 + -1 moreWe've used Shufro for at least 20 years. The system they installed is an alarm and set of monitored smoke detectors and heat sensors. What I've always liked is the personal service. This is not one of those big impersonal companies. On their rare cases when we need service the issues are taken care of promptly.

They trouble shooted my alarm problem over the phone at no charge. When they did come to my home to look at my overall system I was so impressed with their service I signed up to have them monitor my home alarm.
Description of Work: They fixed a fire alarm and replaced a battery.

 + -1 moreI was very impressed with everything! Very prompt in getting to our house. He was able to repair our system enough to use temporarily, then we had them replace some components and we are very happy with the results. It was just the kind of good service we needed at the moment.
Description of Work: I called for service to our existing system which was 25 years old and not working properly. My house had been broken into that day. We ultimately arranged for upgrades to our system.Rich Shufro came over not long after I placed the initial call.

 + -1 moreAfter researching, I wanted a local company to install and monitor a house alarm. Shufro called me back promptly, and came out for an estimate within a few days. He didn't try and oversell me, and just wanted to give me the system I needed, it has all the features I wanted, and is simple to use. They came out a week later and installed it in just over 2 hrs. I do have a very small house and didn't require anything elaborate.

 + -1 moreIt went very smoothly. My pet peeve is waiting for service people to show up but that was not the case here. They showed up right on time and performed everything expected. Note the cost reported is only for the battery. The initial set up was free b/c I am going to go with their monthly monitoring service which is $26/month. The service man also volunteered on his own to take off his shoes so he wouldn't track dirt/snow/salt throughout the house.
Description of Work: There was an existing alarm system at the house I recently moved to. But I had never set it up. The company that originally installed it is no longer in business so I called Shufro. They came and installed a new battery and reset the code and made sure all the door alarms were functioning.

 + -1 moreOnce we agreed to the price and project they were out within 2 days. They were very friendly and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and you would not have known they were here. They had to install all new smoke detectors to make them compatible with the alarm system and added a smoke detector in the boiler room. Everything works like a dream. Would highly recommend them and would use them again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: We needed our smoke detectors connected to our alarm system for insurance purposes. I called them based on several recommendations and their review on Angie's List. The next day they were at my home walking me through what was needed and making suggestions (i.e. Adding a smoke detector in the boiler room, one would think this would be a no brainer when the home was built!). He provided a verbal estimate while at our home but, came in lower once he was able to put pen to paper!

 + -1 moreFive appointments, including 2 no shows and one late, resulted in nothing being done. Instead of telling me to schedule an appointment, the manager should have called me to apologize and make it right. I still haven't heard from them and a new system is already installed, works beautifully and was done in 2 hours.
Description of Work: I was renovating the house last year and called Shufro in August 2007 to make sure the alarm system was working because they had installed it originally and were providing monitoring. They never called me back to set something up. I didn't follow up because we didn't have a land line working at the time. I called them again this summer to connect to the land line and they came out one Monday morning; the technician hooked up the phone line but said the system was not active because the board was not working and needed replacing. He promised to bring it Wednesday and install it. After I stayed home waiting for him, he didn't show up. When I called, the woman answering said he didn't communicate the appointment to her. We made another appointment for following Monday. Technician came and found the new board wasn't programmed properly. He claimed they were having computer programs at the office. He said he would re-program it and would come Wednesday. Again he didn't show up. Again the woman at the office didn't know about the appointment They promised to come Monday. Again the technician didn't show up. Turns out he was at a job in Brookline. They promised to get him to the house in half an hour. When he arrived, he said that the board wasn't going to work and that an upgrade was needed. He said the supervisor was supposed come out with him but due to the scheduling snafus, he wasn't there. Instead of apologizing for all this incompetence, he asked me to reschedule for the upgrade. I told him to just put the system back together. I called another company instead.

 + -1 moreRich Shufro himself came to give me an estimate and outline the options for security. I picked them because they were a local company, and put together their own parts, so they apparently know the bits inside and out. These guys know how to wire! They did a fantastic job outfitting the place with the systems needed. We did encounter quite a few problems in the first few months of service, however, with many, many false alarms--we were doing some renovations on the 2nd floor before moving in, but wanted the alarm system to protect the expensive power tools, supplies, etc. that were already in the house. During these troubles, they were quite responsive, but it was rather a pain to troubleshoot. Ended up replacing the "brain" of our system, and at least 2 faulty motion detectors before the problem was solved. We also had to get a letter to send to our local police department to get out of the $200 fine for too many false alarms requiring police response.
Description of Work: Installed an alarm system with 2 door contacts, 2 wireless window contacts, 2 motion detectors, 2 sirens, and 3 keypads in a 100-year old Victorian home. Contract for monitoring $18/month.

 + -1 moreI've used them for years. They are small. It s a minimal service, but it's fair, and it works for me. I mean, I have the most basic alarm system there could be, but from what I understand, this company can put in the motion detectors for you and everything like that if you want that type of service, too. I have been very happy with them, and I have no plans of finding a new alarm company any time in the near future.
Description of Work: This company installed the alarm system that protects my 1700 square foot home. I got a plan with them where I get a keypad that protects the house.

 + -1 moreThey have always been prompt, courteous, and ready to make suggestions and explain options. They dislike our system but do the work anyway, which I doubt is particularly profitable for them. We would use them to upgrade or change the system when the time comes.

 + -1 moreI CHOSE SHUFRO BECAUSE OF THE LOW FEE (VS. $25/MO). WHEN FIRST CONTACTED, THEY RESPONDED QUICKLY AND SET ME UP FOR SERVICE. A MONTH LATER I CALLED ABOUT A CONCERN. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK. I CALLED AGAIN A MONTH LATER. AGAIN THEY DIDN'T CALL BACK. THEN I SENT A LETTER BUT DIDN'T RECEIVE A REPLY FOR WEEKS. EVENTUALLY THEY CALLED AND SAID LETTER WAS MIS-DELIVERED AND THEY JUST RECEIVED IT. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT MY ALARM WENT OFF BY ACCIDENT AT LEAST 4 TIMES ON DIFFERENT DAYS AND I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. THIS LED ME TO BELIEVE OUR HOUSE WAS NOT BEING MONITORED, ALTHOUGH WE WERE HOOKED UP AND PAYING FOR SERVICE. I LOST CONFIDENCE IN THE COMPANY DUE TO THIS. WHEN I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE ABOUT ANOTHER CONCERN (THE INSTANT MODE ON THE ALARM SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING ANYMORE) THEY TOLD ME I DIDN'T NEED THAT FEATURE AND THAT THEY SOMETIMES TELL CUSTOMERS THAT THIS FEATURE DOESN'T WORK! FOUND OUT RECENTLY MY SYSTEM HAS 15 SECOND DELAY BEFORE TRIGGERING CALL CENTER. SHUFRO NEVER TOLD ME.
Description of Work: ALARM SYSTEM WAS HOOKED UP FOR MONITORING SERVICE. NO CHARGE FOR SET UP (KEEP IN MIND I HAD AN EXISTING ALARM SYSTEM). THERE IS AN $18/MONTH MONITORING FEE.

AND HE EVEN DOES THE INSTALLS TOO!THEY ARE VERY GOOD AT SNAKING THE WIRES THROUGH THE WALLS SO IT LOOKS AS IF IT IS ORIGINAL TO THE HOUSE. WE HAD OUR SYSTEM INSTALLED DURING MARCH SO THE DOORS WERE LEFT OPEN DURING THE INSTALL. MAKE SURE YOU GO AROUND AND CLOSE THEM. A RATHER SMALL INCONVENIENCE.
