Description of Work: Contacted company to estimate repairs for fireplace in two family house. Employee arrived approx. 5 minutes early, inspected fireplace, talked to tenant, and left before I arrived at appointed hour. Although their ad in Angie's says free estimates, he asked for check from tenant for $75. Totally inappropriate to take money from tenant. I called and sent email message about this; however, no response.

Description of Work: Louis Sheinite and his son came to our house to inspect our chimney at our request after another contractor told us our chimney was in bad condition and could start to fall down. This contrator wanted to do work on the chimney immediately. I joined Angie's list ithat afternoon and found Downeast Chimney. They had high marks and great reviews. After they inspected our chimney they told my husband, although the chimney was very old, it was in good shape and didn't need any immediate work done to our great relief. They were so nice, honest and professional . They also refused to take any money as they did not do any work.

 + -1 moreDowneast Chimney Sweep was recommended by our plumber; while installing a new hot water heater, leaves were noted at the base of the chimney which could potentially interfere with the venting of the heating/hot water system. I called Louis and he was prompt in his reply and in his scheduling a visit to our house. He and his son cleaned our fireplace and dryer exhaust vent, as well as the chimney flue, which he needed to access via crawl space beneath our house and by breaking through cement to fully inspect it. Louis gave us his recommendations to fully address and fix the problem, and so we are going to have him back to complete the job for us. He is a soft-spoken, knowledgable professional.
Description of Work: Downeast cleaned our fireplace and dryer exhaust vent, and checked out a problem with leaves at the base of the flue.

 + 1 moreLouis was wonderful. He showed up, was professional and unrushed. He took his time to assess what needed to be done.... and ultimately he decided that the repairs weren't necessary. He said that my current setup was fine and did not require the repairs that I was considering. He said that I would have no trouble finding a chimney mason willing to do the repair, but that it would be an unnecessary expense. he didn't charge anything for the estimate. I would definitely hire him for cleaning!

 + 0 moreThey arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Both Louis and his son were very friendly and articulate. I had hired them to sweep my chimney, but after inspecting it they told me it didn't need to be cleaned. I was very impressed with their honesty since I had been prepared to pay for chimney cleaning. I also asked them to install a chimney cap and they did this in about 20 minutes.

Description of Work: I called Lewis (owner) to clean my fireplaces and he arrived on time but told me that both of my fireplaces did not need to be cleaned at this time. He told me to call in 1-2 years to have them cleaned. While he was here is also checked the venting for my furnace. He didn't charge me anything.

 + -1 moreHe actually didn't charge us, he is going to come back after we've used the fireplace a couple of times and do some repair work and then he's going to charge us. He put a tarp down while he was cleaning the flue and vacuumed after he was done, you wouldn't have even known he had been here.
Description of Work: We had Downeast Chimney come out and they cleaned the flue, and checked the damper. They tested the damper because it hadn't been drawing properly.
