Apparently you have to spend big money here in order to get anyone's attention. I was told my request was too small of a project even though it would have been in the ballpark of $2000 or more. Maybe they are billionaires and don't really need any more business. Is this is the case is this really the type of company that would be motivated to do a good job for someone?

Your name isn't in our call-taking system at all, and your name doesn't exist in the public records for the address your Angie's List account indicates. One of the first things we ask when we get (new) incoming calls is "where are you calling from". If it's a town outside of our normal service area, we politely and respectfully decline the request for work. With that said, it would not make any sense for us to get into costs. You should be ashamed of yourself for writing such a fabricated report. Gary Wilson

We highly recommend Wilson services. Over the years, we have found them to be professional, reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy. They have provided us with courteous, personal, and timely service time and again. We have had a remarkably large need for heating installation over the last ten years, and have used several local companies. In our previous home we installed an oil fired Buderus system. In our current house we installed a high efficiency gas fired Buderus system. Most recently we expanded our heating system to accommodate a new addition. A different heating contractor performed each of these installations. This has allowed us to experience the dramatic quality variations in design, research, installation and professionalism amongst the three companies. After getting three bids, we selected Wilson services to perform the installation in our current house. Gary Wilson?s estimate was accurate and justified. Rather than just a price, the necessary components were delineated. In addition he gave us several options and detailed how these options would affect efficiency and cost. All of Wilson?s technicians respected our home and our privacy. They took care to ensure that the installation looked appropriate for the house and integrated with the structure. They have been, and continue to be, clearly dedicated to customer service and invested in ensuring that their system functions as it should. The energy savings have been dramatic and our house is quite comfortable in the wintertime. When we expanded our Buderas system to accommodate the addition, our contractor pressured us to work with the heating and plumbing company he was most comfortable with. We were nervous about moving away from Wilson, but were convinced to try the contractor?s preferred company. It was a mistake. The new components did not integrate well with the old, and the service does not compare. Wilson services installs large hydronic radiators that cut fuel costs by allowing a lower water temperature. The new company clearly did not understand this and undersized all of the radiators in the new space. As a result our well insulated addition has been noticeably colder than the rest of the 100 year old house. Gary has been obliging in helping us to work out a solution to the problem. This, then, is ultimately why we most heartily recommend Wilson Services: they didn?t forget about us once our heating system was installed, they have continued to treat us as valued customers. When I call for the yearly service the office staff remembers me. When I first called to talk about the problem we were having, I was connected with a technician who happened to be in the shop. He remembered all the details of our installation -- an installation that only took a few days several years ago. We recommend Wilson, finally, because we can trust them to do the best job and to stand by their work.
Description of Work: Wilson services removed our old oil fired boiler and steam radiators and replaced the entire house's heating system with a gas fired Buderus boiler.

Thank you for the very thorough and thoughtful review. Hydronic heating is my favorite aspect of what I do on a daily basis, we do the 'above average' stuff all the time. When I worked with the general contractor community years ago, I always thought it was interesting how the home owner, the 'end user', was never really given a chance to get educated by me, the heating and cooling professional (it's one of the several reasons why I don't work with builders anymore). But, it does make perfect sense, why would the home owner pay more for something they know nothing about? Actually, in fairness to the builders, there are some that actually did make the connection happen, but it was really rare. Your story is a little different, you already has the advanced heating system installed, and another contractor did their best to add on to it. Hopefully, after my visit and updated calculations on the heating needs of the addition, the builder will make the problem go away, it seems like you're dealing with an above-average builder with a good reputation. Thanks again, Gary Wilson

Gary and his team work extremely well with each other, like they're on auto pilot or something. They were very respectful in and around our home, you don't see that every day. It seems like his rates are higher than average, but I'm not sure how many heating guys have the experience Wilson does when it comes to this European style of heating. No matter the scope of your work - basic or advanced - you'll get top notch expertise and excellent work from Wilson Services. He's worth every dollar spent!
Description of Work: Hired Wilson to re-do some of the boiler piping and add zones. With our growing family, we wanted to add some heating to the basement level (two new European style radiators in the basement bedrooms, each with its own new programmable thermostat) and also separate the first floor into 3 zones (we like our bedroom very cold, and our young child is on the other end of the house). Gary and his crew came and spent a bit under two days tearing the old piping out and installing new pipes everywhere. Gary wired up this zone box to handle all 5 of the new/old zones (he didn't want the electrician to do it, don't know why, when the electrician saw it he said it looked good). Gary seems to be into control wiring- for a couple of years we had two thermostats in our dining room, one for the cooling system in the attic and on for the original boiler zone. While he was here we asked if he could make it happen with one thermostat, he said sure thing. Now we have one thermostat (I guess the complicated part was the system in the attic does heating too), and when Gary installed this sensor outside we can now operate with the heat pump system or the boiler depending on weather conditions.

Thanks for the very thoughtful review! Yes, tearing out the old and installing new is what we do best! I felt like I could wire up that control and make it look extra nice, neat low-voltage wiring is one of my things. While your project wasn’t 100% European style, it was good and close. Costs: that’s one of the marvels of what I do for a living- many people spend good money for a quality heating system, yet the heating contractor/plumber does not know how to utilize today’s European technologies and their control strategies (a nice way to say they don't understand controls and control wiring). And, those two thermostats, it just took a basic relay, piece of cake. It’s the conundrum of contracting, if you want cheap you will get cheap, if you want quality you may or may not get it! In today’s world, it really pays to find the contractor with the best reputation. BTW thanks for feeding me too! A Footnote to anyone reading this- all the materials were paid for by the home owner direct to local vendor (the $3000 didn't include materials). Gary Wilson

I recently purchased a home with a furnace and oil tank that looked to have been poorly maintained by the previous owner. I didn't want to continue using the company that had installed it and put their sticker on it since some of the past repairs looked questionable, so I called the top rated local HVAC company on Angie's list - Wilson Services. The call lasted about a minute. I was asked "What brand of furnace do you have?" I answered "Thermo-Pride." The receptionist put the phone down and yelled, "Hey [Joe], do we work on Thermo-Prides?!?" This level of cluelessness is probably not representative of the actual technicians, but the person who answers the phones and makes the appointments is the face of the company to a new customer and that did not instill any confidence. She was very nice at least. It was a moot point anyways, the next thing I was told was that they will not work on oil-fired furnaces installed by anyone else because "they get too complicated." I was basically ready to write a blank check for a complete system overhall to bring everything up to Wilson's apparently high standards... their refusal to take my business is pretty confusing, but I guess their client base is big enough without me.
Description of Work: No services were provided. This is a review of the customer service experienced when calling to make an appointment as a new customer.

Thank you for your comments. I spoke with our office person about this incident, I'm sure this won't happen again. In any case, oil systems are not (nor did she use the word 'complicated') complicated. For a variety of reasons, we only service oil systems that we have installed. Most people know this yet some do not: oil companies with their in-house technicians are the best way to go when you are trying to get someone to 'take over' your oil system (yet when you want above average installations, that's where we come in). I'm sorry my company handed this less than professionally. Gary Wilson

I called at 9 AM explaining my furnace was not working. They assured me they could get someone out there that day. I did not hear from them so called back at noon. They told me I was next on the list, then added they do not do after hours calls and their day ends at 3:30, but the tech would most likely be there, they were just finishing up the last job before mine. I explained a second time I was disabled and needed to have my heat on that night as the temperatures were dropping to single digits, should I get someone else? They said the should be there in time and they had the parts in stock needed to repair my unit. At 2:30 I called again, this time they said it looked like the tech could not get to my house that day. Now it's 2:30 in the afternoon and I have next to no chance of getting any other company to my house. I ended up spending the night in the cold. If I had known earlier they could not make it to my house I would have had more time to find another company to do it. The information I received from the person answering the phones cam in stages. 1. No after hours 2. when their work day ended 3. they would be there. 4. mostlikely they would be there. 5. can't be there.

I spoke with our office person, your account of what happened is inaccurate. On single-digit days are phones go ballistic. We never promise someone (new customers) we will be there in extreme weather, becasue we are so busy talking care of our loyal clientele. You were told (your initial phone call to us that morning) we could NOT guarantee we could get there that day, and that you may want to call around to see if any other heating contractors would be able to give you a more firm schedule. And, IF we did, there may be after-hours fees, which all hinged on us not knowing how long it would take us to get through all of the service calls we already had in the schedule. Other matters that made your particular call less than normal- 1-we asked you what brand of system you had (have), and you didn't know. We don't work on all systems, so another reason why we could not guarantee anything. 2- you weren't even home during all of this, not our typical protocol. You were trying to reach your room mate I was told. 3- you were never told we have the parts for your heating system on our truck. We don't even know what kind of system you have, and even if we did, we still don't carry every parts for heating systems with us. A pleasant note to anyone reading this: I encourage you to carefully choose which heating contractor you do business with. Our small company only offers after-hours service for systems that we have installed and have us do the annual service on the heating appliance(s). In other words, if you have your systems installed by some friend of a friend, you may have problems getting service when you really need it. Gary Wilson

Wilson Services replaced our old oil burner and boiler in 2008. In March 2013, we had them convert us to a gas burner. In both cases we were pleased with their professionalism, knowledge, thoroughness, timeliness and willingness to explain everything to us. We also liked that they never made exaggerated claims about the benefits of converting; in fact, have always been cautious about the financial benefit. Gary Wilson (owner) is remarkable in his willingness to answer questions and provide advice, in person and over email. The new gas burner worked fine in March and April, but last week when it cold enough to wake the burner up, it didn't come on. I called Wilson and they had a service person at our house the next day. He spent over 2 hours tuning the burner so that it would start and run as quietly as possible. When I asked Gary what I owed him, he replied that there was no charge since this was an extension of the installation.
Description of Work: Serviced my new gas burner when it failed to start after the summer.

We met with Gary to discuss our options since our AC unit was not working too well. He did a thorough examination and provided us with all the options from a temporary quick fix to an ac replacement to a furnace AC replacement. He was very knowledgeable and professional and more importantly he seemed honest and interested that we understand our options and do what is best for us. We had used him before a few years ago to fit our AC with zones and his work held up and did the job it was supposed to, so we had a positive impression to start. We also perused Angies List carefully and decided not to go with a second bid, which we usually do given that replacing our central air and our furnace was a big job. We just felt comfortable with Gary's manner and with our past experience. Gary followed through with everything he said and there was not any problems working with him. He is prompt and does everything he says he will do. He and his men arrived promptly on the day of the job and got it done in one day. Gary was willing to come back the next day and go over the operational details. his men were courteous and were easy to have around. The system installed is working great and is a big improvement . So to summarize: Gary is an honest, professional , experienced and knowledgeable provider who has an excellent workforce to do the job correctly .

Installation wasn't due for another week or so but right in the middle of our heat wave (I had told them only one day's notice was needed - and I got that), they came a week early. Perfect timing. The installation, including the electrical work, was all done in one day with no problems and cleanup was perfect. Great consideration was given to nearby furniture and nothing was disturbed. The Wilson staff was completely professional and knew the equipment well. The day of the installation, the outside temperature was over 98 degrees in very high humidity - one of the hottest days of the year and much of the work involved the installation of two outside units, piping, and electrical work, half of which was from a ladder to the second floor level. The installer was amazing and got the job done despite the weather conditions. After checking out the work, the crew left and we were able to immediately enjoy our first use of whole house AC just in time to be comfortable for the rest of the week when temperatures were again in the 90's and the nights would have been very oppressive. What a joy, particularly at our age. It has been a real pleasure watching highly competent professionals at work. We couldn't ask for a better experience and we are looking forward to using the units for heat during the winter.

At the beginning of this whole process, we got estimates from several different companies. The estimate from Wilson's was right in line with all other estimates. We chose to work with Wilson's, because Gary listened to what we wanted, clearly explained our our options, and was willing to work with us within our budget. When Wilson's began to do the work at our house, Gary was there with his staff every day. All employees from Wilson's (including Gary and his staff) were kind, respectful and professional. Their work seems top notch. They also helped us through the process of applying to MassSave, acquiring a loan and working with the gas company. We really appreciate their high quality work. On top of all this, I feel strongly that if we have any problems with our new heat/hot water system, Wilson's will respond and fix the problems.

Gary responded very promptly (the same evening) and came the next day. He was completely upfront about the basic cost that would be incurred, and he kept to his estimate exactly. The result has been fabulous! We now have well-regulated heat, and plenty of it, and the upstairs is no longer 10 degrees warmer than the downstairs. It is a pleasure not to have to retreat to the bedroom in the evenings just to keep warm on the cold days of winter. Gary was prompt, honest, competent, and fully professional. I recommend Wilson Services, which he owns, without reservation.
Description of Work: I emailed Wilson Services on Jan 28 to see if someone could come the next day to adjust our heating system. It had a problem (too warm upstairs, not warm enough downstairs) that we had been living with for three years and we finally had had enough and decided to see if we could do something about it. Gary came the next day and adjusted all our radiators and balanced the heat. At my request, he also installed a new thermostat that was much easier to set and adjust than the one I had (this added $110 to the cost--although Gary told me how to get a fuel efficiency rebate of $25 on the unit, which is pending).

The job seemed to take a very long time to complete, it started on Nov.12th and work was still going on in January. Our concern of course was the drop in the outside temperature and the risk of water pipes freezing.. Work began in ernest in late November. We were informed by Wilson that the job was complete on Dec. 3rd and that the balance of the payment was due. We inspected the site and found that both units were not operating, did not have the features we requested and paid for and the work had not been approved by the town inspector We pointed out to Wilson that under the contract we all signed, the second payment was due when the system was operational. After much back and forth and confusion on Wilson's part about the content of their own contract, the job was finally complete so we could make the second payment. To date we have not paid the third payment (10%) because the final work has not been inspected by the town and we don't know when it will be scheduled. In Wilson's defense, it was their busiest time of the year and they seemed to be having communication problems between management and their employees. With all of this in mind, I would think twice about using them again for a job of this scope.

The contract called for 3 payments, I was looking for the second payment, not the final payment. You express concern that the property would possibly freeze. Not that it matters but I have never seen (or heard of) a house freeze up in early December in our climate. Both systems were completely operational the first week of December. I was informed before the work began that there would be workers in the house daily as well as the remodeling person that was running this project for you; this wasn't a house that was completely vacated as you indicate. Because your electrician's inability to wire the most basic thermostat, the heating system would not come on. After I went and corrected the 1st wiring problem, I told your remodeling person "please tell your electrician when he installs the next thermostat not to use R and C , use R and W". It's interesting however that I was seemingly at fault for the boilers not working (based on your e-mail communication)...twice. I routinely schedule inspections when the job is 100% done. If it's a new gas service to the home we need more than one inspection. You already had gas in the home. I did forget there was a feeder valve included in the agreement. My fault on the one. When your remodeling person informed me that he thought "the system won't work without the feeder valve" I then understood why there was so much concern over this normally non relevant part. The oil tank was removed several weeks later- which we both agreed was not holding anything up at all. Lastly your account of how much the job total was is more than $10,000 off. We did this work for less than $20,000. Could you please rewrite your report to reflect a more accurate account of what happened? Or, perhaps this is the spouse of the person that hired me writing this report- I don't know. Thank you, Gary Wilson

Although this A/C problem occurred long after our warranty had ended, Wilson Services repaired it (several hours of difficult labor on a hot day) and DID NOT CHARGE US A PENNY FOR PARTS OR LABOR! We consider this a sign of the excellent relationships that Wilson builds with their long-term clients. Wilson has installed our heater, A/C and hot water heater, and we have always been extremely pleased. They offer very high quality service and stand behind their work. Another great experience with Wilson Services!
Description of Work: Our A/C (installed by Wilson Services six years ago) had developed a small leak. Wilson put in a dye some weeks ago to identify the leak, and then came to repair the broken coil.

Looking for a new company to perform annual service/inspection of furnace and centrall A/C since Columbia Gas of MA no longer does this service. When I called I was told that Wilson does not provide this service in my area (about 8-10 miles from where I live). So, if you live in South Hadley, MA, don't waste your time calling Wilson.

Thanks for your honesty; we are not able to take on new customers when temperatures are in the 90s. We have a very small service staff. In very hot weather and very cold weather we routinely turn down new clientele . Our business model is "service what we sell (install)". I hope you can find someone to take care of your system.

They were professional, responsive in an e-mail and showed up on time. They did great work, gave good advice on options and the benefits of the different systems we talked about, they were really good.
Description of Work: We used Gary Wilson from Wilson Services Inc. for a new heating system.

I did not use Wilson Service for the job.
Description of Work: I called requesting a service call to repair a shower/tub diverter. I was informed that the plumber was out on a bigger job and availability was limited. Due to my scheduling constraints we were not able to set a time. I would call Wilson's again if I had a larger job, but do not think they are the go to people for small repairs.

We were able to get an appointment within a week during the high-season for the industry, which was great. We indicated that due to tight work schedules for both my wife and me, we needed the appointment for a particular time rather than for a window of time. This was promised to us and while we were ultimately happy with the work performed, this promise was not kept. The tech arrived at our home an hour late and we called the business to confirm the appointment after 45 minutes of tardiness. If he couldn't be on time, the company should have informed us as soon as possible. I understand that changes in scheduling can happen, but information is both appreciated and expected. Also, the tech was at our home for about an hour. While $150 for the service is affordable, it strikes me as a bit excessive for an hour of work, with no materials or other extranious costs associated with the visit. Still, I have no complaints about the job performed and would hire the company again for jobs both large and small.
Description of Work: We hired the company to check and prep the AC unit on a newly-purchased home, and to install a modern, previously-purchased thermostat, too. The tech did both jobs fully and quickly. He answered my questions to my satisfaction. He tested air flow, temps, etc for the AC unit after completing the prep work. The unit has worked flawlessly thus far since and we are satisfied. We are also happy to have the new, digital thermostat in place.

Thanks for your honest assessment; I am always working with our staff to do their best not to over-promise. Set times (no window) for appointments are very difficult in the height of the cooling (or heating) season. I will remind our office girls of this.

When we purchased our home two years ago we needed to replace our 100-year-old boiler. We got a few bids, including one from Gary Wilson. We ended up going with another company (which we'll call Company B) mainly because a couple of contractors working in our house recommended them at the time. We quickly became very unhappy with Company B, based on a series of leaks and their general attitude of not taking responsibility for problems. As the leaks and problems continued to recur, we realized that we'd made a big mistake by going with them, and that we needed someone else to take care of our system. I explained the situation to Gary and acknowledged that we were regretful that we didn't go with him to begin with. Gary responded thoughtfully and courteously. We asked if he'd be willing to look over the system and tell us if anything else appeared to be wrong. He came out and looked it all over. He found several problems with how the system was functioning. He is very responsive and a straightforward communicator and offered detailed responses to my questions and actually walked me through the system and showed me what was wrong. I immediately felt comfortable with his level of knowledge; and when there was something he didn't know, he quickly called the company and found out what he needed to know. We are very happy with the work Gary did for us, and we feel very relieved, knowing that now we have someone reliable and professional to call on.

Thank you for the kind words, I was happy to take care of the boiler becasue you were very respectful of the past (giving the original installation to another firm). Your politeness made the difference. Thanks!
