Very professional in terms of quoting the work. Extremely detailed plan provided which was a lot better than many of the "yeah we can drop a pool in here" companies. Went above and beyond to make sure that the plan was right for us, adapted it to fit our needs and budget and explained all the details. I was very happy with the concept, design and initial service. I especially liked the fact that they were a full service provider, design, pool, patio and fence. Unfortunately the terms of payment were very aggressive. Insisted on 100% payment before the pool had actually been switched on or filled with water. 40% due at the start of excavation, 40% at the start of the gunite with the remainder paid with patio installation starting and wrapping up with 5% due when the pool finish is applied. When we pushed back on this they offered to hold back $1,000 until completion, kind of insulting on a project close to $70,000. After a lot of discussion they agreed to hold back 10% until the end. I'm sure they're great but 10% leaves me with no leverage if there are issues. Who puts down everything on a construction project before it Is finished. Unfortunately, I had to step away, despite great reviews, I was not happy with the terms, so disappointed!

It went really well. There were a few hiccups along the way, but they were resolved (or are being resolved) professionally and promptly. We have not regretted our decision to use Pools by Andrews. The people there are fantastic. Responsive and capable. You need to do your research though, as there is a lot of negotiating required. Also, they should do their research to better understand the bells and whistles available to pool consumers across the country.
Description of Work: Pools by Andrews built our inground gunite pool and hot tub. They coordinated with the electrician and gas installers and generally project managed the entire process.

Overall they did an excellent job and finished after about 6 weeks, in time for the July 4th holiday. Though there were some issues on coordinating various subcontractors and the spa problem, it went as good as can be expected. The cost was not cheap, but it never is with a gunite pool. The overall result is a nice looking pool, modern plumbing, and a great oasis in my back yard. I'm glad I did this renovation rather than filling in the hole.
Description of Work: We had a pool originally installed by Andrews back in 1970 which lasted for 40 years with a coping replacement and some masonry work done during that time period. We were having some water loss which was increasing to a few inches a day, and over the winter of 2010, most of the water drained out from leaks. I called the company and they sent a salesman down to look at the pool and what work it needed. The pool is a gunite pool with a hot tub built into one end. With several of my children and their friends always using the pool, we decided to expand the hot tub to hold more people. The initial quote was to redo the hot tub, redo the gunite on the walls, and replaster the pool for about $28 K. After an inspection of the plumbing, they found multiple leaks throughout the system and we had to replace all the plumbing, adding a few more thousand dollars to the project. Since the plumbing was redone, I upgraded the pump to a larger unit and the filter from a sand to a cartridge filter. I also painted the pool with rubber pool paint two years prior and that had to be blasted off with a very high powered water blaster in order to replaster the pool, which cost $2500/day for the machine and crew and it tool 1.5 days to do the job. In addition, electrical work had to be done for the new light, pump system and air pump for the spa cost another $2 K. Before everything was done, it was close to $40 K from start to finish, including a mesh cover. The pool came out terrific and the only water loss is from evaporation. If anything, when it rains heavily, I have to pump water out of the pool. Over the winter of 2011, we had a lot of snow, cold and ice. The pool came through without any problems but two coping tiles were damaged by the freezing temperatures and ice. I contacted the company and they sent over a crew withing 2 weeks and replaced the two tiles in a few hours which was covered by the warranty. My only complaint was with the hot tub, we had problems with the air blower being too strong for the distance between the blower and spa, resulting in a "boiling pot of water" affect where water bubbled over the pool side and soaked the deck. A smaller blower was installed and though it was serviced over the summer 2-3 times by the service company, it never worked right. At the end of the season after the pool was drained the 18 inches, the service tech realized one of the jets wasn't set up right and fixed the plastic insert. This spring, between the insert being fixed and the air blower having a relief valve put on it to divert some air away from the pool, the bubbles work fine. The only problem is the noise of the air blowing while the blower is on. We're still addressing this issue.
