I was impressed by how thorough he was in looking over my house and considering options for where a 3/4 bath could be added. When he checked the basement to see how pipes could be connected up, he identified several problems with possible options, and came up with a feasible solution. I don't think an architect would have so quickly ruled out potential plans that would not have worked in reality. It was very helpful, and eye-opening, to receive a cost estimate for the addition. Due to the cost, I have postponed this project, but the plans I received were an excellent start, and I think I could work with him in the future to refine those plans to something more in line with what I envisioned.
Description of Work: For $99, I received a plan for an addition to my house, including a cost estimate.

I went out twice and spoke extensively with [Member name removed] on all of her options for an old crumbling basement ceiling. Also reviewed options for door and window replacement. Provided 2 estimates for the work in a timely fashion.

Initially I expected much more than what I actually got for the money. However, talked with about 6 additional contractors and their plan was very useful in explaining what we were looking for. However, I live a little too far away, and they stated up front that they don't make out to my area very often. Not a problem. Since this is a complete kitchen remodel with an addition, I need a company who focuses on my area. The Curtis Group appears to be a professional organization, if you're local (to their company) give them a shot and see how it goes.

It was okay and we got what were paid for. What I didn’t like was that it wasn’t very engaging, and they didn’t give me a lot of ideas. I felt very rushed and they were not very forthcoming with their own ideas. Once they had the plan it was very detailed and specific. They got the plan back to me pretty quickly, in just a couple of days.

It was okay. He didn't charge me any additional aside from the big deal purchase. It went perfectly fine. He used his software to fix the measures and looked it in. The fact that he showed up when I called and the fact that he was responsive and the fact that he did what he said he was going to do is fine. It was adequate. He completed what was requested or what was promised. There was nothing special I would say that he did out of the ordinary. He responded to the phone calls. He made an appointment and he showed up. He did the measurements and generated a plan. I decided to not move forward.

Scott Curtice visited our house and to talk with us about potential ways of remodeling our kitchen and to estimate the costs for the construction. After some very useful discussion, Scott suggested that we could "remove a closet" and re-locate a bathroom to gain space for our kitchen. This would probably be the least costly option. During our discussions, Scott provided us with tremendous amounts of information. Some of the topics included cost options for kitchen cabinets, including buying cabinets from Ikea, the impact the new "stretch code" would have on the project. After our discussions, Scott thoroughly measured the inside and outside dimensions of our house and would let us know when he had plans to review along with proposed costs for the construction. Scott returned to our house about a week later with a set of detailed plans and a proposed cost. He had prepared 3 different options for us to review. We did not decide to go forward with the project at this time, but we found Scott to be very professional throughout the entire process. He offered many useful suggestions to help us formulate our thoughts about the project. We hope to be able to use Scott's services in the future and would not hesitate to recommend him.

For $150, this was a very good deal as I'm sure it took much more of Scott and team's time than the money paid for. The estimate was very detailed, and reflected what I asked for (meaning he thought it through, and didn't just throw the boiler plate at me). His design suggestions were very helpful. He suggested some things that we hadn't thought about regarding bathroom layout options, given some tough space constraints. He was very professional throughout the entire process, on time, and delivered exactly what he said he would when he said it. Once I get done with the planning and am looking for final estimates, I will definitely be included Scott Curtice in my list.
Description of Work: Took advantage of AngieList 'Big Deal' that Scott offered which included drawings and detailed cost estimate spreadsheet for a home addition. I had two projects in mind, and Scott was very accommodating and completed estimates and drawings for both, a sunroom / porch and a master bath renovation.

The Curtice Group was reasonably responsive and came out and spoke to us about our renovation needs. We met two weeks later to go over his finding and look at his "plan" for our renovation. The plan was Ok and a good starting point to use when thinking through this project, however his estimate was significantly higher than the next highest contractor bidding on our project.

Scott's team did a great job with our basement remodel. The cost did come in about $10k above the initial estimate but that was due to some additional work to meet with codes, etc. We are very happy with how everything turned out.

I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal Promotion ($149) for a basement remodeling consultation/plan in 2012 to obtain a design and plan for refinishing a basement into an office/den. I sent an email to the Curtice Group after purchasing the Big Deal and received a prompt reply from owner Scott Curtice. We scheduled an appointment for Mr. Curtice to meet with us a few days later and take measurements. Mr. Curtice arrived promptly and was very courteous. He seemed very knowledgable and spent time talking with us about what we had in mind and took measurements . A few days later he sent us a computer drawing and project estimate which was what we had paid for when we purchased the Big Deal. I told Scott that I would contact him after we had received a few other estimates if we decided to go with his design and plan. Scott was very nice and seemed knowlegeable. We were satisifed with this Angie's List Big Deal since he provided a design plan and met with us as expected. In the end we went with another firm's design that better suited our needs for this project but the Curtice Group met our expectations for the Big Deal we purchased.

Scott Curtice was extremely prompt, pleasant, and professional in all our dealings--he rescheduled his visit to suit my schedule. What was extra great was his willingness to think creatively with us about how to plan a basement remodel to fit our budget. Specifically, he had some great suggestions about how we could do it in stages: we could pour a concrete floor, finish the walls, and spray-paint the ceiling and ductwork to make a playroom for the kids. And while the walls were still open, he recommended roughing in the plumbing for a bathroom, which could then be finished (making a future in-law suite) when we had saved enough. Unfortunately, it turns out that our basement stairs would need to be redone to make them safe, which would in turn require moving the main plumbing stack for the house, and we don't have the budget for that right now. But when we do, we will definitely be calling the Curtice Group again.

For the Angie's List coupon deal, it was an decent deal for us. There was however nothing new about the remodeling ideas presented for our very challenging house. They were very nice and professional and pretty knowledgeable. I just expected a little more in terms of ingenuity in the ideas generated. Granted, out house is a tough one.

The service was purchased as a Big Deal on Angie's list, hence the "A" rating for price. Mr. Curtice was punctual, professional, and offered other ideas on how we could add the requested additional space in the basement, rather than the deck. We negotiated the time when both my husband and I would be present for the presentation of his report. The report was detailed and itemized with estimates of the cost, but not with estimates of other ideas we might pursue. We have yet to decide on further course of action.

Scott Curtice responded right away and contacted me for an appointment to come to my house. He was prompt and had another young man as an assistant. I explained what I was looking to accomplish without getting into zoning variation issues with the town. He listened carefully, offered some pragmatic suggestions, asked questions and then they measured everything. It took about an hour and 15 minutes or so. Four days later, he contacted me to say that he had a plan for me to see, and made an appointment for the next day. He came on time, alone this time, with his drawings. He was professional, and I felt he was sincere, and I appreciated that he spent so much time with me going over the plans and options within them. The plan made sense and is actually the most sensible solution. After much consideration, I decided that the whole project was much more complicated than I had anticipated (matching roof lines, electrical boxes on the outside wall etc.) and therefore more costly than I had hoped. I decided not to do the project. I would, however, seriously consider The Curtice Group and Scott in another project and I would recommend that someone doing an addition or remodel plan make an appointment to talk with him.
Description of Work: Angie's Big Deal was $149 for a design consultation and plans. I was looking to expand my small garage so that I might actually get my car inside and still have some storage room. My house is a slab ranch with no cellar. Scott Curtice responded right away to my purchase of the Big Deal. He came to my house, listened to what I had in mind, added some pragmatic suggestions and returned again 5 days later with a design drawing to discuss with me.

Scott showed up on time on his first visit. The second time, he was running a bit late and called to let us know that. The meeting went fine. He listened to what we wanted to do: remodel the master bedroom and bath. We are not opposed to building out for an addition if it makes sense and gives us what we want. Scott took measurements of the entire house on the first visit, and came up with one design that did not include building out. It is a good design and gives us lots to think about that we had not considered previously. The design would also be more cost effective as it would not include a new foundation, etc. Scott was professional, empathetic and really seems to knows building. We are still in the evaluation stage and have not made a decision on which direction to go. I would recommend Scott to those looking to remodel as he brings good ideas to the table and listens to you and your needs. Overall, it was worth the $149 spent.
Description of Work: Scott came out and looked at our remodeling project. We originally called him to put together a proposal and he offered the $149 measure and one design service. We thought it was a good idea to get some initial thoughts on the project.
