Not only can he build or repair anything with exceptional quality at reasonable prices, he carefully explains beforehand what is involved and makes valuable suggestions for the best possible results. I heartily recommend B. Shackleton Construction without reservation to anyone who wants a high-quality construction/renovation project done on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Barker Shackleton has done a number of projects for us over a period of at least the last 12 years, including: - Constructing a 20' x 32-foot deck with parking beneath. - Refinishing the entire foundation of our home with SBC (surface bonding cement), sealing it against the elements and making it look like new again. - Re-tiling our upstairs bathroom. - Building an exterior stairway and refinishing the floor of my elevated garage. - Installing our dishwasher and an exterior-vented range hood. - Repairing our insulated storm windows. He also built a very nice bathroom in a corner of the living room at my brother's old beach house. It couldn't have turned out better, and saves my elderly sister-in-law from hiking to an upstairs bathroom during the day.

+ 0 morePerfect (and I rarely if ever say that about contractors). Respectful, high integrity and highly skilled. Barker was a perfectionist and I would hire him in a second.
Description of Work: My bathroom renovation contractor quit half way through the job. I had no tub, the shower was half done and it was the worst winter on record in New England (the winter we had a major snowstorm every other day). A friend recommended Barker and he called back and said he is loyal to his customer base and agreed to finish the job of the prior contractor (this is something that most contractors will not do). Barker was professional, called and showed up when he said he would but more importantly did an excellent job finishing my bathroom renovation. He consulted me when decisions had to be made and as a middle aged single female homeowner I felt enormous relief to do business with him. His integrity is way above the norm for contractors (and I have hired many).

+ -1 moreEach project was done on time or early. In fact, the door replacement was the result of a break in. When I called Barker and told him the story, he not only came by the next day, he provided a quote and timeline of when he could have the project completed right away. He finished that week! More recently, he worked on a full bathroom renovation. The work he did was amazing. Everything came out great. Barker went the extra mile here too. He accompanied me to Home Depot, so we could pick out materials together and offered his professional opinion.

The subcontractors that he works with are excellent as well. He works with you side by side to accomplish what you have in mind. He works diligently, is very reliable, always leaves the site clean, and his price is very reasonable. We would recommend Barker without hesitation or reservation.

We needed to put our very old home on the market, and it was important that the contractor preserve as much of the original beauty and architecture as possible, and thankfully Barker did not disappoint. We constantly received compliments on the work Barker and his team performed. To this day, my friends say our kitchen and bathrooms should be in a magazine; I woke up everyday and couldn't believe how beautiful my kitchen was! It’s not unusual to encounter surprises when renovating an antique house. And this house had more than its share of oddities. Moving electrical and plumbing services was a challenge. Locating antique wood to patch a 200-year-old pine floor was nearly impossible. But Barker is a creative guy – and he was determined to make this project a success. Barker came highly recommended to me by a neighbor. And he didn’t disappoint. Barker is honest and trustworthy. He delivers a quality product at a reasonable cost. I’d hire him again in a heartbeat!

The fireplace included custom moldings and some tile work that was very difficult and precise, because of the tile that I had picked out. The bathroom also included a new tile floor, along with a new vanity, sink and toilet. Also, a wall had to be redone, because we had a shower removed. B.S.C. did a great job!

+ 0 moreAfter the pipe burst incident, we've since used Mr. Shackleton for other jobs as well because of how happy we were with his work. We definitely recommend him and his crew! We would not have repeatedly hired him if we didn't... You know you're getting quality work when you hire him!
Description of Work: We've used Mr. Shackleton for multiple jobs. For our first biggest job, our pipes burst during the middle of the winter in Massachusetts. We tried others we found on Angie's List or on Google to do an emergency service, but no one was willing to respond to our inquiries or take the job. We got referred to Mr. Shackleton by someone we know, and we are so thankful that we did! He not only was willing to take the job, but he and his crew did excellent work. They know exactly what they're doing, and they don't rush or cut corners. We're incredibly happy with the work they performed.

He leaves the work site clean every day which is part of his outstanding work ethic. B. Shackleton is trustworthy, honest and a pleasure to have in the home. In all the jobs he did for us, he worked within our budget. He is first on our list and we recommend him highly.
Description of Work: B. Shackleton installed a new laundry room in our basement. This included cupboards, a sink, washer and dryer set-ups, painting, and a ceiling. He remodeled our bathroom. The room was completely stripped down. A new shower, toilet and sink were installed, and the walls were tiled and painted. The kitchen was also stripped. New kitchen cupboards were installed and a new stove and dishwasher were set up. A back splash was put in place.
