"THANK YOU"
"thank you"
For example, besides repairing and repainting some peeling ceilings here (without my having to move everything out of the rooms ... and there is a lot of stuff in there! He protected everything with plastic and vacuumed dust/powder, as needed-- also showed me how to remove plaster/lath chips in a narrow space between my bathroom lav and the wall that a workperson had left years before), he also detected a draft from one of my windows-- and persisted with his investigation, despite my suggestions that installing and removing the a/c from that window in summer and autumn over the years probably had just distorted the window/frame, to discover that my replacement windows had never been sealed!!!  So he sealed them all and I have been SO much warmer this winter - despite the Blizzard of 2015 and all the winter storms with frigid temperatures that followed.  (He has also indicated that my front door could be much better sealed - so you can easily guess what his next project here will be!)
Waldir also changed out the lights throughout my unit to be energy efficient (so I am paying for just ~13W while benefiting from 60W of light!) - while also emitting a warm Daylight quality light.  He even suggested and then installed dimmers, at my request, so that I and also guests and contractors can be satisfied here, at all times (I had mentioned to him that I appreciate lower lighting levels when I return from work late at night, so I can fall asleep faster, but contractors understandably prefer the rooms in which they are working to be well lit; Waldir immediately suggested dimmer switches - what a revelation!!  I had never considered the possibility of such exotic devices in my home!). He also fixed a problematic electrical outlet in the bathroom -- and even installed in its place an outlet with nightlight built in, so that I need not use one of its plugs for a nightlight.
Waldir also installed a clothes rack and shelf in my bathroom to serve as a closet, which has greatly improved the room's utility-- and the extra shelf space is making it possible for me to empty several huge boxes of stuff from my hallway ... about which I had been hearing (mostly kind) complaints from friends for years.  Waldir's work in my unit/apartment so inspired me, in fact, that I trekked to The Container Store to buy items to better organize my living space -- including a stable 3-step ladder to better help me reach what is now on my new shelf in the bathroom!
Waldir replaced an old doorknob and a bolt lock on my front door with models that provide added security. He also installed a door to my bedroom -- complete with security lock -- when other workers who had considered the project told me it could not be done because the hinges had to be on a particular side and a water pipe above had to be taken into account when the door opened and closed ... Waldir never blinked an eyelash or expressed any concern about the complications of that work when he asserted that he could install a door there:  he just did, and it looks great!
In fact, Waldir has said that anything man-made can be fixed ? and he goes the extra mile to do an excellent job -- and for a reasonable price. So the head of our condo's board of trustees has invited Waldir to submit a proposal to also fix a problematic
front door to our building (in an historical neighborhood: so we must also contend with the city's Historical Commission) that has caused our association headaches for decades because the door and frame admit cold and hot air from the outdoors and also create a security risk whenever student residents don't close the door securely behind them: it doesn't always latch.
...As a result of this review, I realize that Waldir might become so busy that it will be increasingly difficult for me to schedule more of his time for future projects-- but he deserves all the business that his excellent work generates:  Waldir deserves to be a millionaire, in fact, from the quality of his work I have seen and the quality of his workmanship I have experienced!  I already am making plans for his next job here---
