+ -1 moreI left a message for the provider on a Friday, telling him I found his business on Angie's List and that I was actively seeking estimates on replacing my broken central air conditioning unit. The provider promptly returned my call, leaving me a voice mail before 9 a.m. on Monday. In the voice message, which was professional in tone, the provider notified me that an estimate would cost $180, which would be applied to his services if he was hired. I decided not to pursue an estimate, as I have received free estimates from area competitors. I also found it odd that the provider did not identify himself or his business on the voice message, so I had to identify the business from my notes of the companies I called the previous week.
Description of Work: I called to inquire about getting an estimate to replace a central air conditioning unit.

+ -1 moreI filled out his web form and explained the project. He got back to me the next day and we set up an appointment. I then received an email fro him stating to allow 3-4 hours for the job. I thought it was just going to be an estimate so I emailed back and asked for an estimate before he started. He said he could give me an estimate before he started the work but it was going to be a flat rate for the estimate that could be applied to the work. To me that meant he would show up, give me an estimate and start the work if I agreed. If not, I would have to pay the estimate fee, which wasn't small. I agreed. He was supposed to show up on a Thursday at 9:00am. He was about 20 minutes late and my wife had left the house. He called and I let him know she would be back soon and I apologized for her not being there. As I was talking through a way to make it work he said "I have places to be, have a good day" and hung up on me. He had me booked for 3-4 hours of work but 30 minutes into the appointment time he had "somewhere else to be?" I found that odd. He may do good work. He just wasn't very patient or professional.
Description of Work: I called him to have a spigot installed at my house. He was responsive via email and made an appointment quickly, only two days after I contacted him.

Description of Work: Added freon to heat pump. Explained might not work if there is a leak may need to replace the heat pump and the unit in attic for emergency heat. He, also, gave me some pointers on how to get unit to work better. Told me better to use the cheap filters instead of the 3 month ones that prevent air flow.

+ -1 moreOwen did the job himself, using outside helpers only for removal of the very heavy, old boiler and water heater he was replacing. The job took a full week, and throughout he work carefully and professionally, including correcting some initial connections he was unsatisfied with. He was glad to explain what he was doing and why, and asked for my input on placement and settings for the new equipment. The work-site was cleaned up very well at the conclusion of the job, and everything worked as expected (although the system is noisier than we anticipated). He is very knowledgeable on the new, technologically complicated equipment he installs.
Description of Work: Installed a new, high-efficiency gas boiler and indirect water heater, removing the older system.

Recently I tried to contact another contractor from Plymouth, MA for wallpaper and paint estimate and they never returned a message. I've had better results with a FREE local website!

The job was more complicated than it appeared initially, given our nearly 200YO house and some funky plumbing work done a few decades ago. He returned day after day to complete the job to our satisfaction, providing a great deal of guidance along the way. And without adding to the cost, took it upon himself to fix a few messes created by whomever took on some of the plumbing previously (most likely not a plumber). We'll be calling him again when we start on our extension!
Description of Work: Installed a washer/dryer hookup plus utility sink in our basement, fixed several pipes an earlier plumber (or general contractor) had left unsealed.

He replaced other parts like the drain assembly. He cleaned up when he was done. He was very pleasant and helpful and his work was well done. Would definitely recommend him and hire him again.

+ -1 moreWe have an older home circa 1890's , and with that comes a lot of challenges. While we were looking for a company to replace our furnace we found out that most heating companies just had one thing in mind, just to replace the furnace. Which in all reality thats what we were looking for. The thing that stood out the most about Owen and Paul was they wanted to help us with our future plans. It cost $80 for them to come in and give us a quote, which was well worth every penny. They worked with us to give us all our options more then what we could even imagine. After meeting with a few Heating companies This was the only one that was able to give us viable options for our future home improvements. Paul and Owen were very good at explaining all the work that would be done. The furnace and water tank they installed is so compact you would barley notice that we have one in our basement. Owen, Paul & Paul worked very well together. They had a plan each day to accomplish and worked until it was completed. It took about 3 days from start to finish. This included orchestrating the removal of the old furnace and inspections from the town and gas company. I can't say enough about them they did a great job we are so happy with our new furnace.
Description of Work: replace old oil furnace and electric water heater with a new gas furnace and hot water system.

Description of Work: Most of the time it has been for plumbing like installing plumbing fixtures, fixing leaks, repairing faucets, installing/plumbing for an icemaker etc. I have also consulted with Owen regarding possible remodeling projects that would have included moving plumbing.

+ -1 moreOwen, Paul, and sons, were extremely respectful, professional, and highly competent. This was a big job. We have a three zone heating/cooling system. Owen and Paul gave us several options that included various pricing. They also informed us that we would need to get insulation, as well as the ducts cleaned in order to achieve our goals. My husband and I felt like we truly were informed of the costs that we incurred. Owen and Paul told us he would begin work on 6/11/12. They said they would work 6/12/12; 6/13/12; be of 6/14 & 6/15; return 6/25/12 through 6/29/12. Owen and Paul kept their word, and along with their sons, did a fantastic job! They laid down mats and other materials so that they would not mark the hardwood floors and rugs. They were efficient and neat and removed all of the debris. If you need heating and cooling systems, these are your guys! They even offered to come back once we get the insulation installed, so that they can check to see if it is done right so that it protects the furnace in the attic. Once again, Owen and Paul kept their word and actually returned today (10/13/12) to check out the heating system. They showed me how to replace the filters. We were completely satisfied and give our highest recommendation for Owen Geoghegan Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning.
Description of Work: The company replaced our heating/air conditioning systems. They installed 3 Coleman Echelon Series Modualting Gas Furnaces, 2 thermostats, a new programmable two stage thermostat, 3 Coleman Echelon quiet Air Conditioners, and valves, etc. They replaced all freon lines from the condenser to the new cooling equipment. They removed all the old furnaces and condensers. Owen worked in tandem with another heating contractor, Paul Fleming). Both had their sons helping. + -1 moreMy central air conditioning failed during one of the hottest times this summer. I called Owen (I had not used his services before this) and he promptly came out to diagnose my problem. Even though I could not find the users manual for my heating and cooling unit, Owen was extremely proficient and able to ascertain what was wrong. The fan was not working and several major parts needed to be replaced. Owen was able to obtain these parts in a very timely manner and my a/c was up and running which made my family and my dogs very, very happy! Owen also gave me several tips on how to reduce my electric bill....WOW!!!!...last months electric bill was nearly 40% less. The money I am going to save with Owen's tips will pay for my a/c repair in a matter of months! Owen is very professional, kind, ethical and a wonderful technician. I wouldn't think of using anyone else for my plumbing or heating and cooling needs.

+ -1 moreTheir price was so inflated so they could honor a 10% discount for Angie's List. I also do not feel I even received a discount because the price was so high. I used them for an emergency situation and he was the only one who could come out right away. His price was much higher than other estimates I received.

+ -1 moreWOW, I was calling around to get estimates on Freon and he refused to quote me over the phone. Told me it was $99 just to look at my A/C unit then would give me an estmate. Then if I chose to use him he would apply the $99 to the service. I told him I'm comparing prices and would simply like to know how much per pd does he charge. He then said, "you should just call someone else".

+ 1 moreOwen told us ahead of time the costs involved of the boiler itself and his labor. He gave us information on the Munchkin Contender boiler that he installed and alternative lower cost but lower efficiency boilers so that we could make an informed decision. It took four plus full days of work on his part. He left the work area clean and gave us the paperwork and verbal instructions about how it works and what the maintenance ( every other year) costs would be. We had an old burner there before that he removed. It was amazing how little space the new boiler took and how efficient it has been in terms of heating costs. Owen followed up with us several months later once the heating season had been underway to make sure we were seeing significant savings in our gas usage and bill as he said he could make adjustments if need be, but that was not necessary.
Description of Work: Owen installed a very high efficiency gas boiler for our heating system called a Munchkin Contender. It involved installation of extensive copper pipes but takes up very little space and has saved us a significant amount (30% +) on our heating bills. Owen has done many plumbing and heating jobs for us over the years and has always done an excellent job. He is very knowledgeable and his prices are fair.

We felt he was always respectful of the work areas he used and was prompt and always willing to answer our questions. I can highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: We had this contractor install a new sump pump in the basement. This took about a day to complete. All used material and waste was thrown out by the contractor when he finally cleaned up and left.
