Oscar's Moving Co

I had a good experience with them in moving my apartment in January. They're quick and professional. They're careful. They're just slightly expensive.

The movers did an awesome job. A lot of care was taken when disassembling and wrapping up. They worked hard and it was one of the hottest days of the summer. I would recommend them to anyone.

I had never used a moving company before and had a very good experience with the guys from Oscar's. They were very quick to reply to my request for an estimate and very professional in answering all my questions before the day of the move. The movers, Dave and Isaiah, were very courteous, quick, and efficient. The move went smoothly and I'd gladly recommend them again.

Movers arrived on time. Everything was going fine until two things happened. First, the hydraulic lift on the truck was not working, which of course slowed things down more than the 4 movers were initially wiling to admit. When they moved my antique upright piano, they literally moved it over a stone retaining wall where one of the boulders fell out of the wall onto the driveway. We were just so happy that none of the movers killed themselves moving a heavy and expensive piano this way, we did not say anything. Those of you who know about old farm retaining walls, when one rock falls out, others will soon follow. We had to call a mason to repair the wall and masonry is not cheap. When I called Oscar's, Oscar himself answered and when I explained that our furniture was being taken off the truck at 4 feet high because the lift was not able to operate and this was slowing stuff down (at $140 per hour, that's not insignificant), he offered to discount an hour. This was he right thing to do, but the wall the movers broke and the extra time it took to move things because of the broken lift AND I did not mention that the movers were waiting for another truck to arrive for over 40 minutes because they weren't sure they could get the piano in the broken truck, all cost me much more money than an hour's credit. We tipped each mover 50 bucks. Only 2 of the 4 really worked diligently the whole time. A third mover was ok and the 4th was young and was checking his texts when he initially arrived to help with the piano. The move cost me a lot of additional stress and lots of extra money to repair the wall that broke as a result of one of the movers standing on it while moving a 500 pound piano. I don't think it was this company's shining moment that day... our experience may not be representative of how things usually go with them, but nonetheless, everything I said is true and worth being put out there for future potential customers to note.

The original estimate was only $900.00. They ended up charging us almost double that cost, which turned out to have been an error on the part of the team leader. There were additional costs for bubble wrap, a wardrobe box, tape, and other materials, which we expected. As we were clearing my mother-in-law’s home hard upon her death, we’d carefully marked every box so that we could catalog everything appropriately for my out-of-state brother’s in law prior to interim storage, but each item was wrapped in moving blankets and cellophane, rendering everything a mystery. When asked, the team leader informed us that the items would remain this way until we came to collect them from storage and, given the sense of urgency that he implied-as if we were keeping him from another assignment, we didn’t have time to adjust and ID our things in some way for each sibling. Twice, they’d begun to drive away until we pointed out boxes that hadn’t been taken. We had to call them back a third time when we realized that they’d left our refrigerator, and they hurriedly got it on the truck without wrapping it for transport to our home. As a result, it arrived with a dent. We were consistently given a sense of impatience and resentment from the leader of the group, although the team members were fine. Knowing that it was a ‘bear’ of a move to resolve a lifetime of acquisition, we did our best to make it easy for them (trying to stay ahead and boxing things along with the movers), but they did not make it easy for us. We reported all of this to the company the same day, and spoke with our contact the following week. He explained that the greater cost was due to an error on the team leader’s part, and he assured us that it will be adjusted to reflect the original estimate, extra stop, and material use. When the team attempted to carry a 9’x4’ slab of granite horizontally, it bowed and snapped. Because we didn’t opt for the upgraded insurance, we were informed that the insurance would cover approximately half the original cost, as the loss is figured by weight at about sixty cents per pound. We will admit to having been a bit foggy with Sleep deprivation and Grief- and it didn’t help morale when my husband asked that an unexpected item be dropped at a separate site, but we were very disappointed. We were excited by the professionalism of our contact, and hope that our experience was truly an anomaly.

After a phone estimate, an onsite inspection, I received a quote quickly from Oscar's moving. pricing was in line with other I received, and peer reviews look encouraging. Scheduling the move was very easy, and I was informed of all the costs details right up front. Every thing was straight forward and honest. I was contacted before the move to confirm the date, and lo and behold on the final day, 4 guys in two trucks showed up and started work. The crew were efficient, respectful and careful. In all took about 7 hours to move. Everything made it fine.

The entire team at Oscars Moving Co was courteous and professional from the first phone call to the final move. The estimate was accurate. They provided all of the information that I needed in emails. And they did the work that was agreed upon. On the day of the move the guys from Oscar's Moving Co showed up on time and ready to work. I was moving from an older house into a brand new condo. The house has narrow doorways, low ceilings and a narrow stairway to the second floor which made the move challenging. To add to the difficulty, there were several heavy, awkward pieces located on the second floor. The guys from Oscar's Moving Co made it look easy. They approached each challenge with a positive attitude. They completed the move well within the estimated time while still taking the necessary care with my belongings. I would recommend Oscar's Moving to anyone moving in the Boston area.

I can't say enough about the crew sent to me from Oscar's Moving Company- Chris, Souen and Phal. They were professional, thoughtful, kind, punctual, and excellent at their jobs. They were inventive when we ran into a few problems dismantling an antique bed, and showed patience and thought. The guys worked well as a team, and were also able to handle the smaller tasks individually. Their approach toward me was impeccably polite, and they acted as though they fully appreciated they were delivering me and my "things" to a new life; that they knew this day was a very big deal to me, and it showed in how they handled each of my possessions with care and with thought. because they were so focused and so efficient, they did the job in far less time than estimated and they came in under budget as well. I would recommend this company, and especially the members of my team, without reservation and with great enthusiasm. They simply could not have done a better job.

The 5 man crew headed by Dave was prompt, courteous, and hard working. They gladly accommodated several of our special requests. Not a single item was damaged in any way. They actually came in under budget. Alan in the office was a pleasure to deal with throughout the bidding and negotiation process. In an industry that can feature some fairly sleazy practices, I felt from the beginning that these people were completely trustworthy. I don't want to move again any time soon but if I do I would hire these guys in a heartbeat.

Movers arrived promptly, packed the couch securely and were one their way with not fuss.

I will keep this short and sweet: they did the job on time, and for less than I expected. I called Oscar's ~2 weeks before the move to set up a day and time and they were polite and patient as I struggled to give them a basic inventory of the items in my apartment so they could calculate the time and numbers of movers needed to do the job. They broke down the costs and the time it would take to move my belongings and sent me a detailed estimate via E-mail (much appreciated). When it became apparent that I had more boxes and stuff than I had anticipated, I gave them a call and they had zero problem adding another person to the job, even though it was only 3 days before the move. On the day of the move, they arrived within the window they promised and were pleasant and polite. I especially liked the fact that all members of the crew introduced themselves (a very nice touch). They got right down to business and needed minimal directions from me. They obviously knew what they were doing and they packed the truck like true professionals. They packed my belongings, drove the ~12 miles to my new address, and unpacked in slightly less than four hours! They accepted my Angie's list coupon with no fuss and didn't damage my belongs or my new floors. All in all a nice bunch of guys who did the dirty job that needed doing. I will be using them again in the very near future when I retrieve items from of storage locker.

(The stairway is narrow, with a landing, railing, and 90° turn involved) A three-man crew arrived, and after several tries could not get the chest up the stairs either. After some consultation, we determined that we could get the chest in through a second-floor bedroom window. They removed the window and storm window, wrapped the dresser securely, and proceeded to bring the dresser up a tall ladder (ours)...one man above, pulling a strap, a second man below the dresser, bearing its weight, and the third spotting from the ground. They did a terrific job, put the dresser in place, and everything back in order. The dresser survived without a single ding or scratch. |They did a great job, efficiently, and carefully. I'd certainly hire them again.

They were excellent at listening to which pieces needed to go in which load, over the course of several months. They were extra careful of antiques, super strong yet gentle with moving packed boxes and didn't grumble when they had to move things on dollies up a steep hill. The money transactions went very professionally over the phone and online.

I have hired a lot of movers in the past. I liked that Oscar's was reasonably priced and the workers were personable! We enjoyed working with them so much that we bought them pizza afterwards. I would definitely hire them again because they were awesome to work with.

They were very good, in fact they were outstanding. They were helpful, polite, and I have no criticism to give.

Three men arrive earlier part of time allotted to arrive. Polite, efficient,professional .Most impressive working as a team.They worked quickly wrapping.padding.protecting all furniture and processions. They moved every thing out of home within an hour. The refrigerator wouldn't' fit through door so they had to haul and lift over back deck to alley.Not a problem.They came up with solution to the problem and succeeded in resolving it first The truck broke down in Maine.they stopped billable travel hours.New truck brought up from Boston to Maine.My stuff swapped off original truck to new truck. Same 3 men continued delivery. Arrival was delayed due to no fault of any employee. The original truck ended up being towed back to Boston. When they arrived with my stuff it was unloaded into 3 different homes. They unwrapped and set up all furniture and appliances. The gave me a discount because of mechanical failure of truck. The three men worked without a break. Remained professional and friendly. I recommend Oscar's for small to.large move

They moved us from Weymouth to Dorchester. Although they were able to complete the move in the time estimated they were supposed to send three movers and there were only two. Overall the move went very well.

Very good, the team was excellent. They worked efficiently, and they were very friendly. I would definitely use them again.

I realize moving furniture is hard work and is best left to a professional moving company. That's why I hired Oscar's Moving Company. They have been on Angies List for several years with very good reviews. I however, had a terrible experience with this company. I found that the two movers sent to my house were very inexperienced and careless. They either broke or damed several items during the move, and were not forthcoming about their errors. There was a large gouge in a 2 story wall left by the two movers in my parents home. The unfortunate issue was that neither of the movers had the courtesy to mention it when it happened. I was appreciative they didn't deny doing it when confronted. A tall lamp was not packed appropriatly in transit, and the top piece (stained glass) arrived to my new home disconnected from the stand with the electrical wiring snapped. the company took the item back to their headquarters for repair- but returned it three weeks later (by request) without having been fixed. The majority of my furniture is lined with antiqued mirror, and despite being wrapped with moving blankets, the movers were careless and broke one of the large mirrors plating a drawer; for which they also did not mention until confronted. The responsibility of fixing this damage was left to me- it took several hours and $200, for which Oscar's never re-funded. Lastly, the headboard and frame of my bed was not properly re-assembled in my new home by the two movers. This required me to call a family member to come and repair. To be blunt, I was not at all impressed with the moving experience. I had roughly 12 items moved and a lot of damage done with what should have been a simple move. The 2 movers sent were either very inexperienced or very careless. In either case, they did not reflect well on the company. The owner of the company was apologetic when I called the following day, but for all of the hassle and damage done- my only compensation was a check for $100 for "damages". Would NOT recommend this company to anyone.

Overall I am happy with the service. They guys arrived on time, were very careful, packed and moved all furniture and did not damage anything. They have run into trouble with the furniture assembly though. They disassembled our Italian bed to move and have not marked where and how the parts were installed. Later they reassembled the bed incorrectly and put left hand side parts on the right. As the result some pieces did not fit together properly. Since they are charging by the hour I did not want to let them experiment with the bed parts at my expense, I let them go and reassembled the bed properly myself. If your furniture exceeds the complexity of IKEA I recommend doing some leg work before they take things apart. Mark all parts properly, take pictures, etc.

Highly recommend. The team showed up right on time and got to work quickly. It took very little time to load up the truck and the crew was careful not to knock or scrape walls and floors. All crew members were polite. We had a one bedroom apartment and no appliances. It took them a very short time to load the moving truck. Originally there were supposed to be only three crew members but four came. It turned out to be a great thing. It cut the expected time in half. This surprised us because it shortened the time and the cost! It was about half of the expected cost.

The experience with Oscar's was very good. They carefully took inventory of all of our belongings over the phone to help estimate the amount of time it would take for the move. They even asked me questions about our home items that I hadn't thought of. Their pricing is based on the hours it takes for moving, so an accurate inventory gives you a more accurate price estimate. The guy who coordinated everything on the phone also helped make sure that we would have proper parking permits for the truck in Cambridge and Jamaica Plain so we would not get ticketed. We helped us figure out how to get the truck permit for Cambridge, and used google maps streetview to look at the street/driveway for our new place in Jamaica Plain to make sure the truck would fit for unloading. On the day of the move, the movers showed up on time and ready to work. The 3 movers worked diligently to carry all of our stuff down the 4 flights of stairs. They provided some boxes for hanging our clothes (which we requested ahead of time and paid for). They made sure all of our furniture was properly padded and well secured in the truck. It would have easily taken us all day (or two!) to carry everything down and load the truck. They were done in about 2 hours (remember it was only a 1 bedroom apartment so we didn't have that much stuff). We drove to Jamaica Plain, and they had everything unloaded in the new house in about 30 minutes (very few stairs in the new place). They put each box and piece of furniture into the rooms that we specified. They even positioned the furniture how we wanted it so we didn't have to rearrange anything after they left. The whole experience ended up taking ~3.5 hours. They honored our Angie's List coupon, and since it took them less time than they originally estimated, they actually charged us less money than the original estimate. It's wonderful when people are honest and don't overcharge. We were very happy with the experience. The movers were very professional and diligent workers. We had one small chip on one piece of furniture (which I actually saw happen and it wasn't due to carelessness), and nothing else was broken or even scratched. We would definitely hire Oscar's again for another move.
