Description of Work: Scott responded quickly to my inquiry. He came out to evaluate the scope of work. We scheduled a date for service and he cancelled the evening before. We then aimed to reschedule but the communication back/forth was not up to par.

(Member name removed) purchased the carpentry for a day special of 299.00 for 1 carpenter for 8 hrs. she then emailed me her list of things she wanted done in that 8 hrs here is her list :First Floor -Garage trim – when facing house, trim surrounding garage door on left is loose, Mudroom door bumper – repair or replace -Mudroom double doors - align, -Kitchen cabinets (and desk drawer) - align -Door gripper in front hall closet - replace Second Floor -Guest room double doors - align -(member name removed) room double doors - align -Play room double doors - align -(member name removed) bathroom drawer - align -Master dresser drawers - align -Master shower handle – install spacer -Master flusher - reverse -Master faucets - align -Master shower drain - align Attic -Vanity drawers – increase fluidity TP holder - tighten Second Floor -Caulk J&J bath -Laundry room organization (sink?) Basement Plywood in storage area ECTRICAL: Install DVR player Light switches – (member name removed) room—add switch by bathroom for room itself; Playroom—add switch by bathroom for room itself; Guest bath—rearrange; Attic bath-remove 3rd light switch? Total value well exceeded $300.00 and I told her after spending 1 hr with her that I would do my best to accomplish her list, she also added a laundry room sink installation complete plumbing I would estimate the total value of her job to be close to $2000.00 to include plumbing carpentry and electrical work.. we had a total of 14 emails and 1 hr consult for her job, During That one hour consultation she informed me that she was bringing a law suit against her builder . I did have to reschedule as the job I was doing the day before needed a part and was time sensative due to incomming rain it was a skylight installation. (Member name removed) could not make up her mind on which day next would be good, and I suggested she would be better of finding a new contractor, she agreed...obviously after agreeing that we were not a good match she proceeded to give me a poor review

I sincerely apologize to Member. Ever since I have been put on Angies list especially this spring I have had an over whelming demand for estimates. I am a very small business with only a few employees. I am trying to keep up with all the emails and voicemail requests and unfortunately may have had a few potential customers get lost in the process I would be more then happy to offer Member %15 off any future services rendered, and my most genuine apologies for any inconvenience that may have occurred Sincerely Scott Harris

Still waiting for the final inspection to be completed and the work began 9 months ago. In addition to the porch work, Scott agreed to fix a small cosmetic repair on our front steps that has still not been completed- in addition to the fact that the roof on our porch now dips (where is didn't prior to Scott beginning the work- and we have pictures to prove it). The railings are not up to current code. We had wanted to maintain the historical appeal of our original railings and Scott assured us that this would be possible. Over these many months I have contacted Scott countless times to try to bring the project to closure. I have offered to split the cost of finishing work. He has been nearly impossible to get in touch with (even Angie's list had a hard time reaching him). and on the most recent occasion when he indicated a time he could come to the house- he was a no show. The project is at a complete standstill with an open permit and Scott is unwilling to work with me to reach a resolution. He continues to state the the inspector has been delaying the process and that the inspector previously told him the work had passed. I was able to reach the inspector on my first try and he came out the house that same week. He arrived when he said he would and was exceptionally reasonable. I have documented all of my conversations with Scott via email. I took pictures of the house prior to him beginning the work and I recommend to anyone considering his services to do the same.
Description of Work: He renovated our front porch.

Response from Scott Harris Custom Carpentry & General Contractor
In September 2010 customer contacted me for several estimates to include front porch repairs, after several estimates and a reduction in scope of work, we agreed to start on front porch repairs for the first week of November. After finding serious structural defects to the porch we pulled a permit for the job and completed the work in a timely fashion. throughout the duration of the project the building inspector who handles all the permit inspections made many inspection dates without keeping his appointments, furthermore he signed a business card to "ok" the footing and frame, and verbally told me to close up and finish. Upon finish I called for an inspection that was last November and he finally came out to inspect in late may 2011. At this time he gave his approval on the entire project with the exception of the existing railing height, which is approx 6" too low and does not me new code standards. I explained to the inspector that these were original to the house and had historic importance to the home owner, and was also outside of owners budget. The Home owner and I are working together to find a resolution to this issue and expect to have it resolved soon. Sincerely Scott Harris

I called Scott because I was having significant problems with ice dams and roof leaking. He was booked for the day, but promised to come when he was done with his previously scheduled clients. At a time others were price gouging, he did not. He returned my phone call the same day, was courteous, and told me when he would be available. He arrived when he said he would, after letting me know he was on his way. He and his crew worked quickly and efficiently. I was very happy with his service, and am considering him for roof repairs that I intend to have done this summer. I would recommend Scott to others.

This whole project has been a breeze, from start to finish! He responded to my initial inquiry immediately, came to do the estimate on time, was personable, friendly and helpful in discussing my options for decking materials; he came by again with samples; he wrote a clear contract and his price was extremely reasonable (I had one other quote which was higher.) Scott was able to start the job a week earlier than planned, which was great for me. And the deck looks terrific! I'm so glad I used the product he recommended. I plan to use Scott again for another inside project later this year.
Description of Work: The job was a deck renovation. Scott removed and disposed of all existing decking boards, approximately 400 sq ft. He installed grey azek decking boards, using stainless steel hidden fastener system, and then installed grey azek skirt boards around the perimeter to prevent little critters from nesting underneath. A painter came to paint the skirt boards.

I had scott remove ice dams after the big ice storm that caused many roofs to collapse. Scott called back promptly and promised to fit me in. He kept me up to date on his schedule and completed the job for a very reasonable price when others were trying to charge double or triple their normal rates.

Description of Work: I contacted Mr. Harris about finishing a basement . He spent quite awhile with me in the house and ultimately suggested that I finish the attic instead. My wife and I both thought that was a great idea and changed directions. Unfortunately, Mr. Harris never submitted a bid for the work. When I sent him an e-mail to find out if a bid was forthcoming, he did not respond. He wasted my time and his, but he offered some useful thoughts.

I emailed a Bid to member, and when i never heard back from him I just assumed he descided to go with someone else. Iwould be happy to resend the estimate. There must have been a simple error in the email communication perhaphs it ended up in some ones junk folder. Thanks for Angies list I am now aware of this.

Great experience from start to finish. On time for estimate...and took the time to listen...very personable and professional. I had made several changes and additions to the job, and he was accommodating without any problems. Pressure washing of deck and hom came first...came out great !!! To include 2 coats on the high traffic areas and one coat on the railings. The replacement of both exterior doors is such an improvement...keeps the home warmer...he had to include some finish work, as one of the doors is not a common size. Replacement of door steps (old ones were both wooden and rotting away) came out great !!! New shutters placed on, completed the exterior renovation...it looks super !!!! Scott always responded back to me right away, ith any questions, comments or updates. I would definitely recommend him for any work. I have consulted with Scott already for bathroom replacement tile floor, new ceiling with placement of fan with ventilation system and repair/painting of walls.

Our bedroom had rain water leaking in near the windows of our third floor "bump out". We had several contractors out to examine the exterior, where we found some very old wood splitting and cracking due to its age. From the start, Scott was by far the most thorough and professional contractor of the four we met. He had me hang my head out the windows with him to show me how much caulk the prior owners had been using to patch up the woodwork, and how some of the wood would crumble to the touch. This made it apparent that the patch job some of the less-thorough contractors had proposed would be a very short term fix. During his initial visit Scott also impressed us w/ his attention to detail. His quote included close-up pictures of the existing structure and details about insulation and vapor barriers which no one else discussed. He also provided a sketch of the woodwork to show us how he?d maintain the historical character of the 100 year old piece, and he was the only contractor confident enough to guarantee his work. Scott?s bid to do the work was not the lowest, but it was a no-brainer to go with him due to his thoroughness, thoughtfulness, professionalism and passion for craftsmanship. Once the project started Scott kept us informed of daily progress and finished in a timely manner despite some uncooperative weather. Scott replaced the dozens of intricately cut boards with modern Azec materials (should last us another 100 years) while perfectly maintaining the look and feel of the original design. We are thrilled with the results and will definitely call on Scott again in the future.

Scott was very prompt in responding to our initial request for an estimate on our porch. He was able to come to our house a couple of days later. He seemed very knowledgeable about the structure and support our porch needed. He took measurements and we felt very comfortable and confident in his knowledge and ability to do the work we were seeking. After a short break in communication due to a death in the family we are back on track and excited to begin work on the porch.
Description of Work: Scott is working with us on a porch repair and putting in a potential 1/2 bath on our 1st floor.

From the initial phone contact with Scott, to the first "in person" meeting to discuss the job details and get a written estimate, there was never any doubt that I was dealing with a consumate professional , both in his demeanor and expertise. I recerived a detailed estimate within 24 hours , which spelled out in clear cut language every detail of the job, some of which I hadn't considered, which made it very helpful. When I accepted the estimate, Scott gave me a definite starting date and followed through as promised under very difficult circumstances , given the extreme heat we've been experiencing during the past couple of weeks , and went above and beyond what was expected. He consulted with me while the job was in progress to ask my approval , which I knew was the best way to go.. I can only add that I feel very fortunate that I secured the services of Scott, thanks to the previous excellent references from other clients , very well deserved. As a retired accountant, having had some prior experience with general contractors, it is rare these days to find an individual as professional as Scott, who truly takes pride in his work , and wants to have his client totally satisfied. In summary, I can only add that anyone fortunate enough to secure Scott's services will be totally pleased with his work. Thank you Scott.
Description of Work: Removal of old chain link fence and posts , and replacement of fence and posts , with additional painting of remaining fence and front and back porches and stairs. Scott has done an exceptional job on every project no matter how small (deck repair) or how large (kitchen remodel). If there was ever a problem during a project Scott was upfront and very accomodating. His flexibility and ability to do many different things and do them WELL is one of his greatest assets.
Description of Work: Harris Custom Carpentry & General Contracting has completed numerous projects for both my business and home. I started out using the company for small projects a couple of years ago. As a business owner and a homeowner there was always something that needed to be done! Scott Harris has performed many services for us from power washing, repairing and staining all 5 of our outdoor decks to remodeling a kitchen and everything in between! He has done custom carpentry and simple repair work. He has installed both hardwood and tile floors and the finished work was amazing. Scott Harris is really a "Jack of all Trades" - but most importantly, he does things very well and very thouroughly. You can depend on him to be reliable, on budget and time sensitive. He is extremely hard working and professional. I have used Scott Harris Custom Carpentry and General Contracting for just about everything and have not been disappointed. He works very hard to accomodate each customer and their individual needs. I have highly recommended him to friends, family and professional associates and will continue to do so!
