I know his daughter.? His daughter came over once because the other plumbers were busy.? She also has a plumbing license.? He's very good if you have an emergency.? Someone will come over.? He has a lot of helpers all of which I would leave them in here because I know they will not take anything. What really I like about them is they are available when you need them.? If you have a leak or something they'll come within 20 minutes.? They are aware of the fact that you can't have a toilet overflowing and no help.? A plus on responsiveness.? They are really professional.? Again, like I know the woman.? Sometimes I'm not aware if they're really great because I've know them for 25 years or because they're just really great.? I would always use them.

Fantastic! He was recommended to me along with two other possible choices by the company that made the water heater as someone who had worked with them in the past in this area. That made me wary, as I've had terrible recommendations in similar circumstances before, but he was incredibly responsive, and answered my call immediately. He was able to come first thing in the morning and was even a little early for his appointment. Completed the work more quickly than initially estimated and charged me only for the actual time spent. He was incredibly professional. I am VERY sensitive to the professionalism of workmen, particularly those ones who don't have a lot of respect for female homeowners/decision makers. A's across the board from me is a really big deal. He was absolutely fantastic.

Well. He showed up on time and quickly solved the problem. There had been other plumbers over the years who did not.

Not good at all

When they arrived, the plumber looked at the job and then left for a few hours to get parts. I didn't expect this because I had described the job over the phone and thought that they would have some or all of these parts on the truck when they arrived. The did a fine job, but I think it was overpriced. Specifically, I had a gas dryer connected at another property by a different plumber. McDonnell charged me $230, which is about 40% more that what I paid at the other property.

Called early morning as I was expecting company the next day. I was told it would be repaired before my company arrived. Service arrived 1 pm the same day as the call. Have been using this company on an off for many years. Would recommend.

They were incredibly responsive, and also had the best quote. They were particularly helpful in making sure we had all paperwork for rebates with Mass Save.

We always had our own electrician connect the wires on all the previous water heaters McDonnell installed. This time he hired an electrician without my permission and sent me the bill. After doing business with him for about 30 years on multiple properties, I called him and explained that I didn't feel that this was fair. He did not handle the call in a professional manner, and I have not done business with him since. While most of our experiences over the years with the multiple plumbers he hired were good, occasionally he'd send over a plumber who was rude or made errors. I found another plumber on Angie's List with whom I've had an excellent working relationship for about 5 years. It is not true that we were unable to reach our electrician! Your plumber didn't even tell us that we needed an electrician. We did NOT request the electrical service from you. After 30 years of prompt payments to your company, of course we would have paid for a service that we requested. Why would I complain that you did something that I asked for? It would be nice if you had admitted your mistake.

We called and scheduled to have the service. They were on time and the service took minutes to complete. Very nice and efficient. Plan to use as our primary plumbing contact.

About an hour after initial call and before service person arrived, the boiler started working on its own and house heated up. I still wanted to get system checked out but also avoid OT rates. I called McDonnell and they agreed to come next day during normal hours which worked out well for me. Tech came, diagnosed problem with pressure controller but did not have part. Had to go get new part before it could be fixed. Overall happy with experience. Hard to beat talking to a person when calling after hours, scheduling same day service and flexibility to change to next day. It would have been nice to have the part on the truck rather than having to pay for time for plumber to go get it but understand that is probably too much to ask.

Estimate was reasonable. Workers are courteous and clean up nicely. Kate is always available for questions and kept us informed of how long each part would take. We moved out for a short period. When it took longer than expected to get the inspector to come over, thus delaying being able to move back in, Kate texted us so we could keep ourselves in our accommodations. All in all a very good experience. Love our new heating system.

My upstairs heat was not working - it was either too hot or two cold. Adjusting the upstairs thermostat did change the temparature. The zone valve control was not adjusting to changes in the temperature as registered on the thermometer (gas heat, forced hot water, 2 zones). McDonnell sent out two people to diagnose the job. They indicated that it was a bad zone valve and asked me if I wanted to order the part. I said sure, but asked how much it would cost and they had no idea. They called me later and said it would cost over $400 to drain the system, swap out the defective zone valve and refill the system (fyi you don't need to drain the H2O to swap out the type of zone valve I have). I got another opinion and it turned out that it wasn't the zone valve at all - the programmable thermometer had be incorrectly hooked up so that the valve was not getting the proper signal. It cost me $50 to get an electrician to trace the leads and fix it. They never told me how much they would charge up front. They had the nerve to invoice me for a part they ordered that I never used.

I haven't had any complaints with them. The pricing seems fair and they are responsive. It is a family owned company, and they have been great. I will use them again in the future.

They scheduled an appointment usually the next day, arrived on time, were courteous and clean, and did an excellent job each time. Frank McDonnell even played with my two year old son before he left!
