Avishay Carpet

Owen the owner, (on September 26th, 2013 (approximately) asked me to meet him in Watertown on Pleasant Street with my two rugs to be cleaned. One was an expensive Indian/Asian Rug and the other a synthetic carpet 12' long runner. I dropped them off to him and paid a percentage down. Three weeks later I called him and he told me that he lost my rugs. He asked me to wait and see if they showed up maybe having been misplaced. Then I never heard from him. So I called him weeks later and he said he indeed did lose my rugs and that he would put in an insurance claim and said he would forward the information to me. That was three months ago. I've waited and now I have to sue him for losing my rugs and the way he has acted, at a minimum unprofessional, I'm very suspicious that he may have stolen my rugs because he refuses to cooperate. I've never had an experience like this before. It's crazy. I would never put any property that I own in his hands I would recommend that people steer clear of this guy.

The funny thing was, we actually phoned UC Carpet Cleaning (Newton Center, 617-965-5890, not Avishay at all, but the truck that showed up was clearly labelled Avishay Carpet Cleaning. They were professional on the phone and the guy arrived very punctually. He looked at our stains and said he would have to do a "deep cleaning," which was a chemical process using five chemicals, he said. Maybe we should have insisted on steam cleaning, for which he did have the equipment in his truck, but we felt that he was the expert and we should just follow his advice. Unfortunately the five chemicals left our carpet in worse shape than it was before, with large brown stains several times larger than the original problem. He insisted that when it dried it would probably be fine and that there was just nothing more that could be done. Admittedly he only charged us $158 instead of the originally estimated $179, but we were left thinking we would have to replace the carpet.
