Did you know that it's unwise to spend too much but it's worse to spend too little? How do you choose the right contractor? First, they should listen to what you want to have done, then they should take a look at what needs to be done. Our certified expert will provide a full inspection of the problem areas. We will take digital photos of these areas, and provide a complete color coded plan so that you can see what we saw. IN EXCHANGE FOR OUR TIME AND EFFORTS, ALL THAT WE ASK IN RETURN IS THAT ANYONE WHO WOULD HAVE INPUT BE PRESENT TO DISCUSS YOUR OPTIONS. We believe that this approach provides everyone with the best way to make a good informed decision. If you agree, please call us now. You'll be glad you did! Since 1969, GF Sprague has worked with discerning homeowners who buy the right job at the right price.
Very impressed with Sprague, Mark was very knowledgeable and straightforward. Crew was first class closing roofing and Clean Up in four days and cold weather. Justin was terrific, personable and responsive, and was always on site or available. Crew and especially Foreman were excellent. I would recommend GF Sprague for a high quality Job, their technology and customer service.

GF Sprague is one of a few companies sent to me by angi matching algorithm. I did not choose them. Their price is a little high, but that is not the main reason. Most company send their proposals via emails and give their customers adequate time to study the proposal. GF Sprague estimator actually came back to meet us and went over their proposal which was nice. But he expected us to sign the contract right away on the spot. When we said we need time to think about it, he tried to push it, asking us what do we need to think about. When we said price is so high, he offered to lower the price a little if we sign the contract right away. I just don't like their high-pressure approach. We said we still need time to study the proposal and could not possibly sign the contract on the spot, but would give him a definite answer in a few days, he became visibly unhappy. In a few days, I texted him to say we would not go forward. However, they kept on calling us and telling us they've found some "cost-saving" areas, etc. I just do not think they are giving their customers an honest price. Be aware of their high-pressure approach and dishonest pricing scheme.

We have used GF Sprague for a couple of projects with varying results. The more recent was a new flat roof installation. They clearly did not pitch the roof correctly, the water pools and does not run off into the gutters they installed. At first they tried to say it's fine, then when I pushed, they said it's the build of my house and I should have asked for a pitched roof. Seriously, they expect the customer should tell the roofer how to do their job. This is just common sense and multiple other roofers have told me it was installed wrong! They will not admit it was done incorrectly because then they would have to pay to redo. While there is no water leaking right now, it's only a matter of time. Will never use again! I agree with the bullying and intimidation tactics they use, I regret using this company! Stay away if you know what it good for you!!
My family has hired G.F. Sprague and Company since the mid-aughts to repair and/or replace the gutters, downspouts, and slate roof on our 1880s-era home, and we have had nothing but good experiences with the company through the years. Most recently (this spring), we were fortunate to have Paul Elliott and his crew rebuild three porches on the house, and they did a fantastic job. Paul is not only a talented roofer and carpenter, but also a skilled communicator, delivering technical observations and recommendations in a way that was easy for us to understand, so if you’re lucky enough to have him assigned to your project, your building will, quite literally, be in good hands. In our experience, where major home repairs are concerned, it’s preferable to hire a company that has a corporate structure and hierarchy because it means everyone’s accountable and working together as a team. From the efficiency and ease of getting an initial estimate for our project with production manager Steve Herget, to communicating with Laura and Linda in the office office about bill paying and other administrative details, to Paul and his crew arriving each day when they said they would (and project manager Matt D’Agostino keeping us informed when they couldn’t—for instance, because of supply chain delays that disrupted the schedule and brought progress to a halt), to their meticulous workmanship, to their thorough cleanup at the conclusion of projects, G.F. Sprague & Co. has always been top-notch with us and I highly recommend them.

Not well. Took weeks for someone to come and look at the roof. They insisted on meeting in person to review the quote weeks later. I had to cancel the appointment as it landed in the week before Christmas and we were far too busy. After the holidays I rec eived repeated calls to set up an appointment. I finally had a minute to call back and tell them I didn't have time to meet in person and could we set up a call to discuss it on the phone. They refused saying it was against their policy. So in the middle of Pandemic round 2 they refuse to give me a quote unless they meet in person. Meanwhile the rest of the world is operating on remote Zoom calls?! The only reason I can imagine for insisting on meeting in person is to leverage a strong arm sales strategy to justify an unreasonable price. I refused to meet in person so I never got a quote. What a waste of time. Yelp reviews suggest that I am right in my evaluation. Stay away from this company

We're sorry to hear you had a negative experience working with our company. While we do ask that we meet with all homeowners to review the project rather than emailing a quote, this is a meeting we can do via Zoom is that is the homeowner's preference. We apologize if there was confusion around that, as we definitely want our customers to be comfortable meeting with us. We'd be more than happy to review your project with you over Zoom if you were still interested.

Overall, quite good. I'd rate the work and the primary workers (Konner and Nick) as excellent. Only time will tell regarding the results (deal with some tricky spots on the roof where ice damming was happening and water was coming in), but the process was excellent. Konner was in constant contact; I knew exactly where they were in the process and what the various decision points were. The only reason that I did not give a 5 is that I did not love the sales process. Their prices are relatively high (that's okay--I think they do good work, and I understand that materials are expensive at the moment), and I felt that we were being pressured to spend lots of money on big, expensive jobs--something we were not in a good position to do.

GF Sprague was one of the companies that reached out to me after I put in a request for a new roof via Angie's List. First, they told me that they wouldn't be able to even come by to look at the roof for two weeks. When I told them, "hey, you called me, and other companies were visiting me over the next week and I hoped to choose one before then," they then told me they could come by sooner, but it would cost me $99! That was a big red flag right there! I told them that was ridiculous, and the caller quickly backed down and somehow managed to find time for me (for free) early the following week. The company's rep showed up right on time (early, actually), confirmed my contact info, told me what he was going to do, and then said that after he was done, he'd want to talk to both me and my wife about next steps. Now, my wife is interested in many things about our home, but the roof is not one of them. Also, the house is in my name (I bought it before we met). I told him my wife was not going to be involved and he immediately shut down the conversation, telling me he'd need to walk away if she could not be present. I told him that was fine. The End. I am giving an F because there is no justifiable reason for a company in this day and age to insist that both husband and wife be present for a sales pitch. It's insulting and suspicious. No other roofing company I've spoken to for this project has even mentioned my spouse.

Bob was excellent. He arrived on time, he helped figure out some issues with clogged gutters and down pipes and with the previous work (a diverter was required on the back gutter). He was the first to acknowledge that the diverter should have been installed initially and he put in the order for it to get done at no additional cost which was fair and much appreciated. I was happy to meet him and appreciated his professionalism, expertise and kindness.

We desperately needed a new roof and GF Sprague was incredibly responsive and the price was great compared to what others had quoted! The quality was even better. The crew was always on time and extremely professional. I will be recommending them to everyone! Thank you!!
The crew was excellent. Great work ethic, great skill, prompt and hardworking. The job was done in a very professional manner that should last for some time., there were a few hiccups as to be expected in a large job that were handled. However, they have a lot of redundant processes that aren't effective including over-communicating. Also, they are among the highest cost installer in the market. Yet, I must add that I have received many compliments from neighbors and strangers about the quality of the final results. So, if you can afford them, use them..

Very professional and great service. They offer lifetime warranties in many instances, so they want to do the work right the first time, which I really appreciated.
The entire experience was great. The team is is very accessible, professional, and delivered on all promises. A few highlights: 1. You are assigned a project manager that you can call or text as needed and they are very responsive 2. The teams are courteous and professional 3. They take the time to explain options and no pressure on decisions 4. They cleaned up after every day 5. We live right on top of neighbors in Cambridge MA and they were great at working with them and managing their expectations too 6. The final inspection had 3 issues - they solved in 72 hours 7. After the project was done, they reconciled all the asks and bills and refunded me $1000 without me asking 8. We were using some lead materials and my neighbor was worried for contamination in their yard - so they swapped to another metal solving the issue I would use them anytime. They are not the least expensive, but value for dollar is worth it.

I had a small leak. Sprague quickly diagnosed the need for a very expensive roof repair. I also had a skylight that was dripping and decided to replace a group of four skylights. The work was spread out over a longer time than anticipated, which Sprague said was due to unusually wet weather. As far as I can tell as an amateur looking up at the roof from a distance, the quality is good but only some winters with no leaks will confirm that. They put some rather conspicuous shiny white concrete in one small part of a strip of gray concrete but said it would eventually weather to the same color. The substantial problem came over the skylights. My existing skylights came with retractable shades for those summer days when sun shining through the skylights could be blistering hot. During the initial conversations, we focused on whether we would be able to use the old shades or would have to replace them. When the job was done, there were no shades and they were emphatic that the shades were not included despite our detailed conversations about them. The wood just inside the skylights had been replaced and needed to be overlain with higher quality wood and painted. I had assumed, based on our conversation, particularly about the shades, that doing these things was part of the job. But I didn't explicitly write the shades into the contract. Regarding the wood, they pointed to a sentence deep within the many pages of the document that left me responsible for any inside work. I had seen that but never imagined that the wood they used would have to be covered up with higher quality wood before it could be painted. I was quite surprised, particularly when I found out that this residual work, requiring a carpenter, a painter and a shades specialist, would cost several thousand dollars. I felt stupid to have relied so heavily on the conversation and to have signed off on something that only a professional would understand. In the future I would recommend having a specialist lawyer review any contract. It would have been much more professional of them to clarify at the beginning how much would remain to be done after they finished what they understood to be the job. Finally, a small thing: They didn't clean up carefully. Left in the yard were things like a roll of what looked like insulation, thirteen pounds of copper nails (I weighed them), and other stuff. I didn't feel comfortable throwing all those copper nails in the trash, so they sit in my garage pending possible donation to some workman standing outside Home Depot on my next trip there. Because of a previous experience with Sprague, I made a point of asking them to be sure to take away the advertising signs they had placed in my yard; they promised they would, but they didn't.

I had a good experience with this company. I needed repair or replacement of some older wooden gutters to stop a persistent leak. Mark showed up as promised to evaluate and quote the needed work. Once the work started I was made aware of some additional challenges created by the roofer who previously worked on my home. All was explained and we agreed on installation of built in coated copper gutters that were formed to match the existing look of the home which was important to me. The work done by Jake, Conner and Tony Pedro was first rate. Communication was great as they worked around some challenges with the weather.

My experience from my first contact with GF Sprague was impressive. They sent Rich to inspect my leak problem. He was thorough, kind, and not intimidating - I was comfortable with him in my home. He returned to meet with my husband and me and gave us a report on what he believed to be our problem. Rich gave us his proposed repairs and despite the price being higher than another we had received, we decided to spend the extra money on the company we thought would be more trustworthy, use better quality materials and better craftsmanship - we did not want to skimp on our roof. A week later, which was a week ahead of schedule, Jake Pedro (a copper and slate mason) and Connor Pedro (Jake's apprentice) came to fix the leaking roof around our chimney. Jake was a great communicator - he called when he was en route to our house at 8am, discussed the job with me while being respectful of my dog and children and our crazy breakfast scene. Jake estimated a time to complete the job of 1-1.5 days and finished in a day, exceeding my expectations. Once he and Connor were finished, Jake explained what they found and the reasons he believed we had leaking. He showed me pictures of their work and described the repair job thoroughly. I am very happy with GF Sprague and will definitely use them in the future. I felt I was working with a "different sort of company" - one that values better quality materials and true craftsmanship.

Awful, They are terrible. DO NOT HIRE THEM. The first red flag was they showed up without a permit. I had emailed them 2 weeks prior to starting the job telling them to come with a permit. He showed up without the permit, I sent him away, the next day he showed up and lied, telling me his supervisor had it, but when I told him to have the supervisor text me a pic of the permit, he had to come back and say he didn't have it, so I asked him to leave again. The 3rd time he showed up with the permit, later on I pulled the application and realized he forged my signature. A very dishonest company! Those should have been a enough red flags for me to tell them to not come back, but I give people chances, well I never should have because the cheating and lying continued. GF Sprague in their contract will tell you they have certified craftsman, quality products and the job will be done right the first time, don't believe them! I could make this a very long review as there were and still are many issues, but the main one is that they put interior molding on the exterior of my property. Two different men representatives of the GF Sprague Co. (one an employee and one a subcontractor) both bought on their own interior molding for the exterior of my property. Does that sound like quality and certified craftsmen to you? Plus he repaired a slate valley with cracked, tarred slates and damaged my asphalt roof and applied bull nose red cement used for slate to try and repair and cover it up without telling me about the damage he did. Plus they damaged my gutters in 3 places when they put their ladders against them. Also, they left the roof exposed in 3 areas because they guy that was suppose to reinstall the slate was at a party that Saturday afternoon and GF Sprague didn't think it was important enough to have someone else on site. So, we had to install Grace Ice and Water shield. They are not reasonable either, the job by the roofers was incomplete and left without fully completing the rubber roof, left my cooper hip on the roof below and ripped my lower rubber roof when they were throwing /dragging the debris off the roof. Their prices are very high, and you wouldn't mind so much if you got real quality and craftsmanship but you do not. So over priced and over promised.
