About us
Kitchen Tune-Up is a family-owned and operated kitchen remodeling company out of Norton, Massachusetts. We have been in business since 1996. We specialize in Cabinet Refacing, Re-dooring, and Custom Cabinetry. We pride ourselves in our refacing modification abilities that really set us apart. These include complete layout changes, converting to full-overlay cabinetry, converting door base cabinets into drawers, converting drywalled closet or pantry areas into custom built-in cabinetry, cabinet reconfiguration for accepting appliances like microwave drawers, larger refrigerators, range hoods, etc., and much more. You can find many examples if these in our before and after photos. We have the largest selection of door styles and colors in New England, consisting of many species of solid wood including exotic wood species, rtf laminate, contemporary high-gloss acrylic, self-healing matte slabs, and more. Our wood doors can be custom color matched to any Benjamin-Moore or Sherwin-Williams color, and even custom profiled. We are proud to have received Angi's "Super Service Award" for 10 Consecutive Years with over 175 A-rated reviews from many of our very happy clients. We had some water damage that not only ruined our under sink cabinet, but caused those cabinet doors to warp and split. Because the doors were 30+ years old, we couldn't find new ones to match... all of the cabinet doors needed to be replaced. We initially contacted the Kitchen Tune-up franchise out of Newtonville, having collaborated with them in the past. Because we live outside of their territory, they referred us to the Norton franchise. We were delighted with the results. From our initial contact right through to the end, everyone working on the crew exceeded our highest expectations... by a lot! At our very first meeting with Mike Dugan, the owner, we knew we were in good hands. He brought cabinet samples out to the house and helped us to select one that was a perfect match to our recently painted trim. He made some great suggestions that we hadn't even considered, assuming the cost would be prohibitive. We were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable his pricing was, compared to others. So we were off to a great start. When the actual work finally began, the crew, led by Mike's son Jesse, couldn't have been more professional, courteous, friendly, prompt, knowledgeable...and helpful above and beyond the call of duty. One example... just minutes before the crew arrived on their first day, the cable on our garage door snapped. One of the guys on the crew -- Dave -- noticed the broken cable, told me what replacement part to buy, and after working a long day on the kitchen project, repaired the garage door before he left! The whole project was complete in only three days. Each night they would clean up after themselves and give us back our kitchen till the following morning. Typically kitchen remodeling is such an ordeal it makes you wonder whether the outcome is even worth the aggravation... In this case, it was about as painless as it could be, and the result is amazing! We are absolutely thrilled with our beautiful new kitchen. If there were a higher rating than "A" on this site , we'd give it without reservation!

We contacted Janice and she scheduled a time for her Husband Mike and Son Jessie to come over to look at the project?. We were on our way! They came two days later for a few hours and went through several options with us, brought sample materials and doors, etc. They were very helpful and based on our plans and their experience we came up with a rough budget number for the project. We waited three months to build up savings then asked Mike and Jessie to come back again for a final design and quote. They spent several more hours doing a detailed plan, they measured everything up, gave us many options and plenty of advice and new ideas about how to do the project cost effectively. We also spent quite a bit of time picking out the type of doors, colors and glazing. I was quite surprised that after Mike and Jessie huddled for about a ½ hour, he was able to write up a concise quote with specifications and a few options. We were delighted that the price was well within our budget and I felt very confident that Mike and Jessie really understood the details. The project included everything on our ?wish list?. Mike was also helpful because he could give us a rough idea of what the counter tops would cost, he made a recommendation on material (we went with Cambira which is Quartz ? we love it). He also was able to recommend a plumber and an electrician which were reliable and would do small jobs with minimal notice. We were then scheduled. I could not believe they would be in and out of the project in a matter of 4 days. When they started, they brought some help including Dave who was able to do some side work for us like installing the duct work for the microwave (we cook plenty of fish and needed the vent). The team was meticulous and very easy to work with. On project competition, they encouraged us to make detail inspection to make sure we were 100% pleased. An example of this was when we noticed one upper cabinet was off-set over the sink from the other. As it turns out it was just 3/4 on an inch and this happened because that is where our old cabinet was when we installed it 20 years ago? we just had not noticed it until now. Mike saw my wife?s concern and said ?take your dishes out, we are moving this for you, we don?t have any customers who don?t love their kitchen when we are done?? he Jessie grabbed some tools and they had it moved a ½ hour later. We were impressed! I think the before and after pictures say it all?. Kitchen Tune-up took our modest budget; they went out of their way to work within it and were extremely candid in providing advice and choices during the planning process. We could not be more pleased with the results and our friends and family cannot believe how cost effective this project was ? an A+ job by KTU. Updated 2/6/2013: We are delighted with our new kitchen from KTU. Jessie stopped by to see how we were doing. He he showed how to adjust hinges and wanted to ensure that we were fully satisfied. What a great company. I am going to post some new pictures of the project fully completed with furniture.
Description of Work: Resurfacing, New Doors, All New Island, Modification of Soffits, Adding Crown Molding, Custom Pantry and Boxing in Refrigerator. We were wanted to update our kitchen which was 20 years old. We started by looking at having our solid oak cabinets painted and glazed. Our budget for the update was modest but it included all new appliances and granite counter tops. When we got into planning and did some checking here on Angie’s List, we learned more about cabinet resurfacing. We felt we needed more than resurfacing though because wanted to remove the awkward ‘bump out’ counter, we needed a new outside stove vent installed and we wanted to replace our two tier island with a bigger and more modern one. We looked at more options including all new cabinets but this would have cost us more than $40,000 which was twice what we could spend. After considering many options we decided to go with resurfacing and new doors. We found Kitchen Tune-Up (KTU) here on Angie’s List and then whet to their website. We were delighted to find that KTU was: 1) a family business 2) had some excellent photos of their projects and 3) would also do some custom work.

We used Angie's List to identify the best Kitchen refacing companies in the area. We selected Kitchen Tune-up to give the first quote because they were based in our home town of Norton. We called and set up a time to meet and they came out right on time. They had asked on the call what we were interested in and they brought out about 15 different samples. We spent a about half an hour looking at the samples and talking about the features of each then he started measuring our cabinets while my wife and I discussed what we liked best. We have a lot of cabinets but within an hour he gave us a quote with several options based on our requests. We were very happy with the quote and the professionalism so we decided to just go with Kitchen-Tune up instead of woking with other companies. We selected the option to paint the soffet instead of having it re-faced and they provided a sample of the color that we used to match at Home Depot. We purchased our own handles at Lowes and they installed them. They had some great ideas on some finishing touches that made our kitchen look a lot better. They estimated the new doors would take about 3 weeks to come in and 2 days to install. They called in 3 weeks on a Friday and said they could come out on Monday to do the work if we were okay with that. We were available and they showed up on time Monday morning. Monday was when hurricane Sandy hit and they worked in our garage to prep the doors. They worked from about 9 AM to 4 or 5 PM on Monday and came back on Tuesday for another 5 or 6 hours. They spent a lot of time working on the doors and drawers and even took some cabinets down and re-mounted them to make sure they looked perfect. They cleaned up and vacuumed the sawdust from mounting all the handles before they left. There was one drawer front that was not the correct size and they cut it to fit as a temporary fix and ordered a new drawer and came back and replaced it when it came in. We were very happy with their work and would not hesitate to hire them again or to recommend them to any of our family and friends.
Description of Work: We needed to update our 22 year old kitchen cabinets. We have about 54 doors and 13 drawers that needed to be replaced.

Approximately 1.5 years ago I started investigating costs for cabinet refacing. I had a few contractors/refacing companies come out prior to Kitchen Tune-Up/South Shore...all of which had poor quality product to offer or where too rigid to comply with the ideas I had for my "kitchen make over". Once Mike Duggan arrived to our residence all that changed, he was like a breath of fresh air! He was very enthusiastic and provided creative ideas that I had never thought of. At that time, we were interested in hiring Kitchen Tune-Up/South Shore however, we had a sudden change in job/financial situation so we put the project on hold... much to my dismay. Fast forward to June 2012, Mike and Jesse came back to my residence and Mike remembered me right away. I felt like we left off right where we started. They were very patient and took the time to brainstorm ideas and suggest multiple options that I hadn't considered prior to their visit. They are able to "think outside the box" and be creative with their ideas. They stayed as long as it took to make sure my expectations were met. I subsequently met with them several times during the "planning" stage of the kitchen project and my interaction with them was always consistently positive. In addition to having my cabinets refaced I had new wood floors installed, kitchen counter tops replaced and tile back splash added and plumbing work done. Mike suggested each of the contractors all of which I used and I'm very pleased with the outcome. The communication between Kitchen Tune-Up/South Shore and the contractors were seamless (that was important due to everything had to be done in stages). The majority of the project took approximately 4 days. Kitchen Tune-up/South Shore always showed up on time and were courteous and professional. They always made an effort to keep the workspace cleaned up at the end of each day. Anytime I had any questions or concerns they addressed it right away. I was always reassured to know that they would go "above and beyond" to ensure we were happy with the "end result". The "end result" was beyond my expectation! We love our new kitchen...it's exactly what I envisioned! Mike, Jesse and their carpentry staff are true craftsman and are well rounded in their trade. We are very fortunate to have found Kitchen Tune-Up/South Shore....I would recommend this team to anyone I come in contact with!

We had interviewed Kitchen tuneup (south shore) along with 3 other contractors. We decided on Mike Dugan who along with his wife and son run the company., simply because we had a feeling of honesty and sincerity on their parts. They didn't try to push us onto one thing or another. They gave recommendations and answered any questions we had. We felt this would be the company we could trust doing this job. Jessie mikes son, came with Mike and measured every part of the kitchen that was going to have work done. Everything they were doing was explained in detail. Many styles of doors were shown to use, dozens were available. Wood was also shown. They left no details out, and gave us plenty of time to decide. Once we decided on what we wanted, we were gives an estimate, that was much lower than others and some had given prices for refacing that would have allowed complete replacement by KTU if we had chosen to go that route. Their quality and pricing was outstanding. Once we had everything set, mike gave us a date, since a lot of the material have to be ordered and custom made. We agreed on a late october date. The work was started on october 22 and completed on the 25th. The work was outstanding. We are especially thankful for Jessie for his excellent craftsmenship, and Mike and his wife Janice for the excellent communication and help. We are thankful we met them all and are extremely happy with the completed work.
Description of Work: We had a new counter installed by Boston Fabrication, recommended to us by Mike of Kitichen tune up. They did an outstanding job on the counter. Then Kitchen tune up came and replaced all the cupboard doors, installed 4 lazy susan type units that hide away and swing out for full access when needed. Then the dishwasher was moved to allow better opening of the storage units. They installed an enclosure around the refrigerator and put cupboards over the refrigerator. The overhead above the cupboards was changed to match the style of the doors. All the facing on the cupboards was replaced stiles were removed and replaced to balance the door relocations. Drawer fronts were replaced. Nothing was missed. Detailing was excellent.

When Mike and Jesse Duggan came to our home to give us an estimate, we had been living without a kitchen for almost 2 months. They came to our home to give us an estimate to recondition our existing wood cabinets. 25 year old cabinets that were in tough shape. They were honest and helpful and above all considerate of our desperation on that day. They were at my home for 2.5 hours for an estimate! At the end of that evening we had a plan for our kitchen. With Mike and Jesse's advice and expertise we decided to reface our existing cabinets. We had other estimates where a sales person came to our home to give us an estimate. When we asked when they could start we were told crews were booking 8-10 weeks out. It made me uncomfortable that on the day of the project strangers would show up to do the work. I asked the Duggan's how many crews doing they had working for them. Mike laughed, and said "you're looking at the crew. We do all our own work." I instantly felt at ease and comfortable. From the day we met him Mike Duggan made us his priority. My husband travels for his job and Mike went above and beyond to accommodate our busy schedule. We wanted our kitchen done as soon as possible as I am sure all of their clients do. But Mike and Jesse made us feel that we were their only clients. They gave us a time frame for when our kitchen would be completed and not only did they exceed this time frame, but also my expectations. It is the most beautiful kitchen I could have ever imagined. They refaced our existing cabinets, but they also customized and built additional cabinets for us and they came out fantastic. They were on time, they were neat, and they completed the work when they promised. We could not have been happier with our kitchen and we are forever grateful to Mike and Jesse Duggan!

Wow! Who thought that getting your kitchen redone could actually be a fun experience?? I had wanted to update my kitchen for a while and kept putting it off. Before talking to Mike and Jesse from Kitchen Tune-up, I met a salesman from a large home improvement store who came to my home to talk to me about updating my kitchen. He gave me an estimate about 22,000 - this would have included cabinet refacing, countertops, new sink and faucet and a few other things. The kitchen would have nice, but very cookie-cutter -there were limited options -- and if I wanted to get the best price, I had to sign that day! I did not like the pressure at all. Based on their Angie's List reviews, I made an appointment to have Mike and Jesse come over. Their selection of cabinet doors was amazing. They also had counter top samples, although they themselves do not install them. Also, they told me they could do anything -- any door could come in any frame or wood. Not cookie cutter at all! Plus they looked at my kitchen and made suggestions for pulling a cabinet further out and other things. As Mike talked about the high quality of the products and their ability to customize anything, I started feeling badly because I just knew that the price would be higher than the large home improvement store and I would disappoint these nice guys when I had to say 'no'. So, when he gave me the number (to which he had added an estimate for the countertop), I had to ask a few times if it was right, but it was SO MUCH LESS than the other company and I would be getting EXACTLY what I wanted. When I went to Mike and Jesse's workshop, I saw some glossy birdseye cabinet doors that I just fell in love with. These were more expensive than the others, but keep in mind that the other company would never even have given me such a choice. Not only do Mike and Jesse stock high quality cabinet doors, they have an amazing selection of cabinets made from exotic woods as well. Again, no cookie cutter kitchen with these guys! The refacing took just 2 and 1/2 days. The guys were prompt, courteous, upbeat and more than happy to respond to last minute requests. I requested some adjustable shelves. No problem for Jesse and Mike! I was concerned about the placement of some of the sliding shelves. No problem! We can change it now. Or if you want to change them later, just call us! The $14,400.00 includes the birdseye maple cabinet doors and birdseye maple veneer for other other surfaces, special cabinet doors with glass inserts, conversion of a large cabinet with adjustable shelves to one with both sliding shelves and adjustable ones, building a wall on the side of the refridgerator and pulling a cabinet forward to make it more usable, special hinges for some of the higher cabinets to make them easier to use, a great new lazy susan, and a few other things I'm probably forgetting. It does not include the counter top; another company handles that. The quality of the workmanship is just amazing. In addition to the great cabinets and installation, Mike and Jesse were also happy to work with me on ideas for the kitchen. Sometimes the choices are overwhelming but these guys have great suggestions. I think that they just love what they do, and it shows. So not only did Kitchen Tune-up give me an amazing kitchen, it was fun and stress free experience as well!

Mike and Jesse did an outstanding job on my kitchen!! The natural cherry looks absolutely beautiful. Everyone who sees it is amazed that it is refacing versus new cabinets. To accommodate my choice of refrigerator and to get that built in look, there was fairly extensive 'redoing' in that corner... it is perfect and truly looks elegant. I had all new drawers as well, some special (double-size); wonderful pull-out pan drawers where there were cupboards; pullout shelves where there were fixed shelves; glass cabinet doors where there were solid doors. So you can see this was not strictly refacing, but updating to a totally modern kitchen as well! Mike and Jesse are great at coming up with recommendations... nothing seems impossible. This was a very fun experience with a very beautiful outcome!

Outstanding job. I am thrilled with the final result. In June I met with Mike at his showroom in Norton to discuss a long-planned update of my 1985 condo kitchen. The entire project consisted of installing recessed lighting, replacing the counter tops and refacing the cabinets. I used Mike's company, Kitchen Tune-ups for the refacing portion of this project and also used Boston Fabrication, a company he works with, for installing the new counter tops. The variety of cabinet facings that Mike offered was extensive. After our first-time discussions, I made my selections. I went to Boston Fabrication and selected the Cambria quartz for the counter top. These were installed in late July. The scheduling of Mike's work was on August 20-21, and he and Jesse arrived as scheduled and on time. They removed the old doors and began the preparation work for installing the new ones. Their work was meticulous. They cleaned and de-greased the framing of the old cabinets, installed the laminate surface trim on the frames and then began the installation of the new cabinet doors. Their work was exceptional. They measured and trimmed everything. The hinges and cabinet pulls all work beautifully. Their clean up after the project was done was excellent. My condo requires contractors to remove any construction debris and they hauled away the old doors. As an example of their outstanding work, I have never been able to open the drawer next to the stove, due to the stove handle protruding into the pathway of the drawer. Jesse cut a small piece off the new drawer front and made it permanent to the frame and thus created enough clearance so that I can open this drawer and have fully use of it. I would recommend this firm to anyone considering this type of project.

In addition to refinishing the cabinets, Jessie built a new drawer that was broken and reconfigured an area that wasn't lined up correctly. They also replaced and stained to match a piece of trim that was missing. When I mentioned that I would be having my counters replaced by a contractor that I've used in the past, Mike offered some hints for the new counters. They were both very neat, pleasant, and efficient. They gave me a feeling of confidence from the the first time I met them because I could tell they knew their business. So I am very grateful for the work that Mike and Jessie did to make my kitchen cabinets look like new again. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone that needed kitchen cabinet restoration.
Description of Work: Mike and Jessie refinished my wooden kitchen cabinets. My cabinets are sturdy and in excellent shape but just needed to be refinished. There were areas that had lightened due to water dripping down from the sink, and often-used drawers. I called several companies on Angie's list but I couldn't find another company that does this type of restoration. They only reface or replace kitchen cabinets. When I had mentioned to Mike and Jessie that I was very sensitive to chemical odors, they said that there were some doors that needed to be sprayed with a chemical that had an odor. So they would remove and spray those doors outside. Actually Mike called the day before the work was to be done because the weather would be such that the odor would linger in the house and he wanted to reschedule. They were EXTREMELY considerate of my sensitivity to the chemicals.

My husband and i were looking for a company to reface our cabinets. We had gone to the RI Home Show in Providence with the idea that we would look at a few places, have them come out and take a look at the kitchen, give us estimates, and then we would decide who to go with. Kitchen Tune-Up was one of the four vendors that we set up an appointment with. The first company representative (from Kitchen Options) that came to our home was clearly out to make a buck fast. He had terrible materials, and when my husband and I told him we would think about it, he actually got mad at us. I just about threw him out of my house! The second representative that came out was from Kitchen Magic, definitely a salesman, out to make a buck, although he had my husband and I convinced to sign with his company, even down to the line of "if you sign with me today, we will give you 20% off your purchase, but if you don't sign with us today, we cannot give you the discount". We thought, WOW 20% is some serious money off, but the funny thing was that some of my requests they could not fullfil, which i just assumed no vendor could, maybe we were asking for the impossible. We originally signed with Kitchen Magic, and the estimate given to us was for over $15,000 (our kitchen isn't even that big). At that point, we felt it was pointless to have the other reps come out as we already hired someone. I contacted Kitchen Tune-Up that day and spoke with Mike and i am really glad that i did! I did inform him that i wanted to cancel my appointment with him because i had booked with another vendor. Mike respectfully asked who we decided to go with and i told him, and very sincerely he replied "i will guaranty i can offer you more for your money, let me come out and you can decide for yourself, but just give me the opportunity". He had a good point! I had him come out the next day, and boy was he right. His materials were CLEARLY superior over Kitchen Magic's, he was able to do EVERYTHING that i wanted unlike Kitchen Magic and the best part was he charged us $6000 less for MORE!! My husband and i got a really good feeling about Mike and Jesse! They were very professional, not your typical salesman just trying to make a quick buck. They were patient, went over everything and the best part was we were not pressured into a sale. After seeing what they had to offer, we then signed with Kitchen Tune-Up and we cancelled with Kitchen Magic (within our 3 day right to recission). Mike and Jesse ordered the materials and in a few weeks were at the house starting the job. The whole job was completed in 2 and a half days, at the end of a work day, they left everything nice and neat and my husband and I were never inconvenienced by not having a kitchen while the work was being done. They even had great suggestions of putting crown molding on the top of of the cabinets, which was included in the price. Kitchen Magic wanted an additional $600 to add crown molding. Additionally, we have a center island that needed "a little something", so i had told Mike that I wanted "dummy cabinets" on the outside to give the island more dimention. NOT A PROBLEM!! Included in the price. Kitchen Magic wanted over $1000 for this request. Bottom line, if i could be the Public Relations person for Kitchen Tune - Up and represent Mike and Jesse I would in a heartbeat! My kitchen looks BEAUTIFUL!! For the first time since we owned the home, I love looking at my cabinets! I have gotten so many compliments on them and how it just makes the house POP! I am so glad that I gave Mike and Jesse the opportunity to come out and give me an estimate, because if i didn't i would be stuck with a kitchen where i wanted more and received less. They gave us what we wanted and more! Highly recommended!!
Description of Work: My husband and I were looking to reface our existing cabinets in our kitchen and update the overall look of the room. We dealt with Mike and Jesse Dugan from Kitchen Tune-Up(South Shore) on the overall look that we were aiming for. When we had bought the house eight years ago, I knew then that the cabinets we had were of decent material but I always hated the style and color of them. Mike and Jesse came to the house, went over every detail of what we would expect during the refacing process, gave us other ideas on what would look great, and were extremely professional. These gentlemen are top notch in my book!! My husband and I are both in the service industries, and we are always willing to give credit where credit is due. I would use them over and over again and i would highly recommend them to anyone that is looking to do refacing. They have quality products, are very knowledgable and patient with their customers, and are very down to earth!

They were fantastic. Before Kitchen Tune Up, I was hard sold by a competitor. Mike, from Kitchen Tune Up took care of everything. He organized the electrician, the plumber, all the workers. He wasn't pushy, he worked with me. The kitchen came out fantastic. I would recommend him to anyone. He has a great team that works for and with him.
Description of Work: They came in and did a cabinet refacing. They also did some new cabinets as well. The older cabinets look brand new.
Our lakefront home had an old kitchen enclosed in a small space in the back of our house. Mike and Janice had the vision to open up the walls, giving us the beautiful view of the water and increase the usable area and provide enough storage desperately needed in the kitchen. Most importantly, they understood and enhanced what we wanted and went far beyond what we ever expected our kitchen could be. Gorgeous cherry wood complimenting the wood paneling of a lake house, stone counters which are easily maintained as well as serving as eating tops. Allowing the old brick fireplace to be an attractive centerpiece with a coffee nook. We had initially planned on removing all our old cabinets and replacing them with new ones. Mike and Janice instead saved many of our old cabinets and used them in addition to designing new cabinets where necessary, which reduced the overall cost of our project. We could never have envisioned the result that they created. All of these changes we couldn't have envisioned and it has transformed the look, value and use of our home. The work was very professional, did not interfere with our daily activities and incredibly they charged within the budget although deserved much more. Anyone wanting to upgrade his kitchen will benefit from their design recommendations, quality selections, budget conscious estimates and incredible workmanship. We feel very fortunate to have found them and would hire them again knowing that the results are worth waiting for.
Description of Work: Complete design, remodeling, refacing, building of custom cabinetry, counters and wall removal of old kitchen in waterfront home.

Mike, Jessie and Dave (their carpenter) were a great team. We never met Janice, but spoke with her on the phone. Mike took the lead from start to finish - meeting with us, both at our home and back at his show room, advising us, and following up to be sure that everything was to our satisfaction. He helped us figure out what we wanted to do with our project. His approach is very low key/low pressure, yet very professional. It was clear that he had a range and depth of experience that made us very confident that he would do a good job. Mike works with a number of other contractors on a regular basis (e.g. counter tops, plumber, electrician and tile) who he recommended to us. They all know each other quite well and we were very pleased with all of them. We used our own electrician, with whom we have a long term relationship, and that was fine. It will require some of your time to communicate with each of the separate contractors to make the arrangements/ contracts, etc. There was a little glitch with the stove being too tight a fit with the cabinet configuration and counters. We did not worry at all, because we knew that Mike would arrange to take care of it until it was right. Which is just what he did - even while we were out of town! He called at the end of that day to fill us in on everything that was done. Our new, updated kitchen is gorgeous and a pleasure to use! We couldn't recommend Kitchen Tune-Ups more highly. I would say the best recommendation for Kitchen Tune-Ups South Shore is that we are already thinking about other projects in our house that we want to have them come back to do!
Description of Work: We had Kitchen Tune-Ups reface our cabinets (new doors) and do some re-configuring of our kitchen - we switched to a gas range rather than an electric cook top and separate electric wall oven, and a larger refrigerator - which required some related adjustments to our cabinets.

I really liked them a lot. They were very good. They were always on time. We were told which day it would be started and they were there on that day and when they said they would be. After we started the project we had a death in the family and had to go out of the country. They were very considerate and extended the project with no problem. They had a great showroom and we were able to find cabinets that I have not seen anywhere else. We were able to find birdseye maple, which is very unusual. They also had bamboo and wangi. They came up with a great solution to make the kitchen molding flow with the rest of the house. It is very pretty and unique. They were very honest and allowed us to think about the different options. I was very impressed and very happy.

Planning the refacing project with Mike and Janice Dugan was a most pleasant, positive and comfortable experience from Mike?s initial visit to our home, our time with him and his wife in their home showroom for selection and his detailed measuring of all cabinets. Janice and Mike?s expertise and personal interest in assisting us with decisions made it clear to us that we had selected the right people for the job. Work began in mid-October. The Kitchen Tune-Up crew of Mike, Jesse and Dave were punctual, pleasant and informative. As issues arose, since the house was built in 1953 with uneven floors and unleveled cabinets, shelves and drawers, I was part of all discussions and remedies. Each day ended with a very clean space. Mike was always concerned with making sure that work met his high standards and that we were pleased with the work. One corner cabinet door did not fit to his satisfaction, so he simple re-measured and ordered another. When he was unhappy with the kick-plat in the bathroom he did the same. The installation of the quartz counters in the kitchen by the fabrication company did complicate the project. Arrival of and installation of the counter tops added more work and adjustment for Mike. Additionally, he addressed the issues with the other company and adjustments were made. Although the project did extend beyond the planned week due to the aforementioned, my wife and I could not be happier with Mike, Janice and Jesse and their Kitchen Tune-Up company on the South Shore. We know that as minor issues arise, they will always be prompt to respond. They are truly dedicated to their craft and their customers. The attached photos are a tribute to their work.
Description of Work: Our 1980 vintage white kitchen cabinets with oak trim were refaced with rustic cherry slab door and drawer fronts and all cabinet fronts and sides. The large L-shaped island was remodeled and refaced. Five rollouts were Installed. Also, a bathroom vanity with new white doors with pewter trim was refaced. The kitchen counter tops in quartz were installed in a separate contract with a local fabrication company.

The estimate was right on target. He showed up exactly when he said he would and finished the project on time and they cleaned up after themselves. He was honest and didn't try to up sell us on anything and even let us know there were some areas that didn't need refaced. I couldn't be more satisfied with the work.

I recently hired Kitchen Tune Up (South Shore) to reface 17 year old laminated cabinets for my large kitchen in a contemporary home. From start to finish Mike Duggan was available, helpful and competent. He came to the house twice with many samples to choose from and when I still couldn't decide made his showroom available to me on a Sunday which was the only day I could visit. He provided me with the cost for my top three choices on the spot (and stuck to it). I had put off the kitchen renovation project for years because of the time usually required for such a project. After seeing what friends and neighbors have gone through for their new kitchens I thought I'd just make do. Mike assured me that refacing would be much less disruptive then replacing the cabiets and that the project could be completed in three to four days - and it was! Kitchen Tune Up cleaned the worksite every night before they knocked off and we were able to use the kitchen throughout. Mike's son, Jesse Duggan, is a wizard in all things spacial and corrected mistakes from the original cabinets' installation such as mis-alligned appliances and uneven door lines. The carpenters re-built and moved three existing cabinets to ensure symmetry without my even having had to ask. The materials used were of very high quality. I was concerned that the cabinet sides would merely be veneer but Kitchen Tune Up installed wood panels making the cabinets look substantial and "real." The drawers were completely replaced (with dividers) at a very reasonable cost. Several sliding shelves were installed in the lower cabinets and the dreaded trash compactor was replaced with a pull out divided bin for trash and recycling. The kitchen feels brand new. To sum up - my family and I couldn't be more pleased. This was a low stress, reasonably priced project with high quality returns. My kitchen is so beautiful, I don't even want to leave it to go to sleep at night!

I was given several different options with competive prices and once again I was pleasantly suprised at the quality of work you get for what is a reasonable price. The work was done in a timely, CLEAN and professional manner. A couple of doors and drawer fronts came in wrong, but I was provided with temporary pieces until the correct ones came in. My husband and friends didn't even notice. Also, as a sidebar...they have great travel tips!
Description of Work: Having had a wonderful experience with KTU in Florida, I decided to find the franchise locally. I had the pleasure of meeting the Dugan family several years ago for a "facelift" in my kitchen. Not only was everything to my liking, but I felt I was doing business with a long lost friend. So when it came time to re-do the kitchen in my current home....we downsized to a condo..I didn't hesitate to call upon Mike once again. We replaced a couple of cabinets, added drawers, changed all the doors, added endpanels, crown moulding and light panels.

Every thing went like clockwork. They arrived on time every morning in lettered trucks and shirts. That impressed my husband. They cleaned up every day, And informed us as to what was going on throughout the project. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: We researched Refacing our current cabinets as well as replacing them with new custom cabinetry. We were surprised to find that very few companies actually did both. Kitchen tune up of Norton did. They had a very relaxing approach as compared to all the 3 hr sales pitches we had to sit through with companies like Sears, Home Depot, and Kitchen Magic. We also spoke with two local refacers we would rather not name. We just didn't feel the confidence with them that we did with Kitchen tune up.They don't send a salesman to your home. the owner and his son came out and asked us a lot of questions about how we use our kitchen that nobody else asked. It was apparent that they were concerned with finding the right options for us. they made suggestions to do things that home depot said they couldn't do, but Mike the owner could (and did). Their selection of door styles absolutely dwarfed everybody else. We visited the show room and were amazed that we had so many options. We decided on refacing with a cherry shaker style and made several modifications to the exiting lay out. The whole thing took 3 days. The owners son, Jesse and their carpenter Dave were wonderful to work with.It was actually fun to watch how they did everything. I can't imagine ever recommending anyone more highly than this company. The best part was the price. They were literally thousands less than the other bids we got. We have a 5 yr warantee, and the quality is fantastic. We are planning to have them back in the rear future to do our bathrooms

After agreeing to a contract, KTU ordered the materials and gave us a date in late April. We contacted the countertop people and picked out our countertop. We removed the old ceramic tile floor and the ceramic tile backsplash. We installed the new ceramic tile floor. The countertop was installed in late March by Boston Fabricators. See report on Boston Fabricators We then installed as much of the ceramic tile backsplash as we could keeping in mind the cabinet modifications that were to take place. On April 19th, KTU showed up to start the work. The old cabinet trim around the ceiling and the shelves around the window was removed by the carpenter and the cabinet modifications was started. Meantime the resurfacing people unrolled the laminate in an area at least 10 feet long, and then prepped the surface on the cabinet structure and installed the hinges on the new cabinet doors. The carpenter then built the surround for the refrigerator including a cabinet that had been built off site. The carpenter also modified the cabinet above the stove so that a microwave/convection oven could be installed above the stove. The electrical work had been done ahead of time. The installation of the wood laminate was started while the carpenter was doing his thing. It was pretty crowded in the kitchen with up to 4 people working there at the same time, but they all worked around each other very well. Doing wood working as a hobby, it was a pleasure watching these people doing their thing like an ochestra. After the modifications were complete, the carpenter started work on installing the spice racks, while the cabinet person completed installing the laminate. Once the laminate was installed, the doors were installed. When getting ready to install the spice racks, it was noted that tere was an empty space between the cabinet and the spice rack. KTU asked if we would like a wine rack installed to take up the space. It was decide to go this route, and the wine rack was built and installed. While the drawers were being installed with the cherry face, the carpenter installed the new crown molding aroung the top of the cabinets and also installed the light rail on the bottom of the cabinets. The work was completed in 3 days and the kitchen looked fantastic. Because of changes made during the installation, the doors for the spice racks had to be changed, so new doors had to be ordered. These new door s were installed on May 12th, which completed the job. The 2 carpenters, Dave and Matt were very professional and knowledgeable. All their work was done to their high standards. Jesse and Mike the KTU people involved in this project were also very professional and were very precise in their work. All of these people work very well together, occasionally jabbing each other good naturedly. Our thanks go to each of them for a job well done. .
Description of Work: Wnen first met with Kitchen Tune Up in February to go over out needs and to obtain a quote on resurfacing the kitchen cabinets. The quote was in the ballpark . The decision was made to go with Kitchen Tune Up. KTU then gave us contractor number and gave us a contractor to contact for the countertop KTU contacted us a couple of weeks ahead of their receiving the material for the cabinet resurfacing to establish a date to do the actual installation. We emptied the cabinets of all contents. Be sure to have a lot of boxes to store items in until the job is completed. We moved the oven and the refrigerator out of the kitchen the day before KTU was to start, so that they would have room to work. We also removed all the drawers and cabinet doors, but this was not necessary, since they sent their carpenter ahead of their arriving to accomplish this task. KTU and their carpenter arrived on April 19th and started to work. The modifications that had been agreed to were started, and the cabinet surfaces were prepared. The location of the refrigerator had been moved and the carpenter made a structure to make the refrigerator look built in with a cabinet built in over the refrigerator. The cabinet over the stove had to be modified so that a combination microwave/convection oven could be installed ove the stove. The stove was located where the refrigerator had been, so filler pieces had to be added to the cabinets to make the area a tight fit for the stove. While the carpenter was doing his thing, the work was started on resurfacing the existing cabinets. There needs to be an area where the laminate can be unrolled and laid flat, such as a living room. Once the cabinet structures had been resurfaced, the cabinet doors were installed, and the drawers installed. The whole installation took 3 days. KTU also built in a wine rack in a space that wasn't useful and was not part of the original agreement for no charge.

They came out to the house and discussed options with me about my cabinets. They gave me an estimate to refurbish my cabinets. Refinishing my cabinets saved me a lot of money versus replacing. The work was done in a day. After all of the work was done I wasn't happy with a couple of doors. They came back out at no charge and did what was necessary to resolve the situation. I was very pleased with the results.
