Western Construction Inc

We were referred to Western Construction by a provider that we had contacted for another portion of our project. We were impressed by the responsiveness of Western Construction (always responded within 1 business day) and felt that the price quoted was fair. We would have used Western had it not been for the contract terms. In their standard contract, there is a provision related to you (the person contracting for the work) to pay attorney's fees of Western Construction in the event of a dispute that goes to legal proceedings. I asked that this provision be removed or modified such that both parties are protected in the event of a legal dispute. For example, if I sued Western for services not completed or not to code, I could also sue for legal fees. They checked with their attorney and refused to remove or modify this provision. For this reason, I would not use Western Construction as the contract was unbalanced and put significant risk on me while affording no protections.

Both projects were superbly completed. I would definitely use Western again

I have an 11 room single family home. We had two workers from Western Construction Inc. that installed ALL new gutters this week . They were extremely hard working, courteous and never took breaks during 30 degree weather. I have background in construction, so I'm very picky when others do work on my house. I am more than pleased with their work! Actually my wife and I are very happy. Neighbors even commented how hard they worked and how great the house looks. I am so glad that I chose Western Construction over other bids, which were much higher than WCIs - definitely would hire them for any additional work I may need in the future. I had two knee replacements, so I can't do what I once could. Brendon came out to look at the job within a day or two after my initial contact and had my estimate shortly after that. I had some questions come a few times before the work was started so I emailed WCI and my contact there was Natilia who got back to me promptly with answers to my questions. WCI was definitely great to work with and would surely do business with them again. Although I do wish I had more contact with Brendon with follow ups. I do like to be in contact with whom I started with. Thank You WCI and two workers (sorry I don't remember there names) for a great job.

I have used them before and they are recommended by Angie's List. I believe the person who came out was named Brendan. They really knew what they were doing and did a very neat and professional job. They seemed very efficient, worked hard and got it done quickly exactly when they said they would. They stayed within the estimate. We have relied on this contractor before.

It was easy to schedule an estimate with Western Construction, but it took a while for the work to start. This may have been due to the busy summer schedule but we had to chase frequently for information on a possible start date. The office assistant made a number of errors on the quotes so do check your paperwork. Once the work started, things went quickly and efficiently. The quality of materials and workmanship are really very good. They cleaned up the work area well.

Brendan responded in a timely manner when I called to discuss having work done. After that they kept me posted by email regarding materials and a start date. Brendan was on sight with the crew on day 1. We went over the details of each job with the site manager. The crew was prompt, courteous, did a thorough clean up at the end of each work day. They set uniformly high standards for the work being done. Brendan kept me well informed of the adjusted schedule when we had to work around rain delays. He touched base by phone to make sure that things were progressing to my satisfaction. Once the windows were installed, he checked them carefully and then gave me instructions regarding cleaning etc. We were totally satisfied with all the work done.

They did not nail in some of the boards. I called them to come back and an employee rang on the bell and said there were no problems he could see, so I showed him. He ended up using different sized nails than before. He was trying to convince me it had to be this way instead of replacing it properly. They ended up spilling concrete on our driveway and it is cracking. This in turn made other jobs more expensive. He offered to come fix it but didn't because he thought it would make it look worse. They also cleaned my gutters and did not clean up after themselves. He tried to convince me the leaves were already there. Instead of picking up the mess, he gave me a discounted price. He did do a good job at cleaning the gutters though. They got our second and third story gutters cleaned.

I had a good experience with them. They were super easy to work it. They worked collectively. The guys were really polite and really tidy. They cleaned up everyday. They had a lot of great ideas. They felt confident that they would be able to save the siding even thought it's really, really, really old. They were able to save some important facets, like the primary beam. And there were actually three pieces that they couldn't save, we didn't even know that they have done this, but they actually put in three flaps or whatever of cardboard to match what we had and they painted it and they left us the paint. And that's the only reason we knew that they had done that, because they had left the paint, because otherwise it was a perfect match and it looked great. I never knew when they were coming and it didn't really concern me, I just felt very confident that they would come and they would do the job.

Waited for estimate, never got it. Turns out, they mis-wrote my email address!

We had used the services of Western Construction previously for gutter cleaning, deck railing repair, and repair of window flashing and replacement of rotted trim on the deck in 2008. In the summer of 2010 we asked the company to repair and paint window frames and repaint a portion of ceiling with water damage. After the inspection of the house for its sale we again used the services of Western Construction to replace part of a beam in the basement with termite damage and to repair the flashing on a vent pipe on the roof (12/02/2010). The contractor, Brendan Morrissey, was very prompt at answering our calls, providing estimates and arranging to do the work. He used a small crew, but they were extremely efficient. Mr. Morrissey himself was very serious and formal. We liked his work and his approach.

cThis is a very late review, but better late than never. The service was done in December 2011. There was a very bad gutter leak that is causing water to seep through our basement. I had called another company before that told us initially to replace all the gutters and then refused to do the job as they said they do not do that kind of work. Then I called Western company. Mr Morrisey came and gave us a quote. He pointed out the exact gutter problem and make recommendations to replace bad downpipes. We got a quote and agreed. A young man came. He was very professional and pleasant. He fixed the problem gutters, put gutter guards all around the house and replaced bad downspouts. Since they did the repair, replacement and cleaning, the basement leaking stopped. A year later now, we had heavy rains and we had no basement leaks. We highly recommend them for gutter works.

It went very well. After a bit of a delay, they came and did the work we had agreed on. They were courteous and quick and the clean up afterward was very good.

The administration is very good an responsive. They hire people that don't speak English well. The pantry shelves that they built looked great. There was a problem with one of them but they came back and fixed it. To heat finish the shelves, the guy took them into my garage in mid winter. They connected 3 space heaters, blew a circuit breaker, and they weren't going to tell me about it. I think if I had more work to do, I would call them again. The administrator and his wife were fine and the work was fine.

After moving out of my house and preparing it for rent, the new renters spotted a leak. I called in various contractors to dry out the premises, and then called Brendan to do the final repair work. He came to meet with me and examined the area in detail, identifying areas of flawed design that led to the eventual leak problem. He gave me several recommendations for what repair work to be done and executed quickly, trying to meet a deadline for when the renters would be able to move in. After fixing the water damage, I decided to sell the house instead of renting so I also engaged Brendan and Western Construction to do work on the rest of the house. He gave me a great price on refinishing the wood floors (about 1000-1200 square feet worth) and had creative suggestions on how to save money on the exterior paint job while still doing a quality job. He refused to cut corners and I was overall quite happy with the work. In addition to being a general contractor, Brendan is himself a carpenter and the quality of the final work really shows this. He was very accommodating with getting pictures of what he was doing so I could track progress, and also helping me get pictures to the insurance agent for the final work that was done. He was also flexible in working with me to get payment from the insurance agency, and in giving me necessary paperwork for some legal matters. Overall it was a very positive experience, and I would recommend him for any sort of contracting work you may have. This company belongs on the Page of Happiness.

The crew was extremely kind, respectful and easy to work with. They were understanding of our chocolate lab, ensured that my apartment was fine to live and work in while they were there. They were also very clean - it almost seemed as though they hadn't been there. Finally Brendan was very willing to work with me until I was happy. He quickly had one of his crew come back to readjust the dryer as it had been placed slightly off of the metal mat and he also came to my house three or four times with different tiles (driving back and forth from a job on the cape) to find a tile I liked. He never made me feel like I was being too picky and always said to me, "I just want to whatever to make you happy with the job." Although I knew he had many concurrent jobs I felt as though I was the only one having work done:)

Brendan Morrissey approaches his work with a strong degree of professionalism. His recommendations were excellent and appropriate for the job. The workmen who came to the site were polite, efficient and completed the work in a timely fashion. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality of the work.

This was the third time I used the services of Western Construction Company. Previously they had made repairs on a deck railing and trim damaged by water, repainted trim and a part of the ceiling of the dining room damaged by water. I first requested work performed in 2010 to improve the appearance of the house in order to put it up for sale. The results were excellent. When the house was in the sale process, the building inspector brought several issues to our attention which had to be resolved for the sale. The most daunting was replacement of a beam with termite damage that supported a bay window. We had a significant time constraint because the work had to be completed within about a month and a half before the closing. Mr. Morrissey came and gave an estimate. The estimate was $1,500.00 less than that of another contractor, and because Western Construction's previous work had been very good, we asked them to do it. They completed the work in the basement in about four days. Later, while our move was in process, they came and repaired the vent pipe leak. Both Mr. Morrissey and his work crews were very professional, courteous and efficient.

No response to request for service.

The job was smooth. I never met them as the came when I wasn't home. The job was well done and the price seemed fair.

Estimate 7/7/2011. Work to be done 7/16/11. Work was done (mostly) 7/25/11. What was done was done acceptably well. Left a few damaged shingles. $995 bill for $495 balance sent 7/27/11: did not show $500 installment that cleared 7/18/11.

Brendan Morrissey, the President of Western Construction was prompt in providing a bid and responsive to my questions and concerns. The individuals who did the work were skilled and flexible. When I requested a change in the style of posts they had installed, they called Brendon and then made the changes I asked for - no back and forth they just fixed things, making sure I was happy with the results. All the projects were well implemented and improved both the entrance to my home as well as the back of my house, the lintel over the back door adds a nice finishing touch. The work also improved the functioning of my house - the gutters and new rubber roofs work perfectly. At the first heavy rain I worried they might have missed some holes in the drain pipe but they caught and repaired all leaks.

Brendan's crew did beautiful, timely work. We had a mild winter working in our favor, but they kept working as if it was going to snow the next day (which it never did). They were always early, never disruptive. Brendan is diplomatic and patient (and we certainly put him to the test!)

The person who runs the company, his name is Brendan Morrissey. He is very charming and personable. He is an interesting guy. The actual execution of it was a little bit disappointing. Overall, it was okay. In all the trades these days are that they are under enormous pressure of time to get things done faster, to get in and out, and to schedule things in such a way that they don't have a dead time. First of all, it took a while after I accepted his initial offer before they got here. It was a little uncertain, exactly when it was going to be. There were a lot of ways in which the two younger men did their work. It seemed to be a result of inexperience and being in a rush. I felt like that I have to oversee them. I needed to make sure that they were making no mistakes, and they were doing the work properly, so that there wasn't any clatter or damage done. They didn't always have the necessary tools and equipment to do what they wanted. They set up some gutters to paint, and they put them on blocks that were there in my garden rather than having them on their sawhorses. There were paint on the garden, and paint on the blocks. When they painted the gutter, there's one face of the gutter that faces the fascia board that nobody ever sees, so they didn't paint it. One of the functions of the paint is not just to look nice, but also to actually protect and preserve the wood from the water and getting rotten. I noticed that, and I asked them to paint the back. There were things like that where I felt like I couldn't be confident that in every regard they were doing this in the best way, with care and intelligence. They were like doing it and being on their way. When I mentioned some of these things to the head of the business, he came out and he took a look. He said some things to them and they were then shaken up a little more after that. As far as, I can tell the gutter seems to be fine with the work they did; but my experience with them was that I had to be on top of them and watch. They were better than average, but not superior to the quality of their work. Sometimes, they were responsive and sometimes they were not.
