Sawyer services assessed our precast concrete front entry stairs.. There are 3 steps and a landing. They determined the precast stairs could be covered with bluestone and paving stones added on the vertical risers and sides of steps. Two other hardscape companies had said this was not wise and it should not be done, that the precast stone could not support that sort of overlay. Sawyer services assured us it would work and requested a deposit which we provided. The work was completed and looked good…until it began to crack. We contacted Sawyer who said they’d be over to check but never came. After repeated calls, and Sawyer being very apologetic, promising to contact us with a time which never happened, we gave up. We contacted them the following spring, and heard the same apologies with promises to ‘call within 2 weeks to schedule a visit’. We now have a cracked and crumbling entry and will call a professional company who can adequately assess and repair this job. Beware using Sawyer services, they may sound knowledgeable and professional, but their work is neither.

It was very good, they did a good job. The old driveway is getting a hole in it and it was very shallow but they had a lot of work to do and they did a thick asphalt which should hold up well, give it a couple of years it still looks good. It was a really long drive way so their price is reasonable.
Description of Work: Sawyer Services did the driveway for us. They had to remove the old driveway, regrade it, put in the gravel, widen it a little bit and we have a really long driveway. The driveway was asphalt.

The real estate broker who sold me the house referred me to Sawyer Services. I found out later that Mr. Sawyer was her boyfriend. The project manager for Sawyer, Sean Cutting, presented the job as an upscale renovation. They tried to get away with cheap materials when the contract specified otherwise. They pressured me for money ahead of schedule, calling me " their worst customer in twenty years". They charged me twice for materials, stating that i had selected the most expensive tile. They ended up not paying the subcontractor who did the work 7500 and I ended up with finish work not done and unusable closets and attic. I registered a complaint with the state against Sawyer and he promised, using a written contract, to pay the subcontractor so that he would finish the work. He never did and I recently got a notice stating that he has declared bankruptcy. Sean Cutting, Sawyer's subcontractor, has opened up a new home improvement company, The Cutting Edge. My advice is (1) run or (2) get a lawyer before you sign anything with Cutting or Sawyer.

Sawyer Services was prompt with an estimate, on time to begin and on time to complete the job. The crew was very, very good and worked hard the entire time they were on site. Since it was not possible to get their truck into the backyard where the work was being done, the crew had to haul all the branches and cut wood around to the house to their truck by hand. I was really impressed with the climber's skill at climbing the trees, rigging safety lines and swinging from the top of one to the top of another big tree, to safely and efficiently complete the high level clean-up.
Description of Work: Sawyer Services cleaned up storm debris, removed small "junk" trees, trimmed broken branches and removed all wood. Their man climbed the larger trees to remove large damaged limbs and branches while a ground crew handled cutting and clean-up on the ground. Work was limited to that which did not require an aerial bucket truck.

There were no problems. We called them, I forgot to use my Angie’s List 10% off coupon, so I paid full price. My overall experience with their service was excellent. Their price was good. The quality of the service was excellent. They were very responsive and punctual. They were very professional. I would use them again.

We were considering Sawyer Services for a small job repaving our driveway. Sean came out to provide an estimate, which was much higher than expected. He said that he only had a few weeks left in the season to pave driveways. He explained that the company would install an 18 inch underlayment of gravel, which is why it was so expensive. I can tell you, from the plethora of paving contrators I interviewed, and speaking with the head of facilities (a contractor) at our 2000+ employee clinic, this was absolutely nutty!!! Industry standard is to place 6-8 inches of gravel underlayment. When I called Sean in the coming weeks, he would inconsistently return my calls, finally calling back after I had made a general call to Sawyer Services. But he replied, indicating he had filled his schedule for the year. Clearly someone else fell for his scheme. I'd be very careful with this saleman. And, I would calculate exactly how much gravel you need for your driveway and watch it being poured into your lot for confirmation. These guys are slick.

Sawyer Services was prompt in returning my request for an estimate. Sean quoted a better price than the other company we called for the same description of what was to be done, plus there was an Angie's List coupon (valid for the time period that we were using their services). They asked for 1/2 of the money as a deposit along with the contract. Once they scheduled the work, they were very prompt in starting, and finished the job in one day. I needed to come home during the day and was able to see that the subcontracted paving company was doing what they said they'd do. I also came home before they were completely finished and they were able to give me a demonstration of how water would grade away from the driveway and into the surrounding grass. They encountered a large, unexpected stump under the ground where the driveway was to be widened, which required extra equipment to be called in to remove it. This ended up adding $250 to our final bill. During the initial visit for the quote, Sean said that the earth next to the new driveway would be nicely graded and ready for us to seed, which didn't happen. The paving company that actually did the work told us they weren't landscapers and it would be up to us to grade and smooth out the ground once the edge of the driveway was completely hardened. This doesn't look like a major amount of work, but still, I didn't expect to have to do it. There was some black tarry substance on our garage's vinyl siding that wasn't cleaned off--I was told that it would come off with Lestoil. I wish it had been cleaned. Again, a small task (it isn't a big amount of tar), but I didn't expect to have to do it myself. There are a couple of small spots in the driveway itself that I'm keeping my eye on, and if there are problems with them I'll revise this review. When the project was complete, Sawyer Services called to arrange for the final payment. They asked me to leave the check outside the door of my house so they could pick it up the next day. I didn't want to do that, and insisted that I be able to mail it, which they agreed to in the end. Overall, the driveway looks good, and the additional parking is wonderful. I would ask Sawyer Services for future estimates on projects.
Description of Work: We had an old driveway removed. The new driveway was expanded in length and width.

I had initially thought that they did a good job but some of the work that they did is falling apart. They seemed very professional but I am finding that some of the masonry work they did is falling apart. They were eager to go along with my ideas in order to make a sale, even if they weren't the best ideas. They were quick to ask me for additional money to do the job but their supervision of the work wasn't up to the mark. They were supposed to put stone dust on the walkways that I had them put in beneath the pavers, but they did not do that. They put in small, chopped-up stones but not stone dust. The pavers shifted and settled and there was dirt in the stones. I had them actually come back and fix something but they still did not put down the stone dust and they did not put down enough polymer sand. I thought that they were great initially but I realize that you need to do your research if you are going to use them. They descended on the property like an army when they came here first with all kinds of people and all kinds of equipment and it was quite impressive. The demolition people started pretty quickly. I wanted the work that I asked them to do to be low-maintenance work and I didn't want them or anyone else to come and repair it on an annual basis. I do understand that some things have to be repaired after a few years but not after a year or two later. They were quick to take my money but I am very disappointed that they cut corners. I have hired someone else, who doesn't have a business card and whose primary language is not English, to repair and redo what they should have done correctly in the first place for probably a fraction of the cost. I am thinking of calling them, after I get the work done correctly, to give me a refund.
Description of Work: Sawyer Services put in a stone retaining wall along the driveway and replaced concrete walkways with pavers. I had them do repair to a garage and a fair amount of masonry work.

Sean was very responsive both initially with the quotation and during the work. With a large project there was regular interaction along the way and adjustments. He worked with us around our budget and although there were some overuns on cost almost all were down to our request for additional work. The team are very good, friendly and trustworthy. Took customer satifaction very seriously and any issues were dealt with promptly with no fuss. It was a significant advantage that they had access to numerous trades and coordinated the total job. Would definitely recommend them for large projects and already have.
Description of Work: Large project to resite large and steep driveway which required significant excavation and tree removal. Installed granite retaining wall and driveway lighting. At rear installed large paver patio area and wiring for hot-tub plus paver walkway. Also installed irigation system , pruned some large trees and finished landscape after all the work

Completely satisfied with all the work they did and their professionalism, as well as the speed of their work. I was in a bind after an awful experience with another contractor that left me with an absolute mess and had stolen my pavers and money. Sean Cutting and his crews were awesome. Estimate on Thursday evening... started work the very next Monday during peak season and finished the job in just 4 days!! And the quality is par none... didn't show up with 2 guys to start working, had a complete crew of at least 5 guys the whole time and they were all experts in what they did. Getting ready to use Sawyer for roof snow removal next week and I reccommend Sawyer to everyone I know for any home improvments/repairs. Not the cheapest, but you'll definintely be satisfied and you'll get what you pay for!!

Shawn was perfectly nice & showed up right when he said. I think their price was fair. Ultimately, a couple things turned me off: 1) They have pretty clearly fake reviews written on themselves which show up on Google 2) Shawn bragged that they had a "A+ on Angie's List" when I knew that was not the case, as I had read the mixed reviews here before calling.

The initial responsiveness & professionalism of Shawn, was great. He discussed our project, made excellent suggestions, showed us samples of the pavers and designs and made himself available to us at odd hours. The installation of the new walkway went well and was done very professionally. We've had several compliments. The landscape design was not professional and was not well thought-out. It was clear that the design was not done by a professional/experienced horticulturist or landscape design professional. The estimates came in higher than others and we decided not to use them for our landscaping project. The tree removal/pruning was done OK. They took reasonable care to protect our lawn. However, they left one tree that was to be removed. I called back and left a message, but the call was never returned and the work never completed. The tree crew also damaged (knocked-down) both sides of a stone wall that flanks the driveway and they never notified me of the damage. I only discovered it after they left. I left several messages with the company and it took almost two weeks until my call was returned acknowledging that they would repair the walls. When the repair was done, it was a nice job.

The process started out positively. They were courteous and responsive when we called, they came quickly to give an estimate. While here, they also gave us ideas for future work that could be done. They scheduled us in quickly and came back within a few days to perform the work. They had to drive some machinery over our neighbor's yard, and they promised they would leave everything as they found it. The work was done within 2 days. After they left, there was some debris left in our neighbor's yard, which we called to complain about, but they never came back to correct. Also, there were many large branches, etc... left behind that we were told would have been removed. They did a nice job trimming back a tree in our front yard. When they came back a few weeks later to take away a tree that fell on our house, they again came a day after we called, but the work wasn't great. They left a lot of branches around, and didn't do a thorough job. We won't be calling them back again.
Description of Work: They cleared out our backyard from several trees that had previously been cut down and left there. They also cleared out the brush from our overall overgrown yard. A few weeks later they removed a tree that fell on our house.

From the moment I contacted Sawyer Services and spoke to a very friendly woman (not an answering machine!), I had a feeling things would go well. I received a quick, professional response from the project manager (Sean). He then made two visits to ensure both my husband and I were in agreement on the work to be done and his company's planned approach. He was patient while we selected the pavers (and recommended we visit the distributor to see them in person). Once the work started, everything went VERY well. When the work teams arrived for a specific job (on 4 or 5 separate occasions), they were on time, professional, respectful and fully prepared to explain what they were going to do. The work was done quickly, with high quality, and they cleaned up after themselves so well we had to actually ask them to stop. Working with Sawyer Services was a pleasure. They also offered some great advice on other issues we are facing. I hope we have a chance to work with them again - it was a great experience all around.

The Sawyer team was supposed to cut a certain number of branches form a big tree in my yard. The guy who comes for estimate gave me a price to cut X number of branches, but his team did not do what we agreed upon apparently because some of the branches were high and needed additional equipments. I called them back and I showed him (the gentleman who gave the estimate) that the work was not done to the agreement. BTW expect a wait time form a week to two for them to call back in response to your request. But to be fair he showed up whenever he said he will. Bottom line they did not come back to cut the big branch they were supposed to cut. I was disappointed. 2011-06-08 update .. got a call from Sawyer that they are planning to cut the branches, when they have a team available in my area .. the call was a surprise to me but it is a happy surprise .. I planning to update my rating once they are done because of their effort to work with their clients on a complain or non satisfactory job .. will see ..

We had hired another contractor in April for a third week of May start date, that bid the job and it they turned out to be an absolue nightmare. Approximately 25% of the way into the job I'd had multiple conversations about how this contractor was doing things that we had not talked about, even after I provided a drawing of my own that described in detail what we were looking for. Four weeks into the job (that was quoted as a two week job), and after I had paid them 2/3 of the contract price earlier than I should have, I was given an ultimatum for more money immediately or they would go no further... and they did not. They came the next morning and stole all of my pavers that were still on pallets and left my entire yard... front and back, completely demolished. (entier backyard excavated, irrigation system completely torn up, 20% of the front yard was excavated as well... We were in a major bind. We called Sawyer Services on 6/30 by Friday 7/2 they were out giving me an estimate that was very reasonable considering the size of the job and the state it was left in... approximately 25% complete and some repairs were needed to the work that was done by the other company. By 8am on Tuesday July 6th Sawyer was at my home with "several" workers starting the job. Mind you this was the beginning of summer and within less than a week from my initial call they were on site working. Sean and Josh had everything well planned and everyone worked together as a team. They left every evening with things in order and every other day Sean was contacting me to talk about the progress and to ensure my complete satisfaction. My wife and I could not believe that in just 4 days they had our backyard looking like something out of Better Homes and Gardens. We will be using them for all of our future home projects and cannot speak highly enough of the absolute professional experience we had with them. We've already recommended them to some friends and co-workers and will continue to do so. YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG HIRING THIS COMPANY... !!!
Description of Work: We had a paver patio built that is over 1300 sq/ft. It has two levels, one of which also included a 5' x 22' stacked stone wall and a built in firepit. The upper portion of the patio has two large rounded and raised planting beds. The walkway to the patio from the driveway has buried stepping stones with grass between and the final steps up to the patio are made of granite. Bluestone steps were used for the entrance of the patio from the slider on the home.

Overall, we were and are very pleased and satisfied customers. We never planned on having so much work done at once, but we were happy whenever a project was finished, so it made sense to keep on going. Price-wise, we think Sawyer's is very reasonable, and would certainly have them do more work for us.
Description of Work: We hired Sawyer's to reconstruct our front lawn after major home renovations. Theo Sawyer designed flower beds and suggested appropriate plants, shrubs, trees, flowers, etc. in keeping with the age and style of our home. We were so happy when this work was completed that we had Sawyer's do our backyard, which had been a mess since the ice storm of 12/11/2008. We had started to build a stone walkway, but we decided to have Sawyer's complete the work. Our dirt driveway was in bad shape, and Theo Sawyer suggested that we have it done while we were doing everything else. Since paving the long driveway was too expensive for us, he came up with an alternative that looks great and has held up very well this winter. Sawyer's also did some tree work for us; in fact, we had them complete tree work that we had originally hired another tree company to do, but which was never finished!

I needed to have the tree removed quickly so we could install an above ground pool. I talked to Shawn when I called to see what the cost would be, he asked me a number of questions and was able to give me a ballpark price range over the phone but stressed how important it was for him to actually see the tree and location. I agreed to have him come out and give us an estimate . Shawn arrived on time and after looking at the site quoted me a price lower than he had originally thought over the phone. To me that is a display of integrity when you have set a high and low expectation to adjust the price according to the actual requirements. Many would have just told me the lowest phone estimate. I only had to wait a few days to have them come out and that was due to rain. When they arrived, they were on time. Great care was taken to make sure the yard looked the same when they left as it did when they arrived (minus one big tree!). The crew was very polite and professional, one man climbed the tree and started taking down the tree on section at a time. The others were moving brush and stacking the wood out of the way. They really worked as a team. by lunch they were cleaning up and done. I would gladly hire them again for any of the services they offer.
Description of Work: We had a large tree that was beginning to lean toward the house and would be in line with an above ground pool we were planning to put in. So we decided to have the tree taken down. I saw them listed in Angie's list so they were my first and only call.

From start to finish of this project Sawyer Landscaping exceeded my expectations. Theo, the owner was involved from start to finish. We signed the contract one day and the next morning it seemed like an army invaded my home. The crews that came out were extremely professional and worked non-stop. I would not hesitate to recommend or have Saywer Landscaping perform additional work on my home in the future.
Description of Work: Installed new walkway and granite step, removed overgrown shrubs and trees, removed gravel driveway, leveled area and reseeded. Created 5 new planting beds and planted new tree, bushes and flowers and mulched entire area. Installed granite mailbox post. Reseeded areas affected by new walkway and beds.
