He gave me a free estimate nearly a year ago that was thorough, with photos and explanations of what needed to be done and how it could be done over time if we wanted to spread out the cost. Once it was time to do the work, they were there whenever the weather was good enough. They cleaned up when they were done. Jesse gave me updates periodically and sent photos of finished work as well (it's a 3 story house - difficult to see everything that was done from the street). Yes, it was very expensive but they were cheaper than the other estimate we got and it was very difficult to find someone who was knowledgeable about slate roofs and willing to do a fairly small, residential job. We would definitely use them again if needed.
Description of Work: Extensive repair of a 100 year old slate roof.

Keep in mind that I work with slate daily carving letters. I am VERY fussy about quality of workmanship. So, I have an appreciation for slate work which is done right.
Description of Work: I needed a slate roof installed on our guesthouse. First, the roofer, Jesse, had to remove the existing shingles and copper valleys, peak and bathroom vents and remove the gutters (which are made of wood). That can be a problem for a homeowner due to nails which might not be captured which end up in the lawn adjacent to the house. No problem there. The work was done very neatly. The roofing was removed without any residue (nails) left on the ground. Next, underlay must be installed and peaks, valleys and bathroom vents had to be duplicated. Again, no problem with any of that. The new metal looks great and, as I watched it being installed, I could see that it was done exactly as it should be done. Then the shingles had to be installed. We agreed that recovered shingles from a barn roof in VT would be best to use. They are thicker than what we could buy new and they are the color I wanted. In addition, they have a patina to them which looks far better than if the slates were all identical. Finally, they replaced the gutters.

+ 0 moreJesse and his team at Renaissance Roofing were exceptional in several ways in their approach to our wooden roof: Jesse’s advice about repair/replacement was solid and conservative in terms of his assessment regarding the condition of the roof and its longevity; he noticed, suggested and added details (at his own expense) that enhanced the roof’s function; when he ran across problems that were outside the original job description, he corrected them (like sealing a chimney crack, replacing deteriorated shakes on the barn roof, and removing a broken weather vane that had fallen over); he was appropriately communicative regarding keeping tabs on the weather and its effect on the work schedule; the work was completed in a timely manner; the work site was kept neat and clean; and he followed up after the first post-repair storm to make sure that the leak had resolved. Jesse’s wide-ranging knowledge, workmanship and interactive style are excellent.
Description of Work: A leak and some defects had developed in our 20-year-old wooden roof.

+ -1 moreJessie is responsive and professional. Always prompt in returning calls and arrives early in the morning and on schedule. Clearly someone who is familiar with slate roofs which has become more of a niche specialty as slate roofs have become more rare over time. Work appears to be of high quality and job site always remained clean. Finished job on schedule and as priced. Slate roof repair is generally not inexpensive but Renaissance appears to be in line with other contractors in this space. I do intend to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Slate Roof repair including new valley w/ copper flashing and replacement of numerous slate tiles.

Description of Work: They reflashed chimneys, repaired tiles, repaired and replaced all the gutters on a slate roof house and repaired the slate roof.

Description of Work: I highly recommend Renaissance Roofing! Doug was quick to get back to me, and worked around my schedule to give me an estimate. They restored my slate roof including the copper work at a very fair price. They didn't go over estimate, got done when they said they would, and left my yard as clean as it was when they got here.

+ -1 moreThey are always professional in every way - respectful of my time, my property and my budget. They are very good with slate roofs and I have used them in the past for other repairs. They are the best and their bill is reasonable for premium work. They work in the freezing cold, deal with all the ice and they leave the yard the way they find it. I won't have anyone else on my roof!
Description of Work: They replaced the broken slates, downspouts, gutters, fascia, aluminum wrap and rebuilt the soffit. They also recommended and installed snow guards so that this won't be a recurring problem.
