[Member Name Removed], We have no record of your name or address in our system. Are you sure it was SunBug Solar you were calling? Can you tell us what phone number you called, and the name of the guy who kept hanging up on you? Our main phone lines are answered by Andrea, Annemarie, or Kyle, and I can assure you they have no reason to hang up on someone who was calling us looking to go solar! Thanks, Ben

Description of Work: The team at SubBug quoted out a large solar array for a home I was considering purchasing. I only didn't go through with it because I didn't buy the home. | |From my research, they may be slightly higher priced than other installers, but they easily make up for that with customer service. Highly recommended! I hope I get to use them soon.

No problems from start to finish. This team knows what they are doing.
Description of Work: Working with SunBug was a great pleasure. We got estimates and designs from three solar companies and these guys came up with the most efficient and safest plan with the greatest number of Watts for a good price. We do not have a lot of south-facing roof, but our designer, Dan, found a smart way to work with what we have on our old farmhouse so that the system can cover almost all of our electricity needs. When they were here (punctually), the guy doing the electrical work was a maniac for detail and doing it just right (and it does look really good)! Andrea at the office is extremely responsive and great. I really like these guys. Too bad we already have as much solar as we need or I'd call them again, just for the pleasure of working with them.

The entire process went smoothly from beginning to end. SunBug has us connected to a website which monitors both our solar power production and our home energy consumption in real time. Mark Dullea 8 Longview Way Peabody MA 01960
Description of Work: We called their office, expressing an interest in having solar electricity installed in our home. Our call was returned promptly, and an appointment was made with SunBug's Ben Mayer. Ben arrived on time, and made a thorough assessment of our property. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He was very helpful in clearly explaining the various available tax credit programs, as well as other incentives which help to bring down the net cost of going solar. He was also quickly in touch with personnel at the Peabody Municipal Electric Company to work with them on our project. This turned out to be the first solar electric system in the city, so a fair amount of educating and hand-holding was required. SunBug assists their customers in negotiating the fairly complex SRECs program (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates). It is the part of the state of Massachusetts mandate that power producing utilities generate some percentage of their power via renewable sources. Since they (the big utilities) are not doing this, they are required to compensate those of us who are at a very attractive kwh rate. SunBug handles all the paperwork involved in the SRECs program. All of the roof work, and work which interfaces with our home electric system, was smartly handled in just a couple of days.

As a local solar company, they were able to come take a look at our roof and tell us how much sun our roof gets and how much energy we'd be able to produce. Other companies were only able to look at our roof from a satellite. They are very personable and honest and were great at explaining all of the subtleties of solar. We also appreciated that they showed up when they said they would. Overall, we'd highly recommend them.

They did a good job explaining the design, installation, interconnection, and incentive processes and answered my many questions. We worked with Jordan, who did a good job listening to my concerns and providing well-informed explanations. They were really easy to work with overall, and I appreciated that. The whole process took about 5 months to complete, from initial call to final meter connection but that is to be expected if you want to get the Commonwealth Solar II incentive. If I have one gripe, I am still finding little plastic caps from the inverter packaging. Not a big deal, though. SunBug's office manager, and the lady who handles all the paperwork filings, is a joy to work with and must have to juggle a lot of details for many projects.
Description of Work: SunBug installed 16 240-W Canadian Solar panels on our garage, each with a dedicated microinverter. Power was fed back to the main electrical panel in the house. All the necessary interconnection and incentive paperwork was filed by SunBug on our behalf. We have two energy monitoring systems - one for the Invensys microinverters and SugBug's own dashboard (SunWatch).

I talked to five companies, and while this was actually the most expensive estimate, there were a lot of reasons I chose Sunbug, and I have no regrets... even plan to have them add solar hot water as well. The bidding cycle was a great learning process. Most companies presented a single option, others seemed to be opportunistically following the SRECs and rebates from state to state. Of all "sales" people (ranging from not salesy at all, good, to very slick, bad), Dan was most knowledgeable about many options, and he's clearly got a passion for solar (as does everyone at Sunbug). I was interested in using microinverters, in fact Dan educated me about four different options, some of which I had not read or hear of. Installation was actually done before we had even planned a date--I got a call asking if the installation team could come the following week, as some shipments had been affected by flooding in the Midwest and the project manager (also a gem) had rearranged the schedule and opened up a date for me. One complication was a tree that needed to be cut way back. Other companies had simply said my roof was too shaded, Dan worked with me and the arborist to create the necessary sun profile to pass muster. The install team was great, the assistance with paperwork was great, all rebates arrived in a very timely manner, and I look forward to getting SREC checks soon! Of course, those minimal electrical bills are great, given that they cover the shortest days of the year so far. Consumption vs generation is almost a wash, the bills are goofy... last one was $6 for generation, and $12 for delivery. I'll be thrilled to see longer days cancel out the bills altogether. My system came with two monitoring dashboards, one for the microinverters (maintained by Enphase, the manufacturer), the other supplied by Sunbug (created by the founder). They both provide options for downloading data (both are web apps). It's been very interesting to see how the system works. I've had a couple of issues with hardware, which were addressed immediately, and also with software--again, both Enphase and Sunbug were extremely responsive. I've had some electrical work done since the installation, and every contractor who has visited the house wants to know more about it. I recommend Sunbug at every opportunity.

I was interested in putting photovoltaic panels on my new house but wanted to know more before I made any commitment, Ben Mayer was extremely helpful in developing possible options and completing a detailed analysis of efficiency and estimated time to payback, lifecycle savings, and internal rate of return. He also did an excellent job of explaining the federal and state rebates, and the very complicated credit system (SRECs) that pay you for the electricity you generate. The installers were professional and efficient. I had a problem with the first inverter they installed, which developed at about the same time as I had decided to go ahead and purchase a second array. (I had sold my previous house for more than I had anticipated and found I had the money to do so.) They came out to check the inverter and tried to fix it (unsuccessfully) and then had to order a new one. Because I was installing a second array, they found another brand of inverter which both sets of panels could feed into separately, making it more efficient. Athough, there were several weeks of down time when I was not generating electricity, the final system is better than it would have been with two separate inverters, which was the original plan. Now it is all completed, the system is working away and I have generated enough electricity to claim my first SREC. SunBug Solar remainsl willing and able to answer any questions that I have
Description of Work: Sunbug solar installed an array of 12 panels on one side of my roof in August 2011 and a second matching array on the other side of the roof (there is a dormer in the middle) in December 2011. They obtained all the required permits for installation.

I received 3 bids for installing solar panels on my roof one of which was from SunBug Solar. Why I chose SunBug: They were the most responsive to my questions. They gave me options as to the size and configuration of the system I could have installed and encouraged dialogue to make sure I was getting what best suited me whereas the other companies simply told me what I should have installed. SunBug is local. Their main office is in Cambridge, not California. I felt confident that the relationship would be ongoing. One of the other bidders was California-based and seem to just hire local contractors for the installation after which they were gone. On the initial consultation when they came to evaluate the possible installation, their enthusiasm for solar electric was obvious. For them it seems not just a job but a passion giving me confidence they wanted to do it right. SunBug provided several references for past installations. Given the amount of money I was about to spend I definitely followed up on them. All references were very positive also giving me confidence in their ability. They have already installed close to 100 systems. The cost of their system was competitive with the other bids I received. The installation process: Once I chose SunBug I'd have to say my expectations for them were high. In summary, they met and even exceeded these high expectations for every step of the installation process. The project coordinator made sure all permitting and applications were in place. She was helpful in applying for the quarterly Massachusetts grants and all the required paperwork for permitting and hooking into the electric utility. The amount of paperwork is significant and their help with ALL of it was huge. The installation team, who have worked for SunBug for quite some time, were efficient in their work, friendly, and cleaned up after each day's work. They were happy to answer all questions I had about the various components of the system. The installation follow-up required even more paperwork. SunBug took care of all of this. All I had to do was sign my name. This paperwork allowed me to earn ?Solar Renewable Energy Credits? (SREC's) based on the amount of electricity my system generated. This a a great Massachusetts-based incentive where utilities are required to buy these incentive which, over time, greatly helps to offset the initial cost of the system. These SREC's along with a 30% federal tax credit as well as a Mass. State credit and grant will have a huge impact on the affordability of my system. It was these incentives, along with the environmental benefits, that were the tipping point that brought the ultimate net cost down to an affordable price point. After the Mass. grant and state and federal tax credits come next April the net cost of my system will be on the order of $20,000 and that's not including electricity cost savings and eventual SREC income. In summary, my experience with SunBug Solar exceeded my expectation and would wholeheartedly recommend them.
Description of Work: Solar electric panel (photo-voltaic) 5.6 Kw system. The system is comprised of 3 banks of solar panels tilt-mounted on racks secured to a flat roof. The panels connect to 2 inverters which are fed into a production meter which then gets tied into the main electric panel as well as the outside public utility electric grid. Also included is a SunWatch meter which allows me to monitor the solar panel production as well as electric consumption from a browser on my computer.
