Services we offer
Commercial and residential building construction, carpentry, home improvements, renovations or restorations, design reviews, project management & scheduling, kitchens, baths, additions, & remodels.
The partners who own and operate RL Rogers are complete professionals. They performed exceptional work. They were also polite and on time. In addition, they kept us fully informed of the work as it progressed and any issues that came up. Whenever something came up they gave us options and were very clear about costs - something that not a lot of contractors do. Their sub-contractors were also top-notch. Last, whenever there was a very messy day (after demolition for example) they made sure that they or a separate cleaning crew came through and cleaned up so that the mess we had to live with was minimized.
Description of Work: Complete demolition and rebuild of our kitchen.

I purchased my coupon in Jan. 2013. In January, I called for an appointment and was scheduled for April 25th. Rusty Rogers came to our home (on time) and discussed our project with us. He was friendly and helpful. What we wanted was to remodel just our shower, nothing else. He made suggestions that we liked very much and gave me a website to check out for seeing what other homeowners had done with similar projects. We never heard from Rogers again. I started calling in September to find out what was going on, and was informed by a very pleasant woman Jen that they had been overwhelmed by the business generated by the Angie's list offer and she apologized for the delay. She informed me that our work didn't require plans as such, but that she believed our estimate was ready, and she'd get it out to me by the end of the week. Two weeks later, no plans. I called again, she said pretty much the same, they'd be sent to me shortly. A few weeks and emails later, I finally got the estimate on October 8. It seemed high to me, but I need to confirm that by getting competing estimates, which I will. Hopefully, this will not take an additional 9 months! As to whether I would use RL Rogers, I don't know. I really enjoyed interacting with both Rusty and Jen when I dealt with them. The "C" I gave them for responsiveness stems from the fact that after April appointment I never heard from them again until I called them in September. Also, the estimate was delivered weeks after it was promised. Jen personally earns an "A" in responsiveness because she promptly got back to me via phone or email when I contacted her, but the "C" is for the overall experience. The "F" for punctuality also is for the 9 months (6, if you count from April) it took to do this simple thing. These things give me pause in considering to use them again. If I find that their price is competitive, I may, simply because I liked them so much on a personal level, but I would have to be sure they are actually available to start and complete my job in a reasonable time frame.
Description of Work: I purchased a coupon for bathroom remodeling plans. Rogers let me know that the work I wanted done didn't really require a plan, so what I ended up with was a cost estimate for the work.

We are planning to do a major kitchen renovation. We have never done any renovations, so we thought this coupon deal would be a good place to start. Things went well initially. We had trouble getting an appointment, because their office manager was out. But, Rusty came to our house just to make contact and get a basic idea of what we wanted. He said that his office manager would call us to set up an appointment with the kitchen designer. It was all down hill after that. After multiple calls and emails about the designer, the company finally sent email stating that "they could not fulfill the obligation of the coupon deal". We purchased a similar $99 deal with another company. They came out within a week and sent the plan and estimate a few days later. If you can't meet your obligations, then you shouldn't do a coupon deal. It was a waste of our time.

The provider was too overwhelmed by the Angies list response and could not fulfill the "big deal." So after a few months sent another kitchen design company who was not affiliated with R.L. Rogers. They did in fact get us a set of plans but not until July 12. I purchased the coupon on January 13th.

Never heard from RL Rogers after initial visit to measure bathroom. I did not feel that the contractor was interested in the job during the initial visit. I was told at the time that they were very busy and it would take several weeks to get the drawing. I did not pursue this but feel lke I should have received the measurements that I paid for. Angie's List.....do you offer refunds?
Description of Work: This was a deal offered by Angie's list for a kitchen or bathroom measurement for remodeling. Deal offered in January; waited until beginning of March for measurements. Measurements were taken but I never received anything from this company.

I contacted him regarding the services and we set up an appointment. He said he would come to my home and perform the initial inspection to look over the space and make sure there were no other problems and to make sure that my deisgn plans would be able to be implemented. He then got me into contact his contractor. I was pleased with the overall design and plans, it just took a long time to get them and to get them accurately measured.

I bought the Angies List Deal in December 2012. Russell came to my house in April to take measurements in my bathroom. I did not mind the long wait to get an appointment because I was not in a hurry. Russell was very nice and professional. The wait time before I received the plans was what went wrong, in my opinion. Initially I was told it would take about 2 weeks to get. the plans. I finally received them in July. Again, the long wait time really wasn't the issue, but the lack of response when I emailed the company was an issue. I think communication is key - very important to me. Even though Russell was knowledgable and the plans were fine, I wouldn't hire anyone who doesn't respond in a timely manner. I told the woman who answers the phone when you call the company number that I was disappointed in the lack of response. She apologized and said that they were very busy having sold so many Angies List Deals. Perhaps, if they run this special again, they will cap the amount sold in order to provide better service.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal. It was good. We got the plans for the bathroom design but I thought it was more different. It was not exactly what I was looking for. We should have made more research on what we wanted. I was waiting for someone to tell me what I should do. He came twice, he was very nice, but I was not surprised or amazed by the design process and the job. He worked a lot but the design process for me was missing a design advice. He came out with a price on what was to be done and it was too expensive.

We liked Russell on a personal level. He seemed to have a good idea of what work needed to be done and how we could provide the best canvas for the designer. And when his initial estimate came back higher than we were expecting, he offered to take steps to see how he could bring it down. Our biggest concern (and the real show-stopper) was his tardiness. We expect a GC to be on top of his game, for if he can't show up on time, how can we expect him to keep the work on track. On two separate occasions, he showed up more than 30 minutes after the time he'd confirmed that morning he would be arriving. He never called to say he'd be late. And he didn't apologize for being late. On the second occasion, he was also having an electrician and plumber come with him. The electrician ended up just sitting around in his car because he also hadn't heard from Russell. And we found out later the plumber wasn't going to be able to make it that day after all. We were thrilled with the designer he connected us with. But that should be a different review. But since the designer did all the plans, I wondered a little bit what we were actually paying Russell to do. Every other time I've gotten an estimate from a contractor, there was no charge.
Description of Work: $99 Big Deal for a kitchen renovation and full plans. RL Rogers Co did consultation on what construction work might need to be done, but all of the designs were done by another kitchen company. The only plans provided were the designs from the kitchen company.

There are 2 parts to this review. The first part is a review of RL Rogers who did the bathroom design, and the second is of Tricia McInnis from Cape Ann Kitchens in Stoneham who did the kitchen design. 1. RL Rogers: My experience with RL Rogers was average. I tried to schedule an appointment with RL Rogers several times but their voice mailbox was full most of the time so I couldn't leave a message. When I was able to leave a message, they didn't call me back. I finally was able to reach Russ Rogers one Saturday and scheduled an appointment. He came to my house and made some suggestions for my bathroom that involved moving a window as well as the toilet and sink. We talked about moving the washer and dryer into the room, but I changed my mind and gave him some guidelines in a follow-up email. He said response to his offer had been significant and that he was running several weeks behind schedule so wouldn't be able to get the drawings to me for a while. I told him that wasn't a problem because I wasn't ready to take action right away. Three months later I finally received the plans, but they did not include any pricing information. I emailed requesting an estimate, but I never received a response. 2 Cape Ann KitchensMy experience with owner Tricia McInnis was very positive She contacted me by email to set up an appointment, came and spent well over an hour discussing options and taking measurements. While it took 2 months to get my plans, they were detailed and thoughtful, and came with a descriptive email and prices for the cabinets and countertops. She attached 8 drawings, showing a front elevation for each section of the kitchen as well as a drawing from the top down. I emailed her several questions, and she responded to all of the questions overnight. She also offered to have her contractor estimate the entire job if I wanted her to. I hope I will be able to implement this design because I feel she gave me the best option possible within the limitations of the room (a smallish space with 5 doors and 2 windows).
Description of Work: I bought 2 coupons - 1 for a bathroom design and one for a kitchen design. Russ Rogers, who offered the Big Deal performed the bathroom analysis and subcontracted the kitchen design to a colleague (Tricia McInnis from Cape Ann Kitchens). They each came to my home, looked at the space, discussed options with me, then gave me a set of drawings. The kitchen designer also gave me a rough cost estimate for the cabinets and countertops.

I had to track down the kitchen designer for the plans -- she finally sent them to me and the 2 designs weren't that much different than what already exists. Apparently there wasn't alot of attention to detail -- she even had gas appliances when gas doesn't exist in the kitchen.

Nothing wrong with the layout and sketching. She did a good job and had good ideas - better than most. Got blown off for the follow up quote. Guess they were just too busy or didn't want the job. That's about all that is worth writing.

Purchased the 99 deal for set of plans for kitchen remodel. Rusty came out within a week of calling to go over the scope of work I needed done. He actually stayed for over an hour going over options and ideas (That alone is more than $99.) He was very informative and had some great input. I was interested in a complete kitchen gut along with mud room . He then set me up with my first cabinet designer and received my plans within a week. I was still in limbo with that designer. He then set me up with Trisha who was very informative and basically came up with some additional ideas that added to rustys and mine. Overall I was pleased with them and they did a fine job for the 99 dollar deal. Yes he is busy but expect that when you buy a deal. With that being said , In March i have hired Rl Rogers to do my kitchen / mudroom renovation. We are about one-third thru the renovation and things are on schedule. The sub-contactors he hires for the job are also very professional and experienced . If I did not feel 100 % about something they fixed it until I was. They came to work on time (7am) which was a plus.they where also accommodating to my children and pets throughout the 10 week renovation. The job is now complete and overall I am very satisfied with the work . Of course we had some surprises with the structure of the house being built in the 40s but Rusty and Wayne came up with permanent fixes. I would recommend Rl Rogers for all your remodeling ideas.

We waited several weeks for the designer to call and finally when she did we had to delay the visit for a couple of months. The designer was from a Kitchen design company in Stoneham. She listened to our thoughts on expanding the space into our Dining Room and changing our Mud Room around, took detailed measurements and said she would be back to us in a week or so with a plan for us to look at. THAT WAS THE LAST WE'VE HEARD FROM HER OR ROGERS! I've emailed her several times and left messages for her to get an update on progress but as of today, have not heard from either them. Don't waste your money on this deal if it comes up again! There are lots of Kitchen places that will come and consult with you for free to get the job.
Description of Work: We bought the "Big Deal" for $99 which was supposed to give us a plan for a remodeled Kitchen. R. L. Rogers came out for the initial visit in February, which consisted of him looking at our space and hearing how we wanted to expand the Kitchen area. He didn't take any measurements or jot down anything about our needs and wants. He said he would have his Kitchen Designer contact us to take measurements and provide a design for us to consider.

The contractor that came is the business owner. He assessed the kitchen structure, and listened to our thoughts and discussed the possibilities. Clearly experienced, listened closely and closely evaluated the structure. He spent about an hour. No estimate was expected and none given. The kitchen designer is a separate contractor. She came several weeks later and discussed our thoughts and budget and made measurements. Though she said it might be a few weeks before the design was finished, it was almost 6 weeks. She was apologetic. The design was adequate. But I would have liked a bit of narrative regarding placement of the appliances. My sense was she was used to higher end work. I think we got what we paid for and plan to ask the contractor for a specific estimate, and use the design with some modifications.
Description of Work: Contractor gave a structural assessment and discussed ideas in general. The separate kitchen designer came later and several weeks later sent a kitchen design

The consultation and the plan turned out okay. I didn't ask for more than he gave me. I asked another contractor to come in and I like this contractor better, his follow-up was better. I was probably overwhelmed with the "Big Deal". I didn't pursue on using them because of some lock follow-up and I think it would be okay but I interviewed another contractor who struck me as even more reliable so I choose that contractor. RL Rogers Co was not unreliable they didn't do a bad job and they did follow thorough but I just choose somebody else who I like better.

I bought it in November, but we didn't actually get the plans until the end of March. He was overwhelmed with a number of people buying the deal, so it took kind of a long time to get the plans to us. The service was good and the plans were fine. There was one mistake that was readily fixed. The plans were good, but the biggest issue I had was that it took so long because he didn't have enough help and he didn't respond to be overwhelmed by going out and hiring so more people. He just sifted through the offers and sifted through the mass of the requests, but I didn't pay anything extra and they completed it. They gave us what we asked for and what they gave us was good quality. I also felt that the price was fine. We actually were considering using him as the contractor, but we're not going to do that because he never got back to us on that end of things although that didn't have anything to do with the deal. I would use him again, but with the caveat being that I would double check to see how busy he is. I would make sure he is available and had the time, but I wouldn't wait for him again.

This seemed to be a very popular deal for RL Rogers. It took some effort to find a good time slot on Saturday April 13th. Unfortunately, at the last minute RL Rogers cancelled the appointment and we ended up rescheduling for May 20th. On May 20th, the contractor came on time and stated they he will first have a look and then come back. Very quickly he advised us that this would be a major work and that we would need and architect and engineer and that their work is limited to making some plans/layouts. He promised that he will send us the contact information of an architect the next morning so that we can start the process. We have never heard back from him. The whole thing took less than 15 minutes. Our feeling is that this deal was some kind of mass scam for RL Rogers to get some new clients. Once they had enough clients they sent someone for less than 15 minutes to have a quick look and pretend that they honored the deal. I waited for 2 weeks to see if they will at least get back to us with the promised information before entering the review. It didn't happen. We are very disappointed with this deal. We would like Angie's list to refund our money back. I had much better input from contractors on how to redesign our kitchen for free. Angie's list should also do some pre-screening of these deals. Otherwise, Groupon would make more sense if we have to expect this unprofessionalism.

Response from RL Rogers Co
We are very sorry that this much time has lapsed before responding. The project you have is way out of the scope of work we do, you will require Architects and Engineers. The architect that we were putting you in touch with was on vacation and honestly we had misplaced the info to send to him once he returned. This was an honest mistake but we had not heard from you at all until this review that we had forget to connect you with them. Please accept our apology and contact us if you still have any interest in their info. This is not a simple bathroom design and we hope to hear from you soon.
