J Hockman arrived right on time (noon on a Saturday), just as Bridgewater Pump arrived to determine the mechanical problem. J Hockman technician pumped the chamber and worked with Bridgewater Pump professionally and efficiently. He gave a clear explanation of the work that would be done and done promptly and efficiently.
Description of Work: Septic Alarm went off on a Saturday morning and we contacted J Hockman, who we have used before. Chris worked with us and another company (Bridgewater Pump) to determine our needs over the phone. Informed us of the price, with the emergency surcharge for service on the weekend, and then coordinated the work with the other group, to help diagnose the need for a new pump system.

Horribly. I would never hire this contractor again. They were the highest of the estimates we got, but came with good reputation, so we decided to bite the bullet and go with the best recommendation. The contract we signed was for the water main and replacement of driveway they tore up to get to the main. for a total of $8800. They came and replaced the water main, and dropped stone over the torn up driveway and told us they would come back when the weather was warmer to finish the paving. There was a lot of snow on the ground when repair was done, but even so I was still disappointed that site was left such a mess - a rock wall that had to be dismantled was left lying everywhere all over the driveway, so now most of the slate is broken and cannot be re-used. We paid the invoice sent for the water main repair ($6000) as soon as we got the invoice, but I still cannot get them to come back to finish the driveway - they claim they left a single message and since we didn't return the call, they moved on from the job. I called and emailed numerous times to get them to come and finish the driveway, they never return calls nor emails. I finally got the gentleman that gave us the original estimate on the phone, and after telling me he was too busy now to come and finish it up for another month at least - when I balked and pointed out that I paid the first part promptly so that we could get the second part done quickly, declared that the $6k I paid for the repair was "peanuts to them" so I should either suck it up and wait for them to get around to me or I should find another person to finish the job, and then hung up on me. I called back to verify this was their stance, only to be hung up on again. I now have to retain a lawyer to try and get them to complete the contracted work. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY they are brash, obnoxious, dismissive, and entirely not worth the cost for the added stress they threw into an already stressful situation.
Description of Work: had a water main burst from the harsh winter, driveway was destroyed and had to replace the water main from the house to the street.

Response from J HOCKMAN SEPTIC SVC INC
On March 11, 2015 my company prepared a proposal for (member name removed) to do a water line replacement at his home to repair a leaking water service that was bubbling out of his driveway. Our proposal included a description of the proposed work including what was included and what was not included. (Landscaping was not included nor was damage to the existing driveway.) (member name removed) returned the signed proposal on March 12, 2015. On March, 17th we mobilized our equipment and crew to begin our proposed work. The driveway was clear with piles of snow 2-4’ deep along the edges of the driveway. The rest of the property was also covered in approximately 2 feet or more of snow. The water service was turned off by the town at the street shut off about 150’ away from the house. The existing water pipe was located 6-7’ deep (5’ is a standard depth) across the front of the garage around the septic system leaching area under the poured concrete wall (existing pipe was found to be 8-9’deep at this point. During this entire process we had to be dewatering the excavation. All the wet excavated soils were loaded into dump trucks and was hauled off site. The bottom of the excavation was covered in ¾’ crushed stone to stabilize the bottom as we could not excavate deeper than the foundation. (This was not included in our proposal nor did we charge any extra for it) The new water line was installed, it was covered with sand and the excavation was backfilled with processed gravel in the driveway and the excavated soils everywhere else (per our proposal.) During the installation a small landscape wall was found at the edge of the driveway (was covered in snow) it was left in place but during the installation of the new pipe. We removed about 5’ of the wall and placed the stones behind it so that the wall could be rebuilt. The wall was removed for the safety of the crew and so it did not fall in and damage the new pipe. As the crews excavated near the town shut off it required an extensive amount of hand excavation as the primary high voltage power, phone and cable lines for the entire street was directly above and between the water shut off valve. (This was not marked out or known about when we prepared the proposal, and we did not charge any additional costs to do this.) As this project had to be done (water was leaking out of the ground) it was done under less than favorable conditions (extensive amount of snow on the ground, water causing saturated soils, cold weather, frozen and snow covered materials. At the end of the first day I had supervised (member name removed) the driveway should not be paved right away. Even though we installed and compacted the processed gravel it had snow and frost in it, and the saturated ground around the areas was still going to settle. Toward the start of May (member name removed) had called complaining about the landscaping (which was not included in our proposal) He said “we will see about that”. The next call was when we are coming to pave the driveway. Our schedule was a little backed up at the time and we had called and him back on a Monday afternoon and left a message that we could do the asphalt paving on Friday but he needed to call back to confirm. I never heard back so I assumed that he was all set. I scheduled work for other customers. At the end of May (member name removed) called again and was told it would be about a month as we had just started another project. He started calling us a liar and was very irate and would not let us talk. He was asked to please listen but continued to talk over you. He was told that we were now going to end this conversation as it was going nowhere. My company strives to provide a quality service at reasonable price. We have never received a complaint like this from a customer. We take pride in the quality of our work and are constantly trying to maintain a clean and safe work area for our customers and employees. We try to leave our customers property in a clean, safe condition based on the proposed scope of work. I don’t yell and scream at our customers or my employees and I don’t feel that is something that any customer has the right to do towards us. That is why we hung up the phone and ended our conversation. (member name removed) was invoiced for the work we performed per the proposal and the paid the invoice within the 30 days with no complaints. (Please note that we did not take a deposit for the work) (member name removed) please read your entire proposal that you signed it clearly states that we did not include any landscaping. It also clearly states that we are not responsible for any damage to the driveway. Jason Hockman J. Hockman Inc.

Description of Work: They replaced the Dbox on my septic system. Not the cheapest quote for the job but they were punctual, did good work, and communicated well. The septic inspector was impressed that the roped off the area with orange snow fencing while waiting for the inspection
