I highly recommend the Curtice Group. Scott is very professional, shows up when he says he will, responsive, and knowledgeable. The project manager assigned to our project, Carl, was professional, courteous, on time, reliable, had attention to detail and did a great job. The cost was reasonable compared to other quotes we received. I can't say enough nice things about these guys.
Description of Work: new deck, new doors, insulation in attic and basement
It went beautifully. The construction manager, Carl, was completely on top of everything and a superb craftsmen in his own right Scott, the company owner, and Carl communicated extremely well about the work progress and promptly addressed any concerns we had. The hired subcontractors were all highly skilled. We were regularly sent a spread sheet documenting work and expenses. In short, everything was done in a timely manner and with complete professionalism. Most importantly, we loved the final product!
Highly recommend Scott. The process was smooth and the result beautiful. His workers are so easy to work with. Enjoyed having them here and I completely trust them. His plumbers helped us with the gas transition and it was seamless - they are very high quality.

We chose to bid out a project on our new home by bringing in 5 contractors to give us quotes. We purposely did not reveal what our budget was because we wanted to give each of them a chance to come in at a fair number to both us and them. The Curtice Groups photos online were really lovely. To be fair, I was skeptical at first if this would be a good match, which proved true. My fiance and I had already designed our own floor plan drawings, chosen all of our appliances, and even had the granular details of what finishes we wanted. I think this is probably a selling point of the Curtice Group for those that don't have the same design capabilities we were already bringing to the table. Scott was very responsive via email and was handily the first person who got back to us with a quote which I did respect. I will say that I'm stunned by the number of people on here who feel like The Curtice Group earned an A on pricing. The quote came in at $358,000. Now that the project is nearing completion, the work we requested was achievable (with amazing quality of execution) within the budget we had set ($250,000). The Curtice Group came in by far the highest of the 5 contractors we took bids from. Additionally, Scott put a lot of pressure on us to do additional work within the scope of this project that we knew we couldn't afford - such as insulating the whole home and replacing all the windows even though the windows were double panes. When we sat down with him to negotiate where cuts could be made to his estimate, I felt he was rather rude to us when we discussed cutting certain things (I specifically remember him pushing back saying he couldn't do the project if we weren't going to insulate the whole home, when that really wasn't HIS decision to make). He also charges his clients to staff a full time project manager on the job plus also 15% overhead on top of EVERYTHING (including the project manager salary). When you try to negotiate with him about why 15% needs to be added to things like appliances when you're ordering all of your own appliances, he gets defensive about how he will still have to manage some portion of appliances etc etc. There were several examples of this. I just felt like he was trying to gouge us at every turn when it came to the way he was charging & the way he kept pushing to expand project scope, and I knew immediately that he was not flexible enough for us to work with. The final example of this was when he sent us a second quote to just create drawings that could pass an inspection for a new staircase we were building. The contractor we hired promptly rejected the idea of us paying anything extra for them and he built them to code just by looking at the space. Frankly, at the end of the day there was no way we could even afford what Scott Curtice was pressuring us to execute and he seemed rather judgmental that we couldn't make the extra $100K materialize out of thin air (as though $250K was just this meager budget to begin with). Maybe The Curtice Group is better suited for someone adding an addition or building a new home, and they are better, as I said, for people who just have no design ideas. I would just caution anyone taking on a project of this size to make sure they bid it out to make sure you're getting the best price for the work being done. I do not agree with The Curtice Groups A pricing and feel Scott lacked professionalism when trying to negotiate.
I will submit a more detailed review upon job completion (end of April ‘18) but so far Scott and his team - especially the project manager assigned to our job, Brian - have been fantastic. Detailed, accurate cost estimates, craftsmanship, excellent sub-contractors. I can’t say enough positive things. I received many lower bids, but feel confident that Scott and Brian have made recommendations that more than offset the “higher” bid differential. Plus our job is looking fantastic!
Description of Work: Remodel turned into gut rehab
Scott and his crew Chet and Matt were fantastic. We were on a tight timeline with a baby on the way. We also stayed in the house during the renovation. They showed up everyday on time. They kept things clean/neat with minimal dust. They were efficient, but also really committed to making sure the work was done right and looked nice. Several times they helped us to make the right decisions when we were on the fence about how to do things like leveling our floors since our house is old. They tied the new addition in really well with the rest of our house and gave us helpful tips on how to stay on budget since our budget wasn't huge for the size of the project. We went with Ikea cabinets but added things like higher end drawer pulls and molding to make it look nicer. During the project we got a detailed itemized estimate and timeline with regular updated actual costs. When speaking to friends who did similar renovations they did not get any of this. We came in right on budget and we are loving our new space!

We are very happy with the result of this project, which took 5 months to complete. Scott Curtice, the job foreman, and all of the subcontractors who worked on the project were highly skilled and easy to have in our home, which was important since we lived in during the project. They were able to find good solutions to any problems that came up and were completely honest and straightforward to do business with.
Description of Work: We needed to extend the first floor of our house to add a mudroom, bathroom, as well as to fully remodel and update our kitchen, dining area, front hall, and backyard access steps and decks.

Scott is very professional and gave us the advise we needed, although we couldn't do the work, he was very detailed and help us understand the pros and cons. Very knowledgeable and reliable.
Under budget and on time, with courteous professionals. Can't get any better.
Description of Work: Scott and his team did a number of jobs for us. For the last one, we redid the lay-out of our first floor. He put in a mudroom, redid a kitchen, put in a new deck and double doors and moved around some built-ins.

Overall, the project went fabulously. This is the second major project and fourth project overall that I have had the Curtice Group complete in seven years (the first major project in 2009, was a bathroom installation on the third floor). Scott has always been professional, courteous, communicative, and detailed down to the line items in his budget. He is up front about his limitations, including his personal availability and any issues he is encountering on the timeline. I tell people that over the years, Scott's success has made him less inclined to be immediately available for smaller projects. But, I highly recommend him to anyone willing to wait or wanting work at a very high standard for a fair cost. The Curtice Group seems to always price reasonably and best of all, meet his estimate with very modest adjustments that are agreed upon in advance. I ran into minor communication issues finishing the basement, that then got satisfactorily resolved with agreeability with the project manager. Throughout each project, and (impressively afterwards the last check was cut), Scott made himself or his team available for relevant and fair questions that came up. For example, I emailed Scott last fall about a plumbing issue with the new water heater leaking badly. Within an hour, I had a phone call from Scott. Then, I had a phone call from Wayne (the plumber) who resolved the issue the very next day. The only reason Wayne didn't show up that day is that it was Sunday, and I didn't feel the urgency required a Sunday visit, even though to his credit Scott offered the option if the situation required it. On a day to day basis, the comings and goings of Scott and his team members have always been respectful, efficient, and tidy. The same goes for the beginning and completion of the project. I have never felt that there was work left undone, and all communication has been straightforward and punctual.
Description of Work: The Curtice Group created a finished recreational room out of the majority of my unfinished basement, and installed new systems, and improvements to the unfinished space. The prep work involved cleaning out the existing oil furnace and accumulated storage units that preceded our moving in. The recreational room is carpeted and has two new windows, recessed lighting, and electrical heat along one wall. For the unfinished space, Scott installed a new gas furnace and new duct work, tankless water heater, small exit door, and made flooring and wall improvements.
As noted, we've used Scott's team for several projects and each one has come out great. He and his team are talented professionals who do beautiful work. Scott's pricing and accounting are open and honest, and he is very responsive if there is ever a question or concern. We love working with these guys and will continue to use them for our project in the future.
Description of Work: Scott and his team have done a number of projects for us in the past two years, these include a remodeled master bedroom, a remodeled bathroom and a rebuilt porch. We found Scott because the previous owners had used his team to do a fantastic remodel on the basement. Scott has always given us good, pragmatic advice on our projects, and guided the work very successfully

It was ok. Plans with options were presented as promised. He took his time going through what we wanted and took pictures. His proposed prices were bit high, and there was some pressure to sign up to have the work done. At times, I wish he was more responsive to my needs. There were a couple of pieces of the project that we wanted that were ignored. Overall, he did a good job and I am sure his work is good but just not for us.

Scott Curtice did himself the designing of our remodeling after listening to our "needs and wants"...which involved tearing down a bearing wall to open the kitchen into the family room and relocating a small bathroom. We wanted an open concept type of kitchen with a lot of storage space...and Scott came up with a plan bringing us all of the above. Scott organized the different appointments to go and help us chose appliances, cabinetry, granite slab and tiles which made the all process for us relatively stress free! On a regular basis, he would email us a summary of the expenses of the past week(s) which allowed us to see where we stood compare to the initial cost estimate. Chet was the person directly responsible with our remodeling and was very professional and reliable, detail oriented, attentive to our opinion, creative if a problem arose, and a wonderful person to interact with. All the subcontractors who came to our house were also very professional and pleasant to deal with. We were told that the job would be done in three month and to our surprise it was done in exactly that time frame!!! We also stayed pretty close to the initial quote Scott gave us initially (we were slightly above, just because we added some work as we went along ). We are VERY happy with the results. We would definitely call Scott and his group back if we need more work!

It was good, but not great. We went into this Big Deal planning to get plans, and not start any actually work for a little while. Still, we seemed to get quite a bit of pressure to get the construction kicked off. Also, the plans that were drafted didn't take into account a lot of things we had been discussing in the consultation (e.g. we'd expressed a lot of concern about losing lake views from one of our bedrooms. Yet the plans given to us put a window-less closet in the one spot that had the best lake views). Scott was willing to update the plans with our concerns, but now we were going to be charged as apparently the Big Deal only covered the first draft. Overall we got a good impression and Scott seemed to know what he was doing. But I was a little disappointed our requests weren't taken into account the first time and the Big Deal did not seem to cover any revisions.

Scott was a professional, easy to work with, and a genuinely nice guy. Scott is knowledgeable and i trust his judgment. OI would highly recommend Scott to anyone.
Description of Work: Scott looked at my home, made measurements, and advised me that for my property it was better to knock it down and build a new house rather than an addition. I believe he said this not to do extra work, but rather based on the real economics of the situation. Scott checked with the town to see what was possible and then prepared a floor plan for the new house. Scott was very thorough.

Scott and his team were exceptional. For a sizable project, one that put us out of a kitchen for more than a month, they were incredibly successful at making the experience livable, keeping us fully informed about the progress and scheduling, moving the work along quickly, staying within the original budget and - not least of all - performing outstanding work. Our house is like brand new. And we owe a great deal of the aesthetic choices to great recommendations from Scott and his team.

The technician was so nice. He came out and took a look at the scope of the job. He was very honest and let us know he would not be able to do the project. He recommended we go with a different company for the job. We were looking to completely remodel some rooms of the home. It was a very large project for a small crew. Scott was very prompt and courteous in setting up our appointment, walking through our basement space with us, and then providing a plan and estimate for the work. We knew exactly what we wanted to do with the space, and from our discussion on that and the measurements he took, Scott created a drawing that represented exactly what we envisioned. He did a great job with everything and I had every confidence he could do the project well, but in the end his price was a fair bit higher than other quotes so we ended up going with another contractor.

Scott provided a very thorough plan and pricing estimate, 2 weeks after an on-site meeting and taking measurements of the house. His plan included several new ideas for improving our existing house's layout, that no one else had thought of. A lot of thought went into this plan. This deal was a good value considering the amount of detail that went into the plan.
