If you are considering working with any company, especially when investing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, I recommend taking the following precautions: - Consult an attorney: Have a lawyer review the contract to ensure it is mutually protective and fair. - Get the warranty in writing: Ensure that any warranty or guarantee is documented in the contract before signing. - Verify insurance coverage: Get in writing proof of insurance for all contractors and subcontractors before signing any agreements. - Watch for red flags: If the company belittles or dismisses these precautions, take it as a warning sign. A reputable company will understand and respect your due diligence, especially since they drafted the contract. - Do thorough research: Conduct a comprehensive web search, including the company name, the owner's name, and terms like "lawsuit," "Better Business Bureau," etc. to identify any potential concerns. - Document: Before any work begins, take clear photos or videos of the area and all property involved. Continue documenting during the project to help prevent disputes about what transpired. - Trust your instincts: If concerns about workmanship, quality, etc. arise early in the project, address them immediately. It’s often better to cut your losses and move on rather than continue investing in a project that may not meet your expectations.

I was told I needed to give 350 dollars for service call but it would be refunded to me when the work started. They never told me how much it was to have the work done I was told" Don't worry we will take care of you." I kept asking how much is the cost I was told many times I will get you the information but never received it for days. Meanwhile my check was cashed. Finally after the check was cleared from the bank I receive the quote about 7 thousand dollars. Being elderly and having my husband just pass away I was beside myself. I could not afford this much money and did not have a clue it would cost that much I told them to please return the money I cant do the job. I was told "Your not getting the money back because you are not having the work done by us.'' That was cost of service call he said. I told them that's a lot of money can you send me half back I was told NO. I feel like I was scammed into giving this money to them. Not only did I give them the money It was very hard to get him to come to the house to talk with them about the work It was all around a bad experience for me and I really trusted them. Lesson learned but money I really can used taken. Not a good company

Terrible customer service. I had to call twice to get someone to call me back just to schedule a service estimate. They finally came and we discussed the job, they took measurements and pictures, and they said we'd have an estimate in a few days. Days go by and still waiting. In the meantime I had another company come out for another job estimate. Stone Edge called and let me know I'd have the estimate the next morning. Nothing. Two weeks go by and I called and e-mailed the Stone Edge rep and said we needed the estimate by the weekend so we could make a decision. All I got was an apology and they'd have it to me by the end of the weekend. Still nothing. Nothing but a waste of time.

Please see above. The only down side was that we had a very small addition to the work and they charged an additional $180. Out of $15,000, I think they should have done it gratis.
Description of Work: We had our pool completely rehab-ed. It look phenomenal. They were as on-time as weather allowed. The jobs were done very well and all the workers were respectful. They all left the area with no trash or debris.

My pool looks worst now than it did for 15 years. In the summer of 2009 StoneEdge completed the work. They did Tile repair around the pool and completely re-did the Gunite. It looked fantastic. We trucked in the water. It looked like a brand new pool. The tile repair work was done and it looked great. Then toward the end of that summer(2009) the Gunite started turning brown and I called the owner. Mr. Fitzpatrick came out and said it must be the water and lets look at it again in 2010. I opened the pool in 2010 and it was terrible. Mr. Fitzpaatrick from StoneEdge came out and said it must be the service company that cleans the pool weekly. At the end of 2010 summer I told the owner I wanted the Gunite re-done. He said it was not his fault. He had the BEST Gunite crew in New England. He blamed it on the water we had and the weekly cleaning company. My cleaning company called him as well because they did not like being blamed for the faulty work. In fact my cleaning company recommended StoneEdge as they had done a nice job for other customers. I think Steve Pappas prepared the estimate. In 2011, I called again and StoneEdge came out. They said it was nothing they did and would not repair it. But they would charge me full price to put in another surface that would look better. They said it was not their fault and by 2012 I gave up. It is now 2013 and I will have to get some estimates for repair work or re-do the pool again. I am glad for Angies List to write this review so other people will be warned. I WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN! I wasted $21,000.00.
Description of Work: My pool was 15 years old. The Gunite was turning brown and it was just getting old. . I also needed tile repair work. Stone Edge Re-did Gunite and and completed the tile repair. The cost was approximately $21,000.00 summer of 2009.

It went well. They did a nice job -- left no mess in the yard afterwards (no damage to the existing concrete, etc.). Do get a fixed-price agreed with them upfront. They did charge us for any additional, really small items. If you are on well water, do as they advise and have fresh clean water brought in by truck. Do not heat the pool for 7-10 days after the pool is filled with water as it weakens the finish. Overall, they did a good job. We'll see in the spring of 2013 if all of the tile remained in place. We'd used the company 10 years ago for just a tile job, and the tiles under the diving board fell out every year. This time they did some repairs to the coping, so hopefully the tile stays in place. Very nice work crew -- polite, neat and ontime every day.
Description of Work: We had our 25-year-old gunite pool and spa re-tiled, had the stairs repaired, all plugs replaces, a new finish (pebble) installed and brand new time installed around the entire top of the pool and the spa.

Where to begin ... my brother and I are selling my father's house because he has moved to an assisted living facility. As a part of the purchase and sale agreement, we needed to repair a leak in the gunite pool in the back yard. I had tried to contact a number of other pool repair companies and couldn't get any of them to look at a 35 year old leaking pool -- I don't know why. At the start of August, --after my husband spent several Saturdays trying to figure out where the leak was and trying to fix it -- Stone Edge agreed to look at the pool. Their scheduler was polite and apologetic about need to reschedule the estimate appointment (4 times). I was a bit irritated about the delay because nobody is living in the house, which means that I have to make time to go there to meet anyone working there. Because I needed to get the work done and it had been difficult to get anyone out there for this, I didn't complain at that point. The crew was finally able to meet with me on August 19. They told me that the leak was somehow related to the skimmer and that it would cost a minimum of $1600 to repair. I agreed to proceed with the work (because I had little choice). The scheduler told me that the crew would return to complete the work on August 23 or 24 and that she would call me later that afternoon to confirm the date and time. I never heard from her. Trying to be patient, I waited until August 23 to call Stone Edge. I was told that the crew would meet me the next day. They arrived on time, and repaired the skimmer and replaced a valve in the floor of the pool at the deep end. They told me everything was all set and we filled the pool. As previously noted, nobody lives in the house. My brother went to the house on September 8 to clean it and to add chlorine. The pool was nearly empty with only a foot or so of water in the deep end of the pool. There seemed to be a problem with the new valve in the deep end. I called Stone Edge Design to let them know about the problem. I assumed that since they caused this problem they would be eager to get to the house to fix it. Not so much. I spent a week trying to get in touch with the scheduler and was put off repeatedly. When the crew finally arrived, they didn't have the equipment they needed which meant that I had to go back to the house again two days later (which meant I had to miss my daughter's soccer game). I think the stupid thing is finally fixed, but I am so frustrated by the process that there is no chance I would ever consider hiring these people for anything again. Customer service is NOT a priority for Stone Edge Design. I felt as though I was inconveniencing them!

Response from Stone Edge Design Inc
The pool repairs to the skimmer were Completed as requested. The Hydrostatic vavle located in the main drain also needed to be replaced. This valve opens and closes due to water pressure under the pool. This pool had a considerable water condition. We installed the Hydrostatic valve and dye tested for leaks. The customer refilled their pool as needed. Prior to or during the filling of the pool , the valve opened and remained open due to water pressure from below.Debris lodged in the valve from below the pool causing the valve to remain open as water was being added. This is a common problem with pools that have water conditions and can only be identified when it is apparent that the water level is going down. The customer was not living at the property and was unable to monitor the pool until the next morning. We recieved a call from Dawn and responded to the problem as quickly as possible. The hydro Valve was in fact open with debris,Gravel on the rubber gasket. Scheduling called our service crew Mid Morning and ask them to stop by the job to evaluate on the way from another customer. We in fact did not have a valve on that date to install as we had used them earlier in the day. We rescheduled as soon as possible. Stone Edge Design has been in buisness since 1990 and still has an A rating with the BBB. We try to respond to our customers needs as quickly as possible .
