We hired Dan Tibma for a kitchen addition. He was to measure, design, space plan, develop initial scope of work, and provide an estimate of the cost of presented design (Phase 1 of his process), then select flooring, cabinets, backsplash tile, counter tops, lighting, plumbing fixtures and develop job specifications and final budget (Phase ii). The 2 initial phases of the job cost us $3200 (in hind-sight, we should have paid 50%, with 50% due upon completion) Dan met with his subs at our home, allowed me to drive him around town while I picked out my appliances, plumbing fixtures, counter tops and backsplash material, but was unable to provide us with a detailed estimate and cost of our addition. When pressed, after 2 months, he produced a "Sample" contract, which appeared to have been pulled off the web... it was a template with no specifics details of our job. Dan asked when we would like to begin the project, and our reply was "as soon as possible, just like everyone else". Within 3 days, Dan called me at 7:10 am on a Friday morning to alert me to the fact that a demo crew was on their way to our house to remove our exterior deck before the ground froze. We explained that because we had no contract, they were not allowed on our property. We met with his designer once, who laid out initial plans for the interior space, but when we requested front and back exterior elevations, as well as a detailed architectural plan which was included in the initial agreement, our requests were not honored. After 2 months, Dan was unable to get in touch with the designer we had worked with, as "the designer wouldn't return his calls." Without a detailed design plan, it is impossible to provide an accurate estimate. This was the last "red flag" that we needed. Dan finally produced a "contract" with no real job specification, no architectural plans, no time frame, vague numbers, and a price of $325,000. Dan's estimate was more $125,000 above the bids we received from other contractors. Clearly, Dan was unable, or unwilling to complete Phase I and II of his contract with us. In the end, after wasting 3 months of our time and $3200 of our money, we cut ties with Dan. We requested that he forward us what little paperwork he had on our job. He promised to mail us all the paperwork immediately. Not surprisingly, when my husband called him two weeks later he stated that he had placed the package in the mail the day before. We did receive the paperwork, 5 days later.
Description of Work: Provided us with vague detail and pricing for our kitchen renovation.

We had Tibma come in and talk to us about an addition for my Mother for a Master Suite for our house. Dan came in and gave a very good presentation until it came to approximate price for the job. They estimated easily $50,000 more than any other re-modeler. He asked to see our Master bath that we had re-done, and he asked what we paid. When I told him, he said that we got the bargain of the century. When he said this, it solidified the fact that he was going to price gauge us. When they followed up with a call, we told them our budget and our "not to exceed" price, and we never heard back from them.
Description of Work: Were looking for a quote for an addition to our home.

The work was beyond perfect. The workmen were professional, experienced and just top notch people! It's completely beautiful. They are expensive but they did came in slightly under budget. Dan Tibma is a perfectionist.
Description of Work: They put on a kitchen/family room addition to the house which is now the best room in the house!

They gave me a general idea of where their prices start, and I thought it was too high for what I wanted done. Apparently they include a design consultation as part of their work, which increases the cost. They were very nice and polite, though, and suggested another contractor when I told them the cost was more than I was looking for.
Description of Work: Completely remodeling a relatively small main bathroom.

We prepared extensively for this project, researching for 6 months prior to the signing of contract. We interviewed a number of architecture groups, individual contractors etc and found Dan Tibma and his group to the best solution for us. He features full design services from simple brainstorming to getting all the engineer drawings done - The designer he partners with is great - her design for our space was incredible - she came up with a great floor plan and added gabled roof lines, corner fireplace, hall niche with marble top and overhead light. In about 625 sq feet, we have what feels like a new home. All day to day operations were signed over to his site manager - Joe R., who could not have done a better job - not just knowing his business but being polite, clean, efficient and an excellent subcontractor coordinator. He knows all the guys personally. This project was huge for us but TIBMA made it manageable and we have a stunning addition to show for it. Thanks!!
Description of Work: Full start to finish, 3.5 month project- from the creative design, to product selection, demolition of large attic space, followed by framing and full construction of new master bedroom / bath suite with laundry area, hall and niche. Featured hardwood floors, radiant heat to bathroom, custom shower enclosure - double vanity with marble- bead board- and 10' x 5' walk in closet. This project involved adding on an additional floor level to 1/2 of the house - the exterior was taken down to the sheathing, after addition was framed, entire area was resided, roofed, etc. Effort was combined with upgrading of our HVAC systems- we replaced a furnace with a high efficiency water boiler system, larger water heater and added central air to the house
