Marquis Tree Service

At 10:30 p.m. on July 3rd, 2014 a bad storm blew over a tree in my back yard that came to rest on the roof of my neighbor. I started making calls on July 4th, but because of the holiday I could only leave messages. Marquis called me back the next morning, Saturday July 5th and came out a few hours later and gave me an estimate. They came out first thing Monday morning with a crane and removed the tree. By that time I still hadn't heard from any of the other companies I had called (Trumbull Barrett did call me that evening). They were very careful not to damage the neighbor's house and did an excellent job cleaning up.

These guys have an impressive operation. The work was so well coordinated and was completed far sooner than expected. They were fun to watch too. The tree cutter harnesses himself to the crane (see pic) , drops into the tree, and works his magic. The crew was very courteous and respectful of our foundation plantings. They cleaned up afterwards and left us with a ton of mulch from the stump grinding.

Professional, high quality services

Prior to the day of service I met with John Marquis to discuss the project. We went over the property, identifying the trees that needed pruning and those that should be removed. John was of the mind that we should save whatever trees that could be saved. I agree with this philosophy. There were some trees that were extremely close to the house, and some that were overhanging the home and needed to be removed. We agreed on the work to be done on each individual tree. John sent me a proposal, describing the work to be done and included a certificate of liability insurance which I had asked for. We agreed on the dates and the price. The Marquis crew arrived on the day appointed and we went through the work to be performed. They had the right equipment-i.e. large bucket truck, chipper and chip truck. More importantly, they knew exactly how to use the equipment,what needed to be done and how to do it. From the start, the three man crew worked efficiently and as a well organized team. I had the opportunity to watch this crew over the two day period they worked on our property. They are a professional tree service team whom I recommend without reservation.

Very professional and competent

Wow!!!! That is all I can say. These guys were amazing. They brought in their BIG crane and took out the tree with amazing precision and care. Was not sure I wanted to watch as they lifted huge branches and the trunk out over my house, around a tree in my front yard, and then put them down on the street in between telephone/cable wires. It was incredible to watch and I have huge respect for the climber who did all the tree work and the crane operator who operated "blind" most of the time because of our house blocked his view of the tree. In al, they brought out 5 trucks/pieces of equipment and 5-6 guys. It was quite an operation. I thought the price might be a touch high until I saw all the people, all the equipment, and the impressive skills. They chipped the tree, cleaned up the yard and street, and took away the wood. I do wonder what happened to all that solid oak and whether I should have discussed selling the wood rather than giving it to them--perhaps the value was reflected in my final price, who knows?). They are a first class operation. Certainly worth hiring if you have a tricky tree removal.

It wasn't cheap but they went all the way around the whole perimeter of the house. They were very punctual. I tried to use the other tree service people and they couldn't give me a certain day when they would come, and then finally these guys gave me a strong day when they would come. They didn't show up when they said they would, but they kept calling me everyday and telling me that they would come the next day. They did finally come 3 days later, but it's not a big deal. They were good. The actual quality of the work was fantastic. They did a really good job of not harming the tree that didn't need to be cut. The backside drops off and it's really almost 3 storeys at the back so to get a truck back there is impossible so they had to use additional equipment to get around, but they were fair and they didn't charge me anymore. I was happy with how things went out. I could have been a little happier with the day they said they will come, but other than that, it had been great. I think overall they are a good company, very easy to work with, and their prices were fair.

The Marquis crew did an excellent job. There were several members on site. Each had their own specific task allowing them to work efficiently and expeditiously together. Their equipment was great. It was amazing to watch as they very methodically removed these 4 trees. Great job!

They did a superb job. They thought enough of me as a customer to call me to move our appointment date up. Christie called me yesterday morning and said they were concerned that the Pine Tree may get knocked over because all of the rain that is coming in. They thought that the rain would soften the ground and the high winds may make it fall. They were very generous and caring enough to think of me and come out the next day and take care of me. Besides being nice, the actually job and clean up was excellent. I have refereed this company to many of my friends and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Written estimate was very fast, within about 2 days from the first call. They are local. Scheduling took a while. Once scheduled, they showed up on time with the full compliment of lift trucks and all. Reviewed the details of the job so that there was no misunderstanding. After the job they did a full clean up.

They did an excellent job. Their prices are excellent. They are professional. We have used them for many years.

The tree fell down in the blizzard storm so every tree company was busy. Marquis came to do the estimate immediately but didn't perform the service until much later. When they cut down the tree I was on vacation so no one is around the house. The tree was cleaned up nicely except for the tilted root. I wish they could have called in advance so I can schedule the cut down after my vacation time. Nevertheless, they did a good job. My neighbor used them for the fell tree from same storm as well. Because it was more complicated job, they used heavy machinery to cut it down and remove it. From my side of the house, they looked professional too.

They cut huge logs and placed them in a preset area and also trimmed the other trees. They picked up the logs the next morning and there was nothing left on his yard or near his street. They also cleaned up the sawdust and blew off his driveway on any area close to the street. He was very pleased with the price and how effecient they were.

We would highly recommend Marquis!!!!! We are very pleased with the crew that was sent to us. Job well done!!

One tree was removed completely and stump was ground down; another large branch was removed - both required a bucket truck. Another tree was beautifully trimmed. Two other trees were lightly trimmed. The three men were professional, knowledgeable, and polite. The yard was cleaned of debris and finished by using a leaf blower.

John Marquis, the owner, showed up on time to look at the work and gave me an estimate on the spot. He also offered some very useful advice about what trees to take down (or not). The crew showed up on time and was extremely professional and competent. There was no impact to my property other than some dents in the lawn where some of the large trunks had been placed for pick up by the log truck the next day. (Given the size of the trees, it would have been amazing if there had not been any impact to the lawn.) Taking down large trees is not something you want to take any chances with and these guys are very good. This kind of work is not cheap either but there is definitely some entertainment value in watching them do the work!

Terrible job, they would have cut down the tree if I didn't stop them. I wanted to go over with the crew what was going to be cut. I told them I would be home Monday when they were scheduled to do the work. They never knocked on the door, just headed to the backyard and starting cutting, I finally heard them out back and was able to stop them but not before they trimmed more than I wanted. What upsets me most is that I stayed home to go over the work with them.

John Marquis came out for the quote on time. We needed the large trees around the house trimmed especially where they overhung the house. He suggested the best approach was to hire a 75 foot bucket crew for the day and direct them as needed. The crew was there on time and setup immediately after learning which trees were our priority in trimming. The crew consisted of 3 men, a tree climber and two operating the large chipper and also the bucket. They were very efficient and accomplished all the work that was desired. The cleanup afterwards was excellent. Marquis was chosen based on the reviews here and having observed them in the neighborhood. We would definitely use them again.

The men, the trucks and chippers and the crane all arrived on time. The temperature was over 90°F, the dew point was 70°F and the relative humidity was around 80%. The men had lunch with lots of fluids and then got to work. They identified the trees to be removed and started setting up the crane. Plywood was put down in the driveway where the tires would go and plywood and cribbing was put down on the grass where the crane outriggers would go to stabilize the crane while it was lifting.I had to advise them that a part of the crane was touching the electrical feed from the pole to my house. They looped a rope around the wires and pulled them away from the crane until the crane had adequate clearance. Everything went like a well oiled machine after that.The four men all knew their jobs and performed as a team. The live trees were topped then removed with the large logs being saved and the branches being chipped. The three dead trees were removed and chipped, The exception being a dead birch with a 14 inch diameter trunk that had not started to decay for the bottom 20 ft. The oak tree removed had an average diameter of 27 inches. The four men cleaned up any branches that came off of the trees in my yard, removed fallen branches from a neighbor?s yard and cleaned up the wood chips from the street where the chipper was located.

Dear Angie's List, what "all the details" you are asking me? I did not see anything... I left to work when Marques Tree guys came. When I returned I found no guys and no trees we agreed to cut. Week or two later I got a bill in my mailbox. That is it. :)

I had used them in the past, their work was well done. Prompt arrival to quote. A 45" tree felled by Sandy. When quoting, we agreed to have "cookies" cut. (discs from the truck for tables) Prompt arrival on the day scheduled to work. The person who quoted and I confirmed at the start about cutting discs with the understanding there was flexibility in size. They lifted the sections of trunk out of the garden. Removal from that area was well done. Two trips were required to remove all the large sections of wood. They also removed the piece of truck expected to be custom cut. When they finished working I was told based on some colored lines on the truck base that there might be metal in the wood. For that reason they did not want to cut discs. That area in the trunk was 12 feet above the base. If that was true, I should have been told sooner in case i wanted the portion of trunk left behind. I had asked that a worker not drag brush into the woods. Upon leaving, there were portions of branches and brush left behind. I asked them to complete the work. Two reasons were given, to get to another job and they did did not have lunch. The lunch is understandable as long as the work was still completed. I held payment until the work would be completed. A delay would be understandable because of temporary snow happening. They ultimately reduced payment by $100 to consider the job complete. An expert in gardening told me the color in the base was not from metal. For me to have the remaining branches and brush removed it took about 6 hours.
