then, it would have been glowing. Over time, I realize the job wasn't done right and now I have to call a third person to try and get things done right. Don't get me wrong, Chris and Josh and their team are hard working guys and were so willing to work on my schedule which I appreciated so much. They are very nice and eager to please but the quality lacks. The interior and exterior garage doors work beautifully and I have no complaints about that work. 6 months later, my front door still doesn't open right. They replaced the door in the winter time when it was colder. I had to call them out in spring as it got warmer because as the door expanded it became harder and harder to close. That door has expanded again and it again harder to close. After two email attempts to let Chris know, I haven't heard anything back. I don't know the extreme of door expansion that is why I call pros. They are supposed to know this and I shouldn't have to have work on it yet again. After 6 months it has become apparent that the guy that did the bathroom work was over his head. The grout they used is porous and holds dirt more than smooth grout. I've also noticed, around the bottom, the grout wasn't removed, it was caulked over. Now that caulk is coming apart and you can see the old stuff underneath. The seal around the frame of the shower was redone but now it is falling apart. The seal was re-done with part grout and part silicon. Where the bottom was supposed to be painted, well you can tell it was quickly done and now looks horrible. It is really apparent on the outside of the shower where you can see brush strokes and unequal distribution of the material. I probably would have never even submitted a report but after two attempts to get a hold of Chris to fix my door, yet again, I decided it was time. I hate doing it because I truly loved their willingness to work with me and get the job done. I wanted to believe there were great craftsmen out there and wanted to give work to an up and coming company.
Description of Work: I had an exterior side garage door and interior garage entry door re-installed after the person who did it previously did such a lousy job. I had my main exterior door frame and door repaired/replaced. I also had my shower re-grouted, the silicon seal around the frame replaced and the pan "re-painted".

I hate to see a report like this posted by a member who we have had a long on-going relationship with. I am under the assumption that this member failed to email CoastalCSP@gmail.com (new partnership formed about 3-4 months ago) and was emailing the old company email. Had he called at least one time to touch base with us, we would have been as attentive to his needs as we have been from day one. As that is always our goal. It was never mentioned in our consultation, estimate, contract, while he watched the work being done, or upon completion that any grout or caulk would be removed. His problem was purely cosmetic and was treated as so. We were asked to go over what was there with some new white grout and caulk, and that is exactly what we did. He was very much aware of the product being used and approved the use of all materials (as do all of our clients/members). We have went back to his front door a few times with no questions asked. As he mentioned in his report, his front door was poorly installed prior to our working with the door system. We ALWAYS provide warranties on our work. So when the existing door system continued to give him problems with the new door we installed, we never thought twice to make any adjustments needed to the existing door system. Had he taken our advice and replaced the entire front door system, he would never have had a problem. Again, we really take great pride in our presence here on Angieslist.com and our reports. We will do any and everything needed to make sure that members are more then happy and feel they made the best possible choice when choosing us for their projects. I really wish you would have made some sort of an attempt to call and communicate your problems rather then posting a report with such a negative grade when we have completed everything asked of you on-time and without question.

We were very impressed that Chris responded to to our need for an estimate in such a timely fashion. He came to our house that very day, as promised, and on time. His demeanor was professional, he asked if we had questions and promised a written estimate by email within the next day. The estimate came promptly by email in contract form with all materials and labor costs itemized with a plan of the work to be accomplished and the time it would take to finish the job. Chris also followed-up his email a day or so later, with a phone to call to see if we had any questions. We decided on a day to start and Chris arrived with his co-worker promptly at 9am, as promised. These guys were quiet, efficient, always polite, concientious and professional. After completion of their work, they cleaned up such that you'd never know they'd been here. Our estimate was about what we expected it to be, maybe just a smidge higher - but we are so pleased with the quality of the work, and our overall experience with this company that we have no problem speaking with Chris about new projects.
Description of Work: Over the course of 2 days (with one day added due to a rain-delay) Chris and his co-worker pressure washed the exterior of the entire house and surrounding walkways. Inspected ceiling of our screened porch and the roof above it for moisture concerns and found none. Removed compromised drywall seam and all evidence of a failed previous repair job. Replaced drywall with a patch, plus removed other suspicious seams where drywall joint had failed. Re-taped all joints, re-mudded, sanded and primed the ceiling for new paint - such that the original problem areas were completely repaired and now totally invisible. Painted ceiling of screened porch and our front porch with a top-quality outdoor paint better suited for our needs. Job well done.
It was a great experience and the work was stellar. The estimate was very detailed and Chris and Josh take great pride in their work and do a terrific job. I will hire them again to install my floors in a few months. These guys can do it all. They show up on time and call if they can't work due to rain. THey leave the place as they find it and take great care as they work. My exterior now looks better than than it did the day I bought the house. It also looks better than the last time I had it painted. My front stoop looks beautiful again instead of run down and falling apart. I am very happy with the quality of their work. I wish I had found these guys ten years ago when I moved here.
Description of Work: Pressure wash all exterior surfaces of the home as well as the walkways. Removal and replacement of all rotted plywood and 1x4 trim work on the front colums of my house. Removal and replacement of all weather stripping around garage door and. Remove and replacement of rotted wood on the garage door systmes. Remaval and replacement of rotted dog ear molding on the house. removal and replacement of 12 ft of shingle molding on the left gable of the home. Removal and replacement of gable vent on left side of home. Paint of all exterior wooden surfaces around the home. Filling in of all mortar joints on the front stoop that is currently deterioring and in need of repair. ALl peeling areas scraped and sanded, wood cracks and joints sealed. All paint used was SHerwin WIlliams Duration paint.
This was a fantastic experience. Coastal CSP has done other work for us and we were once again thrilled with the results. They are extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. It seems there is nothing these guys can't do. Their work is top notch. They really listen to what the customer wants. We hit a couple of small snags along the way but Josh is great at suggesting solutions. He is a real craftsman for sure. We could not be happier with our gorgeous new bath. We have several more projects planned for this excellent company.
Description of Work: Josh and his crew gutted our childrens' hall bath. They removed a fiberglass tub and shower surround, toilet, vanity, etc. They installed a new tub, drywalled and installed a ceramic tile surround. They put in a new ceramic tile floor, new vanity, new toilet, bath fan, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and door knobs. Josh designed and installed beautiful new custom baseboard trim. The room was painted and decorative accents installed such as shelving, towel hooks, etc.

Saw this company rated so highly on Angie's List so I called to get an estimate. Got Christopher parker on the phone but he told me he would need to call me back in about 15 minutes. Never called back. Several days later I emailed him and asked him what happened. he apologized and said they would come out and do the estimate. Said he could come out the next week and asked what days were good. Sent him an email giving him 3 possible days. Never heard from him all week. Friday came and I emailed him asking what happened. No response. Obviously somehow not the company rated on Angie's List- either it was just friends sending in the reviews or something- definitely not a company I would want to do business with.
Description of Work: We were looking for someone to do some remodeling- never even got an estimate.
I am employed as a quality manager in a scientific organization. It is my job to ensure that my organization delivers the highest quality product to its customers. Quality is important to me and it is something that it is my job to constantly evaluate and deliver to my customers. In delivering a quality product, you must ensure that you understand what your customer wants and needs. This requires effective communication and a strong commitment to professionalism. Mr. Parkhurst came to my home shortly after I called him and asked for an estimate. We spent about an hour walking around my home where I described what I thought I needed and he listened and helped me understand what would be the most cost effective long term solutions to my home repair and maintenance issues. I recieved (within a very short timeframe) a comprehensive, detailed and very professional appearing estimate/contract. A few of the items in the contract were "open ended" in that we agreed the final price would be negotiated prior to the work being completed but after the extent of the issue could be fully assessed (e.g. the roof vent). In my conversations with Christopher, it became apparent to me that he was very dedicated to delivering a high quality product and was committed that this was a primary aspect of his business model to distinguish his company from his competition. Coastal CSP began the work upon our agreed upon date and I was very comfortable providing them full access to my home in my abscence. They were very mindful of my indoor only pets and ensured that doors and windows were left so that there would be no escapes. Before starting on any item of work that we had previously agreed we needed to negotiate in the contract, Mr. Parkhurst always contacted me and discussed the scope of work. While I dont just give my money away, I felt I had to encourage Christopher to make sure that he was being adequately compensated in these negotiations. There were several areas of work in which he charged me only for materials with no additional labor costs when work expanded beyond the orginal contract. My neighbors continually praised the professional manner and disposition of Mr. Parkhurst and his team while working on my home and around their homes. They commented on how hard they worked and how the work performed helped to make the house look brand new. In short, I am very satisfied with the work that was performed. While it was not "cheap", Mr. Parkhurst delivered a high quality product at a very reasonable price. He has excellent communication skills and works hard to understand what you think you need and carefully helps to educate you to what will help you maintain or improve the value and quality of your home. He was always accessible by phone and we frequently communicated by email to our mutual advantadge. I highly reccomend Costal CSP and plan to ask Mr. Parkhurst back to my home again whenever I need help with maintanence and improvement.
Description of Work: Mr. Parkhust and his team pressure washed the exerior of our home (at no cost with angie coupon). They then thoroughly (with high quality materials) caulked and and painted all the exterior windows, trim, shutters, and metal railing of our all brick home. Prior to painting, they identified and repaired/replaced wood trim that had suffered damage from rot. Mr. Parkhurst and team repaired some significant rot to the bay window in the front our our home, in doing this he identified some cost saving high quality alternatives that will provide a long term solution to this portion of our home. Prior to staining our large deck (3 coats), they repaired/replaced warped and damaged railing and trim around our recessed hot tub. Mr. Parkhust and team painted all of our exterior door systems, including the garage door. They caulked and painted all of the interior sides of the windows. A small 10 x 10 portion of my roof had developed a bit of "mossiness" that was removed with the "soft touch" process. Damage from water intrusion from the last hurricane was also repaired, including identifying a point of water entry around a vent in our roof-which was prevented from reoccurence via the replacement of the old system with a much more appropriate "booted" system. Interior damage to walls and ceilings were repaired and painted.
Chris and Josh, and their team worked for three days to complete the job. It went very smoothly, without any problems. The results are outstanding
Description of Work: Disassemble an interior playhouse, and reconctruct it outside, adding a roof, and weatherprooofing it with paint and additional wood. Drywall repair and finish on two ceilings, and the walls of two rooms Paint two rooms and three ceilings Consruct and finish a room divider wall, and add decorative crown moulding to enhance the room separation. Place and finish crown moulding in two large rooms.

Great to work with. We originally had a misunderstanding about the quote reusing the old railings but they worked with me and built me all new railings exactly like I wanted. Great guys.
Description of Work: Removed the majority of an old deck (with the exception of the main footings per my request) and rebuilt it.
Chris and his team were extremely professional throughout the entire process. They were prompt, courteous, and friendly at all times. They worked in a clean and organized manner, and were very responsive to our needs during the project. Chris communicated consistently and clearly, and ensured we knew what was happening every step of the way. He patiently answered all of our questions, and quickly addressed any and all concerns. We changed our minds about the color of the stain twice during the project, and Chris took care of it, no questions asked. His patience and understanding turned a potentially difficult situation into a pleasant and satisfying experience. It is almost impossible to find a contractor who displays such a high level of outstanding workmanship, professionalism, and courtesy, but we certainly found one in Coastal CSP.
Description of Work: Coastal CSP completely renovated my wraparound porch, deck, shed, and detached garage, including repair and powerwashing of existing wood, replacement of damaged areas, deck staining to include a major color change, installation of framed lattice skirting around the entire porch, and painting of all siding and trim on both the house and garage. They also replaced an odd sized door that provides outside access to wood storage for the fireplace.
Great! A few things needed correcting but they were done immediately. C.S.P. Contracting provides great work in a timely manner. They actually do what they say they are going to do. Definitely would hire again. Some work was done on a house in Lancaster County, a couple of hours away from home base. Job included driving time was priced fairly and completed in one day.
Description of Work: Work performed included wall repair, new wallboard in basement in two different houses along with all the finish work. Built and installed unusual size door. Work took about a week. Great job, finish work was excellent. Performed job on time and for the price originally quoted. We have spent about $7000.00 dollars and are very satisfied with the work performed. Would definitely hire again and have provided references for Chris and his company to family and friends to get work done.

CSP Contracting is a great company. I called and spoke with Chris and told him the scope of work to be completed. Chris came out to my home the next day to review the damage and gave me a very fair estimate. Work was to begin on Saturday Feb 3rd at 8am. Chris and Josh showed up on time to begin the work. The work was completed very quickly and in a professional manner. After completion of work, Josh and Chris cleaned up their work area leaving no type of debris behind. I can honestly say that I would recommend CSP Contracting to anyone in need of home repair. Its quite evident they are very knowledgable and have years of experience. I will surely use CSP Contracting my future home repair needs.
Description of Work: Drywall was completely repainted where it was damaged from an outside water leak. Old window seal was removed because of water damage, a new window seal was custom cut to fit my window, install and painted. Repainted baseboards Outside windows were chaulked to prevent future water damage
Chris, Josh, and the whole CSP team were absolutely great. Chris returned my phone call very quickly and came out the next day to give me an estimate. He was right on time which I appreciated very much.Chris is very personable and easy to communicate with. I received the estimate the next morning (a Thursday). The estimate was very detailed with each room priced separately. We scheduled the work to begin on the following Monday and once again they showed up right on time (I love punctuality!) and wasted no time getting to work. The crew worked nonstop all week to complete a pretty big job. They were very respectful of me and my home and even put up with my German Shepherd wanting to "help" occasionally. You couldn't ask for a nicer group of guys. Above all, they are great at what they do. I am a pretty picky person and I was thrilled with the results of all the work. They are very detail oriented. The paint work was absolutely perfect and I can't believe the transformation. I asked Chris to install a small handrail on the steps going down into our media room. I expected a plain old handrail but Chris doesn't do anything halfway. He made a beautiful stained oak handrail that matches the others in my home perfectly. The flooring job ended up being much more difficult than any of us expected but Chris and Josh hung in there and got it done. It turned out better than I even imagined- absolutely beautiful. The crew did a great job of cleaning up each day and I think my house was cleaner at the end of the job than when they arrived! Chris and Josh were very patient with all my questions and explained each step of the process. They are a punctual, reliable, honest, reasonable, professional, and just plain nice couple of craftsmen. We have several more projects planned for them in the future.

Chris Parkhurst was great to work with and very responsive to all of my questions and suggestions. From the time I contacted him until the job was completed he kept me informed and the project on schedule. If he was going to be even a few minutes late he called. Chris was never hesitant in explaining what the crew was doing and I felt free to watch the work progress. I was very pleased with the responsiveness and quality of work by C.S.P. Contracting and would hire them for any future work.
Description of Work: C.S.P. Contracting removed all of the gutters from my two story home and cleared them from my property. The wood facia boards for the entire house were removed along with all shingle molding and replaced with PVC. The bottom of the wood molding around both garage door openings had rotted away so C.S.P. removed all of the wood trim and replaced it with PVC. Then the new areas were calked and painted along with the front porch. The entire house and driveway was pressure washed with great attention to detail. At the completion of the job the work area was left very clean.

The service performed from the beginning to the end was very professional. The contractor first provided a detailed estimate by e-mail of the cost of the job. The estimate was provided very promptly...within two days of surveying what needed to be done. They estimated that the job would take two days which turned out to be correct. The wood workmanship and paint job was very good. Quality and attention to detail was good. I would definitely use them again. Chris and his team were very courteous and focused on customer satisfaction. Thank you Angie's List for another great company!!!
Description of Work: The job involved replacing the stair railings on the front porch and replacing thewood trim around the house. The side door was also replaced. Everything was repainted
Chris was very friendly and professional and always called to keep us updated on any changes or decisions that had to be made. We were really impressed with how inventive he was in helping us think of ways to solve any design issues we had; for example, we wanted a certain look for the wood trim on the loft wall and he invented a way to make it for us by using fairly inexpensive materials-- it looks really good and we know no one else has this look! He was good at estimating the amount of paint we would need and how many coats it would take, and the wallpaper removal job they did was excellent. We really got to know him and his team well over the time they worked for us, and never felt awkward about having them in the house with us. We plan to hire them to hang our Christmas lights this year as well!
Description of Work: Chris and his team painted almost the entire interior of our house (walls, trim, and and removal of old wallpaper, etc.) and all of the trim outside. He also installed painted wood shelves to our specifications in 2 closets and a pantry, and did some really nice custom stained wood trim on a loft wall and our staircase. He added a new banister up our stairs, new baseboards and shoe molding upstairs, and a new vinyl tile floor for our kitchen pantry. It looks like a completely different house than what we started with, and are so happy with the changes that were made!

CSP Contracting is a top-notch small company that has a great and growing future ahead of it! My experience with Chris Parkhurst, the owner of CSP, was very friendly and very professional. Chris was there for all phases of the work and was more than willing to make adjustments to any additional needed work or to work around my schedule. The high quality of his work, the fact that his cost was well below other estimates I received, his three year guarantee on all work and materials, and the fact that he was willing to do anything it took to get the work done right and to make me happy with him and his company makes it easy to write good things about CSP. I would heartily recommend him to anyone who needs his expert services. If you want to feel good about having work done right, make sure your money goes to an honest, trustworthy contractor, you can't go wrong with CSP.
Description of Work: C.S.P Contracting Newport News, VA Telephone: 757-232-3412 CSP pressure washed the entire exterior of my house with cleaning solution and removed all the dirt and mildew to the point that the house looked so good I almost felt the painting wasn't needed. Window frames were hand washed and gutters were cleaned out as an additional service at no charge. Painting included shutters, soffitts, facia, other wood trim, front and garage doors, front porch, to include concrete floor, and 3 level deck in the rear of the house. Minor wood replacement was performed on the garage frame, which matched perfectly. All raw wood from some decking replacement I did was painted two coats and additional painting of an elevated frame AC compressor stand was performed, even though it was not in the contract, at no additional cost. Everything was professionally and expertly done with the high quality painting products promised in the contract.
