Knight's Contracting & Remodeling

We initially hired Knight's Contracting to replace our deck and loved the results so we had Derek do several other projects around our house. He's a great guy and we appreciated all of the work he did for us. We will certainly hire Knight's Contracting for any other projects we have.

We have hired Knight's Contracting for several projects and have always been very satisfied with the quality of work, timeliness of projects completed, and professionalism of Derek and his crew. Derek has replaced a full both for us, replaced 6 custom windows and trim and fixed a lot of damage in several of our rooms. He always presents a quote with different options and has great ideas on how to accomplish what we're looking for. He communicates through the whole process and keeps a clean job site. I recommend him to everyone looking for a contractor.

Derek did a very good job. It took awhile for things to get done. He said that the doors and windows didn't come in on time. I don't know if this was true or not. One of the doors was not correct. He did fix this, but I wasn't happy with the replacement door. I thought that the window sash was broken from the get-go. Now, 2 months later, I cannot get it to work at all. In addition, I've noticed that it does not hang in the jam properly but hits the bottom when swinging shut. I have told Derek about this, but he is leaving it to me to deal with. Without a receipt, this is incredibly difficult if not impossible. He did find damage to the roof, which he told me about and my roofer came immediately to take care of it. He also found other places where there were rotting boards around windows or under eaves which were taken care of. However some of it was not and you can imagine how difficult it is for someone to come back for an hour job. I was having the house painted after he did his job, so timeliness was essential. The painters found more rotten boards and he and the painter discussed which one of them would take care of it. Quite honestly, I didn't care which. I just wanted it done. They told me that they had agreed that Derek would do this work. He never came back and basically told me to find someone else. I understand that contractors are busy and don't want little jobs. I had purposefully waited until I had a long list so that this would not be an issue. It was anyway. I am disappointed in his follow-through, or lack thereof. During his first job, I got a MassSave audit and was getting more insulation in my attic. I needed the rafters raised before this was done. Derek and I discussed the one-day job, and picked a week for it to be done. Somehow there was miscommunication about the details of the job so when I finally got the contract, 2 days before he was supposed to do it, it was incorrect. When I emailed him about this, he said he didn't have time to fix the estimate nor did he have time to do the work until after the insulation was scheduled to be put in. He also said that he wouldn't be upset if I found someone else to do the work. This left me scrambling as I'd waited 1 1/2 mos. for him. Now I had less than a week to get estimates and get it done. To me, this was not professional at all. If Id' known from the beginning, I would have had more time to find someone else. Instead, I scrambled.
