Overall I would say they did a tremendous job! The pricing I would say is about middle of the road but it is for a reason, they won't try to short sell you nor do they overprice, but I would say for the job they did it was a great price. They showed up on time, were very nice and made sure any questions we had were answered as best they could. They also took great care of our house and property during the entire procedure. I would DEFINITELY recommend US Home Improvement to anyone looking to do work on the outside of their house and or doing windows. In a few years we made add addition to the home and I will be calling John back to come and do some work for that no doubt.

I limited my search to 3 highly rated Angie's List providers. John Carroll was great in his low key sales approach. He can do that because he has a superior product, highly rated by Consumer Reports ,Alside Sheffield windows. What I really liked about his proposal was that it was all-inclusive of everything (pulling permits and repairing the wood rot of the basement frames). He also required the smallest deposit by far and the lead time to have the windows made was the shortest (3 weeks). From a risk perspective, this made me very happy. Due to some weather setbacks,they were able to start the job 4 weeks later. Putting in 35 windows and capping 28 of them is a huge project. His 6-man crew was able to complete the job in 3 days. It was clear that his men took pride in their work and did a meticulous job of installation and cleanup, which is important given the lead paint on the existing windows. I have a brick house contrasted with the pristine white of the capped windows makes the house look brand new. I'll never have to worry about painting the window frames ever again too. John was on-site almost the whole time when the work was being done. He is helpful in every regard associated with the window installation. He offered to install the new shades to the windows which I happily took him up on. I had storm windows in my cellar from the last time the storm windows were replaced 25 years ago. They don't accept such trash in my town. John was more than happy to cart that stuff away for me. I didn't need to lift a finger myself. The phone line to my house runs through the frame of one of my basement windows. It is not the standard and was understandably jostled loose during the replacement process and I lost phone service. The phone company came out and fixed the problem in minutes. John offered to pay for service call. He even called to follow up after the job was completed. That alone shows that John Carroll is a man of intregrity who stands behind every aspect of the job. Besides delivering a superior product and service, he has all the other bases covered too. In the unlikely event there is a problem with any of the windows, I'm confident John will make it right.

Working with this company from the first call until completion was fantastic! John (owner) answered my initial call, set up a appointment to come over, measure and give us an estimate - John got back to us immediately with a price and some dates when they could install (within a few weeks). John and his crew arrived on the arranged date and removed old and installed new windows in less than a day. I was not home when they did the work (my husband was) and I was shocked when I got home that evening - the windows look beautiful and the best part is that there was absolutely no evidence that anyone was even in my home, never mind working inside my home. They were the cleanest contractor I've ever worked with. I am very happy with the work and would not hesitate recommending this company to anyone looking for replacement windows.

John Carroll and his crew were great from start to finish. I called John on short notice, after having seen two other potential contractors, and he came the same day. His quote was about the same as Rite Window, but higher than a contractor offering Harvey Classic double-pane windows. I chose John's company because of the quality of the product he was offering and his long experience installing windows. I was particularly impressed by his proposed solution to an installation problem I anticipated. I was replacing the original windows on my classic Cape house. Many years ago I had vinyl siding installed, and at that time the windows were framed with very nice looking wide aluminum cladding. The old exterior mounted storm window/screens, in aluminum frames, were reapplied over that, meaning that there would be screw holes and caulking residue left when the new windows were installed. Another contractor was simply going to putty these over and clean off the residue. John proposed to cover the flat surfaces with new aluminum cladding. In spite of this extra material and work, John's estimate was a little lower. The final result is perfect; you can't tell that anything was done, even up close. The window installation itself was amazing. John arrived with his crew of about ten experienced men at 8:00 am, and they were gone by 2:00 pm! It was clear from the start that this was not a pick-up crew. I could tell these guys had worked together many times before. They knew exactly what they were doing and got to it without delay. The inside crew, dressed in white plastic coveralls and booties, covered all major surfaces with plastic sheeting and moved any heavy items out of the way, while the outside crew worked on the exterior framing. John was present throughout the job, supervising the work. The old windows were taken away when they left. Before they left, they removed all the stickers, cleaned every window inside and out, vacuumed the entire work area, and generally cleared out everything. I couldn't be more pleased with the job!

It took a while for my window to come in, because it had to be special ordered, but once it arrived, John arranged the installation right away, and the work was done flawlessly. I am so happy with my new window and would gladly use this company again. They were pleasant, professional, clean, and just a pleasure to deal with.

This was an Angie's Big Deal, but the exxtra caulking and frame repair on the basement windows was an add-on above what was covered in the Big Deal. At the estimate, the gentleman was dignified, respectful and communicated well, including writing legibly on the estimate form. At installation time the workmen men did a good job, were respectful in my home and cleaned up after themselves. They were willing to talk with me about my concerns and respond to them. A good job done with no funny business and no surprises. What a relief!

John and his crew members were prompt, professional, courteous, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. We called John the same week that we purchased the Angie's List Big Deal coupon. Despite probably getting many calls that week, John answered the phone and was able to come out for an estimate on Saturday to accommodate our schedule (only a few days after the call). John was friendly, helpful and patient with our questions and our decision making around how many windows we could afford to purchase. We had purchased a $1000.00 Angie's List Big Deal Coupon which was good for $2000.00 worth of windows. This deal also provided for free upgrade of double pane to triple pane windows. Despite getting such an amazing deal already, John was more than willing to throw in the siding reattachment for free and the gutter cleaning and repair for only $100.00 (much cheaper than other companies). The entire job we wanted done totaled $2700.00 normally so with the Big Deal Coupon, it came down to $1700.00 ($1000.00 we paid Angie's List at the time we purchased the coupon, and $700.00 more we paid to John at the end of the job). The contract was drawn up on the spot, which we appreciated, and we signed on that day. The windows arrived as promised within about 3-4 weeks and John called to set up a time to install, which occurred two days after the call. John and his crew arrived exactly on time and got right to work. They were understanding of our need to be considerate of our neighbor's cars and driveway as we live in close proximity and answered all questions we had. They were able to complete all work within four hours and cleaned up well. They provided a walk through of the work and pointed out where the wood would need to be repainted. They caulked thoroughly (much better than a previous window company we had used in the past) and the windows look fantastic. We received information about the tax benefit and no money (besides the Angie's List Big Deal we purchased in advance) was due until the end when we were satisfied with the work. We received a receipt in the mail once our credit card was charged and look forward to obtaining the tax credit next year and lower energy bills. We could not be happier and would recommend US Home Improvement to others looking to do any such work on their homes.

Even though I did not use them, John was very prompt to return messages. He showed up when scheduled, and was very flexible on when he would come out to do an estimate.

He never returned calls after the visit. He wasted my time.

John Carroll was pleasure to deal with, from the first email and phone contact for information, right up through the installation of the windows. I am a fairly thorough researcher (one of the reasons I joined Angie's List) and I initially scheduled two companies for estimates for my replacement window project. My wife and I own a first-floor condo in Somerville, and we have a total of 14 windows. The companies were US Home Improvement, and Rite Window (who hasn't heard their radios ads featuring how they post their prices on their website?) I thoroughly researched the window manufacturers used by both contractors, and was satisfied that both window products were of equal quality. Both companies have nearly identical warranties on both parts and labor (both are outstanding) and as I had seen from some of the other feedback on US Home Improvement in Angie's List, John absolutely stands by his workmanship. Once I was comfortable with that assessment, that only left the quality of the actiual installation, and my research definitely pointed to the fact that installation was at least as important as the window itself, in terms of satisfaction with your new windows, and their ability to provide comfort, energy efficiency and noise reduction (important for our first floor location at a bust stoplight!) John Carroll was the first appointment, and he came out on a Saturday to fit my schedule, 3 days after I first called him. He answered all of our questions (I had a list, of course) and I felt he was very direct and honest in his responses. He brought a smample of the window he installs. My wife and I both felt trust and confidence in him instinctively- you learn to listen to your gut, but with skepticism! John then worked up a quote. it was higher than the advertised price of the Rite Window product. I told him that we had an appointment the following Monday with Rite Window, and he asked what he could do to get our business that day. I told him that if he would match the advertised RW price, I would sign up right then, and he agreed. The overall price for our project came out to $6500, and John only required us to give him a deposit of $500, in order for him to order the windows, with the $6000 balance being payable upon our acceptance of the completed installation. No 1/3 down or credit check issues here!Our windows arrived exactly one month after we had John do the estimate, (he had told us 4-5 weeks) and John called us to set up the installation 3 days later. He and his crew of 5 arrived promptly at 8 AM on the scheduled day, and immediately began work. The price also included John pulling the required permits from the city of Somerville, and he had them ready when he arrived. John had asked that I move any small, fragile items away from the windows, and his crew would do the rest. They did exactly that, removing (and replacing upon finishing the installs) furniture, air conditioners (we have 3) and window treatments. We have custom blinds in all our windows, and they took care of everything. They even cut down boards for us to use to support the air conditioners in the new window sills. Once they removed the old vinyl windows, they checked to see if proper insulation had been done in the original weight pockets of the window frames, and they were prepared to insulate them if they had not been (they had been done). Once the windows were installed, they thoroughly caulked both the inside and outside cracks between the window edges and frames. Once they were done, they completely cleaned up after themselves, leaving no visible trace they had been there. We were told me would have to touch up with paint the wood frames that hold the windows inNow that we have the new windows, we cannot believe the difference they make! Being that it is the middle of summer, the most immediately apparent difference is how much street noise the new windows block out- amazing! The UV coating tint on the new windows took a moment to adjust to- just like the light UV tinting in newer cars. I really look forward to some serious oil savings this winter! Also, our old windows were almost all broken- they wouldn't stay up by themselves, were sagging in their frames, had busted locks, etc. The new windows are a joy to operate- they are solid, heavy, well-made products but open and close (and lock) with ease and smoothness.The work was exactly as advertised, there were no surprise fees or gotchas, and the whole job was completed in about 6 hours. I highly recommend John Carroll and US Home Improvement for replacement windows, and if our condo association ever needs to do any work that they do, such as siding, I would definitely have John bid on the job. My wife and I are very satisfied customers.

I called the main number and left a voicemail. Received a prompt reply. Set up a time within a few days for an estimate. John arrived on time, reviewed the situation, and gave me an estimate on the spot. I also received a 10% discount for finding him through Angie's List. He had to order the window so it was a few weeks before he could do the work, but when it came time, he and his crew (two other guys) arrived at 8am and were done before noon. They were professional and courteous and cleaned up after themselves.

They did an excellent job, were on time, and had a good price. The only weakness was not being able to advice on the quality of window we should go with. The company was not very helpful with the paperwork for the government kickback for insulation.

They were prompt, organized, and professional from start to finish. Estimate was accurate, reasonable (much more so than big names), offered options (Pella and Trimline), gave good advice, and were easy to reach when I had a couple more questions. I went with Trimline, based on their recommendation, and it was a great choice. They showed up on a date convenient for me and did the job thoroughly but expeditiously over the course of a day. The job was less than half the price of Renewal by Andersen, and I think the windows are better. We saved enough to do all the windows that really needed it. I would use them again and recommend them without reservation.

They showed up on time, worked quickly and finished in the time promised - two days. We are very pleased with the workmanship.

Again. Everything in the process went very smoothly from the initial estimate, to the measurements and ordering and finally to the installation. His crew worked quickly, efficiently and did a quality job. The windows look fantastic and I'll be saving tons on energy costs as soon as the weather turns in the fall.

John came out on a Sunday to survey the house and give us his estimate. We explained the situation that we were in a rush to get the windows completed and he was very understanding and said he would get them in as soon as he could (the following week). Windows came on the next available truck and John brought an extra man to complete the work for us. Windows are high quality vinyl replacement windows, low E, double paned and double hung. John and Jack are very quick and professional and know their work. Set up and clean up was very quick and tidy. Will call John again for more exterior work in the future.

It was great. We will certainly use them again.

Came in at about half the price of Anderson, and we are happy with what we have for the price. People were courteous, professional and straightforward to deal with.

Afer searching on Angie's List for a reliable window replacement company, I phoned John Carroll at U.S. Home Improvement. He returned my call promptly and accomodated my schedule to come to our condo to give us an estimate. He was on time, professional and courteous. One of my concerns was that we only had a short time left before the tax year ended and wanted to have these done quickly and before Christmas. John was great. He measured the windows and gave us an estimate on the spot. He assured me that the work could be done in our time frame and he would also be able to accomodate my work schedule. He did everything he said he would and managed to do it in some very cold and rainy weather. He and his partner were a pleasure to work with and they did a great job. They cleaned up and took away all the old window. We also had him put on a new back door and slider and they did a wonderful job. We are very happy with the quality of the products and their workmanship. We plan on having the rest of the windows replaced later this year and will definitely call John again.

I have not called them back yet to do the work, as another project came up that needed to be handled first. They sent someone out to give me the estimate and they were good. They were punctual and nice. They provided different prices for different options I had them price out. They came within 2 days of me calling. They came right away. I was very happy with the estimate.

They did a good job. The work went really well. Jon was very nice and did not try to upsell me. He was precise and explained everything clearly. He did lead tests for me without additional charges. They came when they were scheduled and they were very efficient. One of the windows was cracked when they installed it, I brought this to their attention and they replaced it right away. I would highly recommend them and will use them in the future. They do not do any touch up or exterior painting.

It went great. He did everything I asked him to do at a fair price.

John and his partner Jack were great guys - very professional. John came over on December 16th and gave me an estimate to replace six double-hung windows and a picture window. Estimate was what i was looking for so I went ahead with the job. John ordered the windows and a month later they installed them. They did a great job and were done in one day. Very clean and the final cost met the estimate spot on. Highly recommended.

We strongly recommend John Carroll and his team for replacing windows in your house. John is respectful, professional, and detail oriented. The final cost matched John?s original quote. The work was started on the scheduled date and was completed in two days. We were not charged extra for work and material when a huge window frame was found to be rotten and damaged by carpenter ants, and therefore replaced completely. John was managing the installation most of the time, especially all difficult windows. A big part of the project was replacement of a full-wall living room window which needed to be demolished first. The team did an excellent job protecting furniture in the room and the rest of the house from dust and debris. After installation, we found that one of the windows had a small defect. US Home Improvement ordered a new window and replaced the defective window within a week. We were very pleased with this prompt response. The new windows were installed in August 2010. Since then our house feels warmer and quieter. We give grade ?A? for quality of windows and quality of installation with no reservations.

The quote was honest from the start and very reasonable (no bait and switch like a couple of other companies we spoke to). John and Jack were extremely easy to talk to and very responsive. They had complete answers for every question. The weather made scheduling the final installation a bit tricky, but they were very accommodating and got all of our windows installed in a day and a half despite piles of snow on the ground. The entire crew was superb - punctual, professional and perfectionist. They were so organized and clean that you could barely tell they had been in the house after they were done, and the impact of their excellent work was felt immediately (we had to turn the heat down it was so warm in the house!).
