I recently had the opportunity to use Karma Environmental's soil management services, and I must say that I was very impressed with the results. They arrived on time and went right to work, removing all of the degraded soil that had accumulated over the years with great efficiency. They even took the time to clean up after themselves, leaving the area spotless. The staff was very friendly and professional throughout the entire process. I pulled up my carpet and found the dreaded 9" tiles underneath, we were convinced they were asbestos and contacted Karma. Kristen answered my call and promptly set up an appointment for Jared to come over that afternoon, he showed up right on time and went over everything that would have to be done to remove and certify that the room was clear. He took a sample for testing to prove that it was indeed asbestos and two days later I got a call and email certifying that it was NOT asbestos! Best $50 I ever paid, highly recommend Karma.

I left three messages over a couple of weeks and never received a response. If it isn't something that they handle, I asked them to at least call to let me know so that I could look elsewhere.

I needed the heating unit removed because it was a very old unit which walls were covered with asbestos. When Karma came to do the estimate I was offered remove all the asbestos insulating the pipes in the basement for the same price because it would cost no additional expense. I requested they get in contact with the heating/pluming company that would be installing the heating unit the day after the old unit was removed. I needed them to coordinate the work so we would only be without heat one night. They failed to coordinate with the heating/pluming company. The morning they were to perform work, they were unprepared to remove the heating unit and wanted to charge me the same 1700 to just remove the asbestos insulating the pipes. She refused to acknowledge the estimate completed and signed by her brother. She refused to honor estimate that bared her brother's signature. She gave me several excuses, including that the heating unit was still on. Later on the heating/pluming company asked her why she did not make arrangements for someone from the heating/pluming company to come over and shut off the gas. I also overheard her talking to her two employees to find a way to turn off the gas, even though they don't have a plumber's license. I overheard the two employees speaking Spanish that they didn't know how to turn off the gas. Once I heard that I was very worried. Because I expressed my concern, she used it as the final excuse to not honor the contract Karma signed. Because of her unprofessional behavior, I had to find another company to do the asbestos abatement. As a result, I had to reschedule the installation of the heating unit, and also I have had to reschedule the date for the insulation work. This is a very shady, unprofessional company, why is this company listed on Angie's List? The company that did the asbestos removal also asked me to get an independent company to do the air quality inspection because the state requires an independent company to complete the air quality inspections, due to possible conflict of interested. The way Karma did the estimate, they were going to do their own air quality inspection! Something is not right with Karma. I also had to call the city to get an emergency permit. The city told me they have given several emergency permits to people dealing with Karma. This company is doing serious unethical work and makes Angie's List look very bad. I am not sure I will turn to Angie's List in the future.

My first call to Karma was answered by the owner Erin. She quickly scheduled an appointment to see what needed to be done. Erin took a sample of the tile and mastic to be tested to verify that it contained asbestos and the results came back within a few days. I had to clean out the entire space and once I knew when it would be available I contacted Erin to schedule a date for the work to be done. The workers showed up promptly and began to get the space encapsulated. Once the work was completed, a testing company came in that same day to verify that the air quality was within state standards, which it was. Erin told me it might take a while to get the document from the disposal company they use and it did. It was a little over a month, but I did receive it. I gave a B rating to responsiveness because when the crew came in, and Erin was there, I specifically asked them not to open the basement window for venting. It was old and I was concerned about it's integrity. There was a bulkhead that could easily be used to vent. My request was not honored and I found that they vented out the window. After all was said and done, there was no damage to the window, however I was not pleased that I had been ignored. However, I would recommend Karma Environmental because overall I think they did a good job.

It was a free estimate. I owned a second home. I was looking to have work done there. Someone had put in an offer. This house was built like in 1960 something. It was a very old sun room that had asbestos tile. I had the asbestos tested at a lab and it was asbestos. The sun room was very old and the tile was extremely loose. It just popped right up. Sometimes you have to scrape that glue off. So there wouldn't have been any glue for them to scrape off. They charge more. Sometimes I've even seen online where people, they don't figure in the price of getting that glue off the floor. But this was not a glue situation. This was just tiles that were popping up. Also there was a little trim-like board down in the basement behind the heating system, which was a boiler. It was a very tight closet-like space because the basement was finished. But they said that they would include that in the price of $1,400. There was also a transit pipe that went from the heating system through the garage. I had no intention as a home owner to have that done, but the gentleman asked me to sort of have them look at it. They did look at it. They let me know that that pipe was in super excellent condition. It's attached to a heating system and went up across the garage and up into the chimney. I wasn't going to have that done. They said that they would encapsulate it which I figured might please this man for like $100, for the cost of the spray. That was just to encapsulate it. They actually took pictures of it, sent it to the lab where I had everything tested. The lab guy is not somebody who abates. I think he goes out and looks at things and says what they are. He said it was in excellent condition too. So I wasn't going to spend money to do anything. I didn't decide not to go with them. I was in the process of selling this house. This gentleman decided that he wanted to close as of a specific date. If he decided not to buy the house for whatever reason, if we couldn't come to an agreement I would have had the work done because I did all the research and knew that this would be an issue in selling the house. But the man decided, "Give me some money towards having the stuff done. Give me all the paperwork on them and all your research and I'll buy the house." He said he would use whoever I would select to come look at stuff because he didn't know whom to call. Karma is excellent. Since it's a spin-off company from a more major asbestos removal company that her father owns she is going out on her own doing regular homes. So he came with her because she was just beginning. Although she did most of the work, he was just there I think making sure with her in just getting started. He could add anything he would, but she was quite competent. They were very responsive.

Erin was very professional, came on site to give me an estimate, offered to test the tiles and glue for the presence of asbestos and provided me with a reasonable quote. Communication was easy, she was always very responsive. She and the crew showed up on time on the day the work was scheduled, worked with our floor person who needed to run a cable through the containment area, and did a great job. no more tiles, glue or pipe insulation around. They left the job site very clean.

They were excellent and great about helping me out as a home owner. They were a lot of things that I wanted that they were able save.

The owner Erin came out and gave me a free estimate for the work and then was able to schedule it within the next week. I would recommend Karma to anyone looking for asbestos removal in their home.
