Oscar's Moving Co

Arrived at the end of the 2 hour window that had been arranged. Got right to work. Were careful, neat and polite. Price was as quoted. The only problem was that I had to pay a 1.5 hour min. for 45 mins of work.

The employees showed up on time and were ready to work. I explained where furniture was going. I explained how the furniture could go into the kitchen. They were able to puzzle the furniture into the kitchen very efficiently. They did a great job and worked quickly and efficiently throughout. Our two bureaus were damaged. I'm not sure if that was when they were moved upstairs or when the furniture was moved back into place in May. When the railing was damaged, one of the employees quickly found me and had me look at the damage and sign a waiver. The walls were damaged as well. I guess these are not covered though. I will look for that when looking for a mover in the future. I was happy not to move this furniture myself and they did get the job done.

I would recommend them. They were very prompt in getting back to me. They had reasonable prices and they were very efficient and very flexible.

lWe had a decent experience with Oscar's. Friends of ours had a horrible experience prior with scratched floors, multiple large holes in the walls etc. Our experience was much better, but they said they would arrive between 10 and 12, closer to 10. They arrived at 12:45. Now part of that was our fault, they had written a slightly wrong address down that we didn't catch until the day of, but that would have put them there 30 minutes earlier. This lateness also cost us over $200 in additional travel fees because they hit later hours on 93. They also arrived over an hour later than I did at the same address. What I would say:1st, make sure you will be their first appointment of the day.2nd, tell them that you want them to take their time and that less damage is WAY more important than rushing.3rd, tell them EXACTLY which way you want them to drive to get to your destination. Would I use them again? Maybe, but after the horrible experience they provided to our friends, we were even more stressed, which isn't something you want during a move.

As I mentioned, my girlfriend and I moved to Newton from two different locations (West Roxbury and Brookline respectively). The crew of Melvin, Mike and Ovidio arrived at my place at about 8:45 AM. They were very friendly as they each introduced themselves upon arrival. They hustled in an out of the building and were incredibly fast which is definitely something we appreciated given that we are paying by the hour. They had all my stuff on the truck in just a little over an hour. Then left for my girlfriends place in Brookline. She lived in the attic of a big old house with a narrow staircase which we thought would pose a problem for the movers but it turned out that they had no problem what so ever. Then it was on to our new house where they had everything moved in by 1PM. These three guys were excellent! I hope that we will not be moving again any time soon but if we do, I would not hesitate to use Oscar's again and will definitely recommend this company and our personal team of Melvin, Mike and Ovidio to others in the future.

They were really great to work with overall. They showed up on time, were prompt, courteous, and did a good job.

Very smooth. Everyone at Oscar's Moving was professional: the office staff and the movers. I called on Wednesday. The office staff gave me a quote and scheduled the work on Sunday starting between 2 and 4 PM. Then they emailed a contract, which I signed and faxed back with my credit card. All very professional. Answered the phone promptly and warned me about the minimum of 2.5 hours since my job was small. Still, the price was good. The movers called on Sunday at 1:10 PM to say that they were on their way and would arrive shortly after 2 PM. They did. We reviewed the documents and they carefully loaded the fridge on their truck. We drove to the drop-off site and they dropped it off without incident. The movers made this fairly simple job look easy. They were careful and exceedingly courteous. Perfect!

Great!!! guys arrived on time i was shocked at how fast they moved, and very happy i went with 4 guys instead of the standard 3, 2 guys moved furniture while 2 loaded boxes with precision, like a puzzle. Made the move a lot faster. very polite cleaned up removed tape set up my dining rm table and beds never lost their temper like the other moving company we used. i can't say enough about the guys. I had all my boxes labled so when we got to our destination it made it easier and faster so they knew where the boxes were going.

It was a great experience from start to finish. Their move coordinator, Alan, took a lot of time on the phone to understand my needs and the amount of stuff I wanted to move. He wrote me a very reasonable estimate. The movers showed up exactly on time and worked very efficiently. They did a great job moving out of a third-floor walk-up without bumping the walls. The whole move went like clockwork and the crew was finished more than two hours ahead of schedule. Since (like most movers) they charge by the hour this saved me hundreds of dollars off the original, reasonable estimate. I can't recommend Oscar's Moving Co. highly enough!

I called on Saturday and was amazed that Oscar's had an opening the following day. They called, as promised, half an hour before showing up, and then showed up right on time. The two moving guys, Randy and Jorge, were awesome--very professional and efficient. We were prepping and staging for an open house, so . They had everything out in about 30 minutes and delivered it all to our storage unit nearby. All around great experience, and we'll definitely use Oscar's for our "real" move this summer.

They seemed to be honest and punctual with us and didn't give us any unfair charges.

Randy and Jorge did an excellent job. They both were careful, efficient and well trained for their jobs. Furthermore, they were really nice guys!

Under normal circumstances Oscar's might have been okay. But when a company shows up with a U-Haul truck it should have been a warning sign that I was getting second-string, maybe because I was moving only a mile. The man in charge was obviously a pro and the other two appear to have been hired at the last minute, like the truck, when Oscar realized he had too much work that day. All morning, while loading the truck, the man in charge was giving instructions to the other two. After they finished loading the truck they took a lunch break. The boss returned and told me he had received a call that his father was in the hospital, and the other two would finish the job. They were as nice as could be, but had no idea how to handle the work. When I had suggested in the morning that the boss label the nine drawers of a cabinet he said not to worry; he knew which drawer went where. So in the afternoon one of the other guys and I spent close to an hour trying to figure out where to put each drawer. I had several large pieces of furniture and they had no idea how to handle them. I delayed in writing this because I was sympathetic to the problem, but as time has gone on I've become increasingly aware of all the damage they did. Among the many items: a cabinet door was misaligned, a hole was banged into a door, walls were scraped, and the floor was scratched in many places. Oscar did reduce the price, but I didn't realize at the time how much damage there was.

The team was excellent - very professional, very personable and very good at moving furniture without damaging the new or the old house. We had some minor scratches - likely due to the fact that we filled the whole truckl I would highly recommend them to anyone. They were better price wise than all the others I checked (gentle giant, caseys, etc) and I can't imagine getting any better service. I did move all of the fragile stuff myself.Also, I recommend buying the guys lunch if you have them all day!

We had a great experience with Oscar's! We have never worked with movers before, so read reviews on Angie's list and Oscar's was the first company we called. We arranged our move with Alan - he was very nice and helpful and answered all of our questions completely; he also gave me advance warning about paperwork you sign in advance of moving - it's not complicated, but if you haven't moved before, it's a surprise, so I appreciated knowing up front that it was standard, etc. Our 3 hour window was 12-3, and we got a call that morning seeing if we could do it earlier, which was great. We were supposed to meet at 11:30, but the movers arrived at 12 b/c of construction in front of our building - they didn't have our cell number as the number to call, but it wasn't a big deal and as soon as we called the office, they got in touch with the movers and they came right over. As planned, there were 2 men. They were both very friendly and helpful, explained at the outset how it worked, asked for our preferences with wrapping etc., and got to work. They were very careful with everything and worked very quickly. They came right along to the new house and applied the same care to unloading and setting things up. The estimated time and cost was right on, and the Angie's list coupon was applied as discussed. Thank you Oscar's!

Update: We filed this report more than a year after the move took place (Angie's had reminded us we had incomplete reports on file). We initially had a negative experience with Oscar's, and reported it as such (see below), but they have since contacted us and sought to remedy the situation. Oscar's said that if we had reported the problems to management at the time of service, they would have made immediate arrangements to rectify our concerns; I believe that to be true. After receiving our report, Oscar's handled the situation very professionally and fairly. Our initial report was that we did not have a good experience overall. The movers arrived late into the designated arrival window and moved slowly both in packing up and unpacking at the new house. My husband ended up helping move a significant number of items because he wanted them to move faster since we were paying by the hour. One of the movers seemed to appreciate this and picked up the pace. The other did not and seemed annoyed at the implication he was not moving fast enough. The team also took a long lunch and tried to charge us for that time. Taking both experiences into account, we have changed the Responsiveness category from grade D to B and the Professionalism category from grade C to B. We appreciate local business trying to do the right thing for their customers.

Very good price compared to another top rated Angie's List mover. Great response and service from my initial phone call through the move. Good two man crew. They were delayed and called ahead of time to say they would be a couple hours late which was OK with us.

The move went well. The movers were friendly and polite. When they told me the price would be different than discussed with "Will" I showed the mover in charge, Walter, my email from Will in which the job was discussed in detail. Walter attempted to reach "Oscar" without success. The wall unit was moved according to plan. I had some confusion re: the total amount due at the end of the job so I paid by check and spoke with office personnel later in the day. We exchanged a few emails and Oscar, the owner of the company, called me to follow up. Everything was resolved quickly and easily.

On Sept. 1st, I called Oscar's Moving to move my daughter from her 3rd floor apartment in Somerville to her new apartment in Brighton. I wanted a late move because my daughter had to work all day, so I requested 6 pm. They called about 5 and wanted to come early, and I explained that they couldn't and they showed up at 6. They carried all the furniture and packed up all her clothes and moved everything down 3 flights of stairs into their truck. When we arrived at the new apt. they moved everything back in. The men were pleasant and very helpful. I have already referred them to friends who are also moving.

They were wonderful! They were bright, smart, and fast! They were easy to talk to and very polite, respectful and clean!

We called Oscar on a Tuesday to schedule a move for between 1 and 3 p.m. on the following Friday afternoon. (September 2). We gave them a one-hour's worth deposit ($119) and faxed in the contract. The move was from a 5' x 10' storage unit to a room in a rental house. On the Friday, we waited for a call from the moving team, which was supposed to be 2 hours prior to their arrival to pick up our stuff. At 1 p.m., I called Oscar and he said he would contact the team. He did not call me back. I called again and got his assistant. I stayed on the line while he tried to reach the team. He was unable to do so. At 2:45 p.m., I called him again and he said the team was on their way. The team called at 3:15 p.m. and said they would be there in an hour. We moved the stuff out of the storage unit. The 3-man team (we had asked for 2) arrived around 4:10 p.m. They were nice and friendly. They moved our stuff into the van in 15 minutes, we raced each other to Somerville (during a holiday weekend getaway time) and they moved the stuff into the house in 20 minutes. Because we were charged based on time, they charged us one-half the estimate because they got done so fast! The 3 guys were fast, cheerful and polite.

They gave me the best quote. They were straight forward with pricing. They also put in an Angie's List coupon.

I used Oscar's previously and dealt with a dispatcher named John. Unfortunately John is no longer there. William, the new dispatcher, was not easy to work with, but in the end there was no major problem. He just was not too personable, but the job got done. I had to move over a weekend to reduce the amount of time I had to take off work. Ovidio and another young man came on a Sunday to pack the truck and anything that I was unable to pack myself. They were extremely polite and very helpful. They were there almost 3 hours later than planned, but not a problem for me. They were to take the truck across the state the next morning, but we did not agree on a time. They gave me Oscar's home phone and I left a message saying that a 9:30 or 10:00 AM departure for the destination would be good. I was exhausted and overslept. I called the company at about 9:00 AM saying that I would not be leaving until about 11:00 AM. I spoke with Eric, and he said he would get the message to the appropriate people. Well, I was on the road, doing 85 mph, when William called me and I felt I was being scolded that I was late and the moving men (Ovidio and his partner) were almost there. I told him that I was driving as fast as I could, and that since I was paying, any delay was on "my dime". Later I found out that he must have been upset since he had assigned the moving men to go to another state that afternoon after my move! So the problem was that he had over-scheduled his men, as far as I'm concerned. Ovidio and his partner moved me into my apartment and then took several marked boxes to a storage unit. They were polite and helpful in all they did. So overall, I had a good experience except with William. He called me on a Friday to say that he had to send me the contracts to sign. But it was late in the afternoon, I was leaving that evening and I had no access to a printer or to a fax machine. This seemed to make him very unhappy although I had been a previous customer quite recently and had made my payments and agreements without problems. I would definitely use Oscar's again, but I hope I don't have to work with William again! And I hope I don't have to move again! BTW, if there was an Angie's List or senior discount, no one alerted me. And I didn't check with Angie's list to see if there were any discounts this time.

In addition to being 1.5 hours late, the crew unpacked at my new place in a very haphazard and rushed manner, damaging two pieces of furntiture, scratching new hardwood floors in multiple places, and generally creating a mess. However, most offensive in the process was 2 very large framed portraits that were not delivered. Two weeks later after numerous phone calls, Oscar's returned the portraits, which were apparently "left on the truck". The portraits were badly scratched, and yet despite having failed to deliver my items, maintaining my possessions for 2 weeks without contacting me, and damanging the pictures in the process, Oscar's management was very difficult to deal with and ultimately failed to remed the situation. A decent crew of movers, but a very unprofessional management team.
