Went back and forth for over a year, first by phone and e-mailed pics, in April 2017. Robert Young came out and saw the wall in person in November and said he'd start that week. He seemed to understand what was wanted. "His team" didn't start that week, but he promised that the wall would still be done before winter. After no communication, he called and e-mailed on Feb. 15 that he'd work on the wall that afternoon. Then, no more communication until I found and hired someone else last week.

Robert Young is truly a pleasure to work with. He is professional and easy to collaborate with. He has a strong team of professionals working for him who are punctual and do an excellent job. Our kids loved to watch them work and the team let them observe. We are very happy with the result. Robert is fair and responsive - paying attention to all the details to be sure that the job is done right. He is extremely honest and makes good on his word. We would recommend New England Stonemasonry to anyone for large or small projects without hesitation.
Description of Work: Robert Young and his team re-paved our walkways and cleaned up our stonework. They did it quickly and accurately and professionally.

Working with Robert Young and the team from NES was a real pleasure. He was recommended by a close friend and we are very happy to have chosen him for the project. He was punctual, professional and the price for the project was comparable to other quotes we obtained for a blue stone patio. The work was completed in 1 week and involved removing a fence around the area to enable easy access. Pea stone and fill removal. Placement of gravel and sand/finer fill, then the blue stone placement with the fill in between the stones. Robert has an excellent eye and made some suggestions regarding the moving of a couple of AC units to extend the space available on the patio which made a big difference in the end. Also as we required access via our neighbors' driveway he offered to meet with them and offered to repair part of their driveway and remove some extra fill they had in their backyard for the inconvenience of the project. Our neighbors were very happy with the results and in the end were minimally inconvenienced. We cannot stress enough what a pleasure it was to work with this team and we are sure we will be seeking their help for other future home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Blue Stone Patio 514sf installation. Lattice fence placement around two AC units. Placement of 2 window wells.

We are extremely pleased with the results of both of these efforts and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Robert Young and New England Stone Masonry to anyone who wants to work with a reliable contractor and have a job done properly. He and his crew are respectful and meticulous in their work.
Description of Work: This job required removing a 40-foot asphalt driveway and excavating 9 inches before installing a gravel base and concrete pavers in a decorative pattern. Excavation revealed house-related foundation issues that New England Masonry had to resolve before work could continue. All of this work was done with utmost care, diligence, and professionalism, and it easily passed Town of Brookline inspection. It also received plaudits from the Town building inspector for the quality of work performed. We hired New England Stone Masonry as a result of the excellent work done in 2000 to remove a 60-foot long concrete retaining wall and a brick staircase with buttresses at two levels. These were replaced with a segmental retaining wall and a much improved redesign of the staircase, done with concrete pavers as risers, bluestone steps, and three decorative bluestone landings. An unanticipated add-on to the job before reconstruction was the removal of a tree and excavation to allow for installation of a new water pipe and connection to the water gate in the street. Robert Young provided outstanding design advice, an aestethic eye that not many contractors have, and meticulous planning and day-to-day oversight of the assigned crew. The work drew many accolades from neighbors and other passers-by who saw this project evolve.

I have been very happy with their work. We will be having them come back for another project.
Description of Work: New England Stonemasonry has done a lot of work for me. They have leveled my back yard, planted new plants, and remodeled part of our basement. They also installed a new stone retaining wall, front porch, driveway, fence, and footings on our back porch.

Work turned out OK. Took longer than I wanted (have a 1 year old)This company came HIGHLY recommended by our landscaper who has been working with them for years. We called and made an appt. the morning of, Robert called to say he could not make it. I directed him to my husband who was at home waiting. They talked and Robert said he would call back to make another appt . He eventually did and once we all got started he worked with us to get project done (August through December).Walkway ended up bigger than my husband wanted (event though it's what he asked for); and edge is jagged vs. the smooth curve we wanted; and driveway is slightly smaller than we wanted (we failed to mark the original borders and there was just construction everywhere and we "eyeballed" area prior to the asphalt being poured). Otherwise water is flowing away from the house, which was the purpose of this entir exercise. (Some pooling on the side and back of the garage, which will hopefully be fixed with regrading this spring 2012)
Description of Work: "Island" in middle of driveway removed; driveway releveled and regraded so water redirected to back of house; trench dug and flow pipes installed so water is now redirect into two cement boxes underground in back on house; garage resided

New England Stonemasonry Inc Company did a fantastic job. Our backyard turned out to be excellent. Everything was well taken care of. It was nice. The owner was a perfectionist. He was very attentive to details. He came and supervised practically every aspect of the work. He had very good workers who were also attentive to detail. They worked very well on the plan that was designed by another company. So, both companies worked well together. Basically my yard was a complete disaster and New England Stonemasonry Inc Company did every work that a yard needs. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: New England Stonemasonry Inc Company built our backyard in September. They put in two driveways and also did complete landscaping of the yard. They put in shrubs, did some wood work and everything else that needs to be done in a yard.

Robert came over on time and walked us through what would be needed to be completed in pavers for the driveway/walkway. He also walked us through a landscaping plan which was very helpful. He gave us a website to view his work and the different types of available pavers he uses and we parted on the agreement that he would provide an estimate in a couple of days. A couple of days passed and no word from Robert. I called him to find out when we'd be able to get a quote, and he would get that to us at the end of the day. I also asked him to estimate out a asphalt driveway to get an idea on what that would cost. Days pass by and no word from Robert. At the time of this review, it had been about 1 month since our first meeting. I'm not sure why Robert is not attentive to his customers, but if could not even give a call back for a quote, I cannot imagine how he would manage a project. Bad experience.
Description of Work: Robert Young came over to provide an estimate on the driveway work we needed on our new construction. We detailed out to him the area and dimensions of the driveway/walkway to be done with pavers. He had some good ideas about landscaping as well, since we did not have any in place.

WHAT FOLLOWED WAS TWO DAYS OF PHONE CALLS BADGERING ME FOR AN UP FRONT ADDITIONAL PAYMENT. DURING THESE "DISCUSSIONS" I HAD OFFERED TO PAY FOR SOME OF THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN COMPLETED ALREADY. THESE ITEMS CAME TO $1,900. HE DECLINED THIS OFFER AND INSISTED ON RECEIVING A CHECK THAT DAY FOR $3,000. I DECLINED ON PRINCIPLE. LET'S JUST SAY HIS MEANS OF NEGOTIATION DID NOT LEAVE ME IN AN ACCOMMODATING MOOD. I UNDERSTAND THAT A CONTRACTOR HAS DEADLINES, PAYROLLS, SCHEDULES AND MANY ADDITIONAL PRESSURES. UNFORTUNATELY, ROBERT MADE HIS PROBLEMS MY PROBLEMS. THAT SULLIED THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE FOR ME. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT I EMPHASIZE THE WORK WAS COMPLETED, DONE WELL AND I HAVE NO COMPLAINT AS TO THE WORKMANSHIP OF THE FINAL PRODUCT. I WILL GO AS FAR AS TO SAY THIS: IF THE PAYMENT SCHEDULE HAD NEVER BECOME AN ISSUE, I WOULD BE SITTING HERE NOW WRITING A GLOWING REVIEW OF HIS GOOD WORK. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT WAS NOT THE CASE.
Description of Work: HE HAD AGREED TO TEAR DOWN TWO WALLS AND REPLACE THEM WITH VERSALOCK BRICK WALLS. I SIGNED A CONTRACT THAT STATED SIMPLY I WOULD PAY 50% OF THE TOTAL ($11,500) WHEN WORK COMMENCED AND THE OTHER 50% UPON COMPLETION. I PAID HIM 50% WHEN HE DROPPED MATERIALS AND HE STARTED WORK THAT DAY. THINGS WENT ALONG FINE UNTIL THE DAY THEY BROKE TWO SEWER PIPES THAT RAN UNDER THE OLD WALL. UNDERSTANDABLY, THINGS HAPPEN AND HE EXPLAINED THE ACCIDENT WAS UNAVOIDABLE. WHEN HE DISCOVERED ONE OF THE PIPES HAD BEEN CLOGGED, HE DECIDED TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. I THOUGHT THAT WAS FAIR (HE WAS FIXING AN EXISTING PROBLEM) AND I ASKED HIM TO MEET ME SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE. HE CHARGED ME $1,100 FOR THAT REPAIR. I THOUGHT IT WAS A LITTLE HIGH BUT AGREED. ROBERT STARTED ASKING ME FOR SOME OF THE FINAL PAYMENT UP FRONT. HAVING BEEN BITTEN ONCE BY SUCH AN ARRANGEMENT, I DECLINED. I TOLD HIM THE CONTRACT STIPULATED THAT PAYMENT WAS DUE ON COMPLETION.

THEY DUG DOWN, LAID GRAVEL AND STONEDUST AND INSTALLED PAVER WALKWAY. ROBERT WAS VERY CONSCIENTIOUS OF AN OLD TREE WE HAD AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO LAY OUT THE WALK SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE THIS TREE IN ADDITION TO OTHER GREAT DESIGN IDEAS. DESPITE IT BEING THE END OF THE SEASON AND A DEMANDING SCHEDULE ROBERT & HIS TEAM WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO GET OUR PROJECT DONE TO OUR SATISFACTION. HE WASN'T THE LEAST EXPENSIVE BIDDER, BUT WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK. JAMES, WHO IS ROBERT'S RIGHT HAND MAN WAS VERY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.

THEY'RE GREAT AT RETURNING PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS.
Description of Work: CALLED FOR ESTIMATE, SET UP APPOINTMENT TO SEE THE JOB, NEVER SHOWED UP. I CALLED AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE DIRECTIONS OR THE ADDRESS, EVEN THOUGH I HAD SPELLED THEM OUT EARLIER IN THE WEEK TO HIS AN ASSISTANT. THEY THEN PLANNED TO COME OUT ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS TO VIEW THE WORK AND LEAVE US A QUOTE LATER, NEVER PROVIDED A QUOTE EVEN THOUGH THEY CALLED FROM MY HOUSE TO SAY THEY WERE VIEWING THE JOB AT THE TIME.
