Oscar's Moving Co

We ended up going with a different company, but Oscar's was a very close 2nd. Very professional and provided a thorough assessment. The estimates were very similar with the other company, and Oscar's hourly rate was actually a little lower. We chose the other company because we thought both companies's duration estimates were a little high (better to err on the high side) and we were able to get free boxes and free box delivery. Don't think we would have been disappointed choosing Oscar's however.

Oscar's Moving Company move coordinator Alan Tedeschi was a delight to work with. The "can-do" attitude and his prompt response immediately gave me confidence that I could meet the short turnaround I needed. The two men sent to pack, wrap and move my furniture, Shawn and Andy, were prompt and courteous. They handled everything with great care and impressed me with their teamwork. Every bit of the furniture was padded and taped up - they created furniture mummies essentially and as a result when they returned the furniture and re-assembled it, it was perfect. Not one ding or scratch! I HIGHLY recommend this company to any and all, large or small jobs. They are careful, reasonably priced, excellent movers!

Movers showed up on time,good attitudes, very polite. They hustled all the time.Never stopped for a brake. I highly recommend this company. I got this company from Angie's list and was not disappointed.

They were pretty good. They were quite friendly and got everything done.

We had four movers who NEVER stopped the entire time. They were very patient with us, as not all of our boxes were labeled, as to where to place each item moving it off of the truck into our house. We bought them lunch and they barely took a 15 minute break to eat and got right back to work. They had wrapped everything very securely and the only three items were damaged for the entire move, which were items not packed very well by us and not their fault in the least. Both crews we worked with were super polite and professional. Out of all of the movers we requested quotes from, Oscars was the most responsive and helpful during this transitional period in our lives. I would use them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to any of our friends or family.

It was seamless and an overall very enjoyable experience. All three of Oscar's employees were polite and helpful, and they worked efficiently. I felt very confident that they were taking excellent care of my furniture and other possessions. They put the furniture in the new house in a careful and thoughtful manner. It was clear that they were interested in making it a positive experience, which meant a lot to me, as I am a single mom and felt nervous about the move.

Alan was very thorough in discussing the details of the move and providing an estimate. I called him the day before the move to say that we would need help packing and he said that would not be a problem (we originally thought we'd have everything packed up and ready to go). The crew arrived right on time and began work promptly. They worked tirelessly throughout the morning and early afternoon to get everything loaded up in the truck and then took a short break for lunch (which they deducted from the hours billed) before heading over to the new house to unload. Of note, I thought that the foreman very good at leading his crew and was very professional. Overall, the move was completed without any major issues. Our back steps, which are made of wood, sustained minor damage in a few areas as the movers used that route to carry most of the furniture and boxes into the house. Also, a few pieces of furniture were a little wobbly after the move but they were pieces we got from IKEA so it was to be expected. I don't really see either of these issues as being unexpected or unreasonable during a major move so it didn't influence how I rated the company. The cost for the job was more than our original estimate (around a $400 overage) which I thought was acceptable given the time needed to finish packing and some stuff in our basement that I'd forgotten to factor into the original inventory. All of these things added up to about 2.5 additional hours Overall, I was really pleased with the service provided and would use this company again or recommend them to friends.

Unfortunately, the best I can say for Oscar's is that their service appears inconsistent. Initially, they were very responsive to our requests for quotes and updates on the furniture we would be moving. When we called the day before to say we would need help packing, they added a 6th man to our 5 man crew to help pack. We were significantly partially packed when the movers arrived and they sent a 6 person crew. They sent 2 trucks, but one truck was smaller than that promised in our contract (when we made the contract the dispatcher even confirmed with us that other companies had also said we needed the 2 trucks of the same size, but this didn't seem to be what we got). The packers seemed very slow in our opinion for the packing portion and seemed to take things out of some of the furniture locations we had put them for transport and put them in boxes. They also packed our indestructible safe--which I would consider a piece of furniture--in a box. We were a bit confused as to where the time went while they were packing until we started unpacking and realized they had done things like wrap plastic cooking utensils and plastic lids in paper. They didn't finish our move on the first day because the truck size wasn't correct (if they had sent the 2 trucks promised then there is no doubt in my mind they would have finished it that day, so their initial estimate of truck size was on the money). They required us to sign off on payment that first night (they had already promised to do the second trip for free to make up for having not sent the right size truck) even though the move wasn't complete. When we asked when they would complete the move we were told the morning of the day after the next. When we said we actually needed to know a time they would arrive before we would feel comfortable with finishing it in two days, a mover said someone would call us the next morning to tell us when the next crew would arrive the day after that to move the rest of our stuff. As the first crew drove off we noticed they had left a white potty seat on the ground, all scratched up. The next morning came and went with multiple messages to their office (we later learned that no one staffs the office on the weekends usually so if you call there is no one there, so maybe their mover was mistaken as to when they would call). Panicked about finishing the move, we decided to rent a Uhaul and try to move the rest of our stuff ourselves. I wrote a negative review on Angie's List based on the service we had received thus far. When we arrived at our old house 2 days after our first move, we found that the original movers had left what we would consider a little bit of mess, including a smashed lightbulb on the floor, etc. and had not completely packed everything. I began to pick up items from the floor and put them in a box. In frustration, I called their office again (now mid-morning the morning they initially said they would complete our move). This time someone answered the phone because they decided to put someone in the office on Sunday because it was a busy weekend. I described the situation and that we hadn't heard anything about the 2nd crew that was meant to complete our move. He said he would call the owner and get back to me and reassured me that he would answer the phone whenever I called that day (to his credit, he did so). When I heard back from him, he said the owner was initially intending to call me that morning about completing my move, but then he read my Angie's List review and, well, we therefore hadn't heard anything to that point (it was explained in a bit more detail). It was then communicated to me that if I would remove my Angie's list review (which detailed, without limit, the fact that they hadn't yet completed the move and more details about our dissatisfaction with the way the move was conducted--many not included here), they would finish my move. I agreed to modify the review to reflect whatever our total experience was after they finished the move because I wouldn't want to leave up a review that said they didn't finish the move if they did finish the move (I said if modification were not possible, I would remove the prior review . . . in the end I removed the original review and am posting this modified review). Promptly, within an hour or so a new crew was sent to our house. The 2nd crew was better and faster than the first and I would want the 2 new guys on this crew to be my movers almost any day. The new guy who seemed to be in charge, though, took a look at our house from which we moved and said they shouldn't have left it that way and also said it shouldn't have taken as long as the move did a couple days before (he reiterated this again when he saw the amount and number of boxes and furniture at our new house which had been moved by the first crew). But, of course, he wasn't there on the original crew. The 2nd crew was a 4 man crew and included 2 guys from the original crew. The 2 new guys seemed much faster, however, and we wished we had them for our first leg of the move. They had totally completed the 2nd leg of our move--including moving outdoor furniture and a washing machine--and cleaned up the mess that the 1st crew left in under 2 hours. They were very much trying to make things right, it seemed. So, it seems that the service from this company may depend on the crew you get for movers. I wouldn't hire them again for 3 primary reasons (other than the emotions I experienced that weekend caused by the experience of these movers) (1) speed of initial crew and how they packed items, which did not meet our expectations (2) our perceived lack of or tardiness of communication from the movers about when the 2nd leg of our move was to be completed, (3) damage to a few items. They were willing to work on the price with us when we complained about how much they charged us, given the experience we had. To try to make up for our experience they gave us a significant discount on the original price and did the second leg of the move for free (which was promised the first day once they realized their error with not sending the second truck in the size promised). However, I wish we hadn't had all the emotional distress. In the end, we did get all of our stuff, I think. And, in the end, the way you get a better Angie's List review is by proving better service. We did receive better service on the 2nd leg of our move and this review reflects that. And, since they have many good reviews, I assume they usually do provide better service in total, which is why we hired them (i.e. based on the reviews). This review is better than my first because, in part, it reflects that they finished the move and the discount they gave us to make up for the way our move occurred. But, initially, the owner of the company didn't seem terribly apologetic about the service we received in the first leg of the move, however, and I was shocked to learn from the man staffing the office on Sunday about the owner's initial response to my having posted my first review (regarding finishing our move). If I owned the company, as soon as I read my initial review of this company, I would be shooting out of the gate to get in contact with someone who left my original review and apologizing up and down for the movers on the first leg and seeing how I could make it better. This was not what happened. When my husband did speak to the owner later about the price and our experience, the owner did mention he might modify their training and also said that he either had spoken to or would speak to the movers on our first leg of the move. I hope he does do that. Given that they have had many positive reviews on Angie's list, our experience may be a one off on a busy weekend for them. Using the other reviews are your guide, I would say don't NOT book Oscar's just because of my review. Hopefully, they will have fixed the issues we experienced and will be more along the lines of their other Angie's List Reviews.

Communication from Alan the coordinator was excellent and very professional. Movers showed up on time and moved us out within good time. Nothing was damaged. There was a little confusion about agreed pricing at the end, but all sorted out without any issues. Will use them again.

The four man crew arrived on time and had their two trucks packed within 2 hours. They drove to my new home, without taking a lunch break, and had me settled in my new home in under 5.5 hours. They worked as a team, were very accommodating, and cautious with my furniture and boxes. Oscar's far outdid my expectations, and I will recommend them to friends and family!

The team of three that we got was great. It was about 95 degrees and they kept working without breaks or complaining (can't say the same for myself). The price was higher than we expected, but that was more due to our ineptitude at packing than anything else. I would highly recommend to anyone needing movers. Very professional, cordial, and hardworking people!

We had a reservation on Friday from 12PM to 2PM. The crew came around 1:30 PM. They were friendly, professional and very careful to load and unload my stuff. The overall experience was very good and the price is reasonable. One thing I would consider for other people's future reference is that if you have lots of stuff, consider hiring extra men or even outside helper to load and unload the stuff. It might cost you a bit more for every hour, but will certainly save the overall time and maybe over cost. Overall, Oscar Moving is a professional company with good crew. I would recommend them to others.

The man that came did not seem very precise and did not know the names of many pieces of furniture! Despite emphasizing we needed a quote by email asap - we never received anything, by mail, phone or email. I was not impressed and would not recommend them as a professional company.

We used Oscar's two years ago when my daughter moved to Philadelphia. The guys did a great job then and so we hired them to move some of our furniture to a UHaul for my daughter's fiancé to take to Philly and to move/rearrange some furniture in our house. This time the movers did not make the trip to Philly. The movers were courteous and they were respectful of our belongings. They worked quickly and did a great job!

The move went great. The movers were very professional, and although it was not an easy move (the hot tub was very heavy), they all kept an upbeat attitude, and finished the move on time. Alan, in the office, was very professional, and was able to accommodate this difficult request with the same upbeat attitude as the movers. I would use Oscar's again in a flash.

I have to admit I have a lot of items that were collected over the years from work and my former roommate. My family and I made sure we had everything packed and stacked wall-to wall-- starting at the front of the apt. The team arrived later... but they called me and told me that in advance. The 2 crew members worked so hard... up-and-down the 3 flight of stairs. Always with a smile on their face and never taking a break!! With a medium truck completely packed they arrived at my new house earlier than I anticipated. I even teased them asking if they wanted to take a 1/2 for lunch-- but they said that they were fine. As they placed items in the new home, they were very patient and cautious (i.e.: They helped me position and reposition my sofa until it was in the best spot.) The crew worked from 1:30 to 3:30?very friendly, professional and helpful. It was a great price for the value!!! They did an awesome job...I would def. recommend them to friends!

We were scheduled for 3 movers but the previous job required 4 movers so we had an extra person making the job faster and less expensive. We did the packing and had many boxes ready to go, but not everything was boxed. They were very helpful and good natured about moving the things not in the boxes. They were also good about asking if we wanted furniture wrapped. And they knew we were Angie's list memebers and wanted to make sure they gave us especially good service because of that and they made sure we got their $50 Angies list discount.

2 movers were very friendly and carefully wrapped all pieces before loading them into the truck. The move into the new apartment went very smooth despite tricky stairway and narrow door openings with tight turns. the final cost was reasonably close to the original estimate, and overall I was very satisfied.

They were really efficient, fairly well priced, and extremely hard working. They were very personable, which is helpful for me as I'm a single woman and have them be so reassuring towards me. They had to sleep on the road in a hotel, but they were able to deliver my items to my new home Thursday morning. They also brought me a muffin and a latte from Dunkin' Donuts when they arrived at my new house.

My wife and I were moving from Stoneham to Methuen. I spoke with Alan from Oscar's several times as my closing date kept changing. Alan was great to work with and so accomadating. On the day of the move Emilo and his crew came. They called an hour before the 1 - 3 estimated arrival time to let me know they were going to be there around 1:30 which I thoughts was really great. When the team got to the condo we reviewed what was going, and they were off. The team was quick and with about 2.5 hours they had not only move everything onto the truck but broke down a china cabinet and dinning room table. Moving pads were put on all the furniture items and the 65 inch TV was handled with care. Because of our closing time we had to do a night of storage. The moving time estimate was between 2 - 4. The crew arrived at 4 PM and once again were quick and fast in getting everything into the house. Overall I can't say enough about my experience with Oscar's movers. I would highly recommend.

They were not prepared at all for this move. They did not have a big enough truck. It was a horrible experience. It was an absolute rush job to get everything in and moved. We were promised all these things which we did not receive. They literally had no room and I had leave behind a TV, work out equipment, and tool box. All in all on top of the damage the caused it cost another $300.

Oscar's was great - estimate was correct. Estimate said arrival between 7:30 and 9:30 and they called to give a specific arrival time that morning. The three guys worked super efficiently, were all nice guys, and were careful with our stuff. We had a couple of heavy tricky things (sleeper sofa, big awkward box spring) and they figured it all out. We were done with the actual move by midday. Oscar's made our move as easy as could be.
