+ 0 moreI had what could have been an emergency situation. Called at noon, they were here by 1:30 (same day service). Lisa was the electrician and she had an apprentice. They were thorough, efficient, neat, and communicative. I had been told by a HVAC guy that a loose live wire was running down the wall and I also had been having a switch shutting off in the box. They checked out the wire and all associated plugs in the area and solved the problem. They changed out a fixture that was shorting and I had two two-pronged outlets converted to three pronged. Informative and pleasant. They even noticed one of my extension cords was shorting an ac unit. I was impressed and appreciative.

+ -1 moreJim and his crew did a great job in accommodating what we wanted done. They setup all work areas with protection from dust and debris and went to town. The job was scheduled for a full day and they had it finished in about 6 1/2 hours. Everything was great. Clean, as new with the new fixtures and old placements for switches. Jim then showed me the crack in on of the ceiling fans glass and I thought to myself it happens in shipping all the time, I could have busted it bring it from store, so I cannot blame him. Maybe an hour later the light blew in the ceiling fan. It was a special LED light that was part of fan. Long story short I ended up getting a different one. I called Jim and he came out and took down the defective one and put in the new one.... NO CHARGE! That was awesome. I would highly recommend Castle Electric to anyone in the area needing electric work. They will be changing wiring for wall mounted flat screens and doing the same with lighting downstairs when we can get that project rolling.
Description of Work: Jim and his crew changed the light switches from switches that power an outlet (plug in lamps) to switches that turn on two overhead lights and two ceiling fans (which we provided) in the upstairs portion of our split level. So we had four rooms changed over in all.

The owner performed an assessment of project and provided estimate but needed to come out in order to gain specifics. The owner came out and scoped the project and began work right as scheduled while his employees finished another job. Once the two employees arrived, he reviewed the job and left the completion in capable hands. They installed new wiring, put the ceiling fan together as it was in a box and then installed along with the controller. Prior to owner leaving he confirmed price as stated . Two days after project was completed the owner called to follow up regarding the service.
Description of Work: Installed new wiring for a ceiling fan on a 3 season porch, along with a new control switch.

+ -1 moreOverall they were prompt, friendly and did a fairly good job. They were very upfront with their pricing although way over the cost of the Angie's list deal that I purchased. The only issue I had was that they installed a dimmer switch for my ceiling fan/lighting fixture without first checking to see if the fan could work with one. The fan came with remote control unit which they didn't install at first and then asked my wife afterwards if she wanted them to install it they would but they didn't recommend it. It turned out that the dimmer switch couldn't be used with the fan and ended up blowing out the fuse for the lighting fixture. I ended up replacing the dimmer switch and installing the remote control unit myself after speaking with the manufacturer because the dimmer could've killed the motor on the fan as well. I think if I ever use them again I'd do my research upfront and make sure to have very clear directions for them.

Any concerns regarding placement of fixtures, existing wires etc were immediately addressed and discussed. Castle Electric has been professional and personable from the first phone call and I will continue to use them for all of my future electrical needs. Thanks to Angie's list they are busy busy busy so make sure to book them well in advance!

Description of Work: Wired a plug, replaced 2 plugs, re-wired a ceiling light, which involved getting into the attic, removing boards for access to the wiring, etc. They came back to fix a circuit that wasn't working following the original work and back once again because a different light blew a light bulb that they had replaced 24 hours prior.

They told me what they could do in that two hours and went significantly over, costing me a lot of money that I had not planned on spending.

+ -1 moreThis was a "Big Deal" arrangement. 2 hours of work for $99. I needed several things fixed, but he only really fixed one. The other two requests - fix a door bell and fix some track lighting, he said he couldn't do because he didn't have the right pieces. Rather than offer to run to Home Depot (about 2 miles away), he provided a list of things I needed to get. He said once I had all of that, he'd be willing to come back and do the work, for roughly an additional $300. (Not including what I needed to buy.) He was a really personable guy, but because he was in and out quickly and I didn't get everything crossed off the list, I don't feel like I received the value I expected for this deal, which was disappointing.

Of course, being an old house, it turned out to be a much longer and more difficult job than expected, but he had the necessary tools in his truck and was able to replace the old light with a nice new one. It looks great! He also quickly fixed a light in the cellar. Altogether, he was at my house about an hour longer than he planned, so he just charged me for the extra hour. Changing out the dining room light was very messy because he had to put a hole in the ceiling for a new box, and he did a great job cleaning up. You would never know anyone was working there, and you can't tell the hole was even there. I highly recommend Jim and Castle Electric.
Description of Work: I hired Jim through Angie's Bid Deal. I received two hours of labor for $99. Jim Prescott replaced an old chandelier with a new light, fixed a light fixture in the cellar that wouldn't turn on, and gave me estimates for several projects.

+ 0 moreAfter reading Angie's List in search of a reasonably priced electrician, I opted for the $99 special of Castle Electric. I hesitated when I saw the Norwood address, but found that they frequently service Brookline. I called and received a callback from owner Jim within 3 hours, explained the troublesome items in my electrical system, problems that had been nagging at me for 10 years, and we set up an appointment at my convenience, between 8 and 9 AM, today, Jim and his son Jim arrived at 8:45 AM. My condo unit is of 1940's vintage. Much of the wiring and many of the fixtures are "old". But... "Old" does not phase them. They did their work in one hour, repairing and replacing as needed, and solved my two problems. They work extremely well, efficiently, pleasantly and professionally together. When the finished, they cleaned completely the bathroom and elsewhere where they worked. Jim and JIm are completely trustworthy, and Castle Electric is very reasonable in cost. I did not ask for an estimate prior, and am totally satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Corrected wiring and connections in ceiling light in bathroom. Installed new switch. Installed new ceiling light fixture. Supplied and installed a replacement twin breaker in circuit breaker panel.

+ -1 moreJim Prescott responded immediately to my call. I had phoned 2 other electricians who couldn't help us and a week had gone by with our large appliances plugged onto extension cords. He was very nice on the phone and very professional when he arrived. He got straight to work, was very efficient, very knowledgeable and very helpful. Castle Electric would definitely be the first Electrical Experts we would call should we need any electrical work done in future.
Description of Work: We had a problem with a circuit breaker in the electrical box in the garage. The breaker would tripped off for no apparent reason leaving our overflow fridge & freezers without power as well as a downstairs bathroom and wall sockets. When touched to reset it would make a sizzling noise and appeared somehow loose to the touch. Jim Prescott was busy on a job but promised to come to check out the box as soon as he could the same day, explaining he had 2 stops to make before he could get to us. He advised us to switch off the breaker which we had already done, but said he would definitely be with us the same day to make sure it was safe. He gave us a time and said he would update us about timing. He not only updated us well in advance of his expected arrival but later arrived very punctually, fixed the problem and gave us advice on other electrical questions. In order to get to the plate covering the box, which was recessed into the wall, he had to remove built-in shelving which had been placed over and around the circuit box by the previous owner of the house. He got straight to work, no complaints, tackled the job skillfully and with good humor considering what he had to do to get to the cover plate. We are very pleased.

+ -1 moreThe perfect experience One call to Jim and he knew exactly what was needed. He visited the house to create the estimate. We also added a plug for an electric dryer. He gave us a date and time for the estimate and showed up and explained everything to my Wife so she understood. He explained the least and most amount of worked that could be required. They would not know exactly how much is needed to be done until they started to take things apart. We received an estimate that called out all the work items and which was the possible extra according to the state they found. We set the date and time and he was there and got right down to work. In the end, the work was incredible; it was so clean you would not know they were there. He explained everything to my Wife so she understood and the final price was less than the estimate because it didn?t need the extras. When you look at the work that is exposed outside you can see the quality and care that was taken in the work. This is the type of person you want to find and stick with them for all your electrical work.
Description of Work: We live on the beach that causes corrosion of the outside electrical. We lost ½ of the power coming into the house – every other breaker was dead. Some things in the house had power and some didn’t. We called Nstar who diagnosed the problem and gave us a temporary fix. We needed to replace the outside meter box.
