Able Roofing

Price is fair. Excellent work. collect all trash after work done. clean gutter and reinstall even did me a few favors for my housework.

We hired Able roofing 3 years ago to do our roof after problems with ice damns. We reviewed the roof, especially the problem areas. We had set a date when I would be home to have the roof done. The day before, I come back from work and they had already done the roof, so I had no idea if the problem areas were dealt with properly. Strike one. Fast forward 2 years to 2015, the worst winter in Boston. We developed ice damns and even worse water damage in the same areas we had before. We called Jay who gave us a quote and an estimate time to come look at the roof and remove the snow. He never showed up and he never called. Strike two. After the estimated time had come and gone, we called Jay back. He apologized and took 50% off the quote and gave us a new estimated time to finish the work. He never showed up, and never called. Strike three. Out of curiosity we called Jay again. This time he said he felt so bad and that he would clear the roof for free. Unsurprisingly he never showed up and never called. Is it so hard to just be honest?

Was on time for appt. to inspect and quote repairs. Completed the work one day ahead of schedule. Showed us the repairs, advised us of some issues with rake boards. Was very professional, competent, easy to work with. Would happily recommend them to anyone needing roofing work.

Our experience with Able was exceptional. The owner, Jay, came to provide suggestions and gave us an estimate to complete the work. We have a fairly large home with a few prior problem areas. He was very helpful and reassuring in his approach to the problems which required some creative solutions. He was able to fit us in quickly,despite how busy his company is. The crew that came to the house was great. Very careful to protect the house and bushes and decking as they removed the old roof and they were all very pleasant to deal will and worked really hard with few breaks. The initial thought was that it might take 3 days to complete and they were able to get it done in only 2. They also cleaned up really well after they were done.

I called and talked to Jay 2/17 he said he would squeeze us in on 2/18 as we had leaks and it was an emergency situation to get ice dams removed. 2/18 we called to confirm and Jay said he would be at our house. He never came we called back at eod and he said he would be there on 2/19 - I called in the morning to confirm and left a message with all my details again. I took the day from work to make sure I was home. They never showed up or called. I called around 3:30 and Jay answered and acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. I understand being overwhelmed its a horrible winter in MA. However, do not over commit. Peoples houses are at stake and I did and do have water damage to contend with. Jay strung us along for two days and luckily I was able to find someone else to come after about 25 calls to different companies.

Provider seemed pleasant, unfortunately we learned the hard way that he has a very hard time setting realistic expectations. I am an executive and worked for home two days for mis-set appointments where he gave me time windows said he would call prior to arrival and then never called or showed. Sadly, we were desperate with water leaks and finally had service just ahead of third blizzard. The crew of two arrived alone and were very polite but lacked the tools to really remove ice dams and snow on our roof. We have a slate roof an copper gutters and were very nervous,about the axe and plain shovel they used. All said and done, we still have water issues and provider has not retuned subsequent communications. We paid nearly 1k for 2 hours work thta did not solve our concern. This guy is just a mess and clearly can't stay organized with all the demand, although the I did see he jacked his prices up for us vs others. Don't hire him.

We had extensive ice dams on our roof that lead to a leak. We called Jay in a panic. He picked up right away and came over within 15 minutes to help. It was SO WONDERFUL to have such a quick response in an emergency situation. He removed all our dams, not just the one that lead to the leak, The water stopped dripping inside as soon as he got the ice off the roof. We could not have asked for better service and didn't expect to find someone who was so willing to come help right away, especially during this incredibly busy snow season when everyone is having these kinds of problems. We feel lucky to have found Jay and Able Roofing! We moved into our house in July so this is our first winter here and are getting to know how everything works, what needs updating, etc. We knew we needed insulation but were hoping to wait until spring to do it and had no idea how bad the ice dams would be. Jay not only solved our immediate problem, but also offered advice about what to do in the short term to help prevent them from re-forming. He also made suggestions about longterm updates we could do to more permanently fix the problem. We will definitely be in touch with Jay in the spring to help make next winter leak free!

I called with an emergency situation Tuesday morning, and luckily was able to get through to the owner at one of the busiest times ever for roofers. I had ice dams causing water leaks inside my home in multiple locations, on walls, ceilings, draining into light fixtures, etc. The owner told me their trucks were all out but they would get to me at the end of the day. They did show up at 8PM, at the very end of their work day, and did the work. Not only that, they were still professional, energetic, upbeat, seemed to be happy to be helpful although they must have been exhausted at that point. An absolute pleasure to deal with. The problem areas were not easily accessible due to the deep snow surrounding three sides of the house, but they didn't hesitate to climb up and over the step areas to get to the problems.

They didn't even bother to come. A very unprofessional company. And rude, too.

It was amazing, as I stated they not only spent well over two hours clearing the roof in bitter cold and did not stop until it was all removed. The inside of my home was leaking so it was an emergency. Not only did they do the entire job with two men then four when all was said and done they shoveled all the ice and snow they had removed off the front walkway and even went out back to my deck and shoveled off the entire deck!!! They were great and I am calling them back in a couple days to ensure that the ice dams do not come back.

The constant freeze and thaw caused ice dams on the back of roof's back slope. Before I knew it, water was coming into the house. I contacted Jay at Able Roofing. He asked me a few simple questions and then performed the work at the agreed price. He inspected the roof once the ice was removed and remarked that it was in good condition; he did not try to sell me on additional repairs because they would have been unwarranted. He was fair, courteous and honest. When I do need a new roof, I know I'll be calling Able Roofing.

VERY WELL ! The roof was leaking and in need of replacing. They were the origiinal shingles (over 40 years old). They came the same day we called them and inspetced my father-in-laws roof. They explained the new technologies that were available to us to prevent water and ice damage. Soon we had a quote and a date was set to start the job. As stated they arrived the day we agreed upon. The roof was stripped and replaced and completed on time . All workers were very professional and polite to my inquisitive (80+ year old father in-law). When the job was completed the yard was cleaner than it was before they arrived. They not only cleaned and removed the debri from the roof work but took branches that had fallen during the summer away. Since thay have done the roof they have returned yearly (in the fal) to clean the gutters and do not charge him. We are very satisfied with this project and how smoothly it was completed!

I need a new roof, and checked out Angie's List. Since Able was local, I contacted them. The first call , I was told to call back since Jay was on the other line. I did as I was told, and called back within the allotted time frame. The second time, he was on the phone again, but took my number and said he would call back. he never did. I have gone on to secure another company's service. I guess he does not need my business.Very disappointing.

Jay was nothing but professional and fair from the first interaction right up until the job was done. I had recently bought the home and noticed a leak around the chimeny in my attic. Most roofers would not consider coming out to my home to even consider the job given that it was minor, and those who did mostly wanted to mkae more of the job than what it was. Jay was responsive, honest, and fair. He and his team did good work and even helped me by sealing some leaks around my front door at no extra charge. I would recommend him in the future without reservation.

During the heavy snows in the winter of 2013, my tenants contacted me to say they had water pouring down their walls - top, middle and bottom floors, along the walls that abutted the chimney. I called Jay Bullens at Able Roofing, and another roofer with good references to give me estimates. Jay met me the next day, and gave me an estimate on the spot, which made me a little wary. A week later the other roofer was able to meet me for his estimate. He got back to me the next day with his price - $1k lower than Able, but with lower quality materials, and without the service of having the roof drain professionally cleaned. I was happy to go with Able - they had come out to replace a rotted soffit the previous year, which no one else would take on, because the job was too small or too high (3rd floor roof). Within days, with the forecast for more snow and heavy rain, Jay moved us to the top of his list, got the materials ordered and installed before my tenants were flooded again. I would absolutely recommend Jay and his Able Roofing team for jobs large and small.

Hurricane Sandy blew off 8 to 10 ridge cap shingles. I was nervous that all roofers would be swamped due to the hurricane and/or that replacing 8 or 10 shingles would be too small a job. I called the next day, they picked up, said they could swing by that day provide a quote, and do the work right away if I wanted. With more rain in the forecast $300 seemed like a fair price. They showed me some pictures from up close and the work looks great. Additionally, they blew out my gutters without me even asking and cleared the debris off of the stairs and patio. They also gave me some peace of mind by inspecting a previous leak, a gutter I was concerned about, and did some free caulking for me. I was happy with their responsiveness and price, and extremely impressed they went over and above my expectations.

It was too much. He came very quickly and he explained why he thought his services were worth what he was charging. It sounded like it was to me but it was higher than the other quote we got.

They were very professional and did a great job.

Outstanding performance, on time and on budget. They were prompt, courteous, professional and timely. They left my yard cleaner than it was before they started. Totally top in my book. I would gladly recommend to anyone. And my neighbors commented- nicest roof on the street!

I called Jay at Able Roofing to re-seal my chimney. He did so at a competitive rate, in a prompt manner, and guaranteed his work. Many other roofers would not take on a repair job unless they had installed the roof themselves. I am very pleased with Jay's work.

He charged me $1500 for the work. He was very courteous, very nice mannered, and very professional. I called a number of contractors most of whom didn't even bother calling me back. I think it was a bad time of the year like April or May, and there were lots of people with lots of problems in roofing. He was one of those ones who called me. Amongst all the quotes I had, his quote was very much more reasonable. I paid him when I said I would. He came and did the job. He was very efficient, very businesslike, and very thorough. I would use him again in the future.

We were extremely pleased by the work performed by Jay at Able Roofing. On Wednesday evening, we came home to find a leak in the attic, dripping down to the second floor. We called Able Roofing and they came over within 20 minutes to assess the situation. They were able (no pun intended) to temporarily stop the leak that evening, and had a new roof installed within 24 hours of the original call. This past February, we also had a leak. We used Able Roofing then as well. I was impressed that they volunteered to credit us for the amount spent last February. They were very professional and easy to work with. I would highly recommend them.

I used them last February and also this spring. I liked that they came right away when it was kind of an emergency situation, and what I did not like was that it took a little while to get the paperwork, although I eventually got it. I really have nothing to compare their price to, but I think it is fine. I wouldn't know how their quality of work is until next winter, but I guess it is fine too. I would probably use them again in the future.
