Everything went well. The city water pipe leading from the sidewalk to the house had to be replaced because it was old and in danger of failing. The City of Newton actually replaced the pipe (that's their job). Leporini's task was everything else: coordination, digging the trench, and fill it in, and making nice afterwards. They scheduled everything with the city and with us and made it all happen. The trench work looked very professional and clean, and it was fenced off for one overnight while the work was ongoing. After the city replaced the pipe they promptly filled the trench and made the front yard look better than it had before. They would also have re-seeded but I asked them not to since we'll be doing lawn work in 2012. The only improvement I would suggest is communication. They asked at the last minute that I remove a structure in the basement to facilitate access to the pipe. I would have preferred more notice.
