They came and tore out the old unit which was all contained in my attic. The old unit did not have an outside condenser. They replaced the attic unit and put a condenser outside. This required them drilling a new hole in the wall from the attic and putting in pipes and tubes to the outside condenser. I was told they would cover it with siding to make it blend in. That never happened. I still have a mess hanging on the side of my house. When I applied for the rebates, I was told one of the rebates was not available do to the failure of the installer to provide certain information. When I called Abell's to tell him that I was being denied because of an error in his reporting, he became very angry. I said that the rebates were a factor in my decision to go ahead with the purchase because of my financial situation. He sarcastically said, "Ya ya ya, I know, your poor husband was sick, blah blah blah. You shouldn't have bought it if you couldn't afford it". I was shocked. I told him if he didn't rectify the mistake, I would report him to the Better Business Bureau. This only intensified his anger. It was astonishing to say the least. Eventually, I did get the rebate but it was h*** getting it. He is very nice until you have a complaint and then his true colors came out. To make matters worse, it turns out, the unit is to small for the area it was suppose to cover. All those pages of fancy analysis that he provided were worthless. In very hot weather, the unit can't keep up and the area it covers won't cool down. In other words, the house is hot. I had three separate repair people tell me the unit is insufficient. The icing on the cake is that the Bryant A/C unit he installed has broken down every year since it was installed. It is a lemon. It has been serviced 5 times. This is the 4th season since the installation and it won't cool at all, no matter what the temperature is outside. I just called to get my 6th service in 4years. I don't mean annual check-up, I mean the unit broke 6 different times. I will now have to file for a replacement or obtain legal counsel to replace the lemon unit. I hired him because of my past experience with my annual service on my boiler. I should have known something was up because they were always high pressure to take out a service contract even though I have a home warranty service. I never expected to end up with a mess hanging on the side of my house, a unit that was to small to do the job it was suppose to, and a lemon. I certainly never expected to have him sarcastically taunt me about my husband's illness and my financial issues because of it. I would never recommend him. He didn't finish the job, he was horrible to deal with as soon as an issue arose and he obviously doesn't know how to calculate what size unit is needed. Can I blame him for the lemon? Possibly, who knows where he got and how long it sat there.
Description of Work: I had used Abell's for my annual service for three years prior to this horrible experience. I went with them because the annual service was thorough and I never had a problem until this a/c unit was purchased. He came to my home to give me a quote on replacing an a very old central a/c unit. After a long sales pitch telling me about a unit with all the bells and whistles and special filtering , he gave me a quote of $12,000. I said I couldn't afford it. I explained that my husband had been sick and finances were limited but the a/c was essential for his health. He tried to shame me into buying the more expensive unit which didn't work. So he gave me a quote with pages of analysis of what the type of Unit I needed to accommodate the area with a price which included two $500 rebates. One $500 rebate for installing a new "efficient" unit, one $500 for replacing the very old antiquated energy guzzling unit. I gave him a deposit and we scheduled the installation. I had to pay separately for an electrician which was not included in the quote.

Everythhing went great. We had no problems and they made suggestions that made sense and resulted in a very satisfactory job. When they installed the furnace the supervison came with the crew and explained the whole procedure. He came back during and at the end of the jobs and tweked the installations to his satisfaction. There was no dealing with idiots. ( I've had to do that before.) These people are smart pros. What more can I say? Extremely professional and at no greater expense than the local "joe's".
Description of Work: I have delt with these people for about 15 years. They hae installed my furnace, heater fror my workshop, and water heater. They are excellet. I had another local plumber, hired by my contractor to do some plumbing jobs and they (he) was so substandard. I called Abell's and the problem was solved! I recommend them with the highest possible praise: on time, professional, competent, courteous and overall great. They do regular plumbing as well as heating. Don't hesitate. This is completely unsolisited praise.

I have had a relationship with Abell's for many years. They first came to service my boiler when it stopped working on what was probably the coldest night of the year. The technician was extremely professional. He showed up late in the evening and worked on the boiler. Unfortunately he needed parts that were not available. He was back very early the next morning to double check the system and the required parts. He went off to get parts and we were up and running. I was impressed enough with the level of service that I signed up for a maintenance contract which compared favorably to the one offered by the gas company. It included an annual cleaning and inspection. When we decided that we wanted to installed AC in the house I used Abell's. This was a major undertaking. We were converting from a forced hot water baseboard system to a forced air system. We also opted to install a geothermal heat pump. So the task involved not only duct work, but a 600 foot well, and excavation. Skip worked to make the system as affordable as possible. He gave options through the entire process. We are extremely happy with our system. It is keeping us comfortable throughout the year.
Description of Work: The service call that I am rating was not typical. They came to service the heat pump in my sun room. Typically, it was blowing hot air when they came. Abell's was not the original installer. It is not a product that they would even carry. The sun room builder installed it. So it was the cheapest unit they could get.
