Allan Painting

Allan Marcus is a true professional and I am happy I chose to do business with him. It's not very often I can think back in the past 20+ years of home improvement projects where I can say I am completely satisfied with a contractor on a large project. From the first contact with Allan to the last day of the job it was a pleasure working with him to review progress and make adjustments along the way. People who work with Allan Marcus quickly realize just some of his qualities: He's very professional, genuinely nice, trustworthy, and punctual. These are the qualities one looks for in a contractor, but honestly we often do not see in one person. Allan not only has a lot of painting and business experience, he's also a patient and good listener. When we had trouble choosing the exact color he went to another house where we liked the colors and found out what they had. Then he painted three samples on our house with a new trim color and we could then easily make a final choice. He also shared his objective view on colors to complement the house in the surroundings. He emphasized the importance of it being what we wanted and being happy with the colors (and not settling). After painting for the first few hours on the first day we made sure of the color choices before he continued. Allan had a schedule and he kept to it. First, the pressure washing was done a week or more in advance and the clapboards were completely dry before painting started. He never painted during the rain (we had pretty good weather) but he was also not rushing to avoid rain. His crew was methodical about the process and he did not paint two coats on a single side of the house on the same day. Six days of painting later the house was completed and it looks great! By way of comparison, I know people who had a different painter who claimed by lunch time they had two coats on one side of the house ... or so they said. I never worried about cut corners or shortcuts with Allan's crew. On the first day of the job, Allan and I walked around and looked at all of the repair work and he offered good advice about repairs and materials. There were no surprises and I never second guessed if a repair was actually needed or not. Allan and his team took a practical approach on repairs---if something could be repaired versus replaced it was repaired. Each day of the job Alan and his crew started by 7am and I was there to discuss any questions or decisions. Good communication with Allan ensured there were no do-overs or surprises. Each day around 3-4pm the crew completely cleaned up, neatly stacked ladders off to the side, and there was no mess. On the last day of the job we walked around and looked at the house together and made sure any last points were addressed. Looking around the property after the job was completed, I did not see any paint chips on the ground, paint on the plants, steps, or walkways, etc. The crew was clean and neat and it shows. Each of Allan's crew, including his foreman, were nice and courteous. Whether it was asking a question, or asking them to move ladders so we could get a car out of the garage there never was a complaint. Everyone on the crew was very customer service focused. No one was smoking or using foul language so we never had to worry about the young children being around the painters. I was happy with Allan Painting's proposal, then I joined Angie's List and read the reviews before the job was started.. This validated my opinion that Allan Painting was a professional and reliable company and I had made the right choice! Allan and his crew take pride in their work and it shows. I thanked Allan and his crew for doing a great job. I would use Allan Painting again and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends or others seeking a high-quality painter.

Michael provides a very customized and full service experience. He provided an extremely consultative approach in the review of the paint jobs I was looking to have done and even had some terrific ideas on potential design elements. He is extremely knowledgable in all types of painting, papering and plastering jobs and you can tell he takes extreme pride in his work. I decided to hold off on the jobs and declined the estimate. Michael was extremely professional and offered assistance on future projects. Although I didn't end up using Allan painting, it was extremely clear to me that he is a craftsman of the highest order and should certainly be considered for any high quality paint, paper or plaster work you are looking to have done.

Allan came on very short notice and under a tight deadline due to a pending runner installation. He was very clear and upfront about the thorough work he would do. We called back with a concern about a small spot and he was back the next day to make sure we were completely happy, proving that he stands behind his work! We plan to use him again in the future.

Allan painting are in my town. They had good reviews on Angie's list. It was the owner and from his talks, I am sure it is a wonderful company. I have no complaint about anything he said. I am sure he would have done a perfect job. The problem was with the price, it cost too much money. I would possibly not use their service as a matter of fact I am having the job done by the other guy who had also given me the estimate and I am using him for the second time.

Allan painting did an excellent job. They were clean, punctual, dependable and a pleasure to have in my home. I am already planning future projects with them.

The price they quoted me was $11,000 and I thought that was high because I got other quotes. They presented the quote to me via e-mail.

The work was accomplished in two and a half days. We were very happy with the quality of work and with the politeness of the crew. We have two indoor cats and the crew was careful to assure they didn't get out when the windows were up for painting. The carpentry work was well done. We had quite a bit of rot on trim that needed to be replaced. Each day all materials and tools were stowed. Cleanup was very good at the end of the job. We were particularly happy with the cleaning of the gutters. They looked like new. The price was high, but the work was excellent. We feel we got good value for the money.

This was a fantastic experience. I was SO happy with Allan and his crew and the work they did. They arrived bright and early every morning and were always very good about cleaning up at the end of the day. They were polite and professional and very easy to talk with. Allan especially was a joy to work with and was great about explaining all the steps along the way to me. He always returned my phone calls and emails quickly and made me feel at ease with the whole project. He was also very helpful as I was choosing paint colors for both the house and my garage doors, since I was unsure about what I wanted initially. I also found his price to be very reasonable. I will most definitely use Allan Painting again in the future and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a great painting company.

Everything went well. They were professional and punctual, but we found their price to be too high.

I think the price he quoted me was $4200, but I did not use him because it was too high. He was pleasant and polite. He came and looked at the rooms and sent me an e-mail with the quote. I had another quote which was far way less, so when he called to ask if I had any questions I told him that I did not have any questions, but his quote was just too high. He called me back after 5 minutes and said that he hates to lose a job over a couple of hundred dollars and maybe we could talk. I told him that it was more than a couple of hundred dollars and the other quote I got was half of what he quoted me, so I found somebody else. I would tell others that he was pleasant and respectful, but expensive. He is responsiveness was good and he was quick and accurate.

The person who came was very prompt and professional. I was impressed with his approach. We probably will call him again for work as we have decided to wait. I called him and he came the next day. He then gave me the quote the following day. He was very responsive.

Excellent job. Very good communication in advance about paint needed. Arrived promptly. Crew courteous, neat and did excellent job. When there was one corner I was not happy with, they were responsive and sanded and repainted it. I had three estimates--one was $500 more, one was $500 less. Allan painting was available quickly so I chose them. I would highly recommend them.

They were very professional and courteous. They did a great job. We highly recommend them. They were on time. Allan responded to any questions we had in a very quick manner. The guys were cleaned up nice and everything was perfect. They did 2 coats and it cost $10,000. We got a couple of estimates for the job.

Working with Allan and his team was a very positive experience. His input was very helpful. Also, it seemed that he was very concerned that we were happy with all aspects of the job. The work was always scheduled in advance so there were no surprises. The quality of workmanship was excellent. Special note for John who did the carpentry. The whole team was very easy to work with.

I had used Allan Painting back in the spring for the exterior of my house. I was very happy with every aspect of that job. I decided to do some work inside and I didn't need to think twice about giving Allan a call. He responded to my call quickly and came to look at the job right away. He had great advise on the color combinations that I wanted to use. He could not have been more helpful. His crew was professional and punctual. I had the same great experience this time as I did the last time. They were neat and clean and I am very happy with the way the work turned out. Not only will I use Allan Painting again but I will reccomend him to everyone I know. You won't be disappointed with this choice!

The experience went very well. The company is small. He is very responsive to messages and questions. He kept me informed about anything they found that needed to be addressed. His crew was very tidy and efficient. They didn?t leave a mess and they were quick. They in and out. I shopped around because I thought that I would need a carpenter first. They did everything for me. I would definitely use them again and I have recommended them to someone else.

We researched different vendors on Angie's list, asking 3 to provide estimates on the work to be done. Allan's estimate was the highest but we felt his assessment of our home was the most complete and believed that the work would also be the most comprehensive. We were right. Allan showed up when he said he would, helped us choose paint colors and proved to be a great contractor with which to work. His team was here early every morning and worked straight through the day and they were very courteous. Allan himself was here throughout the process, showing up at the start of each day and then checked in throughout the day. He told us what would happen at each step of the process and let us know if there was something out of the ordinary. The work was high quality and clean ... finished when they said it would be done. Overall, we found Allan Painting to give us a great experience and would recommend to Angie's List members without hesitation. Remember, they weren't the least expensive but we feel that our largest investment, our home, was worth the value of Allan Painting.

I found Allans Painting through Angies List. He had a very high reccomendation so I decided to call. I am so glad that I did!! I couldn't have asked for a better job! I called him on Thursday April 23rd. Allan was at my house that evening and he gave me an estimate. Within a week, Allan and his crew were at my home. The job only took two days. Allan was on the job and he was wonderful in every aspect from helping me with the color combinations to answering all of my questions! His crew was polite and on time. One of the most important things to me was how neat they were!!! They cleaned up after themselves and I didn't have one drop of paint on the ground! I was so happy with the result that I am going to have Allan come back later in the summer to do some interior work.

We are extremely pleased with the end result, and it was a very smooth process throughout. Allan is a very good communicator, and his foreman John and their other painters obviously take a lot of pride in their work. We always felt that they wanted to make the house look as good as we wanted it to look, and they were willing to go the extra mile to make it happen. For example, they painted a fairly large section just so we could confirm our color selection, and then worked with us to refine the choice of accent colors. Not as obvious, but more importantly, they also spent a great deal of time on the scraping, washing and preparation of the surfaces, including a couple of very hot days on the sunny side of the house. The painting estimate was not the lowest we received, but all of his references were very positive and that was a big part of our decision to hire Allan. I think we received very good value for the price. There was a crew of at about 6 painters all day, every day, for a full two weeks. They were all very professional and seem to have worked together for quite a while. They arrived when they said, the job lasted as long as they said, and we have received many compliments on the finished product. They were also flexible and willing to make changes as they went along. We would definitely recommend Allan and his company, both for a large and detailed job such as this, or for a smaller project.

Allan was great to work with. He was very flexible in finding a time to come for an estimate - including having to come back after I left the keys to our new house in Boston the first time I was scheduled to meet with him. The painting was done with good quality in a short period of time so it was ready for us before we moved in.

Allan was very professional and responsive. He was able to give a quote quickly and the work was started within just a couple days of his target. The work was completed in exactly the amount of time quoted and the estimate was not revised. Allan handles the business transactions by email, which is very convenient. Overall, the work done was of high quality. The team was professional and courteous. They organized their ladders and supplies each evening, and did a nice job with cleaning up. I did not find any paint splatter on my plants or hardscaping.

Allan was extremely professional. He knew what he was doing. He admitted that they would be more expensive upfront, but countered that when they were done the rooms would look better than new. His estimates include some above and beyond work such as fixing cracks in the walls, and recaulking all seams. I believe that his work would have reflected this. But at the end, the estimate was too high for the time required. I ended up hiring someone else to do the exact same work for about 50% less. Allan was prompt in all communications, and provided the estimate and local references in a timely manner.

Allan Michael Marcus met with us to assess the work, answered our questions, and helped us choose paint colors. Allan works with a foreman and small crew. Allan's foreman completed about 20 hours of carpentry work, replacing rotten window sills and other trim boards. We are very pleased with the carpentry and paint work. Allan maintained very good communication with us before and during the work.
