Glenn was our inspector. He showed up on time and was very thorough. He explained all the different things he was looking at, potential problems, etc. Once inside, he went through every room, testing lights/electric/appliances/etc. Of particular use was his inspection of the heating system. He explained a few potential hazards as it originated from 1968 (the same age of the house). I was concerned with the quality of workmanship on the property since it was a flip but Glenn made a point to say that of all the flipped houses he's seen this one was in good shape. After the inspection, i got a detailed pdf that summarized his findings within 24 hours. Overall I am very pleased with their service!

Frank was already there and had started taking notes when I arrived at the scheduled time. He took his time examining every aspect of the house. He was very helpful answering questions and also added insight into areas that were not officially put in the report. After the inspection, Frank emailed a detailed report merely a few hours later.

I need to break this down into three sections; 1) Front office staff, 2) the inspector and 3) the report. 1) The front office staff, Teresa especially, but Karen as well were absolutely phenomenal to work with. They were professional, friendly, empathetic and most of all focused on meeting the customer's (my) needs. In this very high stress situation, they listened to my situation and then worked hard to find solutions that worked for me; all with great attitudes. They were also very knowledgeable of real estate, Veteran's administration considerations and the inspection process. I really can't say enough to endorse their work. 2) My inspector Frank was clearly knowledgeable. He was also very professional and friendly. He pointed out several things that we are asking the sellers to address before we proceed with our purchase. He also identified things that while not issues regarding our purchase of the property will be on our list of projects for our 5 year plan for the house. Having been through 3 home inspections in the last couple years, I have to say there were a couple of things I would have expected to see that I didn't. I didn't remember this until afterward, but on prior inspections the inspector filled the bath tubs. In doing this they timed how long it took water to go from cold to hot in a 2 story home, how long it took to fill, the function of the drain stopper and the speed with which the tub emptied. Frank didn't do that. The other thing I thought was strange is he didn't use a digital camera to photograph any of his findings. While I was very comfortable with his competence and the quailty of the inspection, these two items are worth noting. 3) The report was obviously completely text because there were no digital images to upload. Several parts of it were clearly "boiler plate" cut and pasted from past inspections. For example, there was a recurring comment about the greenery blocking clear view of the siding and exterior making it difficult to evaluate the entirety of the exterior. However, I don't recall any part of the siding that wasn't visible. I understand the use of stock verbiage and "copy and paste," but the verbiage around the actual findings we discussed during the inspection was, in my view, a bit sparse. Bottom line, I was thrilled that the front office staff was so helpful and accommodating. I believe I got a competent, capable inspection and I wish the report itself had been more robust and included digital images to help job my memory on the issues addressed.
Description of Work: After having a different inspector fail to show up, I scrambled back to Angies List to find Jackson H.I. They were able to schedule Frank for the following morning for a home inspection that I wanted done on a 34 year old house.

had used jackson home inspection four years ago. send in request for a new inspection via their website over the weekend. on sunday received email back giving me possible times and dates. as soon as i heard from the real estate agents that they could do they confirmed the appointment. inspector was there when i got there (about 10 minutes early) we had a top to bottom and bottom to top inspection of the property and grounds that lasted about 2 1/2 hours. the report was in my hands about three hours after the inspection was complete in electronic format (pdf file delivered to my email). the inspector described what he was seeing in terms that i could understand. he was both professional and friendly. in addition i have an offer to use him as a telephone consultant if i act on any of the items he indicated. would highly recommend.
Description of Work: home inspection on older house (1860). individual who performed inspection was extremely knowledgable on older homes. report was incredibly prompt. i had it only a few hours after the inspection was complete. inspector was prompt (he actually got there an hour before the appointment just to get a sense of the property. would highly recommend this company.

I've worked with a few home inspection companies in the past and here's the thing about Jackson Home Inspection, Inc. They are NOT the cheapest if that's what you only care about. BUT, you do get your money's worth and more because their inspectors are very knowledgeable (my friend has used Frank Deveau several times and recommended him to me). I talked to Frank a bit about his line of work and he told me yesterday during our home inspection he does something like 700 inspections a year and for his first 25 years he worked 7 days a week. He keeps up to date with new materials, technology, trends and best practices for keeping a home safe, up to date and modern with the latest technologies (boilers, tankless heaters, roof ventilation, etc). We had a 2 family house inspected yesterday which had about 3,000 sq ft of living space and a detached garage. Frank went through all the detals of explaining what certain problems were, why it happened and options of fixing them. One example is how there is grass around the house and he pointed out that is a major problem because water/ice melting will go down and go into the foundation and basement especially since the grass was sloping down towards the basement. He said one option if you the budget for it is to remove the grass, have a masonry guy do concrete all around and sloping away from the house and to make sure it is sealed tightly otherwise cracks can let water in. The alternative option which is much cheaper is to hire a landcaper to change the current slope direction so that it goes away from the house rather than towards the house. Another example is that in the basement he found small traces of asbestos on some of the piping which he warned us that meant it was done unprofessionally and we should take caution because there would be asbestos particles in the basement and we shouldn't just simply sweep up or vacuum all the dust/dirt in the basement. He pointed out that if asbestos was professionally removed, he wouldn't even be able to see a tiny bit (like a pebble) of asbestos on the pipes. This was not only very helpful to ensuring my famiily's safety, but will also help me bring this to the seller's attention as we finalize the price of the home for sale once I get a free estimate from the asbestos company my friend recommended as he has used them for 3 or 4 of his houses (S&S Abatement). Frank repeatedly asked me if I had any questions on anything he's been telling me and oh yes, did I ask questions! He also made a good recommendation for where I should install the washer/dryer in the basement (by the water pipe/sewage pipe) so it would be a lot easier to install. There's a lot more I could say but my fingers are getting tired so the last thing I would say is this, Frank and his company Jackson Home Inspection know their stuff! You're not only getting a home inspector to come out to your potential house for an inspection, but you're getting a consultant as they are so knowledgable in repairs, construction, safety, etc. So even if I could have had my home inspection for say $400 by someone else, I'd rather pay the extra $135 for a thorough inspection and consulting services.
Description of Work: Home inspection of a 2 family house with 3 floors and a basement along with a detached garage. Living space in the house is over 3,000 sq ft and built in 1900. Tested water pressure, checked frames/load bearings for the house, lead paint throughout the house including old windows, roof, and a whole lot more. See below for my experience for more details as my fingers are tired now. =)

Ray was our inspector, and was absolutely fantastic. We were able to arrange the appointment on short notice (I called on Friday for a Monday appointment). He arrived early. We immediately started outside where he spent 20-30 minutes examining all aspects of the exterior of the home. We then moved inside where he went directly to the basement--we probably spent at least an hour there looking at every detail of the "guts" of the house. We spent the final 30-45 minutes in the upstairs portion of the home. Throughout, Ray took notes on his laptop, which added a bit to the time of the inspection, but allowed him to send the final report out that evening (just a few hours after we finished). He was extremely detail oriented and very thorough. He answered every question my wife and I had, and was extremely straightforward/honest. He identified a number of problems/issues that we would never have even noticed, including that the oil tank in the home needed to be replaced, which the seller agreed to do as a result of his inspection. He also identified several fire code issues, and provided a number of suggestions on how smaller things needed to be fixed (he is also a contractor). The following day, I called him to follow up with questions and he answered his phone immediately. During the visit he was funny and pleasant, but extremely professional, and didn't let any of us tagging along (the seller's realtor, our realtor, etc.) influence his professional opinion on the problems. He also gave us some references to local companies/contractors, which have all been quite helpful. All in all, I would highly recommend this company in the future (particularly Ray), and plan to use them again the next time I need a home inspection.

On the advise of the realtor, we used Jackson Home inspection. The office staff was delightful and responsive. Glenn was our home inspector and I would never use him again. He had a terrible attitude. He was unprofessional, rude, and curt. He seemed bothered by our being there and was outright annoyed when we had questions along the way. At one point, my father-in-law asked a pretty benign question. Glenn snapped, "let me do my job!" I paid for a home inspection on what might have been the largest and most important purchases in my family's life. I have never heard of a home inspector who was actually annoyed about answering questions by the home buyer paying for the home inspection. The quality of his inspection was mediocre, but not great. There were several deficiencies that he pointed out during the inspection. However, he softened his tone after a brief private conversation with the listing agent (whom he clearly had a business relationship with). He also did not perform the radon testing properly. We had a bad experience with Glenn. We decided against buying this house. If we had, we would have never trusted his report.

Was referred to Jackson by a co-worker whom also had a very good experience with them. Inspector was very thorough, and gave a very detailed report outlining all aspects of the house. Great inspection and good person to talk with and ask questions. Definitely took the time to fully answer and explain every question we asked. He also had a take-no-crap-from-a-realtor attitude and kept the gaggle of buying and selling realtors at bay. Loved it!

Frank came on time (actually a bit earlier to take a look at the surroundings). He checked everything. And i received an electronic detailed report a day later. The price was fair (after I compared several home inspection companies about their services and price) for the work they do and the report they provide (some companies do not provide an electronic copy of the report). I highly recommend their work. By the way, Karen (the receptionist) was very knowledgeable and nice. She kindly answered all my questions.

A friend recommended Jackson inspection to us. We called after hours one evening and my call was returned very promptly the next morning. An appointment was booked for two days later and Glen met us at the house to do an inspection. He was excellent!! Very thorough and pointing out things I never would have thought to look at or thing about in an inspection. It took about 2-3 hours to go through the 2 level 950 square foot home but it truly was time well spent. Glen even got up on the roof to inspect it. It was a very good thing he did because it revealed an issue with wet insulation... after getting a quote from Duffy Roofing (also highly recommend), it turns out the roof needed to be replaced. Had Glen not been persistent about getting up there to check it out, we would have purchased a home not knowing it needed a new roof (about a $6900 expense!). Using Glen's inspection report and the quote from the roofers, we were able to negotiate down the price of the home and have the seller pay the expenses for an electrician to come out and fix other miscellaneous items. When we buy our next home we will be sure to call Jackson and ask for Glen. His inspection was worth every penny! Which, by the way, was very on par with other inspection companies. It was a great value for the money (including the $85 radon test we opted for, the total was $495). I want to add that their back office staff is very nice and responsive as well.

Ray did a very professional home inspection. He arrived a little late but had called to let me know well ahead. He went right to work in a methodical fashion, starting on the outside of the house and then working inside. He identified a major problem plus a handful of smaller things to consider. While he can't put prices on how much repairs will cost, he was able to guide me in what to worry about and what to expect for the work invovled in properly fixing something. He completed the report on a small computer and sent it by email shortly thereafter. He's very pleasant and easy to talk to and makes every effort to answer all questions fully. I would hire him again.
Description of Work: Ray provided a home inspection. Starting with the outside, the roof, and the porches and garage. He examined the basement and then worked his way into the house, ending in the kitchen.

Amazing! Glenn was on time, professional, thorough and explained in detail - everything. Being a first time home-buyer is intimidating enough, Glenn made us feel confident with our purchase after going through the house and giving us the run down of what needed to be addressed. The report was sent to us that evening! And the Radon test results were available right when they said they would be. A week later we found out that we needed to have an FHA pest document filled out as well. Glenn was able to get us that document within 48 hours. I would highly recommend this company!

We are in the process of buying a foreclosed home that is 5 years old, and my realtor recommended Jackson. I was hoping for a weekend appointment so I did not have to take a day off. I called the office about 5 days before to schedule an inspection for a Saturday, and they provided me with a couple of times. It turns out that the seller could not de-winterize the property for Saturday, but the office was flexible enough to schedule an appointment for Sunday instead. I was pleased with that. The inspector arrived slightly ahead of time, brought in his paper work and lap top, and got started. He was very professional and pleasant. He invited me to come along and ask questions. We started outside on the decks and went around the house as he pointed out items to fix. His communication skills were above average. We went inside, and he spent a few minutes making notes on his lap top. We then went to the garage floor (on a slab), and he went through the electrical system, furnace, plumbing, etc. He pointed out more items and allowed me to ask more questions. We then went through the living space where he tested the water, outlets, windows, etc. He was very thorough and professional, and covered everything in detail. The house has a small crawl space for the attich which he went through. I had a few concerns, one being Chinese drywall, as I have heard horror stories about it (although New England has not had much of this reported). By looking at the wires and copper we were able to feel reasonably confident that there was none present. Later on that night I recieved a written report in PDF via email with all of the details we spoek about earlier in the day. In summary this is a very good company with a solid reputation, and I felt comfortable to proceed with our home purchase.

Everything was top-notch. When I called to schedule, they were able to accommodate our first choice of dates, which was later that same week. Ray arrived on time, if not a little early, and immediately began checking around the lot and the house. He was very methodical and extremely thorough in his approach. We started outside, and went over every vent, spout, outlet, and surface around the house, the porch, and the yard. As this was our first home purchase, we had lots of questions; Ray was extremely knowledgeable and patient in explaining everything. He was personable and trustworthy but also consistently professional. Once inside, Ray again had a methodical and thorough approach for inspecting each system and every floor (and room) of the house. He explained how each system (heat, electric, water) worked throughout the house and how we would address any future problems in any of them (i.e. how to turn of the water, work with the circuit breaker and the oil tank, etc). He documented each and every finding, major and minor, and explained the ramifications of each and what we would need to do to address them. We received the written report by email that same day. I could not have asked for a better inspector! Ray was above and beyond what I expected. I would recommend this company without hesitation.

I called on a Tuesday morning and got an appointment that Thursday morning. The receptionist was knowledgeable and able to answer a few technical questions I had about what the inspection process entailed. Frank the inspector arrived early and inspected the outside before I even got there, then showed me his findings. As we progressed through the basement and interior, he would tell me the issues as soon as he saw them. His explanations were generally satisfactory. Every 15 minutes or so he would take a few minutes to type his notes into his laptop. Later that afternoon he emailed us a copy of his detailed written report. The radon test was separate (as is typical). He placed the vials in the basement, but the vials have to sit for two days, so the realtor had to come back and mail them to the lab. We got those results online a total of 6 days after the home inspection. This inspection uncovered two major issues and a few minor issues that, by finding out about early enough, we were able to get compensated for by the seller.
Description of Work: This was a home inspection of a 58-year-old 2-family house we are in the process of purchasing. It included radon testing. Outside, he pointed out damaged things (e.g. broken downspouts), things that were poor by design even if they hadn't caused damage yet (e.g. wood touching dirt), and safety hazards (e.g. railing too short). He didn't go up on the roof but he viewed its condition from the ground. Inside the basement he checked the electrical panels, plumbing, heating systems, hot water, and structure of the house. In the living areas he checked that the kitchen appliances worked, checked functioning of windows, spot-checked some outlets, pointed out doors that didn't close right, and checked ventilation and water pressure and other aspects of the bathrooms. He noted things like cracks in the ceiling, but generally didn't comment on cosmetic issues.

Hired some local home inspector to write the home inspection report last Dec. Liked to have the second opinion about home inspection before the closing. So, Jackson was hired to perform the final walk-through inspection (2 days before the closing) as the contractor. The main reason I did hire Jackson was that he has Angie's list award. Expect better service. However, Jackson was 30 mins late without notice, spent much less than 2 hours, and did not preform the thorough/detail inspection. After closing, found out that the pipe was leaking under kitchen sink (hard not to notice water mess in the kitchen) and electrical switch/wire problem (having metal burning smell and heating up all switches in the first floor). Overall, it was not worth spending $300 for Jackson's performance.

Thanks to Ray Jackson's thorough and comprehensive inspection and extremely professional report, we made the decision not to purchase the house and property. We know Ray's inspection and report protected us from making what would have been a costly mistake in purchasing the property, which we liked very much prior to the inspection. We are still in the process of searching for a home, and will use the services of Jackson Home Inspection with total confidence in the near future.
Description of Work: Ray Jackson arrived early and walked around the property (in pouring rain) prior to our arrival. He then went with us through the house, including the basement and attics (house had an in-law attached), making a thorough inspection of everything in each room, giving us verbal comments and stopping to make his notes in his computer as we went along. He then inspected the outside of the house and the grounds with us, again giving us verbal observations. His comments were knowledgeable and easily understood by us. The inspection took several hours, nothing was overlooked or glossed over. Later the same day (Saturday) we received his inspection report by email.

Great! Jackson did a very thorough job of inspecting the home for blemishes, flaws and major issues. They answered all the questions I had and gave a very detailed report at the conclusion of the inspection. They offer a variety of add-on services and are very knowledgeable when it comes to the overall structure of the house. In the end, I am in the house now and there where no big surprises after moving in!

We used Glenn at Jackson Home Inspection twice. Our first time was with a house that we had put in offer in on. Glenn showed up early and was there when we arrived. He had already started to go around the property noting things before he took us around to them. His assessment of the exterior went well and only had minor issues. The next step was to go in the basement. He immediately noticed issues with the foundation; severe issues. The foundation was very cracked, sinking in different corners, and sinking in different directions. Based off his assessment we decided to stop the inspection there and walk away from the sale because the foundation was not sound and would require a lot of money to fix. His assessment saved us from buying a house that was in bad condition. Glenn charged us less because the inspection was cut off quickly. We found another house and definitely wanted to use Glenn again. He arrived early again and then we got started on the house. He was very detailed and explained everything that he was doing. Giving us all the information we need to know about the house. Any repairs that were needed even if they were minor were explained thoroughly. He recorded all his notes and gave them to us at the end. Glenn was a great resource and we now have a solid house as opposed to a money pit. I would recommend Glenn and Jackson to anyone looking to get a home inspection. They are worth it!
Description of Work: We needed a home inspection done on a house that we put in offer in on.

Glenn arrived promptly and looked at the exterior and interior of our home. He carefully examined each room, taking as much time as needed to answer our many questions. He was very knowledgeable about every aspect of our home, and provided us with lots of helpful information. He took notes during the entire time, and then presented us with an organized looseleaf notebook containing all of these notes and detailed recommendations. This service was worth every penny spent, and Glen told us exactly which items should be done now and which could wait. We feel much more comfortable with our knowledge of our home, and don't have that feeling that there are huge issues that we don't know about.
Description of Work: We wanted an overall assessment of the condition of our home and advice on which of the many projects should receive top priority.

Frank arrived early to start looking around outside the house. When I arrived I found him in the basement, and right away he began explaining problems he was seeing. He was open to questions, did a good job answering them for me, and made some interesting and helpful suggestions regarding dealing with poor drainage on one side of the house and the possibility for radial floor heat in the kitchen. Very thoughtful and thorough. Didn't treat any question with distain, and gave me a good opinion. Didn't get on roof, which I guess few people do, but did use binoculars to get an idea of what was going on up there. Also asked questions of the owner. This is the second time I've used Frank's service.
Description of Work: Single family home from 1840s was inspected prior to purchase.
